The Election Day Fast Approaches
In a democratic society, it is vital for citizens to participate in the electoral process and chose their
desired leader. As Election Day fast approaches, many Canadians are faced with the challenge of
who to vote for and in order to have a meaningful voice, it is essential for Canadians to acquire an
adequate understanding of the major parties' platforms. Among the major parties are Steven Harper's
Conservative Party, Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party and Tom Mulcair's New Democratic Party and
each have a unique plan to help Canada prosper. In my selected article, Mark Kennedy highlights
key issues in each party's platform including taxation, balancing the budget and views on the niqab.
From the competing platforms, it is evident that the Liberals have a stronger plan than their fellow
parties.
One major area of focus in this election is taxation and each party has a unique way to lower taxes
for Canadians. The Conservative's are assuring lower taxes for Canadians while also providing tax
breaks such as "universal child care benefits, income splitting for families, higher contribution limits
for Tax–free Savings Accounts, and a home renovation tax credit" (Kennedy). Although the
assistance these tax breaks offer some Canadians is undeniable, the author of the article fails to
mention the costs at which these benefits are received. For instance, the income splitting tax benefit
being implanted by the Conservatives is predicted to cost "2.2 billion dollars this year while

Canada Political Parties
My Opinion On Voting Canadian political parties
The NDP in my opinion, is the best party to vote for. "I know, New Democrats know, that is is
possible to grow our economy while protecting our environment," (Tom Mulcair–speech at iVote
May 2015.) The following reasons why I support the New Democratic Party are. Their belief of not
leaving anyone behind, the way they plan to grow the economy and how they will help preserve the
environment.
Firstly, The NDP's main goal, –To build a better Canada, where no one is left behind. Meaning they
will support the less fortunate Canadians and help elevate them into a better social class. They will
support the lower class by taxing the richer population, closing the income gap. This approach I

The NDP will re–prioritize the goals Canada has and treat global warming seriously, facing it now
rather than ignoring and letting it spiral out of control in the future. The NDP will combat this by
investing in the production of clean tech. By 2020, the global market for Cleantech is estimated to
be over 3–trillion. Another plan the NDP have is to ensure the construction of future national parks,
protecting the ecosystems and create new jobs at the same time. They want to increase the amount
of emissions tax corporations pay as well as decrease the limit they already have. This is a
tremendous way to help boost the economy and protect the environment. Lastly, The New
Democratic Party will fight for what made Canada such a great place to live... the Environment; that
we took for granted for the last decade exploiting and exhausting the natural resources we are
fortunate to have in Canada. The NDP will re–prioritize the goals Canada has and treat global

Essay on Tommy Douglas
Tommy Douglas
Tommy Douglas is one of the most successful politicians Canadians have ever seen. He
implemented many social policies and programs in Saskatchewan that were later adopted throughout
Canada. Most of his programs continue today and are an integral part of
Canadian society. His greatest achievement was his implementation of Medicare in
Saskatchewan. Douglas never intended to be a politician but his concern for people drove him to be
one. Thomas Douglas was born in Falkirk, Scotland on October 20, 1904. Tommy moved to
Winnipeg in 1911 along with his mother and sister to meet his father who had migrated one year
earlier. (1Thomas H Mcleod and Ian Mcleod, Tommy Douglas The

CCF won only 5 seats in the Federal election in 1935. Douglas made a name for himself in the
House of Commons as an excellent speaker. He found changes came slowly at the federal level of
government. He went on to serve two terms in
Federal politics. In 1942, while still sitting as an Member of Parliament Tommy Douglas became the
leader of the Saskatchewan CCF party. The CCF party won the provincial election in
1944. Douglas became the first leader of a socialist government in North America.
Tommy vowed to spend 70% of government money on social programs and his slogan was
"Humanity First". Tommy Douglas and the CCF were in power in Saskatchewan for
17 years. During this time Douglas held true to his word and implemented countless social policies
and changes. Douglas gave bargaining powers to unions. The CCF paid off Saskatchewan's debt,
paved roads, and provided electricity and sewage. The Crown corporations were established during
Douglas's reign. The CCF government provided the University of Saskatchewan with a medical

Why Social Capitol Is Important For The United States Of...
It is important to effectively integrate immigrants, and get them participating in Canadian political
affairs. This will help Canadian society in the long term as it allows for a clearer understanding on
how it is that their marginalized immigrant populous desires to be represented. Canada's diverse
population has various needs, and ethnic minorities are amalgamated as outliers as they continue to
experience various forms of persistent inequality in the shape of social exclusion (and more
specifically, social capitol). The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate why social capitol is
important to immigrants, identify immigrant voting patterns in accumulation to how social capitol
influences them, in addition to proposing a solution that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the ways in which social capitol seeks to incorporate immigrants into the fold of Canadian
politics is through the pursuit of education and the comprehension of language (Nakhaie, 2).
Education and language work unanimously in boosting immigrant participation levels in politics. It
is through a greater knowledge base in education, paired with a comprehension in language that
allows immigrants to acquire information and understand the mechanisms that relate to political
participation (Nakhaie, 2). Basically, as an immigrant's education increases the language barrier
depletes this allows for an immigrant to contribute and participate to a greater extent in politics
because of the diminishing language barrier (Nakhaie, 1). The development of effective and stable
government depends significantly upon the alignment that people have in regards to the political
process (Henderson, 2). This can be seen expressed in the people through another form of social
capitol being the amount of trust that they have in the political system (Nakhaie, 3). The level of
tolerance exercised, and norms of political responsibility that they feel they implement in order to
ensure political co–operation and action social cohesion is critical for societies to prosper
economically through means such as education and for development to be sustainable (Henderson,
2). Social capital is not just the sum of the institutions that fortify a society, but a binding element

Thomas Clement Douglas
From humble beginnings, migrating to Winnipeg from Scotland with his family in 1919, Thomas
Clement Douglas rose to become one of Canada's most revered politicians. Initially as a Baptist
Minister in Weyburn, Saskatchewan seeing the sick and the old suffer greatly under capitalism,
particularly during the Great Depression, Douglas wanted to do more for them than he felt he could
as a pastor.
The CBC reflects on this issue with Douglas' own comments, saying of those times "Again and
again we would leave some sitting in the hospital waiting room while we went out and borrowed or
begged a few dollars here and there till wed make up enough to pay the bill ... I buried a good many

his dream of a socialist Canada, he and his colleagues had considerable influence on government."
(Lovick and Marshall)
Regardless of his significant social justice achievements and ongoing legacy, Douglas still has his
detractors, with accusations of his support for eugenics ("the selection of desired heritable

Essay Canada´s New Democratic Party
Did you know that the current leader of the New Democratic Party used to be a Liberal? Thomas
Mulcair became the leader of the New Democratic Party after the death of Jack Layton. The New
Democratic Party (NDP) is one of the major federal political parties in Canada. The NDP was
formed in 1961 as the result of the merger of two different parties. There are numerous reasons why
the people of Canada should vote for the NDP. Citizens of Canada should vote for the New
Democratic Party because if elected, they promise to improve the environmental situation, provide
better health care for Canadians, and improve the economy in Canada.

