2. MY SKILLS
My discipline is drama.
One of my main skills in this area is confidence I
think confidence comes the more experience
you have with performing live to an audience,
as I haven't always had this skill and it didn't
just come naturally to me.
3. Another thing in my skill set is being able to act in many
different styles.
To me this is one of the most important factors of being a
successful actor as theatre is very diverse. There are so
many different directors who work in different ways
and follow the work off different practitioners for
example, the work of Brecht, Stanislavski and Artaud
are all practitioners. If you use there techniques as an
actor each performance would be very different as the
styles of acting are all unique
It is also important that you have the knowledge of
different creative practitioners, which I think I do.
4. Another area of acting which is in my skill set is
musical theatre style performance and acting.
Musical theatre acting requires a lot of energy and
is very melodramatic which differs a lot to the
other styles of acting which I perform. You also
have to be overly enthusiastic about performing.
I have this skill because i have had a lot of
experience in this style of acting and previously
performed in different musicals and musical
theatre show cases.
5. Another thing in my skill set is the ability to develop
characters, this can sometimes be difficult
because you have to find exercises and rehearsal
techniques to help you throughout this process. I
can identify character traits and apply them to
performance. I mainly develop characters by
creating improvisations that help me find out
unknown information about roles that I am
playing and set myself objectives for each scene.
6. Improving my skill set
There are certain things that i want to improve within my skills set.
Although I feel comfortable with the performance and practical side of
drama, I feel that I want to improve the academic side of my discipline by
this I mean I want to learn how to review productions properly, analyse
script and talk about theory.
I also feel like I want to experience more live theatre and go and watch more
performances as this will improve my skill set as I will gain more
inspiration and knowledge of performance.
I also feel like I struggle sometimes with group work as sometimes I hold back
my opinions and suggestions as I work best on my own working on things
like monologues. I will hopefully improve this skill during my time at
university.
