ecently, in
the national
convention
of BJP held
in New Del-
hi, there was a discussion
on forming the Modi gov-
ernment for the third time
in the country as well as
realizing the dream of a
developed India. Whatever
Modi said on this occasion
is worth considering. Modi
said that we have come out
not for politics but for na-
tional policy. The heights
that India has achieved in
every field today have
united every indian with a
great resolve. This resolu-
tion is of developed India.
Modi has been talking
about developed India for
a long time. He has set a
target of making the coun-
try developed by 2047. He
often says that now the
country can neither see
small dreams nor take
small resolutions. Now
dreams will also be huge
and resolutions will also be
huge. It is our dream and
resolution that we have to
make India developed. It is
true that Modi never
showed small dreams to
the public. He has always
been talking about a strong,
capable and developed In-
dia and his government has
been working continuous-
ly in that direction since
2014. In 2014, more than
17 crore people voted for
BJP and formed the Modi
government with a major-
ity of 282 seats because
they had an expectation
from Modi. After five
years, in the 2019 Lok
Sabha elections, more than
23 crore voters voted and
gave 303 seats to BJP only
because Modi lived up to
their expectations.
Lok Sabha elections are
being held this year. With
the achievements of Modi
government, BJP has en-
tered the election field un-
der the leadership of Modi.
This time the target is to
cross 400 but the big ques-
tion is how will BJP be
able to achieve such a huge
target? Political analysts
are answering this as a
guarantee from Modi. It is
believed that on the basis
of Modi’s guarantee, BJP
will form the government
at the Center for the third
time. BJP will contest the
elections on the basis of its
achievements and its poli-
cies and programs in the
last ten years. This election
will be fought by BJP on
the basis of the work that
Modi has been doing for
the last ten years for the
revival of cultural India.
Modi himself has an-
nounced guarantee of 370
seats for BJPand 400 seats
for NDA and votes of 66
crore voters in 2024.
Modi has done so much
for cultural development
in the country, which is dif-
ficult to describe in words.
Extensive work has been
done for every section in-
cluding energy, foreign
policy, security, medicine,
education, development of
cultural tourism, economic
progress, poor welfare,
women upliftment. This
represents taking difficult
decisions for the nation.
The world worships power
and Modi has cherished
the dream of making
Mother India powerful
since childhood. The abo-
lition of Article 370 from
Kashmir has been a his-
toric step. It is an honor to
become Central Vista in
Delhi. Modi is worrying
about every class. He is
working like an ascetic. He
considers 140 crore people
of the country as his idol.
The resolutions of Satvik
ascetic people are always
fulfilled because the reso-
lutions of crores of people
also join with them. The
country is moving forward
in this spirit.
Even when Modi was
the Chief Minister of Gu-
jarat for 15 years, he gave
the ‘Gujarat Development
Model’ to the country and
established Gujarat as Vi-
brant Gujarat in the whole
world.After he became the
Prime Minister, the entire
country is moving on the
path of progress.
Whatever the Modi gov-
ernment has done in the
last ten years, the condition
of the common people has
improved. Per capita in-
come has increased but the
target is still far but not
impenetrable. Modi is con-
tinuously working in this
direction. Modi had
launched the Make in India
program in 2014. This is a
kind of indigenous pro-
gram started with the aim
of creating employment
opportunities and promot-
ing the manufacturing sec-
tor in the country. Make in
India covers all sectors of
the economy and its prom-
ising results are continu-
ously emerging. Modi has
done a lot for the uplift-
ment of farmers and agri-
culture in the country. Un-
der PM Kisan Samman
Nidhi Yojana, the Central
Government is providing
assistance of Rs 6,000 to
small farmers of the coun-
try. The use of drones is
being promoted in agricul-
ture. There is maximum
emphasis on improved
farming. It is not hidden
from anyone how much
the Pradhan Mantri Garib
Kalyan Anna Yojana has
benefited the needy sec-
tions of the country. We are
already seeing how Ujjwa-
la Yojana has changed the
lives of women.
Earlier, house of a poor
person used to be sold for
the treatment of disease,
but the facility of free
treatment up to Rs 5 lakh
under the Ayushman
Bharat scheme of Modi
government has changed
the situation. There are
many schemes like Prad-
han Mantri Jeevan Jyoti
BimaYojana,Atal Pension
Yojana and Pradhan Man-
tri Suraksha Bima Yojana,
which were run with the
aim of protecting the large
population of the country,
which have provided sup-
port to the common peo-
ple. Under the Pradhan
Mantri Awas Yojana, the
dream of crores of people
of owning a house has
come true. The country’s
economy is strengthening
rapidly. There was a time
when the country’s gold
had to be mortgaged, but in
the last ten years, India’s
foreign exchange reserves
have doubled to reach
$616.7 billion. This data
released by RBI is till Jan-
uary 26, 2024. Economic
experts believe that this
has increased our liquidity
in terms of foreign ex-
change and the country is
fully capable of dealing
with any external econom-
ic crisis or risk. The credit
for this goes to many major
reforms in the policies of
Modi government, trade
balance, controlled infla-
tion, stable stock market
and attraction of foreign
investors.
While the impeccable
tenure of 10 years of Modi
government is commend-
able, taking 25 crore peo-
ple out of poverty is com-
mendable. The way Modi
government has freed the
country from mega-scams
and terror and has tried to
improve the lives of the
poor, it is a big achieve-
ment. The way Modi ig-
nited the spark of change
in the governance system
under ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka
Vishwas, Sabka Vikas’, it
has become possible to
move towards inclusive,
development-oriented and
corruption-free govern-
ance. Due to the foresight
of Modi, there has been
success in realizing the ob-
jective of Antyodaya and
making the people sitting
at the last corner of the so-
ciety benefit from the gov-
ernment schemes. Various
international agencies
have confirmed that under
the leadership of PM Modi,
India is eliminating pov-
erty at a record pace.Agen-
cies have credit this to
various decisions taken by
the Modi government
keeping in mind the inter-
ests of the poor. Under the
Suryodaya Yojana, the
pledge to install solar pan-
els on one crore houses of
poor and middle class fam-
ilies and the use of solar
energy, wind energy and
renewable and green en-
ergy will not only solve the
energy crisis but will also
help in removing carbon
pollution from the world.
The construction of Shri
Ram Temple has filled the
country with a new energy.