Bulk fresh water exports from Canada will be eliminated to keep the fresh water plentiful in Canada,
and keep it from depleting rapidly. If the New Democratic Party gains power, they are going to
make the health care in Canada better for citizens. Health care is definitely a very important factor in
keeping everyone in Canada happy and healthy. Without healthcare, we will get sick more
frequently, and not going to regular checkups will make diseases more likely to affect us negatively.
The NDP is proposing to end the fees for ambulance services. This will make people more likely to
call an ambulance instead of taking a chance of driving themselves. This could save lives because
ambulances are much faster than driving yourself in a car because people are required by law to
move out of the way of an incoming ambulance on the road. The NDP is saying to give seniors the
support they need to live in their own homes instead of being forced to move to an old age home
when they get to old to care for themselves or when loved ones and family can no longer care for
them. If they get support in their homes, they will not need to go through the stress of moving to a
different environment in their late age. If they reduce their stress to as little as possible, they will be
more prone to a longer life span. The NDP is promising a fifty percent increase in the number of
doctors and nurses being trained each year, so that there is more available in hospitals and

Privacy In Canada Essay
As a Canadian in today's society we believe we have a certain set of inalienable rights. One of those
rights that seem to be at the forefront of the 2015 Canadian election is privacy. As Dr. Kent Roach
and Dr. Craig Forcese state, "privacy is, in our society, the right to be left alone by the state." The
Conservative upbringing of Bill C–51 challenges the ideology around our right to be private, as well
as our government's role in the protection of Canada from threats of terrorism. The Harper
government essentially, will increase their role in national security to keep a constant watchful eye
on potentially harmful situations and end them before anyone is hurt or killed. If passed, the bill
would allow the government to arrest anyone suspected of terrorism without that person even
committing a crime. Furthermore, the language used in the bill is extremely vague and makes one
question, where the line will be drawn? Will our basic rights to peaceful protest and free speech be
affected? Unfortunately perhaps they will. One of the most concerning parts of the bill in regard to
privacy is the fact that the government will now be able to access several sensitive documents about
citizens from top agencies such as the Public Health Agency, Canadian Border Services Agency as
well as the Canadian Border Services Agency. Privacy is changing in Canada. This is a landmark
bill and as such it is creating quite a splash in the ongoing Canadian Election.
Perhaps to Harper's disdain the bill

Impact Of The Enlightenment Of Witch Hunt
The Enlightenment of Witch Hunt and The Change of New England Society
Many people may have heard of Witch Hunt, but only a very small number of people really
understand the reason behind the comical history. The 17th century New England was in change. At
that time, the traditional way of dealing with things, the means of facing dissension and the laws and
rules of the new era caused a dramatic tension: the confrontation between judicial system and
tradition mode. In the past, people's methods of dealing with difficult things tended to appeal to
supernatural powers, which led to the truth distored or buried. The emergence of the judicial system
had greatly challenged this traditional method. By reading Escaping Salem we can feel the
transformation process.
The story of Witch Hunt in Escaping Salem is not complicated. A maid named Kate was suddenly
mad out of unknown reason and says she is bewtiched. Gradually the neighbors begin to believe that
Kate was indeed bewitched. At the same time, Kate begins to name three suspected witch names,
two of whom are tried. The villagers of the story do not play the role of fools. There is a sharp
contrast between the scholars who graduated from famous universites and the ordinary villagers. For
example, John Bishop was an educated and experienced man of God: he had graduated from Oxford
in 1632 (26). However, he and his friend who is a pastor, believe that Kate is bewitched without
doubt. This example shows the division of society at that

Thomas Clement Douglas, or 'Tommy' Douglas was a prominent Canadian politician during the

Scotland, his family moved to Canada at a very early age. Tommy Douglas spent most of his early
life in Manitoba and most of his later life in Saskatchewan. Before he got into politics, Douglas was
a Baptist preacher. He accomplished lots in his time and was even voted as the number one on the

During his time at Brandon College, he met a woman named Irma Dempsey. Whom he married in
1930. Tommy and Irma had two daughters. Shirley who was born in 1934, and Joan, who was
adopted later on. An interesting fact, famous actor Kiefer Sutherland is the son of Shirley Douglas,
making him Tommy Douglas' grandson. Tommy Douglas cared deeply for his family.
Tommy was born 1904 in Camelon, Scotland. When Tommy Douglas was 6 years old, his family
relocated to the city of Winnipeg in Canada. Unfortunately, before Tommy had left Scotland, he had
fallen and wounded his right knee which led to Osteomyelitis(an infection of the bone). Many
treatments in Scotland had to be done to help him recover, even though later in Winnipeg the
Osteomyelitis started up again. There was not much that could be done as medical care at that time
in Canada was very expensive. His family was not wealthy. The only option that seemed present to
them was to amputate his leg, until news came that a well–known medical surgeon had wanted to
operate on Tommy as long as his parents agreed to allow his medical students to observe. This event
had never left Tommy's memory. In 1918, at age 14, Tommy Douglas had dropped out of high
school to pursue a job that could earn his family more money. 1919, was the year of the Winnipeg
Strike. Tommy had witnessed the horror of the strike firsthand. He saw policemen beating strikers
with clubs, he saw law enforcement shoot workers with guns, he saw cars set on fire.

Krik Krak Book Analysis
The third chapter in the book "Krik? Krak" by Edwidge Danticat, is about a struggling family that
lives in the country side of Haiti. Its titled "A Wall of Fire Rising", which is a reference to a play
written about the famous Haitian Dutty Boukman. He was one of the leaders of the slave revolt in
Haiti in 1791 and is a token for freedom in Haitian Culture. Knowing the background of the title
gives us a great insight into the story's past and is foreshadowing the importance of freedom.
Throughout the chapter all three main characters are looking for freedom but each in a different way.
Guy wants to be free from harsh government control like everyone else in Haiti at the time. He also
wants to provide for his family and fly his bosses hot air balloon. Guys wife Lili is a stay at home
mom and all she cares about is her family. She wishes that her family was free from struggling week
to week and that her son grows up to live his dream of becoming a performer. Lili also hated Guy's
addiction to the hot air balloon. Little Guy is their son and as I said before he wants to be a
performer and was given the lead role of his school's play. He is just kid and doesn't really
understand the concept of freedom. When he is older he will realize that he won't have the freedom
to pick his dream job and he will most likely end up working at the sugar mill or even worse
unemployed. Guy is obsessed with his boss's hot air balloon that is kept fenced in near the sugar
mill. The hot air balloon

Justin Trudeau: An Example Of A Visionary Leader
Introduction
Visionary Leaders are portrayed to "inspire others to move beyond their self–interests to what is best
for the group or organization' (Taylor, Cornelius, & Colvin, 2014, p 566). These leaders tend to see
the big picture and highlight potential opportunities (Trautlein, 2013). All companies could find
value in having at least one visionary leader to help drive forward advancement, but leadership must
be cognizant of both costs and benefits. Technology requirements for businesses alone emphasize
the need for change. A perfect example of this would be the advancement of customer's preference
of using credit cards via card readers as a form of payment compared to the use of cash. If a

Effects Of Consumerism In The 1920s
The 1920s were a time of dramatic social and economic change in America. For the first time in
America's history, more people lived in cities than on farms due to industrialization. Labor laws put
in place after the Progressive Era not only raised hourly wages, but also gave workers more free
time. People had money to spend and plenty of time to spend it, which led to consumerism. This era
of consumerism took place from 1920 until 1929, Americans were challenging the traditional ways
of the past. Changes in traditional values led to tensions between old and new generations. The
tension was manifested in how society viewed women and consumerism. Women didn't play the
traditional role that they were expected to in the past which conflicted with how all of society
viewed women. The new era of consumerism and buying on credit was seen as a luxury to the
younger generation and a waste to the older one, raising even more tension.
Traditional values were only taken seriously by the elders in society, and a new generation of
women began to emerge. These women drank alcohol, smoke cigarettes, cut their hair, and even
wore revealing clothing, society called them flappers. They were also experimenting sexually,
before marriage, which at the time was considered the worst sin. The older women and men in
society deeply disapproved of what was happening. They believed that nothing should change in
society, and that these women were corrupt. The New York Times published an article on

