Lomanno 8/13/2012 The fairy tales that we grew up with are not the originals. Disney and the
brothers Grimm had two very different versions. While many of us grew up watching cute birds and
mice following the woe begotten princess, the original stories were forgotten by most. These stories
were far darker, ending in cruel justice for a stepsister or worse. The difference between aspects of
the two tales discussed, in some instances, is the difference between night and day. Grimm fairy

Everyone knows that when the queen discovers that Snow White's beauty is greater than hers, she
asks the huntsman to kill her. Finally, we all know that the dwarves take care of her until her death,
at which point the prince comes to the rescue and awakens her with a kiss. These are all elements of
the story that we come to expect when we hear the name Snow White. In the brothers Grimm
version, the queen still demands the death of Snow White and the Huntsman still lets her go. Only
this time he kills a boar and brings the queen back its lungs and liver and she eats them, thinking
that they are from Snow White's body. Snow White still meets the dwarves in the woods, but their
introduction to her was more akin to that of goldilocks and the three bears. Then, when she is
poisoned by the apple, the kiss of the prince is not what awakens her. Instead the prince begs the
dwarves to have her dead body and the trip to the castle dislodges the apple bite caught in her throat.
Finally, at the marriage of the happy couple, the queen arrives and is forced to dance in red hot iron
shoes until she dies. Definitely not what one would remember from the Disney adaptation. These are

Once upon a time there was a fairy named Sophie. Now, Sophie lived in an enchanted forest. Sophie
also had no parents, no aunts, no uncles. . . no family. Sophie's parents had gone on a mission to help
the forest when she was just a little fairy. They never returned. She had been raised by the forest
itself. But even though she had no family, she was as happy as happy could be. But then one day

Well let's start with how a girl's life changes in a matter of time. Her name is Rose a 17 year old girl.
She has a little secret of being a fairy! Her parents know of course, so now they decided to send her
to a school in holoville. At first, she had not wanted to go but since she had to control her magic
since it's been getting out of control...that was a week ago. Packed up and ready to leave she says

It was a dark, stormy, night. Josie and her Dad, Tod were working on the Halloween decorations
outside, they were wonderful. With dark, spooky goblins and statues that moved when you walked
past them, they also had cobwebs, which hanged with spiders and flashing lights. One other thing
they had was fog that flew up into the air and filled around the house, giving it a spooky glow. Tod
had gone inside to get a drink, when Josie heard a very low growl. She wanted to go check it out,
but thought it would be better to stay where she was, since there are a lot of weird people roaming

Tolkien believes that humans are the creation of a higher being and are made in its image. As such
qualities of this higher being are imbued upon its creation leading humans to have the desire to
create. With this mentality, Tolkien finds that all makers of fairy stories hope to create worlds,

that if a writer is able to masterfully create a secondary world that is able to stand on its own then

We Are All Familiar With Bible Stories And Fairy Tales
We are all familiar with Bible stories and fairy tales. They typically began as verbal stories, passed
down from generation to generation, before they were put down on paper or made into a film.
Stories which use outlandish situations to, ideally, teach the readers how to live as good people.
Stories such as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Jonah and the Whale, Noah 's Ark,
Hansel and Gretel, and The Adventures of Pinocchio include situations which could not have
possibly happened. These stories may help lull children to sleep but, at the same time, teach morals
in a harsh or even violent manner. Like fairy tales, the Bible was written to teach stories to
impressionable minds. Unlike fairy tales, Bible stories are still read today, they are not only read by
children, but by adults with or without children. Many Christians today will argue that the Bible
stories, such as Jonah and the Whale, Noah 's Ark, Adam and Eve, and such, were not written to take
literally. If they are correct in assuming those stories are not literal encounters, then how would
someone venturing through the bible know what to take literally and what to take as the word of
God? If the stories of the Bible were never meant to be accepted as real events, then can they be

The forest of Quedayla, is located next to the swamp. The swamp is where the terrifying monsters,
by the fairies standards, are banished, where they will never have peace, while being on high alert
for the dangerous swamp creatures that lurk among them. One of the monsters in the swamp is

story about a teacher that bit more than what he/she could chew. Although, it's not bad being an

upon my mind, but one that I had actually dreamt about became my story. So here is my dream

lived in a massive mansion that was four stories high with an elevator in it. Her name was Madison,
a 16–year–old girl who cried over spilled milk. From time to time, she would throw money at
commoners and say it was a good deed. Her maid, the same age as her, had an imperfect life with a
flawed house. She slept in a room with four of her siblings, struggling to find a comfortable place to
sleep at. Her name was Misty, a girl who lived in a financially unstable house because she wasn't as
"Lucky" like Madison was.
One day, Madison was going to attend a social gathering so she had to dress to impress. She wanted
the dress to be one of a kind, a dress that'll make people resentful. So she went shopping and found
this gorgeous dress, she begged her dad to get her this dazzling gown with 10,000 carats of gems
that were used to decorate it. Of course, the dad would not decline his daughter's wishes and bought
the 1 million dollar dress without an ounce of hesitation. Later on, Madison decided to try on her
new dress at home just to see if it was a perfect fit. She asked Misty to go fetch her a glass of milk

