3. Features of Hitchcock’s films
Lighting:
Alfred Hitchcock mainly uses dark shadows and black and white in his films. In the wrong man he uses black and white and
in his other films, there very dark and most are filmed at night. The darkness of Hitchcock's films is a common feature
that he uses often.
Opening Titles:
The titles that Hitchcock uses are commonly a sharp, bold font and which is spread across the whole
screen. He uses mainly yellow or orange fonts which have a darker colour shadow around the font.
Setting:
Hitchcock mainly uses outside or empty buildings for his films. As in the screenshots from four different films we can see
that Alfred has used quite an empty outside film, a train driving past a dark building, an empty large outside space where
we can see the figure which makes you wonder where it is, an empty, dark Church and a street.
Camera shots:
He mainly uses medium shots, medium close-ups, high-angle tilts and establishing shots to show where the scenes are set.
Its common that he uses close-ups of props or buildings as the titles role.
His films are mainly dark and mysterious and start of quite tense but exciting.
