Mourner's song
1. Mourner’s Song
I follow the feathers
Down along the dark path they lead
Back to the tomb where she’s buried
The only place in the universe my strength leaves
The place to which I am most empty
For I remember that day with perfect clarity
The day she left me
The day she fell, and with her the sun plummeting
All light extinguished from my world,
Only this trail of luminescent feathers to guide me,
Back to the only place I cannot bear to be
Since that day one thought tears through me
Ripping through all sentiments of grief,
Burning with white hot intensity
Surely my love can return her to me!
Why else would my angel’s feathers continue glowing?
Surely my passion can awaken her soul’s longing
My kiss awaken her memory
My touch awaken her body
Surely this is the reason I am drawn to this place of resting
She does not wish to be without me
She is calling to me!
Not even the snow will cover the earthen blanket above her body
These are signs,
She wants her awakening!
Even now as I kneel here on icy knees I can feel the ground pushing back upon me
Eternity please! Release her soul to me!
Haven’t you enough to keep you company?
There is not one left for me, she was my destiny
I have nothing left to offer in trade, but know I would give anything,
Please, I am begging thee; return that which was taken from me
And in that utterance the earth is parted,
Two pale hands break free from their captivity
Flowed by a flash of brilliant light as I awaken from my sleep
With only the chill of a gravestone to keep me company.
