2. USING OF CONVENTIONS
On the left you can see a shot from ‘Drive’, and on the right is a shot from our media
OS. There are definite similarites between the set and the positioning of the character.
This is pleasing as we can see how our media OS can match up to professionally made
films.
3. On the left is two shots from ‘Casino Royale’ and on the right is our OS. A popular
convention in Opening Sequence’s is the main character having a drink (normally
whiskey). We have also abided by this convention, and here we can see how our
OS matches up to that of a James Bond thriller
4. Moreover, we also dressed our
lead character so that he would
appear quintessentially American.
On the left we have a screengrab
from the classic American show
‘Supernatural’, where the character
is wearing a plaid shirt and t shirt
We can see in our opening
sequence that our character
is dressed in almost exactly
the same thing
5. A bible is something that you will most
likely find around the bedside table in
a motel room.
Our opening shot is of our character lying
on a bed, with the three main features
being the bible, the man and the money.
By having the bible, it gives the OS
authenticity as it resembles real life
6. CHALLENGING
This shot on the left is from the OS of
the film ‘Enemy of the State’, which was
a film that we always felt was similar
to the tone and style of ours.
However, their first sequence is between
two characters talking- whereas ours
is set in one room, indoors, with only
one character. They have multiple.
Moreover, the sequence that they have
after their first scene (shown above) is
more abstract than ours, with multiple
images all referring to the theme of the
movie, but with no narrative. In this way,
ours is challenging the convention that
many thrillers have; a fast paced, edgy
opening sequence.
7. This is a screenshot from the opening
scene of ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’, a
film that is of a similar genre and
style to ours.
However, their OS is fast moving,
and filmed with a shaky camera.
Although it does involve police, this
is a chase scene- whereas ours
is a sit-and-wait,
Here we have the opening sequence
of ‘Quantum of Solace’, which is
a recent James Bond film. Their
opening sequence is also a fast
paced sequence (though more action
than the above). This is in extreme
contrast to our OS, as ours is slow
moving and involves very little
action at all.
