AJECTIVES- TÍNH TỪ- ĐỊNH NGHĨA VÀ CÁCH DÙNG
 Những từ dùng để bổ nghĩa cho danh từ hoặc đại từ.
 Chỉ có một dạng không biến đổi
 Dùng để miêu tả đặc điểm khách quan của sự vật hiện
tượng, ví dụ như tuổi tác, hình dáng, màu sắc…(age, size,
shape, color…).


TÍNH TỪ- ĐỊNH NGHĨA VÀ CÁCH DÙNG
Dùng để miêu tả ý kiến, đánh giá, nhận xét, bình luận
về một sự vật hiện tượng nào đó.
Ex: I have bought a blue hat. It is very beautiful
 Blue: đặc điểm khách quan của chiếc mũ là màu
xanh
Beautiful: nhận định của chủ ngữ (I) về chiếc mũ,
“tôi” cho rằng chiếc mũ đẹp


AJECTIVES- TÍNH TỪ-VỊ TRÍ
 Tính từ đứng trước danh từ
Ex: That expensive ring was sold to a rich man.
 Tính từ đứng sau động từ tobe, hoặc linking verbs (động
từ nối)
Ex: Your mother is so nice/ They are hardworking
 Linking verbs: look, sound, taste, smell, feel, seem, appear
(dường như), remain (duy trì, tồn tại), become, turn (trở
nên)…Những động từ này được theo sau bởi Tính từ.
Ex: She looks sad  Cô ấy trông thật buồn bã
This cake tastes good  Chiếc bánh này có vị ngon đấy
1. Her idea sounds very interesting.  Ý kiến của cô ấy nghe
có vẻ rất thú vị

AJECTIVES- THỨ TỰ SẮP XẾP TÍNH TỪ
 Khi dùng nhiều tính từ để bổ nghĩa cho danh từ, vậy những
tính từ đó sẽ được sắp xếp theo thứ tự đánh số từ 1 8 sau
đây:
1. Opinion: silly, beautiful, horrible, difficult…
2. Size : large, tiny, enormous, little…
3. Age: ancient, new, young, old …
4. Shape: square, round, flat, rectangular …
5. Colour : blue, pink, reddish, grey…
6. Origin : French, Chinese, American…
7. Material: wooden, metal, cotton, paper…
8. Purpose: These adjectives often end with "-ing". ("sleeping bag,
"roasting tin")…

ADVERBS- TRẠNG TỪ- ĐỊNH NGHĨA, CÁCH DÙNG

 Chú ý: Không nên dùng quá nhiều tính từ trước danh từ.
 Ex: It is a beautiful blue sailing boat/ That ugly small
old woman has a lot of money.
 Gồm những từ chỉ cách thức (slowly, quickly...), thời gian
(today, tonight…), nơi chốn (above, here…), tần suất
(always…), mức độ (very…)….


ADVERBS- TRẠNG TỪ- ĐỊNH NGHĨA,
CÁCH DÙNG
Trạng từ bổ nghĩa cho động từ
Ex: He drove fast and carelessly.
Trạng từ bỗ nghĩa cho tính từ
Ex: The redwood tree was impressively tall
Trạng từ bỗ nghĩa cho một trạng từ khác
Ex: She spoke extremely confidently
Trạng từ bỗ nghĩa cho cả câu
Ex: Luckily, she passed the exam


ADVERBS- TRẠNG TỪ- CÁCH THÀNH LẬP

Adv = adj + ly
Tính từ kết thúc bằng “y”, thay Happy  happily
“y” thanh “i” và thêm “ly” vào Angry  angrily
Tính từ kết thúc bằng đuôi Probable  probably
“able, ible, le” thì thay thế “e” Gentle  gently
bằng “ly”

Tính từ kết thúc bằng “ic” thì Basic  basically
thêm vào đuôi “ally” Economic  economically
Ngoại trừ: Public  publicly


ADVERBS- TRẠNG TỪ- CÁCH THÀNH LẬP

 Một số trạng từ sẽ có cùng dạng với tính từ, vì vậy cần
chú ý để tránh nhầm lẫn:
early, late, near, straight, wrong, fast, hard, high
- He is very fast >< He speaks very fast
- There are many high buildings in this city >< The bird
flew high in the sky
 Trường hợp đặc biệt: adj: good  adv: well
- He is a good student >< He studies well


CÁC LỖI THƯỜNG GẶP VÀ CẦN TRÁNH
 Dùng sai vị trí của tính từ khi kết hợp với danh từ
- Wrong: the car beautiful X  Correct: The beautiful car
 Dùng nhầm trạng từ với những động từ liên kết (động từ
nói)
- Wrong: She seems very happily X Correct: She seems
very happy


CÁC LỖI THƯỜNG GẶP VÀ CẦN TRÁNH

 Nhầm lẫn giữa Hard và Hardly:
 Hard - vừa là tính từ vừa là trạng từ với nghĩa “chăm chỉ”
hoặc “khó khăn, khắc nghiệt” >< Hardly- là trạng từ với
nghĩa phủ định: gần như không
- She works very hard >< She hardly understood what
they said
(Cô ấy làm việc rất chăm chỉ .>< Cô ấy gần như không hiếu
những gì họ nói)

V. Underline all the adjectives in this description of a hotel
 This comfortable hotel with its pleasant gardens is ideal for
people who want a quiet holiday, yet it is only a short
distance from the highly popular attractions of the area.
There are lovely views from every room. The atmosphere is
very friendly. And the staffs are always helpful. A holiday
here is very good value for money. You can eat your meals
at the hotel, where the food tastes marvelous. Or you can of
course try some of the excellent local restaurants.



VI. Complete the conversation. Decide if you need –ly
with the words in brackets
 Mark: How did you get on with Henry today?
 Sarah: Oh, we had a nice lunch and some (live)
conversation. Henry was charming, as usual. He gave me
lift back to the office, but it was (hard) worth risking our

 Mark: What do you mean?