Essay on The Four Political Parties Of Canada
The Four Political Parties of Canada
In a country as vast and as culturally diverse as Canada, many different political opinions can be
found stretched across the country. From the affluent neighbourhoods of West Vancouver to the
small fishing towns located on the east coast of Newfoundland, political opinions and affiliations
range from the left wing to the right wing. To represent these varying political views, Canada has
four official national political parties to choose from: the Liberals (who are currently in power), the
Progressive Conservatives, the New Democrats, and the
Reform Party. What is particularly interesting is that none of the latter three parties compose Her
Majesty's Official Opposition in the House ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1933, the CCF had its first major convention in Regina, Saskatchewan, and the original policy
platform first proposed by the CCF was replaced by a manifesto prepared by an LSR committee and
originally drafted by a Toronto scholar, Frank
Underhill. The Regina Manifesto, as it is known as today, put emphasis on
"economic planning, nationalisation of financial institutions, public utilities and natural resources,
security of tenure for farmers, a national labour code, socialised health services and greatly
increased economic powers for the central government." (Morton, p.12, 1986) As a supplement to
the feverish mood created by the convention, the Regina convention concluded by saying "no CCF
Government will rest content until it has eradicated capitalism and put into operation the full
programme of socialised planning which will lead to the establishment in
Canada of the Co–operative Commonwealth." (Morton, p.12, 1986). The CCF tried to garner

Why Does Lego Drive It Strategy
Question1
Business strategy drives organizational strategy and IS strategy. The organization and its
Information System should clearly support defined business goals and objectives.
Organizational strategy and IS Strategy must complement business strategy and also must
complement each other.
Business Strategy, Organizational Strategy and Information Strategy form three corners of a
triangle. If a decision is made to change one corner of the triangle, the other two corners needs to be
evaluated to ensure that balance is preserved.
Knudstorp implemented the information systems strategy triangle explained above to achieve
business goals.

Pink Flamingo Analysis
It is known in our generation and those past to have trends, rituals, and ideals which have been
passed on over the years. Many still exist nowadays with simple meaning in our everyday lives yet
we are not familiar with their origins. The well–know modernized pink flamingo had its own roots
of popularity around the world that many are not familiar with. Therefore the question is how did
the flamingo get its claim to fame. Jennifer Price provides a great explanation as she recalls and
summarizes the past history of the origin of the pink flamingo. Price analyzes the rising popularity
of the flamingo and she portrays her view on U.S. culture as being glamorous and trendy through
symbolism, numerous listing, and implementing a motif corresponding to the color pink.
The flamingo symbolized more than a bird or a plastic toy, it was a social status–a special icon.
Price utilizes the flamingo as a deeper meaning, one to evaluate the culture of America. The
flamingo is first introduced as staking claims to boldness and being pink–an eye–catching color.
Price states, "Since the 1930's, vacationing Americans had been flocking to Florida and returning
home with flamingo souvenirs." She then mentions, "...the Flamingo, had made the bird
synonymous with wealth and pizzazz." Jennifer Price already mentions that the flamingo is not just
any ordinary bird. When it "splashed into the 50's market" it brought a symbol of wealth and
fanciness. It was eye catching, it was a trend, it was an instant favorite. The flamingo was the new
thing, everyone either had or knew someone who had one. Price then reflects on the history of the
flamingo by mentioning, "No wonder that the subtropical species stood out so loudly when
Americans in temperate New England reproduced it, brightened it, and sent it wading across an
inland sea of grass." Price states again that the pink flamingo symbolized wealth and pizzazz, a
social status, a fad, a lifestyle. She knew that the uniqueness of the flamingo would attract
Americans from all over. Jennifer Price does a great job of associating it to a very glamorous and
trendy American lifestyle. Price's numerous lists show not just how glamorous the flamingo was but
the influence it had

Expansion Of Westward Expansion
The United States became a continental nation with the purchase of Louisiana from France in 1803
and the settlement of the lands beyond the Appalachian Mountains. Westward expansion fueled
conflict with Native populations and led to their forced removal. By 1820, 2 million Americans
lived west of the Appalachians, out of a total national population of 10 million. The regional cultures
that had developed along the Atlantic Coast New England, Middle Atlantic, Chesapeake, and
Carolinas were transplanted into the Old Northwest, which included; Ohio, Indiana, Illinois,
Michigan, and Wisconsin and the Old Southwest which included; Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana,
Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas. But although Americans had begun to identify themselves as a
nation, they were divided by sectional interests that deepened with rapid industrialization and the
question of slavery. Americans steadily achieved economic independence from Europe. Rural
Americans, once exclusively farmers, began manufacturing, merchants constructed regional market
economies, and state governments promoted economic development. Industrialists remade rural
villages into burgeoning factory towns such as Lowell, Massachusetts, the center of cotton textile
manufacture. However, many textiles continued to be made in individual households and small
weaving workshops. Mill owners called upon machines and factory operatives to boost production.
Government leaders and entrepreneurs campaigned for the construction of

the election of fiscal conservatism as even left wingers such as The NDP and The Green Party, who

increase in aggregate demand in the economy as the government increases spending and runs large
deficits. This is the same economic plan that would allow Justin Trudeau's father Pierre Trudeau to

British Columbia And Prairie West
INTRODUCTION
British Columbia and Prairie West experienced many changes in economic, political, and social
developments. The great depression of 1930s was more devastating on the Canadian prairies than
other regions of Canada. It impacted badly on economy, social organization, and politics of the
Prairie region. Various factors such as low wheat prices in the international market, fall of export
markets during the depression, insufficient financial investments lowered the economy of the Prairie
region. The economic and political situation worsened in the British Columbia during the
Depression as well as after the World War II. The Prairie West depended on the farming as their
main occupation while British Columbia depended on forestry, mining and fishing. After the World
War II, the Prairie West witnessed Alberta dominated by the energy industry whereas Saskatchewan
and Manitoba maintained their economy by the replacing the farm sectors with the economic
sectors. British Colombia acquired its name in energy and transportation sectors. The post–1945
period experienced differences in class, race, gender, and ethnicity. Prairie and British Columbia
underwent changes such as population variability, establishment of national social insurance
programs etc. In 2000s, the energy companies made its way towards Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Climate Change And Its Effects On The Earth
The amount of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions that are produced and released in the atmosphere
from Canada, the United States (U.S), and many other countries, is a big issue for the planet's health
since it causes climate change. Climate change has various damaging effects on the earth. It can
cause severe weather such as floods, droughts, etc. Some political parties agree that a carbon pricing
policy should be implemented, like the Green party, New Democratic Party (NDP), and the Liberals,
while other parties think that it isn't worth implementing, like the Conservatives. Implementing a
carbon policy will take a lot of time, effort, and money, and might unfairly target those who are at a
disadvantage, like low income people or those living in remote areas, making them pay more taxes.
But to avoid the harmful effects of climate change, Canada needs to implement a carbon pricing
policy–a method that has made a significant change in many countries that decided to tax or cap
carbon emissions.
In their platform, the Green Party states, "We will place a fee on carbon, and pay the funds it
generates directly to every Canadian over age 18 in the form of an annual carbon dividend." They
have set out The Carbon Fee and Dividend Plan, which puts a price on carbon that will make
polluters pay for whatever emissions they emit.

