2. About Gothic periods
GOTHIC FURNITURE statement of wealth and opulence since the furniture was a rarity
in the 12th and 13th centuries. The 14th century, however, brought a more functional
quality to Gothic furniture, which spread its popularity across Europe.
Gothic art evolved from Romanesque art and lasted from the
mid-12th century to as late as the end of the 16th century in
some areas.

3. Gothic furniture is characterized by ornate, unique
artwork that contains the same elements found in Gothic
architecture. This architectural style is associated with
church design, and Gothic furniture was created to
complement it. Specific design characteristics that
appear in the furniture are gargoyles, flying buttresses,
and quatrefoil and trefoil shapes. Pointed arches,
tracery, heavy fabrics, and heavy woods are some other
characteristics of this type of furniture.
The Gothic style also inspired Gothic
literature which became popular in the
18th Century and played into the
Medieval fear of the apocalypse,
monsters and the devil. Frankenstein,
written in 1816, is one of the most
famous Gothic novels.
