Final evaluation presentation part 2
1. Questions Two
How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
2. Who is being represented and Why?
Name : Laura Hibbit
She is represented as a quiet British
girl, who doesn't like to stand out too
much shown through her simple clothing.
She is shown to come from a working class
family and area from her setting and
location.
She is represented this way because we
want the audience to sympathise with her
situation and almost put themselves in her
position as the audience can relate to her
and be even more frightened as she would
seem more vunerable.
3. Who is being represented and Why?
Name : Cilia Elizabeth Carter
She is represented as a old and scary
maid, that is very threatening and
angry upon being killed towards
Laura.
She is represented this way because
she is very angry upon being killed
because of knowing a secret and we
want to show the audience how
dangerous ghost can become if you
enter their territorial space
4. Who is being represented and Why?
Name : Mary Elizabeth Carter
She is represented as a old and scary
maid, that is very threatening and
angry upon being killed towards
Laura.
She is represented this way because
she is very angry upon being killed
because of knowing a secret and we
want to show the audience how
dangerous ghost can become if you
enter their territorial space
5. What type of social group are you representing
and why?
We are representing a less obvious social group
and established social group. She represent the
quiet and to themselves social group, where they
aren't too outgoing and have their own
unconventional interests – for example, ghosts.
We are representing this social group because we
feel it makes her a more sympathetic character
and helps the audience put themselves in her
shoes as she's more venerable making the film
more real for them
6. How did you represent the character
Representation- We represent her as a venerable
character.
Costume- by wearing no pattern designed clothes not
showing not to drag too much attention to herself
Setting- By placing her in a working class setting we
wanted her to seem more relatable from out target
audience
Lighting- The lighting was dull to emphasise a spooky
mood
Colour- We added a blue effect to make the setting
look cold – which will make the audience feel cold
Body langauge- The body language is tense and
awkward to show she is out of a comfort zone and
emphasising wary gestures and timid behaviour
Facial expression- Shock, straight faced, frightened
7. How did you represent the character
Representation- We represent her as being
old, scary and having a uncomfortable vibe
Costume- Plain black and white clothing to show
them as being maids as back in the days those
clothing made them seem less important to elite.
Setting- Placing her in the closet to show a
uncomfortable atmosphere and attachment.
Lighting- Dark to make the place mysterious.
Colour- Black and white to represent death and a
maid
Body language- stiff – dead-like
Facial expression- Dead. By not making any interest
movements just making her body loose and quite
still.

9. Positive or negative representation? Why?
It is both negative and positive.
The ghosts are represented negatively and they are
threatening, dangerous, and uncomfortable.
However, Laura is represented positively as she's a
sweet young girl who is seemed to be venerable
and would be liked by the audience.
VS.
10. Is it a stereotypical convention? Why?
In some sense this is a stereotypical convention as
the ghost is usually stereotyped as the villain and
the main character as the victim.
However, the reasons of Laura getting involved with
these ghosts is that she feels sorry for them and
wants to set them free, whereas conventionally, it
would be to protect themselves, rather than
understand the ghost – which is why she goes
through the possession
11. How does the representation relate to the
target audience?
The representation relates as she is the
going through the same stage of life as
our target audience (15-19) Also through
the fashion of Laura, the target audience
could relate to the style interesting them
to watch the film.
Also the ghosts representation will
excite our target audience as
teenagers enjoy taking risks and
doing new things and therefore will
enjoy the thrill of being scared
12. Is it a fair or accurate representation? Why?
It is, because the ghosts
negative representation has
reasons behind the violent
behaviours as they are bitter
and angry of being murdered.
And again, it is, because we
haven't under or over
exaggerated our character
into something unrealistic
13. Why we represented this social group
We represented this ‘quiet underestimated’ social group
because we wanted our character to be unconventional
from the typical loud and exaggerated main character. We
wanted the use of effects and mise-en-scene to emphasise
the ‘scare’ rather than the character so it doesn't distract
the audience from their own reaction
15. Film distributing companies that we have