FUTURE
Modi has said that he is
asking for a third term not
for the sake of enjoying
power, but for the sake
of a developed India. He
wants to work completely
on the model of developed
India in the third term
of the government
and this model is not
of western imitation.
Modi’s model of developed
India includes upliftment
of farmers and agriculture,
control on consumerist
expenditure, good educa-
tion, better medical care,
economic self-reliance,
promotion of cultural val-
ues, work for every hand.
He wants to awaken the
consciousness of nation.
India is emerging rapidly
on the world economic
scene. The ministry’s
January 2024 economic
review said India will
become the world’s third-
largest economy with a
GDP of $5 trillion in the
next three years. And
with continued reforms
it is expected to reach
$7 trillion by 2030.
Modi has already made its
roadmap. In the next five
years, there is a possibility
that the work stalled for the
last 70 years will not only
be completed but all the cit-
izens will also be motivated
to fulfill their duties towards
the developed nation.

all it Sharad Pawar’s gambit which has left

about his next move. The wily Maharashtra
strongman invited Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and
his two deputies---Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar
(whobroketheNationalistCongressParty)---forlunch
in his constituency Baramati. Unless they are privy to
Sharad Pawar’s next move, even the above three lead-
ers would be wondering why the NCPchief was being
so gracious. They have so far kept mum.
The personal invites to his rivals was even more
surprising as Sharad Pawar himself has not been in-
vited for an event where all three leaders will be pre-
sent. The ruling combine’s intent is obvious: weaken
Sharad Pawar’s hold on Baramati in the Lok Sabha
elections. His daughter Supriya Sule is a Lok Sabha
MP from Baramati. She may have to face Ajit Pa-
war’s wife Sunetra Pawar in the forthcoming elec-
tions. Will Sharad Pawar join the queue that goes to

C
eepfakes fuel misinformation, posing a threat
to India’s upcoming elections. IT Minister
Rajeev Chandrasekhar labelled it a “very
problematic issue,” hinting at stricter laws for social
media companies failing to regulate content. Preced-
ing his warning, the government advised these firms
to comply with Information Technology Rules. With
Lok Sabha elections looming, concerns mount over
AI-driven misinformation and deepfakes. Chan-
drasekhar emphasized that deepfakes, bolstered byAI,
escalate risks to the safety and trust of digital citizens.
As the nation braces for polls, and the fear of ma-
nipulated content looms large, Google seems to have
taken a step in the right direction by tying up with
fact-checkers for ear-
ly detection of online
misinformation, in-
cluding deepfakes
and “to create a com-
mon repository” for
the use of media
houses. To fight the
menace of misinfor-
mation, Google said
in a blog post, it will
support “Shakti, In-
dia Election Fact-
Checking Collective,
a consortium of fact-
checkers working
together to aid the
early detection of on-
line misinformation,
including deepfakes”
to help people better evaluate online information”.
The best example of how misinformation can
erode people’s trust in democracy was seen during
the 2020 US presidential election when a false meta-
narrative about voter fraud began to be spread. A
study by Stanford University, however, found that
compared to the 2016 elections fewerAmericans vis-
ited unreliable websites. The study concluded that
“mitigation and education efforts to identify misin-
formation are working”.
With Google putting in place a robust system to
combat misinformation, it now up to the people to
sift fact from mischievous fiction that will begin to
be circulated by unscrupulous elements.

