Golconda fort located in Hyderabad, India was an important trade center for diamonds in the region. It was originally constructed in 1200 as a mud fort and was home to various rulers over time, notably the Qutubshahi Sultans from 1518 to 1687. The fort has thick defensive walls with 87 bastions and 9 large gates. It also contains gardens, factories, fields, and water storage systems. Golconda fort was very difficult to attack due to its strong security features like a deep ditch along the walls and soldiers stationed in lookout points.

3. Why Golconda is famous?
• Golconda was a trade centre of large diamonds called
Golconda diamonds.
• This region has produced some of the world's most famous
diamonds, including the colourless Koh-i-Noor

4. Who lived in Golconda fort?
• This fort was made out of mud in 1200 and different rulers
lived here.
• Qutubshahi Sultans ruled here one after another from 1518
– 1687.
• Also people like farmers and workers must also have been
living here.

• Bamni Darwaza
• Fateh Darwaza and so on
There are totally 9
Darwazas.

15. Hauz means water tank (Lake) and Baoli means
stepwells.
In Golconda fort there are 3 Hauz and 5 Baoli

on roof.
This fountains would have
run through the water
supplied by large tanks.

17. Water system
• To pull water out from the well,
farmers invented a mechanical
device called ‘Rahat’.
• In a ‘Rahat’, oxen (in some
areas a camel) dragged a long
wooden log, which rotated two
iron wheels.

• When the big iron wheel was rotated, one
end of the string carried empty buckets in
the well where they were filled with water
automatically.

19. Cannon means gun
• In Golconda fort there is a big
cannon used by Aurangzeb.
• Sultans were the ruler of the
Golconda fort. Aurangazeb came
to attack the fort.
• The cannon was used to attack the
Golconda fort.
• But they could not even enter the
fort.

20. Why these attacks?
• In those days, Emperors and kings tried
to make smaller kingdoms, a part of
their own kingdom
• This was done by friendship, flattery,
marriage between families or by attacks.

21. Golconda Fort’s security
• In Golconda fort there is a long deep
ditch along the wall.
• Also there are many soldiers in 87
Bastions.
• So it was very difficult for Aurangzeb’s
army to get into the fort.
• For 8 months they camped outside tge
fort.
