Convenience
• Rent, utilities and meals are all

studying, having fun on campus
or even sleeping! Get a campus
job, or find one in the community
to make some extra cash

Remember
• The housing agreement is a
contract that holds a student to a
full academic year commitment.
If a student decides not to/cannot
continue for spring, the
cancellation fee is substantial.
• All residents are required to have
a meal plan.
• The $50 application fee is non-
refundable, but the $50
reservation fee will be applied to
your housing bill.
• While living on your own is a step
toward independence, there are
rules that residential students
need to follow to be successful.
Read the community living guide
and code of conduct for more
policy information.
• We want our students to be
successful and will provide some
life skills based programming
and engagement activities to
meet that goal.
Get in the habit of checking your student email!
Student Employment Opportunities
College can be expensive! Why
not defray some of those costs by
applying to work for housing when
the time is right?
Housing hires over 20 student
employees each year to work to
support our objectives in helping
residential students.
Students are eligible to work for
housing after living in housing for
one semester.

Keeping Financial Aid Eligibility
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

– Qualitative (GPA)
• Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
• A 2.0 GPA is a “C” average
– Quantitative (Completion Rate)
• Must complete a minimum of 67% of all hours attempted
• Completion rate is calculated by dividing the number of hours earned
by the number of hours attempted.
– Example:
• Student registered for 12 hours and successfully completed 9 hours
• 9 divided by 12 is 0.75
• Completion rate is 75%
• Must satisfy both Qualitative and Quantitative requirements to remain
in good Financial Aid standing
Losing Financial Aid Eligibility
Failure to maintain one or both requirements of SAP can result in the loss of
Financial Aid eligibility.
The following notifications will be sent to the student’s CatMail:
• First Semester SAP is not met – Financial Aid Warning
• If SAP is not met by the end of the Second Semester – Financial Aid Suspension
Students who are placed on Financial Aid Suspension have the right to
appeal to have aid reinstated.
– Complete the Letter of Appeal Form
– Submit the Letter of Appeal Form with supporting documentation
– If Appeal is approved:
• Student Aid is reinstated under the Academic Plan
• Student remains on Academic Plan until SAP levels are reached
• If conditions of the Academic Plan are not met, Aid is lost
– If Student Aid is lost while on the Academic Plan, there is no appeal.
Financial Aid Disbursement
Tuition, Fees, and any authorized charges are deducted from your Award amount.
What is left is known as “Excess Aid” and will be disbursed to your Higher One
account.
Disbursement of LOAN FUNDS to FIRST-TIME BORROWERS
Students who are first-time federal loan recipients must be enrolled and attending
classes for at least 30 days before Excess Aid from loan funds can be
disbursed; therefore, those funds will be disbursed the week after the thirty-day
mark is reached.
Students are responsible for paying the balance of all tuition, fees, and charges if
Aid is not sufficient to cover the total amount owed.
*Due to processing time, funds will not be available for immediate disbursement.
For example, Aid that is cleared on Tuesday of this week will not be disbursed until
Thursday of next week.
Disbursements begin on the third
Thursday of each semester and
continue until all Excess Aid is paid*

DISABILITY SERVICES
A broad term that includes, but is not limited to:
• ADHD
• Learning Disability
• Visual Impairment
• Hearing Impairment
• Physical Disability
• Chronic Medical Conditions
Disability Services works with students whose circumstances and
conditions qualify them for accommodations, to ensure that the
students receive the accommodations for which they are entitled.
Accommodations
• are designed to “level the playing field”
• are not designed to ensure success
ACCOMMODATIONS
Accommodations in college are very different from high school/k12
 Colleges determine accommodations based on Americans with Disabilities (ADA)
legislation.
 K12 systems determine accommodations based on Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act (IDEA) legislation.
 Documentation is required in order to receive Accommodations
 IEP documents do not apply in college
 C/DS office can often use exiting documentation, such as an IEP, School
Psychologist evaluation, and/or 504 Plan documentation to provide temporary
accommodations
 Contact C/DS office for the Board of Regents documentation guidelines and
processes for obtaining permanent accommodations
 Students seeking accommodations should submit existing documentation to the
Counseling/Disability Services office for evaluation. Student will be notified if
additional documentation is needed.
 Costs associated with testing and documentation can vary. Consult with the
Counseling/Disability Services office before pursuing any updated testing.
ADVICE AND RECOMMENDATIONS
 Students with disabilities are often more successful when they request
and use accommodations
 Don’t allow pride to get in the way
 Go through the process of obtaining approval for accommodations, even
if you don’t think you want to use them
A student always has the option of not requesting/using
approved accommodations
The process can be a lengthy one
 Student’s responsibility to request accommodations
each and every time
 Don’t expect “day of” accommodations
Make arrangements ahead of time
Request accommodation with professor
2-3 business days before exam
• Would you like to take a campus tour? Meet with a
student leader in the rotunda!
• Otherwise, head over to the Student Center to:
Check status of your students’ Financial Aid
OR Speak with a Student Affairs counselor
OR Check on Housing Status
OR Pay any Application or Housing Fees
OR Grab lunch while you wait for your student!
The End!

Accommodations • are designed to “level the playing field” • are not designed to ensure success
  • 53. ACCOMMODATIONS Accommodations in college are very different from high school/k12  Colleges determine accommodations based on Americans with Disabilities (ADA) legislation.  K12 systems determine accommodations based on Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) legislation.  Documentation is required in order to receive Accommodations  IEP documents do not apply in college  C/DS office can often use exiting documentation, such as an IEP, School Psychologist evaluation, and/or 504 Plan documentation to provide temporary accommodations  Contact C/DS office for the Board of Regents documentation guidelines and processes for obtaining permanent accommodations  Students seeking accommodations should submit existing documentation to the Counseling/Disability Services office for evaluation. Student will be notified if additional documentation is needed.  Costs associated with testing and documentation can vary. Consult with the Counseling/Disability Services office before pursuing any updated testing.
  • 54. ADVICE AND RECOMMENDATIONS  Students with disabilities are often more successful when they request and use accommodations  Don’t allow pride to get in the way  Go through the process of obtaining approval for accommodations, even if you don’t think you want to use them A student always has the option of not requesting/using approved accommodations The process can be a lengthy one  Student’s responsibility to request accommodations each and every time  Don’t expect “day of” accommodations Make arrangements ahead of time Request accommodation with professor 2-3 business days before exam
