The CCARA project aims to assess earthquake risk in the Caribbean and Central America region. It was conceived by the OECD in 2004 and founded in 2009 by public and private partners as a non-profit organization in Pavia, Italy. The project brings together experts and stakeholders from the region to develop hazard and risk models and provide training, workshops and meetings to build capacity for earthquake risk assessment and management. Key activities included a 2016 kick-off meeting, 2017 intensive training at GEM headquarters, mapathons to collect exposure data, and workshops on hazard modeling and risk metrics.
