Raja Ram Mohan Roy was born in 1772 in West Bengal and was deeply influenced by Hinduism and Islam in his early life through his education. He became a prominent social reformer, founding the Brahmo Sabha in 1828 which formed into a church in 1830. Roy published many works on religion and social issues in multiple languages and was the first to introduce the word "Hinduism" in English. He campaigned against practices like sati and the caste system. Roy passed away in 1833 after a life dedicated to religious and social reform through writing and publishing.
