1. Is it Symmetrical? U nit 2 Session 3.4 & 3.5 I nvestigations in Number, Data, and Sace
2. Session 3.4: Is it Symmetrical? Math Focus: Id entify lines of symmetry. Develop fluency with the doubles combinations to 10 + 10. Determine what makes a design symmetrical.
3. Ten Minute Math: Today's Number: 29 Create numerical expressions for the number 29 using addition and/or subtraction. Record your expressions on your paper to be turned in. Make sure you have written the date and the heading of today's ten minute math: Today's Number: 29.
5. Discussion: Is it Symmetrical? *Students share created designs made from pattern blocks and color tiles from sessions 3.1 and 3.2. *How did you plan your design? *How did you make it? *Why is your design symmetrical?
6. Activity 2: Doubling with Pattern Block Designs Each half and half sheet has a mirror line, or line of symmetry, down the middle of it. We will be using Half and Half sheets to make a pattern block design on Side A.
8. Half and Half Task Instructions: Complete SAB pages 36 - 39 #1 Build half of a design out of pattern blocks along the line of symmetry. #2 Predict the total number of blocks. #3 Complete the design. #4 Count the total number of blocks.
