Professional Development And Continuous Learning
POLICY
This Policy stems from the view that professional development and continuous learning are necessary to maintain the quality of the University staff and
their continued readiness and ability to contribute effectively to the mission and goals of the University.
"Policy" is not a firmly characterized idea but rather a profoundly adaptable one, utilized as a part of distinctive courses on diverse events.
A particular choice or set of choices intended to complete such a strategy.
Policy Procedure
Responsibilities
Individual staff members, managers and the University share the responsibility for staff development.
Staff members are encouraged to take responsibility for their own work–related learning and career development. They are also encouraged to assist
others in their development.
The University is responsible for providing opportunities, resources and tools so that staff can become competent in their roles and achieve their career
aspirations.
Identifying development needs
A staff member's learning and development needs are primarily identified through the performance cycle and are captured in the staff member's
Performance Workplan.
Recognizing learning and improvement needs depends on a formal or casual evaluation of winning levels of abilities, mentalities and information, and
on any present or foreseen crevices. Such an investigation will empower choices about what realizing procurements are required at individual, group or
hierarchical level. These

Mandatory Continuing Professional Development ( Cpd ) For...
Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for professional engineers in Ontario has been an issue subject to controversy over the years.
The controversy surrounding the issue is due in part to the complications of introducing such a program, and the fact that "Professional Engineers
Ontario (PEO) is the only professional engineering association in Canada that does not have a CPD program [1]." The debate regarding CPD for
professional engineers in Ontario is pertinent because the resolution has been ongoing since September of 2013, and is up for approval in the
upcoming February 2016 PEO council meeting [2]. Therefore, it is important that the CPD debate is resolved and a consensus is reached. Mandatory
CPD is a concept to which professionals are required and encouraged to maintain and enhance their knowledge throughout their careers to provide a
standard of competence to those practicing [3]. The goal of CPD is to be "proactive in regulating the profession...rather than (reactively)...punishing
license holders for practice failures [1]." Introducing a CPD program will ensure public safety, "contribute to a reduction in risk for the public and
individual practitioner", and "push the profession to higher levels of skills and knowledge" [1]. As a result, the professional engineers of Ontario
should engage in mandatory CPD to ensure the continued competency of those practicing and the safety of the public. The proactive nature of a CPD
program may prevent failures

In 2010 the United States Government passed into law the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Passage of this act enacted broad sweeping changes across the
health care system focusing on expanded coverage, control of health care costs and improvement in the health care delivery system (Kaiser Family
Foundation [KFF], 2013). This represents the largest change to the nation's health care system since 1965 with the creation of Medicare and Medicaid
programs (Institute of Medicine of the National Academies [IOM], 2010). As the "largest segment of the health care workforce," nursing is at the
forefront of these historic changes and as such, plays an integral role in the successful implementation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poses a significant threat to an already strained healthcare system. As such, nursing is being looked upon as a credible, viable source for
bridging the gap between coverage and access (IOM, 2010). Statistics have shown that advanced practice nursing scope of practice in the primary
care setting is similar to medical practice performed by physicians as much as 98 percent (IOM, 2010, p. 90). Nurses are thus increasingly utilized as
primary care providers and can effectively manage chronic illnesses with improved clinical outcomes and fewer acute exacerbations (IOM, 2010, p. 94).
Since 2010 the IOM report has had a sweeping impact on the nursing field. With its hallmark mandate to have 80 percent of the nursing workforce
hold a baccalaureate degree or higher by 2020, nursing employers, particularly in the acute care setting, have begun to require a BSN degree as a
minimum requirement of employment regardless of prior experience. I have taken upon myself to rise to this challenge by obtaining my BSN degree
and as a long–term goal advance my career into the field of advanced practice nursing in anesthesia. I further plan to take a more active leadership role
in the nursing community by participating in department and inter–department meetings and committees.
As the IOM report has shown, nurses have a unique and valuable perspective that is essential to providing

