1. EVALUATION QUESTION FOUR
How did you use new media
technologies in the
construction, research, planning and
evaluation stages of your product?
2. • Before I even began to research and plan
my product I had to make a decision on
which online blog I would use present
my research for A2 media. In As media I
used a blogging site connected to ‘Its
Learning VLE’ I found this site simple to
navigate but still quite visually pleasing
although I did want to look for another
blog with a better layout. I looked at
other blogs which were on offer for me
to use such as, WordPress which seemed
quite difficult to use, I also looked at
blog.com until I decided that I would use
blogger a blogging site run by Google.
One of the few negatives of using
blogger is that when you post the
newest post it is shown the top of your
blog so it is not in chronological order.
3. • I began the process of creating a music video by
researching my genre; pop-rock in relation to target
audience. I researched music videos which included
similarities in style and genre to the music video I would
produce. I used search engines such as YouTube and
Vimeo to watch current music videos for inspiration and
to identify particular conventions of pop-rock music
videos and also female artists. I also used Google in my
research process to find images to create
moodboards, researching excising album covers and
posters to promote current artists. I then uploaded all of
my research to my blog which was presented on blogger.
4. • There was also various ways in which I could choose to
present my research which I had found online on
Google and YouTube. I used wordle, a visual
representation for text data. I used this in the early
stages of my research to put together some typical
conventions of pop music videos. I used another site
called SlideShare to present some of my research on
conventions of music videos, this web 2.0 allows you
to upload PowerPoint presentations which will be then
available for anyone to view. SlideShare is something
that I am already familiar with from AS Media.
5. • When the process of actually starting to produce
and film the music video started I had to consider
which type of technology I would use to film the
music video. When filming I used the DSLR camera,
sometimes the filming would require two cameras
so I could change the type of shot continuously to
the beat of the track. Planning the shots was
particularly important for before I started to film my
music video so I new exactly how I was going to
instruct Katie to film myself as the artist. The quality
of the footage for my music video is much better at
A2 than it was at AS as we didn't have the
opportunity to use the DSLR cameras last year. I
used these cameras as they are much better quality.
I also used my IPhone whilst I was filming my shots
so I could play the music from the devise to make lip
syncing easier.
6. • When creating my digi-pak and poster to promote my
artists new album i was originally going to take stills
shots using the DSLR cameras when filming but also
take screen shots of my footage on the Apple Macs. I
decided that the screenshots were not very good
quality when I began editing them on software such as
adobe Photoshop elements 10 which i found quite
difficult to use as it was a programme that i was not
familiar with as I didn't have to use software like this at
AS. I then used my IPhone to take additional shots
which were much better quality.
7. • When it actually came to editing my footage I used
IMovie, a programme which is on the Apple Mac
computers. Using IMovie meant there was many
different transactions and effects that I could choose
from to edit my clips together.
i used Imovie previously in
AS media but the editing
process at A2 proved much
more challenging than at As.
• During the process of research, planning, filming and
editing my final product I have used many digital
technologies which have helped me to successfully
create my music video.
