Hannah was barren, her husband's second wife berated her horribly, but she prayed and believed God for a son. This is a message of faith and hope for the future.
Ecclesiastes 9:13-15 God remembered: Noah, Abraham, His promise, His mercy, His covenant, Hannah, Rachel, that we are but dust, our alms, our iniquity, but He does not remember the sins of the righteous. What will God remember about you?

We see the power of grace most acutely in the transformation of our human nature. Only grace can change who we really are. This week we'll look at the transformation of the man named Saul of Tarsus. He would become known as the apostle Paul. How did Saul initially experience God's grace? How was it seen in a Christian "nobody" named Ananias?
An Unlikely Duet: Isaiah and Bob DylanRoss Reddick
This is a presentation I put together for a chapel service at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. That week we were exploring Christian peace. On the last day, this presentation was where the sermon would normally go. It was a way to explore peace negatively. What does the *absence* of peace look like--well, sound like--in this case.
I paired selections of the Prophet Isaiah with the lyrics from Bob Dylan's famous song, "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall." Isaiah and Bob could say it much better than I ever could. I let them speak.
The last slide was generated by tagxedo.com. The text used to generate the tag cloud came from senior answers to an ordination exam question (Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.) that dealt with Christian peace.
Hannah’s Road to Rejoicing
I. Perceived Problems.
A. 2 Wives.
B. Yearly Worship.
C. Eli Sat.
D. …but Hannah had no children (v 2)
1) She had a legitimate grievance with Elkanah.
2) She had a legitimate grievance with Peninnah.
3) She had a legitimate grievance with God.
II. Posterity Not Prosperity.
III. Petition not Pretense.
Conclusion:
We're not good when the "unexpected" comes crashing into our lives. We're REALLY not good when TWO big unexpected boulders crash into our lives. God re-routes Hannah to the back roads of the Unexpected, circumstances you never imagined YOU'd ever have to go through. Along the way, Hannah found JOY she never expected to find, and so can we!

The Gospel of James or The Protevangelion is a second-century infancy gospel telling of the miraculous conception of the Virgin Mary, her upbringing and marriage to Joseph, the journey of the couple to Bethlehem, the birth of Jesus, and events immediately following.
Has I began to read this study , my heart leapt for joy, what greatness is our abba father, for those seasoned in his word, these words will open an astounding truth, and by connection the dots we see the blessing of being Y’shra’uwlites in a modern world

How to deal with complaints in your heart Is it okay to complain to someone?...franktsao4
Today's society is a society that advocates money and status. They often compare themselves with each other, comparing houses, cars, and status. The result is a series of complaints. And the more you complain, the more sorrow you feel in your heart. Even, a lot of psychology says that as long as you speak out, the complaints in your heart will be calmed down, but is this really the case? Now we are going to talk about the topic of complaining, how can we stop complaining, whether we can complain to people, and how to complain to God, because this world is actually in the hands of God, and only by pouring out our hearts to Him can we calm down our hearts 's complaint.

How can we pray in faith (Mark 11:22-24) when we don’t know God’s sovereign will in advance? How long should we continue praying if God doesn’t seem to be answering? Is there a point at which we should give up? Where is the proper balance between prayer and proper methods? Does dependence on God in prayer mean that we should neglect effective methods?
After David had Uriah killed, his heart turned to God. Psalm 51 records a prayer of David asking God to cleanse his heart. How did he recover from such a great sin and restore his relationship with God?
40 Days and 40 Nights_Jesus our ComforterStephen Palm
Another name for Mt. Sinai is Mt. Horeb. Several weeks ago, we saw in Exodus 24 that Moses fasted and waited atop Mt. Sinai for 40 days and 40 nights, waiting for God to deliver His Law to His people. And then, we saw in Deuteronomy 9 that after Aaron made the golden calf idol and the nation worshipped this Egyptian god, the God of Israel threatened to destroy the nation of Israel and make a new nation descended from Moses. But instead of allowing himself to become the new focal point of biblical history, Moses interceded in prayer for 40 days and 40 nights atop Sinai and begged God to relent. And now, we find ourselves nearly 500 years later. After defeating the prophets of the pagan god Baal on Mt. Carmel, Elijah the prophet has learned that evil Queen Jezebel is seeking revenge. He flees for 40 days and 40 nights and in great fear he sits atop Mt. Horeb, the same mountain that Moses spent two such 40-day jaunts. Elijah wishes he was never born, but God ministers to him and comforts him. And in this we see a picture of Jesus, who gently nurtures His people and ultimately promises the Holy Spirit as the greatest comforter of all time.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
2. 1 Samuel 1 1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah , the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:
3. Elkanah was a Levite, and could have been a priest. The Levites had no tribal land ; they were scattered among the other tribes to serve as priests . Elkanah lived in the hill country of Ephraim -- Ramah, but he was still a Levite .
4. 2 And he had two wives ; the name of the one was Hannah , and the name of the other Peninnah : and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. God never sanctioned the practice of multiple wives , but men took them anyway. Very often when a first wife could not have children a man would take a second wife to bear him sons.
5. 3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh . And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there. Joshua 18 1 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh , and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them. There was no temple at Jerusalem yet.
6. 4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: 5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the Lord had shut up her womb. Pininnah was just a means to have sons. He loved Hannah. Result?
7. 6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret , because the Lord had shut up her womb. 7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat. Trouble in his home brought on by his sin .
8. 8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons? Elkanah didn't understand . Maybe he didn't know what Pininnah was doing. Hannah didn't know that God had a plan .
9. The time of this story is right at the end of the era of the Judges , a vile time in Israel's history. God had raised up many leaders (judges) during this time who brought the people back to God , Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah, Gideon, Samson The birth of Samuel marks a change in that pattern . But their repentance never lasted past the life of that leader.
10. 9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh , and after they had drunk. (remember, she didn't eat or drink) Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the Lord. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.
11. 11 And she vowed a vow , and said, O Lord of hosts, if Thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of Thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget Thine handmaid, but wilt give unto Thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. This was the vow of a Nazarite, separating a person totally unto God.
12. 12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli marked her mouth. 13 Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken. 14 And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
13. 15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. 16 Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
14. 17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him. 18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad. She still didn't have a son. She wasn't even pregnant. Her appetite returned, and she was no longer sad .
15. Hebrews 11 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. When we have faith in God for something that we want, we are certain that we have it. We no longer hope for it; in our mind and heart we have it !
16. Acts 27 21 But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
17. 22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship. 23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, Whose I am, and Whom I serve, 24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. 25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me. Faith will speak what God has said. No fear can exist in the presence of faith.
18. Faith will produce the good works of obedience. James 2 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
