Robert Lee Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in
San Francisco, California. He was a noted and
critically respected American Poet of 20th Century.
He is highly regarded for his realistic
depictions of rural life.
On 29th January, 1963, he died in Boston,
of complications from prostate surgery.
Stopping by the woods on a snowy
evening is a inspiring poem by Robert
Lee frost.
The poem "Stopping By Woods on a
Snowy Evening" is a meaningful poem. It
conveys an important idea of keeping up
one's duties and responsibilities when
alive.
4. SUMMARY
In this poem, the poet said that he was passing through woods which were lovely, dark and
deep. The natural beauty compels him to stop there and watch the great scene of nature. At first
he wondered whose woods are these. But then he suddenly realizes that the owner of these
woods lives in a town of a nearby village.
The little horse thinks it strange to stop in the middle of the forest. The horse shakes his harness
bell pretending to be impatience. The horse probably protesting that there might be some
mistake in stopping there. The whole atmosphere was dark and gloomy with snow laden trees.
There was no sound except the echo of the hamess bell.
On this point, feelings and emotions are so high that poet was unable to move forward. The
horse shakes his harness bell and realized him that he has some duties of practical life. So he
suddenly realized that he has some promises to fulfill. Though the poet wants to stay there but
his responsibilities recall him. In the end the poet presented a fine philosophy of life which
proves that this poem is a symbolic masterpiece.

woods. Frost wrote the poem in the village of Franconia.
SETTING
The time of the poem is "the darkest night of the year." It is also believed that
this refers to the winter solstice, or the longest night of the year, which is
December 21st or 22nd.