The report, authored

that this has been a re-

has led to strong inclu-

The report said high

The Headcount Pov-

The report further states that elimination of extreme poverty

the population is one step

he smell of rebellion is still prev-
alent in the valleys of Himachal
Pradesh and no one knows
exactly how long this ceasefire will last.
But sources close to the Congress top
leadership are saying with confidence that
‘whether there is a Congress government
in Himachal after the Lok Sabha election
or not, at least Sukhu will not be the CM
of Himachal post elections.’ If sources are
to be believed, the former Chief Minister
of the Congress, who is now drenched
in saffron i.e. Captain Amarinder Singh
had an important role in the cultivation
of Rani Pratibha Singh and her son
Vikramaditya Singh. Amarinder Singh is
related to Pratibha Singh’s late husband
Virbhadra Singh, hence both the families
are very close to each other. Anyway, all
the half-dozen MLAs who switched sides
in this Rajya Sabha election and were
disqualified by the Congress are said
to be from Pratibha Singh’s camp. Out
of these MLAs, Himachal Congress in-
charge Rajiv Shukla wanted to make two
MLAs ministers in the Sukhu government.
So this time the blame is falling on Shukla
ji also. Congress supporters are taking
him to task on social media and even
calling him an ‘agent’ of BJP. When DK
Shivakumar was sent to Shimla consider-
ing the seriousness of the matter, the first
thing he said to Pratibha Singh was that
‘she will be made the CM of Himachal
after the Lok Sabha elections’. It is said
that only after this her son Vikramaditya
Singh agreed to withdraw his resigna-
tion. It is said that DK has also assured
Pratibha that these six MLAs will return
home and has also said that ‘the party
high command will not take any action
against them.’
T
he Left parties,
which were
following the
steps of Congress and
INDI Alliance, have also
changed their mind about
Congress. Recently, the
Marxist Communist Party
i.e. CPM in its mouthpiece
‘People’s Democracy’ has
cursed the Congress lead-
ership. Pointing towards
the Himachal episode, the
party has accused the Con-
gress of doing politics and
wanted to know that ‘when
so much was going on in
the inner room of Himachal
for so many days, then was
the Congress leadership
was sleeping?’ Regarding
Kamal Nath, CPM took a
jibe at the Congress and
said ‘Kamal Nath went to
court of Dhirendra Shastri
but Congress leadership
did not take any notice.’ It
has been said in mouth-
piece that ‘Congress will
have to connect with the
land, its roots and make
its ideology stronger, it
will have to understand
with whom it is competing.
The real strength of BJP
is Sangh but why does
Congress not understand
it.’ CPM has also directly
challenged Rahul and
told him that ‘contesting
elections here in Wayanad
will not work, because
BJP is not in competition
here.’ Party’s Politburo also
believes that ‘if Rahul really
wants to stand as a leader,
then he will have to go and
fight battle there where
he has a direct fight with
BJP. That is, the Left wants
Rahul Gandhi to at least go
to Amethi and contest the
elections.
T
n employment fair was organised in the
Vidya Pratisthan College campus of
Baramati on Saturday, March 2 and this
fair was named ‘Namo Maha Rozgar Melawa’. This
fair was scheduled to be inaugurated by Maharash-
tra CM Eknath Shinde and along with him, his two
deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar had
also visited Baramati. When senior Maratha leader
Sharad Pawar came to know about the programme
of these three leaders to come to Baramati, he hur-
riedly invited Shinde, Fadnavis and Ajit to his house
for dinner. Citing their respective arrangements,
both Shinde and Fadnavis rejected Sharad Pawar’s
dinner invitation. Actu-
ally, Sharad Pawar’s
daughter Supriya Sule
is the MP from Baramati
and BJP is under pres-
sure from Ajit Pawar to
field his wife Sunetra Pawar against Supriya, so that
the fight becomes high profile.
He wants to field his son Parth Pawar in place of
his wife. But Sunetra comes from a political family
and is also known for social work in the area and
she has also been active in Baramati for a long
time. Supriya has been representing Baramati for
3 times, while Ajit Pawar had also won the parlia-
mentary elections from Baramati in 1991. He is also
a 7-time MLA from this area, hence this time the
parliamentary elections of Baramati have become
very interesting.
A

here is ongoing turmoil in both the major
alliances of Bihar as MLAs are also moving
here and there. Recently, 7 MLAs of RJD
and Congress have defected to BJP and apart from
this, 4 MLAs of Jitan Ram Manjhi and independent
Sumit Kumar Singh are also with BJP. 11 Congress
MLAs are still in the throes of ‘Operation Lotus’. That
is, the BJP which had only 74 MLAs in the last as-
sembly elections, is today the largest political party
in the state. Even JDU is not safe from the heat of
Operation Lotus and that is why JDU chief Nitish
Kumar is still talking about this and insisting that
‘Bihar assembly elections should also be held along
with this Lok Sabha elections’. But BJP has changed
its tactics and made a new move that ‘Now the CM
should be of BJP.’ So if Nitish is not successful in
holding both the elections together, then he may
be out of office in May-June. Anyway, Deputy Chief
Minister of the state Samrat Chaudhary from BJP
quota has not yet removed his turban.

