welcome
1. Try new things
Try new foods. Check out the latest museum exhibits. Read books that are outside your area of expertise. And don’t be afraid to take bigger risks,
such as moving across the country. It’s the life experiences that broaden your perspective.
2. Don’t be afraid to fail
3. Talk to strangers
The majority of your future successes are waiting outside your immediate network, says Judy Robinett, author of How to Be a Power Connector.
4. Be willing to change
To stay relevant as you move forward in life, you have to be willing to embrace change, says Jason Jennings, author of The Reinventors.
5. Write a personal mission statement
A mission sums up who you are and what you stand for; it brings focus and purpose to your work.
A template for writing one: The value you create + who you’re creating it for + the expected outcome. For example: I use my passion for words to
inspire readers to think in new ways.
6. Don’t try to fit in
7. Don’t confuse having an opinion with having a thought
“Thinking is the process of generating an original idea or distinction, it requires energy and attention; having an opinion requires neither. Instead of
deciding whether or not you like the idea, ask yourself, ‘Where’s the power in this for me?’”
8. Don’t get hung up on perfect
“Excelling sounds like a good thing, but if you use this mindset in everything you do, you’re spending a huge amount of time on things that aren’t
important. Instead, identify the things that are worth “gold plating,” and then adopt a policy where good is good enough.
10. Don’t worry about the big picture–celebrate every milestone

The Figure in Art
For thousands of years the human figure has appeared in art. Early cave
paintings show figures of hunters simply depicted using a few strokes. In
ancient Greece human figures were the main subject on decorated vases.
Through the ages the human figure has appeared in portraits, has been used
to tell stories or express beliefs, or used to explore what it is to be human.
At art school drawing from the human figure is
often one of the first skills taught. Life drawing
helps young artists to look closely and
understand proportions, as well as experiment
with techniques.
(Tate)
Lets explore some of the ways artists have
drawn and painted the human figure from life:
The Figure in Art
Task:
Take some paper. Write a list of all the artists ou can think
of that use the human figure as subject matter for their
work.
(Keep this list, it’s going to be useful later).

Constructivism was a particularly austere branch of abstract art founded by
Vladimir Tatlin and Alexander Rodchenko in Russia around 1915
The material formation of the object is to be substituted for its aesthetic
combination. The object is to be treated as a whole and thus will be of no
discernible ‘style’ but simply a product of an industrial order like a car, an
aeroplane and such like. Constructivism is a purely technical mastery and
organisation of materials.