Accountability Act, which is: "An Act to ensure Canada assumes its

Women And The Role Of Women In The 1920's
Women of The 1920s
During the first World War I women were left at home to try and figure out how they were going to
care for their families. Their husband, father, and brothers were sent off to war. Many companies
around the United States were left with production needs and little to no employees to do the job. In
a time period, where women are expected to be confident and independent, they had to also realize
they had little to no power in society. They had societal rules that they must stay at home to cook,
clean, and care for the children. With the men who were prominent in their lives coming and going
from war. These factors caused the birth of a new era. This is the era where women were emerging.
Women were changing by being more independent sexually and expressing their emotions through
music, poetry, and movies.
One important theme of the women of the 1920's that connects various aspects of the women is their
sexuality. The women before those who became empowered in the 1920's would never open up
about their sexuality. The women prior to the 1920's had an image of modesty and were viewed to
be married to only one man. In 1920, the women began to express their sexual desires freely.
Singers like Bessie Smith could paint a picture and bring anything to life with just her voice. One
example by Bessie Smith "I'm Wild About That Thing". In this song, Bessie Smith sings of how she
loves her man and how happy he makes her. In her lyrics she says "Do it easy honey don't get

The Death Of Cartoon Television Tv Show
As a long time fan of classic, nostalgia–filled cartoons of the 80's, 90's and early 2000's it's sad to
say the days of Saturday–morning cartoons have been laid to rest. Or rather abruptly terminated
would be a better way to put it. The death of cartoon tv TV show blocks has been tucked away in the
box of many young children (mainly of the male demographic) right next to infrared peripherals,
and chewed up and worn action figures that accommodated them. Though unlike many dying forms
of media, the influence of Saturday–morning cartoons still continues. First things first, modern
cartoons have difficulty embodying the same type of in–depth, adult–themed, bro–mantic
adventures that older cartoons thrived off of. Take for example the original Transformers series. A
group of ultra intelligent, sentient robots escape their crippling homeworld of Cybertron in order to
seek out the much–needed (hyphenate to words that form an adjectiveresource of Energon. Upon
finding Earth, our heroes the Autobots are attacked by the evil Decepticons only to crash land and
wake up thousands of years later in the year 1984. Thus series continues on with Megatron trying to
harvest the Earth for its resources and Optimus Prime and his band of allied companions foiling his
every attempt. The next 4 four (spell out numbers ten and under) seasons present the viewers with
the overarching theme of teamwork and friendship. Granted, it did this very well and the show is

The Impact Of Teenagers In The 1950's
The 1950's was a time of great social change. The word, 'teen–ager' was recently coined and applied
to people aged thirteen to nineteen. During this decade, people's perception of youth and adolescents
drastically changed as children became more rebellious. Previous to 1950. society consisted of two
main stages of human development: children and adults. When the Baby Boom started in 1946,
producing more babies, a new era of music, attitudes, practices, and dance began to appeal to kids
that did not feel socially accepted by adults in society. This was the start of the teenage rebellion.
With increased teenager presence came more disapproval because of rebellious behaviour.
Teenagers were pitted against media, parents, and local authority. Teenagers started disobeying
parents, getting expelled from school, and fighting back against authority. Indeed, the '50s were a
time that saw upheavals towards the impact of the music, change of attitudes, new fashions, and new
dances developed children into teenagers. The impact music had on teenagers was significant.
Teenager's developed a new style of music called Rock 'n' Roll, because the lyrics reflected and
embraced their lives. High school sweethearts, fast–cars, and rebellion against authority resembled
what teenagers craved the most. Parents disliked the message and influence behind the lyrics of
Rock 'n' Roll, because they believed it caused juvenile delinquency. Parents hated the sexuality of

The History of the Canadian Political Landscape
The Canadian political landscape has a rich and complex history spanning from 'sea to sea', just as
the nation itself. Chronicles of dominance, leadership, and association by the United Kingdom,
France, and the United States has ultimately shaped the Canadian national consciousness, resulting
in the political ideologies and governance we see today. To best describe the characteristic of
Canadian politics, one can refer to 'Fragment Theory' where a colonial nation, such as Canada, is
predominantly influenced from their historic origins. However, recent immigration and economic
trends have drastically reshaped the Canadian political spectrum across provinces. The following
essay will briefly analyze the evolution of political ideologies across Canada, primarily focusing on
the conservative/ neo–liberal model.
To properly analyze the political ideologies that have played a major role in shaping Canadian
politics, one must examine a major aspect– regional politics. It is the various regions and provinces
that make up Canada, as does their political ideological landscape.
Perhaps the most influential of provinces in the development of political ideology in Canada is
Ontario. Since the formation of Canada, Ontario played a large role in the political sphere, hence
being home to the nations capital. Settled by British colonialist, and later on British loyalist from
America, Ontario was predominantly Anglo–Saxon, which favored traditional British principles
such as economic

Government Corruption In Canada
A corrupt government can be a severe impediment to the progress of a country.
The main types of corruption as defined by the UN are that of petty and grand corruption. Petty
corruption mostly entails non–elected individuals working in public regions of society such as
service receptionists or police officers. Grand corruption deals with elected officials usually in high–
power positions. An example of grand corruption could be corruption from the elected members of a
country. Canada ranked ninth with a score of 82 out of 100 on the "Corruption Perceptions Index
2016" monitored by a non–profit organization called Transparency International. In that report the
average global score out of a 100 was 43. This implies that Canada is doing well amongst the worlds
nations but can do better. Acts of corruption have a significant impact in the country experiencing it.
Therefore reducing the likelihood of corruption is of great benefit to the country of Canada.
Corruption in the Canadian Government is an issue that is relevant to the society of Canada. The
effects corruption has on Canada and the ways Canada chooses to lessen this corruption will be
further explored here.
In recent years various scandals have been brought to the attention of Canadian residents by the

Party Systems of Canada Essay
Canadian politics has a tendency to be defined by the respective political parties and the different
patterns of the party's competition. Carty et. al says, in order to make sense of Canada, you must
first make sense of its party politics. At the same time, though, Jane Jenson and her colleague Janine
Brodie have stated that the political parties are known to be the main actors when it comes to
Canadian politics. Of course, there is some sort of doubt that these political parties of Canada run a
central role when it comes to discourse. Therefore, the only way to have a better understanding of
present–day Canadian politics, it is necessary to look towards Canada's political systems of parties,
the definition and structure of it, how each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the party system is defined as the competitive interaction between political parties, it has
gotten a lot of attention from the individuals who are studying the party systems and their political
aspects. Because it is viewed in this way, party systems are very often branded as 'one–party
dominance'. They are branded as such when it comes to instances where there is one single party
that is considered 'hegemonic', and the competition between the political rival parties is little to
none. When there are two parties who have a real chance at building a government and where true
and significant competition happens only between those two particular political parties is the
definition given to 'two–party systems'. A multi–party system involves electoral support that is
divided between three or more political parties. A lot of European nations have very strong multi–
party systems.
Another way to categorize Canada's political party systems according the particular level of
competition, which highly depends on the number of parties that have realistic opportunities to
actually be in some sort of competition for political power. Competitive parties are those parties that
have popular support evenly divided amongst various political parties. As stated before, there are
many democracies in the European regions that constitute this type of party system. The contrary to

Opinion Poll Essay
Another factor to note is the influence of opinion polls. Parties that gain popular support during
campaigns may have benefited from "the bandwagon effect", (Kay, 1997). Some undecided voters
may look at opinion polls, and other polling data to decide where the political parties stand relative
to each other. The various opinion polls conducted seem to indicate that Alberta was to be an NDP
province as the campaign neared its later stages. There were several pre–election polls conducted in
the province that showed the roughly even amount of support between all three parties. However,
the Progressive Conservative's did hold an early lead at the start of the campaign, leading some to