This quote is about the main character Bilbo Baggins a hobbit whom has never left the borders of
the shire or had a desire for adventure until Tolkien inserts the character Gandalf. Tolkien's The
Hobbit revolves around this concept of desire where everyone in the story desires something

To begin, I'd like to acknowledge the fact that the story of Pocahontas is not actually a fairy tale, and
is based on true events. However, I chose this Disney movie because it is exaggerated and has some
make–believe characters that fit perfectly in correlation to the sacred. The story begins with a group
of English settlers on a voyage to the New World. They are lead by Captain John Smith and

1. What characteristic does the bachelor's story share with the modern fairy story? In what ways
does it subvert the audiences' expectations?
Like most modern fairy stories the bachelor's story begins with the phrase 'Once upon a time', has a
reoccurring pattern (the word 'good'), incudes a prince, animals, good versus evil and a journey. That
is, Bertha, the main character who receives multiple rewards for being good, comes face to face with
a ravenous wolf while strolling through a park. Unlike Little Red Riding hood or other fairy tale
heroines, a prince or bystander does not come to rescue Bertha. Nor, is there any magical
intervention. Instead, the story subverts the audiences' expectation by having the main character
killed because of her goodness (being too good) while no punishment befalls the wolf. This goes
against the conventional happy ending, and the narrative 'good things happen to good people'.
Additionally, the setting and the verbiage used to describe Bertha is unconventional. Flowers hold
different meanings, but typically represent beauty, and may signify prosperity. For this reason, the

hornbooks, which were design to indoctrinate young readers. On the other hand, I agree more with
the bachelor who sees children's literature as a form of entertainment that can teach lessons. Similar

Short Story : My Fairy Godmother
My Fairy Godmother – Life is a paradox and I have come to embrace this because I have seen how
both the good, awesome, exciting things in life are also accompanied by the sad, hurtful,
embarrassing, painful things of life. Growing up, I thrived on fairy tales as an escape, hoping for an
idealistic happy ending to a childhood of abuse and neglect. Cinderella was my favorite protagonist
because I identified with her. She, just like me, went through rejection and was treated poorly. I tried
to emulate her hardworking, humble, and obedient nature to gain approval from everyone. She was
also bullied and never given opportunities to thrive until one magical night! That scene was, for me,
was the climax of the story because the fairy godmother was a lot like my grandma. I always felt
loved and valued when I was with her without trying to prove to her I was worthy of her love. I
identified with this scene because Cinderella's fairy godmother gave her a beautiful gown for the
prince's ball, while my grandma would stitch and knit dresses for me. My gradma, knew I loved
fairy tales and that my favorite color was red, so she knitted a poncho like the one in Little Red
Riding Hood. She showed me what true, unconditional love is and I strive to share that love with
those around me.
Stories Help Us Dream – I turned to stories that gave me hope, built my faith, and encouraged
integrity and perseverance when my parents could not offer me guidance. Stories made such a
significant impact in my life, that I not only read them but made them up as well. I adapted stories to
include protagonists that resembled me and added more adventure to lengthen them. In India, where
I come from, every lesson is taught with a parable and as a result, the moral of the story is not only
easy to remember but also gets retold many times. Aesop's fable about the, "Wind and The Sun",
taught me the importance of humility while "David and Goliath", taught me that I could conquer my
fears with God on my side. When I was a teen most of my favorite stories came from the Bible. I
was enamored by Samson's strength and Solomon's wisdom to the extent that I told my dad I would
marry someone with brain and brawn. This pretty much came to pass, when I married

For centuries fairy tales and folk stories have been created and told to entertain audiences and
explain the world. The stories hold clear messages for their readers, but they also send more subtle
messages with their details. Fairy tales are especially targeted, though not exclusively, at children
because they are passed on by parents each night before bed. But some of the stories that have been
told for a long time across many different cultures have affected the perspectives of people more
than they realize. One of the most well–known examples of a fairy tale that has been influential in
American culture is the classic tale of Cinderella. Though the details of the tale can vary with
different authors and cultures, aspects of it have taken on a certain significance in modern American
culture in multiple ways and the story keeps changing as society progresses. Cinderella now serves
as a reference point in American culture that contains societal messages about gender roles, beauty,
