1. This film poster is of neo noir film “Simple Men”,
directed by Hal Hartley in 1992. Initially when I
was doing research into film posters and came
across this one I wasn’t impressed. I didn’t feel
that this poster was particularly exciting or
appealing for an audience. I felt it was rather plain
however I then went on to notice that I enjoyed
many components of it rather than as a collective.
One of the main features that
I particularly like about the
poster is the use of the red,
Hollywood glamour style lips.
I think they are extremely
iconic in the eyes of noir and
neo noir films. It makes it
obvious to an audience what
type of film they are going to
see. Furthermore I love that
this female character is so
important that she features in
the middle centre of the
poster. I really enjoy when
women hold an important
role in a film because as a
female myself I find their
characters to be more
relatable to me.
Another element of this
film that I like is the large
‘simple’ text for the title. I
think the white on top of
black is extremely
effective and really
stands out for any
audience seeing this
poster perhaps at a bus
stop.
Thus when it comes to creating a film poster
for my own film I think I will try to incorporate
some elements that direct the audiences’
attention to our femme fetale, Rosette. I will
hopefully use a more fitting image that
requires more editing however because I think
that gives a far more professional look and I
want our poster to be of a high quality.
Finally I don’t like that
this film poster has blue
font at the bottom of the
page for the credit bloc
etc. I think its harder to
read and also think that
white would have been a