n my small vil-
lage in India,
farmers often
faced annual crop
failures due to erratic rain-
fall. We experimented with
what is called Natural Cli-
mate Solutions (NCS). This
included such restoring
nearby forests, creating
rainwater harvesting struc-
tures, and incorporating
farmyard manure along with
green manuring into their
agricultural practices. We
witnessed a remarkable
transformation. These ef-
forts brought improved wa-
ter availability in our dried
wells. We could afford en-
hanced irrigation during ter-
minal drought spells. We
could enrich soil carbon in
our farms. Ultimately, all
this led to better farm yields
and improved livelihoods.
This story exemplifies just
one of the many ways NCS
can positively impact eco-
systems, economies, and
communities.
Let us see another exam-
ple. In the heart of India,
where the Ganges flows
with the stories of civiliza-
tions past and the Himalayas
stand as sentinels of time, a
revolution is quietly unfold-
ing. It's not one marked by
the clamour of industry or
the whirlwind of technology,
but by the gentle rustle of
leaves, the whisper of grass-
lands, and the silent vigil of
wetlands.
This is the story of Natu-
ral Climate Solutions (NCS)
- an ancient wisdom being
rediscovered and embraced
in modern India's fight
against climate change.And,
I am happy to be part of this
journey.
NCS refers to sustainable
management and restoration
of natural ecosystems such
as forests, grasslands, and
wetlands, to capture carbon
dioxide from the atmos-
phere. It also encompasses
adaptation to climate
change. At its core, NCS is
about working with nature,
rather than against it, to ad-
dress the climate crisis. But
why do these solutions mat-
ter to all
of us The answer lies not
just in their ability to miti-
gate climate change but also
in their profound impact on
biodiversity, water security,
and livelihoods. Indeed,
NCSs are the answer to more
than 30 % problem of car-
bon emissions.
India, with its diverse eco-
systems, ranging from the
snow-capped peaks of the
Himalayas to the lush West-
ern Ghats and the vast Thar
Desert, presents a unique as-
semblage of landscapes for
implementing NCS. The
country is home to over
3708 tree species of trees,
each playing a role in the
carbon cycle.Yet, the poten-
tial of these natural allies has
been underutilized until re-
cently. The situation is
changing though.
Consider the Sundarbans,
the largest mangrove forest
in the world, straddling In-
dia and Bangladesh. Man-
groves are among the most
effective carbon sinks on the
planet. A study published in
the journal Nature Climate
Change highlighted that
mangroves could sequester
four times more carbon per
unit area than tropical rain-
forests. The Sundarbans and
similar other mangroves in
India could be a key player
in India's climate strategy,
safeguarding millions of
people from the devastations
of cyclones while sequester-
ing vast amounts of carbon.
We must, however, under-
stand that natural climate
solutions are not merely
about the big projects or
players. Indeed, every action
matters. Throughout the
country, small-scale projects
are demonstrating the power
of local action. In the arid
landscapes of Rajasthan,
learning from the ancient
practice of growing trees on
farms, community-led ef-
forts have transformed de-
graded farms into thriving
agroforestry systems. These
initiatives not only sequester
carbon but also enhance
food security and provide
sustainable livelihoods to
rural communities.
The economic argument
for NCS is compelling. Ac-
cording to a report by the
World Resources Institute,
every dollar invested in res-
toration and sustainable for-
est management can yield up
to $30 in economic benefits.
These benefits come in the
form of improved water fil-
tration, flood protection, en-
hanced soil fertility, and the
global value of carbon se-
questration. We must, how-
ever, be clear that the success
of NCS hinges on the par-
ticipation and support of lo-
cal communities, for they are
on the frontlines of bearing
the brunt of climate change.
Consequently, recognizing
their role and ensuring that
NCS pathways are equitable
and inclusive is crucial.
As India strides towards
its ambitious goal of seques-
tering 2.5 to 3 billion tons of
CO2 equivalent by 2030, the
role of NCS cannot be over-
stated. The government's
commitment, reflected in
policies such as the National
Agroforestry Policy and the
CompensatoryAfforestation
FundAct is a step in the right
direction. However, realiz-
ing the full potential
of NCS requires scaling
up these efforts, fostering in-
novation, and building part-
nerships across sectors. The
NCS are an authentication of
the power of nature to re-
grow and sustain beyond
shocks and ravages, if we
intervene at the right time
and right manner. NCS in-
terventions draw on scien-
tific, experiential and tradi-
tional knowledge for a
greener and climate-resilient
future. As we stand at the
crossroads of crisis related
to climate change, conserva-
tion and livelihoods, let the
initial success of NCS inter-
ventions remind us that in
nature, we find our most po-
tent solutions. Together, em-
bracing the principles of
NCS, we can create a path to
a sustainable world, for our-
selves, and for the genera-
tions to come.
It is interesting to recall
the innovative initiatives
that are unfolding after our
State Roundtable on NCS.
We recently had a knowl-
edge and training roundtable
in Gujarat. We discussed the
multifaceted benefits of
NCS—not just for carbon
sequestration but also for
enhancing biodiversity, wa-
ter security, mangrove resto-
ration, rewilding empty for-
ests, and
community livelihoods.
The realization that this
work could directly contrib-
ute to India's climate goals
while also addressing local
environmental and social is-
sues was profoundly impact-
ful. Gujarat has recently en-
tered into an MoU with an
international organization to
bring US$266 million for
mangrove restoration.
Another example comes
from Haryana. Following
the lead from the discussions
on the State Roundtable on
NCS, Haryana has enacted
an ambitious programme of
tree planting on non-forest
lands with the participation
of citizens. It is called the
Van Mitra Scheme and
provides assured incen-
tives tied to the survival and
growth of the planted sap-
lings. As we move ahead to
address climate change, con-
servation, and livelihoods,
the early successes of NCS
interventions serve as a
powerful reminder of na-
ture's solutions. By imple-
menting NCS principles,
pathways and practice, India
is not just addressing its cli-
mate commitments but also
sowing the seeds for a green-
er, more resilient future for
generations to come. This
journey, enriched with
knowledge, collaboration,
and respect for nature's ca-
pabilities, illuminates the
path to sustainability—a
path where every step, every
initiative, every action, and
every tree planted matters
towards a collective victory
against climate change.
In support of India's ef-
forts to harness Natural Cli-
mate Solutions lies a trans-
formative initiative that has
seen more than 900 senior
forest officers across 9 states
being trained in the princi-
ples and practices of NCS.
We are slated to reach 16
States and more than 12 sci-
entific institutions by Sep-
tember 2024. This monu-
mental endeavour aims to
align forestry practices with
India’s Nationally Deter-
mined Contributions
(NDCs) to combat climate
change, promising a signifi-
cant shift towards sustaina-
bility. This initiative, sup-
ported by The Nature Con-
servancy—one of the
world's leading conservation
and scientific organiza-
tions—and hosted by TERI
School ofAdvanced Studies,
represents one of the largest
Knowledge and Training
Initiatives on NCS in India.
Given that the Forest De-
partment controls over 80
million hectares of land in
the country, the potential im-
pact of this training is im-
mense. It's a vivid example
of how capacity building can
catalyze environmental
stewardship, demonstrating
that the path to a sustainable
future is paved with knowl-
edge, collaboration, and a
deep respect for nature's ca-
pabilities.
Indeed, over the past 10
months or so, I have pursued
the mission of imparting us-
able knowledge to Indian
Forest Service officers and
forest personnel across vari-
ous states in India, empha-
sizing the critical impor-
tance and evidence-based
practical implementation of
natural climate solutions
(NCS). My commitment has
been driven by an urgency
to address climate change
through sustainable prac-
tices deeply rooted in my
lifelong learning from sci-
entific, experiential and in-
digenous knowledge gained
over four decades. Through
comprehensive workshops,
engaging discussions, and
hands-on field sessions, I
have not only disseminated
valuable knowledge but also
ignited a transformative
shift towards taking NCS
actions on the ground. The
positive changes that have
since emerged in the field
stand as a testament to the
usefulness of training and
the potential of knowledge-
able field officers to bring
meaningful impact. It is
deeply satisfying that my ef-
forts have fostered a flour-
ishing enthusiasm and dedi-
cation among these guardi-
ans of our natural heritage
such as forests, grasslands,
wetlands, agroecosystems
and other ecosystems.
These efforts are ensuring
that NCS do not merely re-
main theoretical concepts
but are actively woven into
the fabric of every effort
aimed at the sustainability
of planet Earth. The journey
continues.

