1. Evaluation Question 1
Media Study
In what ways does your media products
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. CALLAC
The thriller opening sequence we produced is about a
man who has the ability to travel through time, this
allows him to help the police to solve crime.
In this power point I am going to compare our sequence
to other media products for example, The Life and
Death of Otto Bloom, Looper, and the music video of
Breezeblocks.
3. The life and death of Otto Bloom

D2KFCpQ0
It is an Australian fictional
documentary, drama film written and
directed by Cris Jones. Its production
company was Optimism and was
distributed by Bonsai Films.
It was released on 28th of July 2016.
The story is about a man who lives his
life backwards or in reverse, which
means that he knows future not the
past.
4. Looper

uhsmtfHw
It is an American science fiction thriller
film written and directed by Rian
Johnson. Its production company was
Endgame Entertainment, and was
distributed by Tristar Pictures.
It was released in Toronto, September 6,
2012.
It is about a man who is a contract killer
working for a criminal company, he to
kills people that were send to him by
time travel.
6. Comparing the name and titles
In their film title they include the name of their main
character Otto Bloom. I think the reason why they named him
Otto is because the name can be read backwards(a palindrome
name), which is logical as he is living his life backwards.
The title of our thriller is also the name of our main character.
We chose the name Callac, because it is a male palindrome
name, which can hit that the character has a special ability to
travel back to the past.
The titles are both written in white capital letters with black
backgrounds, placing in the middle of the screen. The titles
are big and clear for the audience to look at.
We flipped the last two letters of our title to grab the
audience’s attention and make the fact that the name can be
read from backwards more obvious.
7. Comparing character
Otto Bloom
Living his life different
from others, he is self-
complacence because he
is special and famous.
The costume of Otto
Bloom is more mature.
Nice clothing, gives the
audience a feeling that
he cares about fashion.
Callac
He is special because of
his ability. He have
confidence in what he
believes, so he does not
listen to what other says.
The costume of Callac
shows that he is a
teenager, a feeling of
casual.
8. Comparing plotline
Difference
In Looper the main
character is a member of
a criminal organisation.
Looper is set in the
future. Our thriller is set
in the present.
At the end of Looper, the
main character kills
himself to save the child
and his mother. We did
not plan that to happen
in our thriller.
Similarity
Both story involves time
travel, past and future.
Both have fighting or
killing scenes.
Using their power to help
or protect others.
9. Comparing editing
In the film Looper after the title appearing, the move
starts with black background, and the main character
Joe explaining the setting of the film. For example,
when it was set in time, then cuts to other scenes with
the narration continuing.
In our thriller, we also started with black background on
the screen it is to make the audience to focus on what is
going to happen in the sequence.
We did not use narration in our sequence, but the sound
of the birds was played through out the sequence,
linking the death with the birds to foreshadow the bad
luck.
10. Comparing camera angles
In the film, there are several shots when the main
character needs to check the time.
The shot is from the character’s point of view, as the
watch fill the frame, it is used to show the audience
the time and what the character is looking at.
In our sequence, we want the audience to see on the
fact that the inspector checked the time on his watch.
Which means that he is annoyed by the main character
and thinks that he is using up his own time for something
pointless.
close up on the hand and watch.
11. In Looper and our thriller, both have
a lot of close up shots taken on the
main characters. These shots are
used to make the main character
stand out from the background,
focusing on their facial expressions,
eye-line and their emotions they
want to express.
12. Comparing action and
pace
The action taken placed in the
music video Breezeblocks is mostly
played backwards in slow motion.
The fight is between a man and a
woman. The woman wanted to kill
the man, but then got herself
killed by him.
In our opening sequence the girl is
injured and killed by the man.
Unlike the music video she did not
fight back at all.
The process of her getting killed is
mostly played reversely in slow
motion, this is because we wants
to show that it was happened in
the past.