Continuous Professional development
Define CPD and analyse its role in professional updating and improvement of practice with particular reference to your own approach to CPD
Continuous professional development (CPD) is a framework of learning and development that ensures a professional's competency, effectiveness,
knowledge, skills and practice are continually kept up to date through 'lifelong learning' strategies and activities.
There is not a fixed CPD standard or structure and a 'one size fits all' process would not work for all professions and individuals who work for
companies with diverse objectives and working practices. The various approaches may have common themes and goals such as setting objectives for
development and charting progress towards them, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Formal training may include on–line and CD–ROM based courses or full or part time study leading to qualifications. Development on the other hand
can be more informal and has a broader outlook on learning and may include private study such as reading, observing and reflection.
Structured continual learning is important in any profession because new research and practices may require new knowledge and skills. For example
the QCF Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development is one example of formal learning that I have considered and want to undertake.
This is for both professional and financial reasons. Professionally it proves a level of academic ability, knowledge and credibility. It is the standard
that many career companies now expect from professionals delivering career guidance in schools. Gaining the qualification should also help me
remain competitive when applying for a job and hopefully keep me within a reasonable pay scale.
Conferences, workshops and seminars also help keep professionals up to date with changes to practice and can be a vehicle for networks to be built
up and experiences shared.
On the job training such staff training, shadowing, secondment, coaching and mentoring all provide excellent provision for professionals to learn new
skills and build up work based knowledge. Professionals may also learn by taking part in working groups or involvement in research projects.

The Use Of Mandatory Continuing Professional Development...
The iconic journalist and one of the most trusted figures in American television, Walter Cronkite once said that in seeking the truth, one must get to
both sides of the story [1]. It may be philosophically worded perhaps, but it is unequivocally true. As such, the likely introduction of mandatory
continuing professional development by the PEO is a thorny topic that must be critically analyzed and scrutinized on both ends of the spectrum. Those
in support for continuing professional development argue that practitioners get applicable training on the job and that certain concepts such as ethics
simply do not change and thus don't require a statue for mandatory continuing development. However, others have an antipodal perspective, arguing
that continuing professional development should be mandatory to prevent loss of knowledge over time and to allow members to keep at pace with the
latest practices and procedures of the engineering profession.
Perhaps the most convincing argument that those against continuing professional development provide is that engineers get all the adequate skills
training on the job. This is most prevalent for new engineering graduates, that can spend up to two years getting trained prior to starting the job. Take
for example, Lehigh Hanson Canada – subsidiary of the building materials conglomerate, HeidelbergCement Group. New graduates spend 24 months in
a comprehensive program that provides on–the–job as well as formal training [2]. To put in

Professional Military Medical Development
Professional military medical development is neither the outcome of a series of courses nor the product of a sequence of military assignments. It is a
continual process of self–assessment and development of common goals to achieve progressive outcomes. Reflecting on my experiences, I recall many
influential instances in my medical career. In some cases, I did not realize the impact on my development as a leader until months, or even years later.
I have had the opportunity in the military to develop a diverse range of career skills and work experience. Upon entering the military, I knew I had one
goal, and that was to help Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen. After graduation from residency in 2010, I had many incredible opportunities

Personal And Professional Development Paper
A personal and professional development plan is used as an instrument for planning a career, establishing career goals, and achieving personal goals. It
can also be used to help modify or address areas of improvement by conducting self–assessments for reaching goals. Moreover, it can help an individual
create goals and develop action plans for goal attainment. The first steps in creating a personal and professional development plan are to write a
personal vision statement, use self–assessment tools to identify character strengths and weaknesses, and research adult development theories.
Additionally, I must establish goals, write effective goal statements, and construct action plans to overcome obstacles that may detract from achieving ...

Professional Development Essay
There are several milestones that our society uses to measure personal development and suitability for advancement to higher degrees of social
responsibility. One such milestone is career selection and attainment. Some individuals may never find a satisfying vocation, whereas others know what
they desire from the day they can communicate. A simple way to reduce the unfortunate friction of choosing acareer is to be self–aware. Understanding
what makes one happy, fulfilled, and the things that are important to them, is the easiest way to narrow down the world's endless possible occupations
and ensure job satisfaction. There are many ways to gain personal enlightenment, perhaps the simplest and most effective way is to take a course ...