In addition, Jim Prentice unsuccessfully attempted to convince the Albertans on the importance of
such economic blueprint. The early election call made it possible for the NDP to take an advantage
of an unpopular budget.
By calling an early election, Jim Prentice was trying to take advantage of the political environment.
The PC government were facing a declining approval rate and Jim Prentice had hoped that an early
election would provide his government with a new mandate and more years in power. Yet, voters
were tired of the PC's budget deficits and lack of vision, and scandals, which provided the NDP the
opportunity to offer voters an alternative solution, (Leeson, 2015). These events made the NDP's
appear even more attractive to voters as a new approach to governing.
Leadership
The image of Jim Prentice has been mentioned on most occasions as a reason why Albertans
withdrew their support from the long–governing PCs. The then government led by Mr. Prentice had
received poor reputation and this led to the defeat of his government. Jim Prentice was seen as an
elite that was out of touch with the common, everyday Albertan, (Sayers and Stewart, 2016). As a
result of this, many voters defected from the PC party and supported other options instead. This was
an adequate indication that the party was losing its popularity while NDP was gaining. Also, the
New Democratic Party accused the incumbent government of Jim Prentice of poor fiscal policy due
to his

American Youth in the 1960s
America has in a short time been established as a nation that symbolizes acceptance and change. It
has progressed into a country of equality that finds its foundation in its personal freedoms and the
progressive movement of technology, politics, economics, social views, ethics and so forth since the
American Revolution. It has been changing rapidly since the influx of immigrants that came here
before the Revolution. The 1950s were a happy time. I Love Lucy and Leave It To Beaver were on
television. The Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley were popular acts
in music. The youth movement of the 1960s was necessary in order for America to progress in
social, political, economic, and technological ways that could further America from the 1950s into a
new era of personal identity and freedom of expression. It was a time of fathers going to work,
mothers staying home and tending to the housework, and kids hanging out in the suburban
neighborhoods. The 1950s were the end of World War II which brought back many young

Analysis Of ' By Wendell Berry
The Recent Age, we are entering more of a modern era with globalization, technology, and freedom,
which is caught between modernism and postmodernism. In the confusion between modernism and
postmodernism, society is left to wonder what nature really is. In Remembering by Wendell Berry,
we hear the story of Andy Catlett and his struggles, when he gets his hand chopped off in a corn
picker. We are able to see how he gets passed his problem that is affecting his family as well, and he
comes to realize he needs to get passed it. Nature helps to clarify the problem and the solution,
which Catlett struggles with throughout the book. Andy Catlett's identity was lost as his hand was
separated from him. He struggle to adapt to his new hand, "His right hand had been the one with
which he reached out to the world and attached himself to it. When he lost his hand, he lost his hold"
(Berry 23). He feels disconnected from everything and all he could do is remember how things use
to be with his hand. He remembers working and being able to do anything he wanted, however now
he struggles to connect with anyone even his wife. In various parts of the book is difficult to realize
if he is remembering something or if he is discussing about his life now. Berry uses natural events to
describe attitudes and feelings, "Time and their lives flowed over them, like swift water over stones,
rubbing them together, grinding off their edges, making them fit together" (Berry 29). This blurs the

Essay about Native Sovereignty
July 11th 1990, marked the beginning date of the Oka Crisis in Quebec Canada. It lasted until
September 26th 1990 resulting in one fatality of a local police officer. The violent clash was
triggered by something as simple as a golf course extension and as complicated as native burial
traditions. It had drawn world attention, catapulting native land rights into the mix. The Oka Crisis
is just one of many conflicts between the Aboriginals and the Canadian government. A major issue
that has been of much debate in the 20th century has been Native sovereignty. The demand sounds
simple, allow Aboriginals of Canada to govern themselves; however, coexisting with the Canadian
government makes this idea extremely complicated. Roger Townshend states ... Show more content

Townshend describes how Aboriginals view the Canadian government as a foreign government.
Furthermore, Townshend disputes the process of assimilation, integrating Aboriginals to the modern
Canadian society. The solution is to create a third tier government that would work in cohesion with
the Federal and Provincial levels. Different levels of government and the "...sharing of jurisdictional
powers between government institutions is already part of the essence of the Canadian state,"
(Townshend 39). If Canada is able to increase globalization and trade agreements on an international
level, than Canada should not be so unwilling to share jurisdiction with an Aboriginal government.
Thomas Flanagan disapproves the idea of Native sovereignty ever coexisting with Canadian
sovereignty. Flanagan identifies the flaws in Townshend's arguments referring to them as a
theoretical approach and not a practical approach. It is true that the sharing of jurisdictional power is
the essence of the Canadian state but this cannot apply to the Aboriginals of Canada. One reason a
third level of government cannot work in Canada is "In the 10 provinces, Canada has over six
hundred Indian bands living on more than 2200 reserves, plus hundreds of thousands of Métis and
non–status Indians who do not possess reserves," (Flanagan 44). Flanagan draws the fact that "No

