5. ā¢ PLANNER
ā¢ EXPLANATION AND WORKING:-
ā¢ The planer like shaper is a m/c tool
ā¢ primarily intended to produce plane and flat surfaces by a
ā¢ single point cutting tool. A planer is very large compared
ā¢ to shaper. In a planer the work which is supported on
ā¢ the table reciprocates past the stationary cutting tool and
ā¢ feed is given by the lateral movement of the tool.
ā¢ Double housing planer or std. Planer
ā¢ Open side planer
ā¢ Divided table planer
ā¢ Edge or plate planer

7. ā¢ APPLICATION:-
ā¢
ā¢ The common machining which are also done in
shaping machines
ā¢ Machining the salient features like the principal
surfaces and guideways of beds and tables of
various machines like lathes, milling machines,
grinding machinesand planing machines itself,
broaching machines etc.
ā¢ common applications of planning.
9. ā¢ EXPLAINATION:- A lathe is a machine tool which turns cylindrical material,
touches a cutting tool to it, and cuts the material. The lathe is one of the
machine tools most well used by machining.
ā¢ WORKING:- The lathe is a MACHINE TOOL which holds the workpiece
between two rigid and strong supports called centers or in a chuck or face
plate which revolves. The cutting tool is rigidly held and supported in a
tool post which is fed against the revolving work. The normal cutting
operations are performed with the cutting tool fed either parallel or at
right angles to the axis of the work. The cutting tool may also be fed at an
angle relative to the axis of work for machining tapers and angles.
ā¢ TYPES:-
ā¢ 1.Bench lathe.
ā¢
ā¢ 2.Speed lathe
ā¢
ā¢ 3. Engine lathe
ā¢
ā¢ 4.Tool Room Lath
10. ā¢ 5.Capstan & Turret lathes
ā¢
ā¢ 6.automatic lathe
ā¢
ā¢ Types of automatic lathe:
ā¢ 1) According to type of stock material
ā¢ Bar automatics; Chucking automatics
ā¢ 2) According to No. of spindles
ā¢ Single spindle; Multiple spindle
ā¢ 3) According to the directions of the axis of m/c spindles
ā¢ Horizontal; Vertical
ā¢
ā¢
ā¢
11.
12. ā¢ APPLICATIONS:-
ā¢ Description
ā¢ Woodturning
ā¢ Used to make wooden objects such as ornate table
legs, baseball bats, wooden bowl, and platters;
operators use a variety of tools to form
ā¢ Metalworking
ā¢ Used to create precision parts; most often associated
with a multistep process requiring different tools for
each step
ā¢ Metal Spinning
ā¢ A process where metal spins on a spindle, while the
operator works it with tools; an automated process
13. ā¢ Acrylic Spinning
ā¢ Involves spinning acrylic on a spindle to form items from
acrylic; most often used in the making of the top pieces for
trophies
ā¢ Thermal Spraying
ā¢ Combines the rotating spindle with the painting process;
the paint sticks to the stock via processes involving heating
the paint materials
ā¢ Pottery
ā¢ By using a potter's wheel, artisans can make a variety of
pottery pieces; though formed mainly by hand, craft
persons also use tools
ā¢ ...
15. ā¢ The shaper is a reciprocating type of machine
tool intended primarily to produce flat
surfaces. These surfaces may be horizontal,
vertical or inclined. Here the cutting tool is
given a reciprocating motion, and after every
cutting stroke, the work is fed(during return
stroke) to provide an uncut layer for
ā¢ machining..
16.
17. ā¢ TYPES OF SHAPER MACHINE
ā¢
ā¢ Crank shaper
ā¢ Geared shaper
ā¢ Hydraulic shaper
ā¢ Horizontal and vertical shaper
ā¢ Travelling head shaper
ā¢ Standard shaper
ā¢ Universal shaper.
ā¢ APPLICATIONS:-
ā¢
ā¢ Making features like slots, steps etc. which are also bounded by flat surface(a) slot,
(b) pocket (c) T-slot and (d) Vee-block in shaping machine by single point tools.
ā¢ Forming grooves bounded by short width curved surfaces by using single point but
form tools. (a) oil grooves and (b)straight tooth of spur gears can be made in
shaping machine Some other machining applications of shaping machines are
cutting
ā¢ external keyway and splines, smooth slitting or parting, cutting teeth.
ā¢
18. ā¢ SLOTTER
ā¢ EXPLAINATION AND WORKING
ā¢
ā¢ This operates almost on the same principle as that of a
ā¢ shaper. Slotter was invented before shaper. Here the ram
ā¢ reciprocates in a vertical axis. There is no quick return
ā¢ and the mechanism used for ram is Crank and connecting
ā¢ rod mechanism. The slotter is provided with a rotary
ā¢ table that can be moved longitudinally and cross wise.
ā¢ The slotter is used for making regular and irregular
ā¢ surfaces both internal and external and also for handling
ā¢ complex work pieces. Slotter is more robust compared to
ā¢ vertical shaper.
19. ā¢ TYPES OF SLOTTER
ā¢ Puncher slotter
ā¢ Precision slotter
ā¢ APPLICATION :-
ā¢ Enlargement and finishing non-circular hole
bordered by a no. of flat surface
ā¢ In internal grooves and slots of rectangular with
curved section.
ā¢ Blind simitrical holes similar to hexagonal
socket.
ā¢
20. DRILLER
ā¢ EXPLAINATION AND WORKING
ā¢ A drilling machinewas primarily designed to
originate ahole, but it can also perform a No.
of similar operations. In a drilling machine
holes may be drilled quickly and at low cost.
The hole is generated by the rotating edge of a
cutting tool known as the drill which