  • 4. ecently, in the national convention of BJP held in New Del- hi, there was a discussion on forming the Modi gov- ernment for the third time in the country as well as realizing the dream of a developed India. Whatever Modi said on this occasion is worth considering. Modi said that we have come out not for politics but for na- tional policy. The heights that India has achieved in every field today have united every indian with a great resolve. This resolu- tion is of developed India. Modi has been talking about developed India for a long time. He has set a target of making the coun- try developed by 2047. He often says that now the country can neither see small dreams nor take small resolutions. Now dreams will also be huge and resolutions will also be huge. It is our dream and resolution that we have to make India developed. It is true that Modi never showed small dreams to the public. He has always been talking about a strong, capable and developed In- dia and his government has been working continuous- ly in that direction since 2014. In 2014, more than 17 crore people voted for BJP and formed the Modi government with a major- ity of 282 seats because they had an expectation from Modi. After five years, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, more than 23 crore voters voted and gave 303 seats to BJP only because Modi lived up to their expectations. Lok Sabha elections are being held this year. With the achievements of Modi government, BJP has en- tered the election field un- der the leadership of Modi. This time the target is to cross 400 but the big ques- tion is how will BJP be able to achieve such a huge target? Political analysts are answering this as a guarantee from Modi. It is believed that on the basis of Modi’s guarantee, BJP will form the government at the Center for the third time. BJP will contest the elections on the basis of its achievements and its poli- cies and programs in the last ten years. This election will be fought by BJP on the basis of the work that Modi has been doing for the last ten years for the revival of cultural India. Modi himself has an- nounced guarantee of 370 seats for BJPand 400 seats for NDA and votes of 66 crore voters in 2024. Modi has done so much for cultural development in the country, which is dif- ficult to describe in words. Extensive work has been done for every section in- cluding energy, foreign policy, security, medicine, education, development of cultural tourism, economic progress, poor welfare, women upliftment. This represents taking difficult decisions for the nation. The world worships power and Modi has cherished the dream of making Mother India powerful since childhood. The abo- lition of Article 370 from Kashmir has been a his- toric step. It is an honor to become Central Vista in Delhi. Modi is worrying about every class. He is working like an ascetic. He considers 140 crore people of the country as his idol. The resolutions of Satvik ascetic people are always fulfilled because the reso- lutions of crores of people also join with them. The country is moving forward in this spirit. Even when Modi was the Chief Minister of Gu- jarat for 15 years, he gave the ‘Gujarat Development Model’ to the country and established Gujarat as Vi- brant Gujarat in the whole world. After he became the Prime Minister, the entire country is moving on the path of progress. Whatever the Modi gov- ernment has done in the last ten years, the condition of the common people has improved. Per capita in- come has increased but the target is still far but not impenetrable. Modi is con- tinuously working in this direction. Modi had launched the Make in India program in 2014. This is a kind of indigenous pro- gram started with the aim of creating employment opportunities and promot- ing the manufacturing sec- tor in the country. Make in India covers all sectors of the economy and its prom- ising results are continu- ously emerging. Modi has done a lot for the uplift- ment of farmers and agri- culture in the country. Un- der PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, the Central Government is providing assistance of Rs 6,000 to small farmers of the coun- try. The use of drones is being promoted in agricul- ture. There is maximum emphasis on improved farming. It is not hidden from anyone how much the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana has benefited the needy sec- tions of the country. We are already seeing how Ujjwa- la Yojana has changed the lives of women. Earlier, house of a poor person used to be sold for the treatment of disease, but the facility of free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh under the Ayushman Bharat scheme of Modi government has changed the situation. There are many schemes like Prad- han Mantri Jeevan Jyoti BimaYojana,Atal Pension Yojana and Pradhan Man- tri Suraksha Bima Yojana, which were run with the aim of protecting the large population of the country, which have provided sup- port to the common peo- ple. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the dream of crores of people of owning a house has come true. The country’s economy is strengthening rapidly. There was a time when the country’s gold had to be mortgaged, but in the last ten years, India’s foreign exchange reserves have doubled to reach $616.7 billion. This data released by RBI is till Jan- uary 26, 2024. Economic experts believe that this has increased our liquidity in terms of foreign ex- change and the country is fully capable of dealing with any external econom- ic crisis or risk. The credit for this goes to many major reforms in the policies of Modi government, trade balance, controlled infla- tion, stable stock market and attraction of foreign investors. While the impeccable tenure of 10 years of Modi government is commend- able, taking 25 crore peo- ple out of poverty is com- mendable. The way Modi government has freed the country from mega-scams and terror and has tried to improve the lives of the poor, it is a big achieve- ment. The way Modi ig- nited the spark of change in the governance system under ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Vikas’, it has become possible to move towards inclusive, development-oriented and corruption-free govern- ance. Due to the foresight of Modi, there has been success in realizing the ob- jective of Antyodaya and making the people sitting at the last corner of the so- ciety benefit from the gov- ernment schemes. Various international agencies have confirmed that under the leadership of PM Modi, India is eliminating pov- erty at a record pace.Agen- cies have credit this to various decisions taken by the Modi government keeping in mind the inter- ests of the poor. Under the Suryodaya Yojana, the pledge to install solar pan- els on one crore houses of poor and middle class fam- ilies and the use of solar energy, wind energy and renewable and green en- ergy will not only solve the energy crisis but will also help in removing carbon pollution from the world. The construction of Shri Ram Temple has filled the country with a new energy. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL TOP TWEETS SPIRITUAL SPEAK All that we are is the result of what we have thought. We are made of our thoughts; we are molded by our thoughts. BHAGAVAD GITA MODI MAPS FUTURE Modi has said that he is asking for a third term not for the sake of enjoying power, but for the sake of a developed India. He wants to work completely on the model of developed India in the third term of the government and this model is not of western imitation. Modi’s model of developed India includes upliftment of farmers and agriculture, control on consumerist expenditure, good educa- tion, better medical care, economic self-reliance, promotion of cultural val- ues, work for every hand. He wants to awaken the consciousness of nation. India is emerging rapidly on the world economic scene. The ministry’s January 2024 economic review said India will become the world’s third- largest economy with a GDP of $5 trillion in the next three years. And with continued reforms it is expected to reach $7 trillion by 2030. Modi has already made its roadmap. In the next five years, there is a possibility that the work stalled for the last 70 years will not only be completed but all the cit- izens will also be motivated to fulfill their duties towards the developed nation. DEVELOPEDINDIA MODI’SDREAMNATION’SRESOLVE IN-DEPTH SHARAD PAWAR’S GAMBIT SURPRISES NCP PARTNERS KEEP A WATCH ON MISINFORMATION all it Sharad Pawar’s gambit which has left CongressandShivSena(Uddhav)flummoxed about his next move. The wily Maharashtra strongman invited Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his two deputies---Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar (whobroketheNationalistCongressParty)---forlunch in his constituency Baramati. Unless they are privy to Sharad Pawar’s next move, even the above three lead- ers would be wondering why the NCPchief was being so gracious. They have so far kept mum. The personal invites to his rivals was even more surprising as Sharad Pawar himself has not been in- vited for an event where all three leaders will be pre- sent. The ruling combine’s intent is obvious: weaken Sharad Pawar’s hold on Baramati in the Lok Sabha elections. His daughter Supriya Sule is a Lok Sabha MP from Baramati. She may have to face Ajit Pa- war’s wife Sunetra Pawar in the forthcoming elec- tions. Will Sharad Pawar join the queue that goes to the BJP headquarters? C eepfakes fuel misinformation, posing a threat to India’s upcoming elections. IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar labelled it a “very problematic issue,” hinting at stricter laws for social media companies failing to regulate content. Preced- ing his warning, the government advised these firms to comply with Information Technology Rules. With Lok Sabha elections looming, concerns mount over AI-driven misinformation and deepfakes. Chan- drasekhar emphasized that deepfakes, bolstered byAI, escalate risks to the safety and trust of digital citizens. As the nation braces for polls, and the fear of ma- nipulated content looms large, Google seems to have taken a step in the right direction by tying up with fact-checkers for ear- ly detection of online misinformation, in- cluding deepfakes and “to create a com- mon repository” for the use of media houses. To fight the menace of misinfor- mation, Google said in a blog post, it will support “Shakti, In- dia Election Fact- Checking Collective, a consortium of fact- checkers working together to aid the early detection of on- line misinformation, including deepfakes” to help people better evaluate online information”. The best example of how misinformation can erode people’s trust in democracy was seen during the 2020 US presidential election when a false meta- narrative about voter fraud began to be spread. A study by Stanford University, however, found that compared to the 2016 elections fewerAmericans vis- ited unreliable websites. The study concluded that “mitigation and education efforts to identify misin- formation are working”. • 8. ‘India has eliminated extreme poverty,’claims US think-tank First India Bureau New Delhi he American Think Tank Brookings In- stitution has noted that India has eliminated ex- treme poverty, which can be seen through the sharp decline in head- count poverty ratio and stark increase in house- hold consumption The report, authored by Surjit Bhalla and Karan Bhasin, states that this has been a re- sult of the government’s strong policy thrust on redistribution, which has led to strong inclu- sive growth in India over the last decade. The report said high growth and large decline in inequality have com- bined to eliminate pov- erty in India. The data show a strikingly lower number of poor people in India, than those estimat- ed by the World Bank. The Headcount Pov- erty Ratio at Purchase Power Parity $ 1.9 level has declined from 12.2 % in 2011-12 to 2 % in 2022-23. The authors believe that the relatively higher consumption growth in rural areas should not come as a sur- prise given the “strong policy thrust on redistri- bution through a wide variety of publicly fund- ed programmes. The report further states that elimination of extreme poverty is an encouraging development with positive implications for global poverty headcount rates. But sources close to the Congress top leadership are saying with confidence that ‘whether there is a Congress government in Himachal after the Lok Sabha election or not, at least Sukhu will not be the CM of Himachal post elections.’ If sources are to be believed, the former Chief Minister of the Congress, who is now drenched in saffron i.e. Captain Amarinder Singh had an important role in the cultivation of Rani Pratibha Singh and her son Vikramaditya Singh. Amarinder Singh is related to Pratibha Singh’s late husband Virbhadra Singh, hence both the families are very close to each other. Anyway, all the half-dozen MLAs who switched sides in this Rajya Sabha election and were disqualified by the Congress are said to be from Pratibha Singh’s camp. Out of these MLAs, Himachal Congress in- charge Rajiv Shukla wanted to make two MLAs ministers in the Sukhu government. So this time the blame is falling on Shukla ji also. Congress supporters are taking him to task on social media and even calling him an ‘agent’ of BJP. When DK Shivakumar was sent to Shimla consider- ing the seriousness of the matter, the first thing he said to Pratibha Singh was that ‘she will be made the CM of Himachal after the Lok Sabha elections’. It is said that only after this her son Vikramaditya Singh agreed to withdraw his resigna- tion. It is said that DK has also assured Pratibha that these six MLAs will return home and has also said that ‘the party high command will not take any action against them.’ T he Left parties, which were following the steps of Congress and INDI Alliance, have also changed their mind about Congress. Recently, the Marxist Communist Party i.e. CPM in its mouthpiece ‘People’s Democracy’ has cursed the Congress lead- ership. Pointing towards the Himachal episode, the party has accused the Con- gress of doing politics and wanted to know that ‘when so much was going on in the inner room of Himachal for so many days, then was the Congress leadership was sleeping?’ Regarding Kamal Nath, CPM took a jibe at the Congress and said ‘Kamal Nath went to court of Dhirendra Shastri but Congress leadership did not take any notice.’ It has been said in mouth- piece that ‘Congress will have to connect with the land, its roots and make its ideology stronger, it will have to understand with whom it is competing. The real strength of BJP is Sangh but why does Congress not understand it.’ CPM has also directly challenged Rahul and told him that ‘contesting elections here in Wayanad will not work, because BJP is not in competition here.’ Party’s Politburo also believes that ‘if Rahul really wants to stand as a leader, then he will have to go and fight battle there where he has a direct fight with BJP. That is, the Left wants Rahul Gandhi to at least go to Amethi and contest the elections. T n employment fair was organised in the Vidya Pratisthan College campus of Baramati on Saturday, March 2 and this fair was named ‘Namo Maha Rozgar Melawa’. This fair was scheduled to be inaugurated by Maharash- tra CM Eknath Shinde and along with him, his two deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar had also visited Baramati. When senior Maratha leader Sharad Pawar came to know about the programme of these three leaders to come to Baramati, he hur- riedly invited Shinde, Fadnavis and Ajit to his house for dinner. Citing their respective arrangements, both Shinde and Fadnavis rejected Sharad Pawar’s dinner invitation. Actu- ally, Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule is the MP from Baramati and BJP is under pres- sure from Ajit Pawar to field his wife Sunetra Pawar against Supriya, so that the fight becomes high profile. He wants to field his son Parth Pawar in place of his wife. But Sunetra comes from a political family and is also known for social work in the area and she has also been active in Baramati for a long time. Supriya has been representing Baramati for 3 times, while Ajit Pawar had also won the parlia- mentary elections from Baramati in 1991. He is also a 7-time MLA from this area, hence this time the parliamentary elections of Baramati have become very interesting. A HOWLONGWILLNITISHBECM? here is ongoing turmoil in both the major alliances of Bihar as MLAs are also moving here and there. Recently, 7 MLAs of RJD and Congress have defected to BJP and apart from this, 4 MLAs of Jitan Ram Manjhi and independent Sumit Kumar Singh are also with BJP. 11 Congress MLAs are still in the throes of ‘Operation Lotus’. That is, the BJP which had only 74 MLAs in the last as- sembly elections, is today the largest political party in the state. Even JDU is not safe from the heat of Operation Lotus and that is why JDU chief Nitish Kumar is still talking about this and insisting that ‘Bihar assembly elections should also be held along with this Lok Sabha elections’. But BJP has changed its tactics and made a new move that ‘Now the CM should be of BJP.’ So if Nitish is not successful in holding both the elections together, then he may be out of office in May-June. We experimented with what is called Natural Cli- mate Solutions (NCS). This included such restoring nearby forests, creating rainwater harvesting struc- tures, and incorporating farmyard manure along with green manuring into their agricultural practices. We witnessed a remarkable transformation. These ef- forts brought improved wa- ter availability in our dried wells. We could afford en- hanced irrigation during ter- minal drought spells. We could enrich soil carbon in our farms. Ultimately, all this led to better farm yields and improved livelihoods. This story exemplifies just one of the many ways NCS can positively impact eco- systems, economies, and communities. Let us see another exam- ple. It's not one marked by the clamour of industry or the whirlwind of technology, but by the gentle rustle of leaves, the whisper of grass- lands, and the silent vigil of wetlands. This is the story of Natu- ral Climate Solutions (NCS) - an ancient wisdom being rediscovered and embraced in modern India's fight against climate change. And, I am happy to be part of this journey. NCS refers to sustainable management and restoration of natural ecosystems such as forests, grasslands, and wetlands, to capture carbon dioxide from the atmos- phere. It also encompasses adaptation to climate change. At its core, NCS is about working with nature, rather than against it, to ad- dress the climate crisis. But why do these solutions mat- ter to all of us The answer lies not just in their ability to miti- gate climate change but also in their profound impact on biodiversity, water security, and livelihoods. Indeed, NCSs are the answer to more than 30 % problem of car- bon emissions. India, with its diverse eco- systems, ranging from the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas to the lush West- ern Ghats and the vast Thar Desert, presents a unique as- semblage of landscapes for implementing NCS. The country is home to over 3708 tree species of trees, each playing a role in the carbon cycle.Yet, the poten- tial of these natural allies has been underutilized until re- cently. The situation is changing though. Consider the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world, straddling In- dia and Bangladesh. Man- groves are among the most effective carbon sinks on the planet. A study published in the journal Nature Climate Change highlighted that mangroves could sequester four times more carbon per unit area than tropical rain- forests. The Sundarbans and similar other mangroves in India could be a key player in India's