2. From looking into a range of BMX films and
documentaries throughout my research I
discovered that the typical codes and
convention were always the same. Through the
Film Poster
use of quick paced editing, a range of shots and
music to fit the genre the film could tie
together.
When discussing with my focus group and
within my self evaluation I came to the
conclusion that I followed the majority of codes
and conventions for my film making task.
Magazine Front
Cover
Following the main task at hand my ancillary
tasks also had specific codes and conventions. I
looked into a BMX magazine known as “Ride
UK” to help with my magazine construction and
researched into recent film posters for the film
poster task.
3. The Trailer – “I have a dream”
Camera Angles and
Firstly I matched the codes and Shots
conventions of a typical BMX
film through the wide use of
shots and angles. I made sure to
widen the variety of shots by
mostly hand holding the
camera. However I did also
experiment with a GoPro
camera.
From experimenting at different
locations in different weather
conditions I could really capture
the variety of shots I needed.
4. The Trailer– “I have a dream”
I also made sure that within the film I could
match the codes and conventions by Audio
picking the correct audio to fit the pace and
theme of the film. Also meeting the
demands of the target demographic.
I used a program called “wave pad” for my
audio editing process, this allowed me to
cut and trim music down the correct
timings and also to fuse tracks together so I
could easily fit my film to the music.
I experimented with sound effects such as
the heartbeat at the beginning and end of
my trailer.
I found the codes and conventions of
typical BMX music to be ranging from rap to
hip hop and made sure to experiment with
different music until deciding on the final
one.
5. The Trailer – “I have a dream”
Social media is a well known media
technique, due to new media convergence
has allowed
Internet access throughout the world,
whenever and wherever you need. Twitter
and Facebook
are brilliant for expanding and showing new
promotional advertisements.
Most films use social media as a network to
show promotion for a new film, this would be
typical
For a film with a low budget such as a BMX
film.
6. The Poster
I made sure to spend a long time
perfecting the typography. This is due
to the typical codes and conventions
from previous film posters relating to
the subject of the film. From looking
into previous posters I could establish
that the font was possibly the most
important thing. In fusion with the
image, the image must not reveal too
much of the film or in this case ‘the
trick’. I followed the route of not
revealing too much about the
character and did this through his
body position. By having his back
towards the camera a sense of
mystery is created and should raise
the interest of the demographic to
want to see the film.
7. The Poster
Other than just the font and
the image the general layout
was important, I chose to stick
to a simple portrait landscape,
but decided to work more
central to the image, this
allowed more information to
be consumed at one time and
draws together a better
formation to the piece.
8. The Magazine
From looking into the codes and
conventions of a typical film magazine
I realized from my research that the
magazine must involve a large amount
of detail on the front cover to
persuade the audience to buy it,
therefore I made sure to generate
enough promotion onto the cover.
Also I discovered that having a
constant theme was relevant.
Therefore I chose another font and
stuck with the typography, also I
made sure to use the same color
scheme for consistency.