I began to ponder the results and realized that this is the reason for my wide–range of noted talents. Another facet of the results that I would like to
mention is the careers of individuals with similar scores/results. Management analysts/consultants, librarians, and pharmacists all have similar scores
on the Personal Globe Inventory. The noteworthy aspect of this is that these careers blend together a variety of my strengths in management and
analyzing, as well as my desire for order, and my passion for the medical field and helping others. Though I find value in the assessment of oneself, not
all tests are equal in evaluation of the individual.
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator book exercise and the NEO–PRI, though seemingly valid, did not provide much novel insight into my career
development. As a 25 year old young woman on the verge of completing a bachelor's degree, I am very convinced and satisfied with my chosen
career path. I have had a good variety of life experience, both professional and personal. This being said, these types of assessments do not provide
practical information at this point in my development. Whereas, I am convinced of their legitimacy and usefulness, it appears that this type of
evaluation would be more reasonable for someone who is seeking self–awareness, does not have a clear path, or is seeking further exploration into a
prospective career to ensure its suitability for their personality and lifestyle. These assessments would be

Personal Professional Development Study
Rationale
This research task is to expand on personal professional development, as it helps to gain a better understanding of the implementation of free–flow play
and the positive impacts it could have on the children, staff and the setting.
This research will help with the gaining of new study skills, knowledge to improve practice and the way things are seen by using academic journals
and books (Sharp, 2009). The gaining of new skills will help in the future as researching skills will become more efficient, saving on time spent
seeking for reliable sources.
The research task will be carried out as an action research project (Hardy and Rönnerman, 2011) as the use of reflection as a tool to support and

This is where there can be seen to be restrictions to free flow play such as: child gates, activities that don't support all play types or meet all prime areas
of learning. The small group will consist of a mixture of boys and girls that are full time at the nursery and each child will be from a different
keyworker. This is for ethical consideration, as well as making the project as fair as possible.
The proposed population group consists of only three children due to the staff to children ratio of one to four. Due to the room size only three
members of staff can be in one room. Therefore, to have one child to one keyworker to look at child attachment when playing, it will leave the group
with only having three children.
Taking part in the project will also be the members of staff that are situated within the two to three year olds room. Due to being part of the tracking

(Recognition of Prior Learning)
The term and the assessment or evaluation criteria being used varies between governing body, institutions and countries. There is the popularity of the
need to recognise informal learning so as to make learning accessible to everyone. To justify the need for RPL, I have discussed some of its benefits
below.
Benefits of Recognition of Prior Learning
The Learner: * It validates the worth of learning achieved by themselves * Increases self–esteem and confidence * Encourages learners to pursue
education * May reduce the cost of college education by eliminating duplication of learning * Enables progression to other programme of study *
Increases learner's perception and understanding that learning is a lifelong process
The Educational Institution: * Provides a vital service for the community, business and industry * Financial gain through increase in student recruitment
and retention * Increases in efficiency by reducing the need for unnecessary training * Enables for more appropriate learner placement in programmes
The Workplace and the Community: * It encourages workplace partnership with the educational institution * It helps in recognising lifelong learning
and society's need for a productive and capable workforce.

communicate with authority figures (IOM, 2010). The Impact of the IOM Report on Nursing Practice, Specifically in Primary Care Due to the
ever–changing requirements of the population, healthcare must undergo an essential change in order to provide "patient–centered care; deliver more
primary as opposed to specialty care; deliver more care in the community rather than the acute care setting; provide seamless care; enable all health
professionals to practice to the full extent of their education, training, and competencies; and foster inter–professional collaboration" (Future, 2010).
Achieving this change will provide better care, lesson medical mistakes, and increase safety. The administration of patient–centered care increases the
validity of the nursing profession. Changing Individual Nursing Practice to Meet the Goals of the IOM Report The advancements suggested by the
IOM committee attempt to improve the nursing profession in ways that will ensure that nurses are continuing their education, in hopes to stay abreast
of the demands of the health care system. Evidence–based practice has reformed nursing care; therefore, we must ensure it is implemented in all
aspects of nursing practice. "The IOM's "The Future of

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR STRATEGIC MANAGERS Introduction According to Guskey (2001), Professional Development refers to
the intentionally designed endeavours to bring about improvement and change in the professionals towards a planned goal and vision of achievement.
These goals determine what to include in professional development, which processes and procedures to develop and follow and what criteria to use to
assess and evaluate the process. Guskey (2001) further outlines the following steps to be taken to ensure that professional development achieves what
it intends to: 1. Professional development endeavours should have a clear vision and goals. 2. The goals should be meaningful. 3. The goal assessment