The Election Day Fast Approaches

  • 1. The Election Day Fast Approaches In a democratic society, it is vital for citizens to participate in the electoral process and chose their desired leader. As Election Day fast approaches, many Canadians are faced with the challenge of who to vote for and in order to have a meaningful voice, it is essential for Canadians to acquire an adequate understanding of the major parties' platforms. Among the major parties are Steven Harper's Conservative Party, Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party and Tom Mulcair's New Democratic Party and each have a unique plan to help Canada prosper. In my selected article, Mark Kennedy highlights key issues in each party's platform including taxation, balancing the budget and views on the niqab. From the competing platforms, it is evident that the Liberals have a stronger plan than their fellow parties. One major area of focus in this election is taxation and each party has a unique way to lower taxes for Canadians. The Conservative's are assuring lower taxes for Canadians while also providing tax breaks such as "universal child care benefits, income splitting for families, higher contribution limits for Tax–free Savings Accounts, and a home renovation tax credit" (Kennedy). Although the assistance these tax breaks offer some Canadians is undeniable, the author of the article fails to mention the costs at which these benefits are received. For instance, the income splitting tax benefit being implanted by the Conservatives is predicted to cost "2.2 billion dollars this year while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Canada Political Parties My Opinion On Voting Canadian political parties The NDP in my opinion, is the best party to vote for. "I know, New Democrats know, that is is possible to grow our economy while protecting our environment," (Tom Mulcair–speech at iVote May 2015.) The following reasons why I support the New Democratic Party are. Their belief of not leaving anyone behind, the way they plan to grow the economy and how they will help preserve the environment. Firstly, The NDP's main goal, –To build a better Canada, where no one is left behind. Meaning they will support the less fortunate Canadians and help elevate them into a better social class. They will support the lower class by taxing the richer population, closing the income gap. This approach I suspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The NDP will combat this by investing in the production of clean tech. By 2020, the global market for Cleantech is estimated to be over 3–trillion. Another plan the NDP have is to ensure the construction of future national parks, protecting the ecosystems and create new jobs at the same time. They want to increase the amount of emissions tax corporations pay as well as decrease the limit they already have. This is a tremendous way to help boost the economy and protect the environment. Lastly, The New Democratic Party will fight for what made Canada such a great place to live... the Environment; that we took for granted for the last decade exploiting and exhausting the natural resources we are fortunate to have in Canada. • 5. Essay on Tommy Douglas Tommy Douglas Tommy Douglas is one of the most successful politicians Canadians have ever seen. He implemented many social policies and programs in Saskatchewan that were later adopted throughout Canada. Most of his programs continue today and are an integral part of Canadian society. His greatest achievement was his implementation of Medicare in Saskatchewan. Douglas never intended to be a politician but his concern for people drove him to be one. Thomas Douglas was born in Falkirk, Scotland on October 20, 1904. Tommy moved to Winnipeg in 1911 along with his mother and sister to meet his father who had migrated one year earlier. (5Wong 1). In 1935 Douglas ran federally for the CCF and won a seat representing the Weyburn district. The CCF won only 5 seats in the Federal election in 1935. Douglas made a name for himself in the House of Commons as an excellent speaker. He found changes came slowly at the federal level of government. He went on to serve two terms in Federal politics. In 1942, while still sitting as an Member of Parliament Tommy Douglas became the leader of the Saskatchewan CCF party. The CCF party won the provincial election in 1944. Douglas became the first leader of a socialist government in North America. Tommy vowed to spend 70% of government money on social programs and his slogan was "Humanity First". Tommy Douglas and the CCF were in power in Saskatchewan for 17 years. During this time Douglas held true to his word and implemented countless social policies and changes. Douglas gave bargaining powers to unions. The CCF paid off Saskatchewan's debt, paved roads, and provided electricity and sewage. The Crown corporations were established during Douglas's reign. • 7. Why Social Capitol Is Important For The United States Of... It is important to effectively integrate immigrants, and get them participating in Canadian political affairs. This will help Canadian society in the long term as it allows for a clearer understanding on how it is that their marginalized immigrant populous desires to be represented. Canada's diverse population has various needs, and ethnic minorities are amalgamated as outliers as they continue to experience various forms of persistent inequality in the shape of social exclusion (and more specifically, social capitol). The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate why social capitol is important to immigrants, identify immigrant voting patterns in accumulation to how social capitol influences them, in addition to proposing a solution that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the ways in which social capitol seeks to incorporate immigrants into the fold of Canadian politics is through the pursuit of education and the comprehension of language (Nakhaie, 2). Education and language work unanimously in boosting immigrant participation levels in politics. It is through a greater knowledge base in education, paired with a comprehension in language that allows immigrants to acquire information and understand the mechanisms that relate to political participation (Nakhaie, 2). Basically, as an immigrant's education increases the language barrier depletes this allows for an immigrant to contribute and participate to a greater extent in politics because of the diminishing language barrier (Nakhaie, 1). The development of effective and stable government depends significantly upon the alignment that people have in regards to the political process (Henderson, 2). This can be seen expressed in the people through another form of social capitol being the amount of trust that they have in the political system (Nakhaie, 3). The level of tolerance exercised, and norms of political responsibility that they feel they implement in order to ensure political co–operation and action social cohesion is critical for societies to prosper economically through means such as education and for development to be sustainable (Henderson, 2). • 9. Thomas Clement Douglas From humble beginnings, migrating to Winnipeg from Scotland with his family in 1919, Thomas Clement Douglas rose to become one of Canada's most revered politicians. Initially as a Baptist Minister in Weyburn, Saskatchewan seeing the sick and the old suffer greatly under capitalism, particularly during the Great Depression, Douglas wanted to do more for them than he felt he could as a pastor. The CBC reflects on this issue with Douglas' own comments, saying of those times "Again and again we would leave some sitting in the hospital waiting room while we went out and borrowed or begged a few dollars here and there till wed make up enough to pay the bill ... (Lovick and Marshall) Regardless of his significant social justice achievements and ongoing legacy, Douglas still has his detractors, with accusations of his support for eugenics ("the selection of desired heritable characteristics in order to improve future generations, typically in reference to humans" (Wilson)) and his opposition to capitalism (The Star ... • 11. Essay Canada´s New Democratic Party Did you know that the current leader of the New Democratic Party used to be a Liberal? Thomas Mulcair became the leader of the New Democratic Party after the death of Jack Layton. The New Democratic Party (NDP) is one of the major federal political parties in Canada. The NDP was formed in 1961 as the result of the merger of two different parties. There are numerous reasons why the people of Canada should vote for the NDP. Citizens of Canada should vote for the New Democratic Party because if elected, they promise to improve the environmental situation, provide better health care for Canadians, and improve the economy in Canada. Bulk fresh water exports from Canada will be eliminated to keep the fresh water plentiful in Canada, and keep it from depleting rapidly. If the New Democratic Party gains power, they are going to make the health care in Canada better for citizens. Health care is definitely a very important factor in keeping everyone in Canada happy and healthy. Without healthcare, we will get sick more frequently, and not going to regular checkups will make diseases more likely to affect us negatively. The NDP is proposing to end the fees for ambulance services. This will make people more likely to call an ambulance instead of taking a chance of driving themselves. This could save lives because ambulances are much faster than driving yourself in a car because people are required by law to move out of the way of an incoming ambulance on the road. The NDP is saying to give seniors the support they need to live in their own homes instead of being forced to move to an old age home when they get to old to care for themselves or when loved ones and family can no longer care for them. If they get support in their homes, they will not need to go through the stress of moving to a different environment in their late age. If they reduce their stress to as little as possible, they will be more prone to a longer life span. • 13. Privacy In Canada Essay As a Canadian in today's society we believe we have a certain set of inalienable rights. One of those rights that seem to be at the forefront of the 2015 Canadian election is privacy. As Dr. Kent Roach and Dr. Craig Forcese state, "privacy is, in our society, the right to be left alone by the state." The Conservative upbringing of Bill C–51 challenges the ideology around our right to be private, as well as our government's role in the protection of Canada from threats of terrorism. The Harper government essentially, will increase their role in national security to keep a constant watchful eye on potentially harmful situations and end them before anyone is hurt or killed. If passed, the bill would allow the government to arrest anyone suspected of terrorism without that person even committing a crime. Furthermore, the language used in the bill is extremely vague and makes one question, where the line will be drawn? Will our basic rights to peaceful protest and free speech be affected? Unfortunately perhaps they will. One of the most concerning parts of the bill in regard to privacy is the fact that the government will now be able to access several sensitive documents about citizens from top agencies such as the Public Health Agency, Canadian Border Services Agency as well as the Canadian Border Services Agency. Privacy is changing in Canada. This is a landmark bill and as such it is creating quite a splash in the ongoing Canadian Election. Perhaps