2. "STOPPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING" BY ROBERT FROST - 1922
Stopping by Woods on a
Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think
I know.
His house is in the village
though;
He will not see me stopping
here
To watch his woods fill up with
snow.
My little horse must think it
queer
To stop without a farmhouse
near
Between the woods and
frozen lake
The darkest evening of the
year.
He gives his harness bells a
shake
To ask if there is some
mistake.
The only other sound's the
sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark,

In the poem, “Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost, Frost describes the
pure beauty of nature. The woods are silently coated in fresh snow. His horse only knows that this is not
their final destination. The Knickerbocker Storm of 1922 was the largest storm ever recorded at the
time. Although snow sometimes represents purity or purification, this storm was severely damaging. I
think that Robert Frost was trying to speak about the purity and serenity that nature offers versus the
unpleasant clamor of the village.

3. "FOG" BY CARL SANDBURG 1916
The fog comes on little cat feet. Carl Sandburg used fog to represent industrial pollution from the
factories which were appearing all over the pristine countryside. Industry grew swiftly and expanded
stealthily like a cat after prey. The pollution was ever present in port harbors and cities. With a change in
weather, a swift moving wind moves the fog on word.
The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