climate strategy, safeguarding millions of people from the devastations of cyclones while sequester- ing vast amounts of carbon. We must, however, under- stand that natural climate solutions are not merely about the big projects or players. Indeed, every action matters. Throughout the country, small-scale projects are demonstrating the power of local action. In the arid landscapes of Rajasthan, learning from the ancient practice of growing trees on farms, community-led ef- forts have transformed de- graded farms into thriving agroforestry systems. These initiatives not only sequester carbon but also enhance food security and provide sustainable livelihoods to rural communities. The economic argument for NCS is compelling. Ac- cording to a report by the World Resources Institute, every dollar invested in res- toration and sustainable for- est management can yield up to $30 in economic benefits. These benefits come in the form of improved water fil- tration, flood protection, en- hanced soil fertility, and the global value of carbon se- questration. We must, how- ever, be clear that the success of NCS hinges on the par- ticipation and support of lo- cal communities, for they are on the frontlines of bearing the brunt of climate change. Consequently, recognizing their role and ensuring that NCS pathways are equitable and inclusive is crucial. As India strides towards its ambitious goal of seques- tering 2.5 to 3 billion tons of CO2 equivalent by 2030, the role of NCS cannot be over- stated. The government's commitment, reflected in policies such as the National Agroforestry Policy and the CompensatoryAfforestation FundAct is a step in the right direction. However, realiz- ing the full potential of NCS requires scaling up these efforts, fostering in- novation, and building part- nerships across sectors. The NCS are an authentication of the power of nature to re- grow and sustain beyond shocks and ravages, if we intervene at the right time and right manner. NCS in- terventions draw on scien- tific, experiential and tradi- tional knowledge for a greener and climate-resilient future. As we stand at the crossroads of crisis related to climate change, conserva- tion and livelihoods, let the initial success of NCS inter- ventions remind us that in nature, we find our most po- tent solutions. Together, em- bracing the principles of NCS, we can create a path to a sustainable world, for our- selves, and for the genera- tions to come. It is interesting to recall the innovative initiatives that are unfolding after our State Roundtable on NCS. We recently had a knowl- edge and training roundtable in Gujarat. We discussed the multifaceted benefits of NCS—not just for carbon sequestration but also for enhancing biodiversity, wa- ter security, mangrove resto- ration, rewilding empty for- ests, and community livelihoods. The realization that this work could directly contrib- ute to India's climate goals while also addressing local environmental and social is- sues was profoundly impact- ful. Gujarat has recently en- tered into an MoU with an international organization to bring US$266 million for mangrove restoration. Another example comes from Haryana. Following the lead from the discussions on the State Roundtable on NCS, Haryana has enacted an ambitious programme of tree planting on non-forest lands with the participation of citizens. It is called the Van Mitra Scheme and provides assured incen- tives tied to the survival and growth of the planted sap- lings. As we move ahead to address climate change, con- servation, and livelihoods, the early successes of NCS interventions serve as a powerful reminder of na- ture's solutions. By imple- menting NCS principles, pathways and practice, India is not just addressing its cli- mate commitments but also sowing the seeds for a green- er, more resilient future for generations to come. This journey, enriched with knowledge, collaboration, and respect for nature's ca- pabilities, illuminates the path to sustainability—a path where every step, every initiative, every action, and every tree planted matters towards a collective victory against climate change. In support of India's ef- forts to harness Natural Cli- mate Solutions lies a trans- formative initiative that has seen more than 900 senior forest officers across 9 states being trained in the princi- ples and practices of NCS. We are slated to reach 16 States and more than 12 sci- entific institutions by Sep- tember 2024. This monu- mental endeavour aims to align forestry practices with India’s Nationally Deter- mined Contributions (NDCs) to combat climate change, promising a signifi- cant shift towards sustaina- bility. This initiative, sup- ported by The Nature Con- servancy—one of the world's leading conservation and scientific organiza- tions—and hosted by TERI School ofAdvanced Studies, represents one of the largest Knowledge and Training Initiatives on NCS in India. Given that the Forest De- partment controls over 80 million hectares of land in the country, the potential im- pact of this training is im- mense. It's a vivid example of how capacity building can catalyze environmental stewardship, demonstrating that the path to a sustainable future is paved with knowl- edge, collaboration, and a deep respect for nature's ca- pabilities. Indeed, over the past 10 months or so, I have pursued the mission of imparting us- able knowledge to Indian Forest Service officers and forest personnel across vari- ous states in India, empha- sizing the critical impor- tance and evidence-based practical implementation of natural climate solutions (NCS). My commitment has been driven by an urgency to address climate change through sustainable prac- tices deeply rooted in my lifelong learning from sci- entific, experiential and in- digenous knowledge gained over four decades. Through comprehensive workshops, engaging discussions, and hands-on field sessions, I have not only disseminated valuable knowledge but also ignited a transformative shift towards taking NCS actions on the ground. The positive changes that have since emerged in the field stand as a testament to the usefulness of training and the potential of knowledge- able field officers to bring meaningful impact. It is deeply satisfying that my ef- forts have fostered a flour- ishing enthusiasm and dedi- cation among these guardi- ans of our natural heritage such as forests, grasslands, wetlands, agroecosystems and other ecosystems. These efforts are ensuring that NCS do not merely re- main theoretical concepts but are actively woven into the fabric of every effort aimed at the sustainability of planet Earth. The journey continues.