to Harper's disdain the bill ... • 17. Impact Of The Enlightenment Of Witch Hunt The Enlightenment of Witch Hunt and The Change of New England Society Many people may have heard of Witch Hunt, but only a very small number of people really understand the reason behind the comical history. The 17th century New England was in change. At that time, the traditional way of dealing with things, the means of facing dissension and the laws and rules of the new era caused a dramatic tension: the confrontation between judicial system and tradition mode. In the past, people's methods of dealing with difficult things tended to appeal to supernatural powers, which led to the truth distored or buried. The emergence of the judicial system had greatly challenged this traditional method. By reading Escaping Salem we can feel the transformation process. The story of Witch Hunt in Escaping Salem is not complicated. A maid named Kate was suddenly mad out of unknown reason and says she is bewtiched. Gradually the neighbors begin to believe that Kate was indeed bewitched. At the same time, Kate begins to name three suspected witch names, two of whom are tried. The villagers of the story do not play the role of fools. There is a sharp contrast between the scholars who graduated from famous universites and the ordinary villagers. For example, John Bishop was an educated and experienced man of God: he had graduated from Oxford in 1632 (26). However, he and his friend who is a pastor, believe that Kate is bewitched without doubt. This example shows the division of society at that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thomas Clement Douglas 's The Greatest Canadian Thomas Clement Douglas, or 'Tommy' Douglas was a prominent Canadian politician during the 1900s, as both a premier and a minister of health in the House of Commons. Though he was born in Scotland, his family moved to Canada at a very early age. Tommy Douglas spent most of his early life in Manitoba and most of his later life in Saskatchewan. Before he got into politics, Douglas was a Baptist preacher. He accomplished lots in his time and was even voted as the number one on the CBC television show "the Greatest Canadian". Tommy and Irma had two daughters. Shirley who was born in 1934, and Joan, who was adopted later on. An interesting fact, famous actor Kiefer Sutherland is the son of Shirley Douglas, making him Tommy Douglas' grandson. Tommy Douglas cared deeply for his family. Tommy was born 1904 in Camelon, Scotland. When Tommy Douglas was 6 years old, his family relocated to the city of Winnipeg in Canada. Unfortunately, before Tommy had left Scotland, he had fallen and wounded his right knee which led to Osteomyelitis(an infection of the bone). Many treatments in Scotland had to be done to help him recover, even though later in Winnipeg the Osteomyelitis started up again. There was not much that could be done as medical care at that time in Canada was very expensive. His family was not wealthy. • 23. Krik Krak Book Analysis The third chapter in the book "Krik? Krak" by Edwidge Danticat, is about a struggling family that lives in the country side of Haiti. Its titled "A Wall of Fire Rising", which is a reference to a play written about the famous Haitian Dutty Boukman. He was one of the leaders of the slave revolt in Haiti in 1791 and is a token for freedom in Haitian Culture. Knowing the background of the title gives us a great insight into the story's past and is foreshadowing the importance of freedom. Throughout the chapter all three main characters are looking for freedom but each in a different way. Guy wants to be free from harsh government control like everyone else in Haiti at the time. He also wants to provide for his family and fly his bosses hot air balloon. Guys wife Lili is a stay at home mom and all she cares about is her family. She wishes that her family was free from struggling week to week and that her son grows up to live his dream of becoming a performer. Lili also hated Guy's addiction to the hot air balloon. Little Guy is their son and as I said before he wants to be a performer and was given the lead role of his school's play. He is just kid and doesn't really understand the concept of freedom. When he is older he will realize that he won't have the freedom to pick his dream job and he will most likely end up working at the sugar mill or even worse unemployed. Guy is obsessed with his boss's hot air balloon that is kept fenced in near the sugar mill. The hot air balloon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the years there have been various theories and models regarding nursing and healthcare. Doctor Larry Dossey (1982) identified three "Eras" of healthcare as the structure for healthcare in the Western world. Two of which are the Mechanical Model also known as Era I, and the Body/Mind Model known as Era II. Era I began in the 1860's, the model reflected the view that disease was purely physical in nature and that physical interventions such as medications, surgical procedures, or bloodletting were required to promote healing. • 37. Effects Of Consumerism In The 1920s The 1920s were a time of dramatic social and economic change in America. For the first time in America's history, more people lived in cities than on farms due to industrialization. Labor laws put in place after the Progressive Era not only raised hourly wages, but also gave workers more free time. People had money to spend and plenty of time to spend it, which led to consumerism. This era of consumerism took place from 1920 until 1929, Americans were challenging the traditional ways of the past. Changes in traditional values led to tensions between old and new generations. The tension was manifested in how society viewed women and consumerism. Women didn't play the traditional role that they were expected to in the past which conflicted with how all of society viewed women. The new era of consumerism and buying on credit was seen as a luxury to the younger generation and a waste to the older one, raising even more tension. Traditional values were only taken seriously by the elders in society, and a new generation of women began to emerge. These women drank alcohol, smoke cigarettes, cut their hair, and even wore revealing clothing, society called them flappers. They were also experimenting sexually, before marriage, which at the time was considered the worst sin. The older women and men in society deeply disapproved of what was happening. They believed that nothing should change in society, and that these women were corrupt. The New York Times published an article on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many still exist nowadays with simple meaning in our everyday lives yet we are not familiar with their origins. The well–know modernized pink flamingo had its own roots of popularity around the world that many are not familiar with. Therefore the question is how did the flamingo get its claim to fame. Jennifer Price provides a great explanation as she recalls and summarizes the past history of the origin of the pink flamingo. Price analyzes the rising popularity of the flamingo and she portrays her view on U.S. culture as being glamorous and trendy through symbolism, numerous listing, and implementing a motif corresponding to the color pink. The flamingo symbolized more than a bird or a plastic toy, it was a social status–a special icon. Price utilizes the flamingo as a deeper meaning, one to evaluate the culture of America. The flamingo is first introduced as staking claims to boldness and being pink–an eye–catching color. Price states, "Since the 1930's, vacationing Americans had been flocking to Florida and returning home with flamingo souvenirs." She then mentions, "...the Flamingo, had made the bird synonymous with wealth and pizzazz." Jennifer Price already mentions that the flamingo is not just any ordinary bird. When it "splashed into the 50's market" it brought a symbol of wealth and fanciness. It was eye catching, it was a trend, it was an instant favorite. The flamingo was the new thing, everyone either had or knew someone who had one. Price then reflects on the history of the flamingo by mentioning, "No wonder that the subtropical species stood out so loudly when Americans in temperate New England reproduced it, brightened it, and sent it wading across an inland sea of grass." Price states again that the pink flamingo symbolized wealth and pizzazz, a social status, a fad, a lifestyle. She knew that the uniqueness of the flamingo would attract Americans from all over. Jennifer Price does a great job of associating it to a very glamorous and trendy American lifestyle. Price's numerous lists show not just how glamorous the flamingo was but the influence it had ... Americans steadily achieved economic independence from Europe. Rural Americans, once exclusively farmers, began manufacturing, merchants constructed regional market economies, and state governments promoted economic development. Industrialists remade rural villages into burgeoning factory towns such as Lowell, Massachusetts, the center of cotton textile manufacture. Climate Change And Its Effects On The Earth The amount of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions that are produced and released in the atmosphere from Canada, the United States (U.S), and many other countries, is a big issue for the planet's health since it causes climate change. Climate change has various damaging effects on the earth. It can cause severe weather such as floods, droughts, etc. Some political parties agree that a carbon pricing policy should be implemented, like the Green party, New Democratic Party (NDP), and the Liberals, while other parties think that it isn't worth implementing, like the Conservatives. Implementing a carbon policy will take a lot of time, effort, and money, and might unfairly target those who are at a disadvantage, like low income people or those living in remote areas, making them pay more taxes. But to avoid the harmful effects of climate change, Canada needs to implement a carbon pricing policy–a method that has made a significant change in many countries that decided to tax or cap carbon emissions. In their platform, the Green Party states, "We will place a fee on carbon, and pay the funds it generates directly to every Canadian over age 18 in the form of an annual carbon dividend." They have set out The Carbon Fee and Dividend Plan, which puts a price on carbon that will make polluters pay for whatever emissions they emit. • 56. Women And The Role Of Women In The 1920's Women of The 1920s During the first World War I women were left at home to try and figure out how they were going to care for their families. Their husband, father, and brothers were sent off to war. Many companies around the United States were left with production needs and little to no employees to do the job. In a time period, where women are expected to be confident and independent, they had to also realize they had little to no power in society. They had societal rules that they must stay at home to cook, clean, and care for the children. With the men who were prominent in their lives coming and going from war. These factors caused the birth of a new era. This is the era where women were emerging. Women were changing by being more independent sexually and expressing their emotions through music, poetry, and movies. One important theme of the women of the 1920's that connects various aspects of the women is their sexuality. The women before those who became empowered in the 1920's would never open up about their sexuality. The women prior to the 1920's had an image of modesty