Sir Isaac Newton discovered three laws of motion in the late 1600s that describe how objects move. The first law states that objects at rest stay at rest and objects in motion stay in motion with the same speed and direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. The second law defines force as the product of an object's mass and acceleration. The third law explains that for every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force. These laws describe the motion of all objects in everyday life.
