We have designed a sponge that cleans oil from seawater. The idea is to tow a very long barrier made of this sponge along the sea water and clean the surface.

3. Introdution Sea Pollution
●
What is it? Marine pollution occurs when some
pollutans come into contact with the sea or caused
by accidents.
●
These are the factors that have most polluted the
sea in history and there have been some serious
accidents that we report below.
●
In recent years there has been a decrease in these
accidents the annual average of oil poured into the
sea remains very high: 4 milion tons for year of these
600.000 in the Mediterranen sea.
4. List of the most serious accidents in the last centuary
5. What is the Oleo Sponge?
●
Oleo Sponge is a special sponge for the collection of hydrocarbons
which, according to the inventors, has a thousand lives.
●
Oleo Sponge is a sponge composed of a polyurethane foam, it has
been covered with a thin layer of metal oxide that acts as a sort of
adhesive, able to attract oil molecules, separating them from the
water.
●
It is an invention of the Argonne National Laboratory, one of the most
important national research centers in the United States,
6. What benefits it
would bring? ●
Reduction of quantity of
hydrocarbons in the sea
●
Improvement of the marine
ecosystem
●
Improving the sea quality
●
Reduction of the risk of
extincton of some living beings
7. Oleo Sponge it can be used to
cleans the marine surface from
hydrocarbons as much as
possible
8. Our idea is to hook the Oleo Sponge to two
ships equipped with rear hooks to try to
clean the marine surface as quickly as
possible
