OF A LADY' BY KHUSHWANT SINGH, ARE AS
FOLLOWS :
• 1. The village school taught religious scriptures while there was no
focus on religious teaching in the city school. The author's
grandmother strongly disapproved of this lack of religious education
in the English school.
• 2. Music lessons were imparted in the city school while no music
education was imparted in the village school. The author's
grandmother strongly disapproved of these lessons as she firmly
believed that learning music suited only the lower strata of the society
like harlots and beggars.
• 3. The city school taught English and western Science while the village
school focused on the alphabet and the morning prayer. The
narrator's grandmother could not assist him with the language
learning and scientific concepts taught in the city school.