and were viewed to be married to only one man. In 1920, the women began to express their sexual desires freely. Singers like Bessie Smith could paint a picture and bring anything to life with just her voice. One example by Bessie Smith "I'm Wild About That Thing". During this decade, people's perception of youth and adolescents drastically changed as children became more rebellious. Previous to 1950. society consisted of two main stages of human development: children and adults. When the Baby Boom started in 1946, producing more babies, a new era of music, attitudes, practices, and dance began to appeal to kids that did not feel socially accepted by adults in society. This was the start of the teenage rebellion. With increased teenager presence came more disapproval because of rebellious behaviour. Teenagers were pitted against media, parents, and local authority. Teenagers started disobeying parents, getting expelled from school, and fighting back against authority. Indeed, the '50s were a time that saw upheavals towards the impact of the music, change of attitudes, new fashions, and new dances developed children into teenagers. • 62. The History of the Canadian Political Landscape The Canadian political landscape has a rich and complex history spanning from 'sea to sea', just as the nation itself. Chronicles of dominance, leadership, and association by the United Kingdom, France, and the United States has ultimately shaped the Canadian national consciousness, resulting in the political ideologies and governance we see today. To best describe the characteristic of Canadian politics, one can refer to 'Fragment Theory' where a colonial nation, such as Canada, is predominantly influenced from their historic origins. However, recent immigration and economic trends have drastically reshaped the Canadian political spectrum across provinces. The following essay will briefly analyze the evolution of political ideologies across Canada, primarily focusing on the conservative/ neo–liberal model. To properly analyze the political ideologies that have played a major role in shaping Canadian politics, one must examine a major aspect– regional politics. It is the various regions and provinces that make up Canada, as does their political ideological landscape. Perhaps the most influential of provinces in the development of political ideology in Canada is Ontario. Since the formation of Canada, Ontario played a large role in the political sphere, hence being home to the nations capital. Settled by British colonialist, and later on British loyalist from America, Ontario was predominantly Anglo–Saxon, which favored traditional British principles such as economic ... • 68. Party Systems of Canada Essay Canadian politics has a tendency to be defined by the respective political parties and the different patterns of the party's competition. Carty et. al says, in order to make sense of Canada, you must first make sense of its party politics. At the same time, though, Jane Jenson and her colleague Janine Brodie have stated that the political parties are known to be the main actors when it comes to Canadian politics. Of course, there is some sort of doubt that these political parties of Canada run a central role when it comes to discourse. Therefore, the only way to have a better understanding of present–day Canadian politics, it is necessary to look towards Canada's political systems of parties, the definition and structure of it, how each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because the party system is defined as the competitive interaction between political parties, it has gotten a lot of attention from the individuals who are studying the party systems and their political aspects. Because it is viewed in this way, party systems are very often branded as 'one–party dominance'. They are branded as such when it comes to instances where there is one single party that is considered 'hegemonic', and the competition between the political rival parties is little to none. When there are two parties who have a real chance at building a government and where true and significant competition happens only between those two particular political parties is the definition given to 'two–party systems'. A multi–party system involves electoral support that is divided between three or more political parties. A lot of European nations have very strong multi– party systems. Another way to categorize Canada's political party systems according the particular level of competition, which highly depends on the number of parties that have realistic opportunities to actually be in some sort of competition for political power. Competitive parties are those parties that have popular support evenly divided amongst various political parties. As stated before, there are many democracies in the European regions that constitute this type of party system. The contrary to this party ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Opinion Poll Essay Another factor to note is the influence of opinion polls. Parties that gain popular support during campaigns may have benefited from "the bandwagon effect", (Kay, 1997). Some undecided voters may look at opinion polls, and other polling data to decide where the political parties stand relative to each other. The various opinion polls conducted seem to indicate that Alberta was to be an NDP province as the campaign neared its later stages. There were several pre–election polls conducted in the province that showed the roughly even amount of support between all three parties. However, the Progressive Conservative's did hold an early lead at the start of the campaign, leading some to believe that they would be re–elected. As the campaign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, Jim Prentice unsuccessfully attempted to convince the Albertans on the importance of such economic blueprint. The early election call made it possible for the NDP to take an advantage of an unpopular budget. By calling an early election, Jim Prentice was trying to take advantage of the political environment. The PC government were facing a declining approval rate and Jim Prentice had hoped that an early election would provide his government with a new mandate and more years in power. Yet, voters were tired of the PC's budget deficits and lack of vision, and scandals, which provided the NDP the opportunity to offer voters an alternative solution, (Leeson, 2015). These events made the NDP's appear even more attractive to voters as a new approach to governing. Leadership The image of Jim Prentice has been mentioned on most occasions as a reason why Albertans withdrew their support from the long–governing PCs. The then government led by Mr. Prentice had received poor reputation and this led to the defeat of his government. Jim Prentice was seen as an elite that was out of touch with the common, everyday Albertan, (Sayers and Stewart, 2016). As a result of this, many voters defected from the PC party and supported other options instead. This was an adequate indication that the party was losing its popularity while NDP was gaining. Also, the New Democratic Party accused the incumbent government of Jim Prentice of poor fiscal policy due to his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has progressed into a country of equality that finds its foundation in its personal freedoms and the progressive movement of technology, politics, economics, social views, ethics and so forth since the American Revolution. It has been changing rapidly since the influx of immigrants that came here before the Revolution. The 1950s were a happy time. I Love Lucy and Leave It To Beaver were on television. The Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley were popular acts in music. • 76. Analysis Of ' By Wendell Berry The Recent Age, we are entering more of a modern era with globalization, technology, and freedom, which is caught between modernism and postmodernism. In the confusion between modernism and postmodernism, society is left to wonder what nature really is. In Remembering by Wendell Berry, we hear the story of Andy Catlett and his struggles, when he gets his hand chopped off in a corn picker. We are able to see how he gets passed his problem that is affecting his family as well, and he comes to realize he needs to get passed it. Nature helps to clarify the problem and the solution, which Catlett struggles with throughout the book. Andy Catlett's identity was lost as his hand was separated from him. He struggle to adapt to his new hand, "His right hand had been the one with which he reached out to the world and attached himself to it. When he lost his hand, he lost his hold" (Berry 23). He feels disconnected from everything and all he could do is remember how things use to be with his hand. He remembers working and being able to do anything he wanted, however now he struggles to connect with anyone even his wife. In various parts of the book is difficult to realize if he is remembering something or if he is discussing about his life now. Berry uses natural events to describe attitudes and feelings, "Time and their lives flowed over them, like swift water over stones, rubbing them together, grinding off their edges, making them fit together" (Berry 29). This blurs the boundaries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Essay about Native Sovereignty July 11th 1990, marked the beginning date of the Oka Crisis in Quebec Canada. It lasted until September 26th 1990 resulting in one fatality of a local police officer. The violent clash was triggered by something as simple as a golf course extension and as complicated as native burial traditions. It had drawn world attention, catapulting native land rights into the mix. The Oka Crisis is just one of many conflicts between the Aboriginals and the Canadian government. A major issue that has been of much debate in the 20th century has been Native sovereignty. The demand sounds simple, allow Aboriginals of Canada to govern themselves; however, coexisting with the Canadian government makes this idea extremely complicated. Roger Townshend states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Townshend describes how Aboriginals view the Canadian government as a foreign government. Furthermore, Townshend disputes the process of assimilation, integrating Aboriginals to the modern Canadian society. The solution is to create a third tier government that would work in cohesion with the Federal and Provincial levels. Different levels of government and the "...sharing of jurisdictional powers between government institutions is already part of the essence of the Canadian state," (Townshend 39). If Canada is able to increase globalization and trade agreements on an international level, than Canada should not be so unwilling to share jurisdiction with an Aboriginal government. Thomas Flanagan disapproves the idea of Native sovereignty ever coexisting with Canadian sovereignty. Flanagan identifies the flaws in Townshend's arguments referring to them as a theoretical approach and not a practical approach. It is true that the sharing of jurisdictional power is the essence of the Canadian state but this cannot apply to the Aboriginals of Canada. One reason a third level of government cannot work in Canada is "In the 10 provinces, Canada has over six hundred Indian bands living on more than 2200 reserves, plus hundreds of thousands of Métis and non–status Indians who do not possess reserves," (Flanagan 44). Flanagan draws the fact that "No one has proposed a workable mechanism by which this far–flung archipelago could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
