● Here you can study the ESO (Secondary Compulsary Education), Pre-university studies

4. Activities we do
We normally do some activities, but this year we can’t.

● Go to PortAventura World (An Amusement Park)
● Ride bikes

● You can visit the church, the old church and the river

9. Agriculture and livestock
● There’s an agriculture cooperative. There you can buy local products like olive oil, wine,
fruits (cherries, peaches, plums…)
● There are 2 bakeries. (Forn Joan, Ca Costa)
● There are 2 olive mills. There you can buy wine and olive oil too.

10. Typical dishes
Ginestar and Benissanet have some typical dishes, here are some examples:
● Borraines: The borraines are fried leaves with honey or sugar
● Pastissets: It’s a biscuit filled with chocolate or “cabell d’àngel” (a pumpink dought with sugar)
● Corassons: It’s a normal biscuit.

11. Traditions
The “Jota”: The “Jota” is a typical dance in Terres de l’Ebre and Aragó. A lot of villages
have their own “Jota”.

12. Most important Festivities
Fira del raure:
It’s a fair where you can buy artesanal products
from all over the Terres de l’Ebre.
It’s usually in ends of september.
(This year for the covid, the fair was suspended)
Sant Martí:
Is the local festivity, it’s always in november.
It always start on thursday and ends on monday.

13. History
Ginestar is a village from the arabs, but they found graves from before.
The name Ginestar it’s called this way because in the middle of the actual village
there was a large broom.

● There are 1161 inhabitants
● You can visit the music museum and the river.
● There is a music band called “Banda de música municipal de Benissanet”
● There’s a hostel called “Cal Metge”
● There’s an air raid shelter museum.

17. Agriculture
● There are two food processing plants called “cooperativa agrícola Sant Jaume
de Benissanet” and “grup fruiter” where you can buy local oil, wine and fruits.
● There’s a bakery called “Panadería Mussol”

18. Typical dishes
● The “calçotada” it’s a typical food. Basically you eat roasted “calçots”, a vegetable, with a
tomato and more vegetables sauce
● The “allioli” it’s sauce made by oil, egg and garlic.
● The “samfaina” it’s a vegetables mixt. The vegetables usually are pepper, onion and
eggplant

19. Traditions
The “sardana” is a typical dance of Catalonia. The people grab their hands in circle and
start dance. A famous “sardana” here is Santa Espina.

20. Most important festivities
The most important festivity in Benissanet is Sant Joan.
● Sant Joan is a Popular festivity in whole Catalonia, but in Benissanet is their local festivity. In
Sant Joan every village does a large bonfire and throw fireworks, they also eat the “coca de Sant
Joan” a dessert.
An important Benissanet tradition in Sant Joan it’s cook sausages in a small bonfire, and dance
around.

21. History
In Benissanet there’s an air raid shelter from the Spanish Civil War, also called
“Batalla de l’Ebre”, called “La Font Gran”. Now you can visit it, there you can watch
documentaries about the war.

22. The weather on Ginestar and Benissanet
Ginestar and Benissanet have a dry weather.
● In the winter, it’s usually cold, over 0-5 celsius degrees in the morning and night, and over 8-10 celsius
degrees in the afternoon. In the morning it’s so foggy.
● In spring and autumn is warm and cool, kinda windy, and it doesn’t rain a lot.
● In the summer it’s so hot. In the afternoon it can reach more than 40 celsius degrees. The nights and
mornings are hot too, over 30 celsius degrees.

24. The river Ebre
● The river Ebre is 930 km. It starts in Cantabria and ends in The Mediterranean
sea.
● It is the second largest river in the Iberian Peninsula.