* The next thing that signifies the priority of one's tasks is the consequences of the tasks. If the performance of a task results in great consequences for
the professional and the organisation, that task should get the utmost priority. * With time, the priority of the tasks may change. So, the priority list
should be updated as per the changes in the professional circumstances. Dealing with Time Wasters According to Shafir Ahmed (ezinearticles.com),
there are two types of time wasters: internal and external. The internal time wasters are self–generated and easier to control than the external time
wasters that other people generate and waste our time. The following are the major sources of internal time wasters: * Lack of planning and
prioritising * Lack of proper organisation of the work and the workplace * Procrastination The external time wasters are the following: * Visitors at
the workplace * Unnecessary telephone calls and emails Time wasters should be dealt with properly. The internal time wasters can be minimised by
having a control upon the way of my performing tasks and organising, prioritising my tasks and setting deadlines. The external time wasters are hard to
eliminate but they should be dealt with by developing rules and communicating them to others directly or indirectly, Effective Delegation Delegation of

Definition Of Planning Professional Development
Introduction This paper explores the concept of planning professional development to meet the needs of special education students by examining
articles from scholarly journals in the special educational world, psychology in schools, and a case study. Even though teachers are given training on
the importance of following a student's Individualized Educational Program (IEP), there seems to be a gap in training when it comes to the level of
instruction that special education students actually receive in the classroom. In analyzing the Texas Academic Performance Report for Timber Creek
High School, there might be reason to believe that simply following a student's IEP might not be enough to ensure the academic success of special
education students as defined by results from the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exam. Far too often, special education
students are passed through the system out of fear of litigation yet their test scores reveal that we as educators can and must do better. After reviewing
Timber Creek's Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), I became interested in examining theprofessional development opportunities available to
educators that focus on how to enhance their current teaching strategies in regards to how they modify their lessons and assignments for their special
education students. In my search, it became apparent that beyond initial training or information swapping about the necessary modifications a student
needs,

Throughout my reflections as previously discussed I have felt under confident and lacked experience which I feel I have developed positively. In
feedback I have received from my tutor and mentor in relation to the course has been positive on the whole. There were highlighted areas for
development such as varying the techniques I use such as pair and group work. This I will try and do but it has been difficult to address as we
have the students for a short about of time and a lot of work to complete. It is something I am trying to work on and will endeavour to achieve
these aspirations in the coming months. The second area of development was given to me by my mentor, it was that I talk very quickly while
heading the class and do not allocate enough time for students to answer my questions. This I think is down to nerves when being observed.
Hopefully with the further experience I have achieved I have slowed myself down for the next observation I have. In planning appropriate
opportunities to address these identified learning needs as been quite difficult as I only have approximately 9 weeks left at work before maternity but
I will maintain to keep focussed and improve in that time. Dependant on being a new mother I will endeavour to complete online courses to ensure I
do not develop skill fade. Question 2 There are many different theories, principles and models designed around CPPD. It has become an important

Laal (2011) has put forward that in modern contexts, LLL is used in everyday life, including classroom settings, in employment, with the family, and in
wider society. This is important in order to make CPD an easier task, as there are many different settings that utilise LLL.
CPD is vital in the field of adult nursing, as healthcare is frequently being modified and amended. This is due to many factors, such as changes of
policies, which results in changes to the way adult nurses care for patients (Narayanasamy and Narayanasamy 2007). The purpose of these policies
is to ensure patients are being cared for in a safe environment. Additionally, nurses are required to keep up to date with amended procedures in order
to ensure patients are receiving safe and effective treatment (Eason 2010). This is vital in order to ensure patient safety and efficient treatment, not
only for the benefit of the patient but also because nurses are responsible for issues arising with a patient's care, and are potentially liable for mistakes
arising from incorrect procedure. LLL is also imperative in order to meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), as without
which the adult nurse would be removed from the register. These requirements are put into place in order to ensure that the patients are as safe as
possible in their environment. Adult nurses are also required to keep up with important advances within the NHS (Narayanasamy and Narayanasamy
2007), such

The Role Of Professional Networking And How It Can Assist...
Career Development: Networking Networking is an important part of career development and has been around for a many years. However, how
individuals network has changed dramatically over the last few years with the inventions of social media sites like LinkedIn and Facebook. This paper
will discuss the role of professional networking and how it can assist with career development.
Networking
Professional networking is about making and maintaining relationships with individuals who could benefit one's career. By talking with individuals,
getting to know more about them and their professional position, learning about their jobs and career experiences, and maintaining the relationships are
all part of networking (PSU, 2015). There are multiple ways to network; individual face to face communication, through social media sites like LinkedIn
and Facebook, or through professional organizations. One type of networking is used to gain information and knowledge about a particular career or
job. For a student or someone who is changing career paths, just getting to know an individual in a position that is being sought is networking. Being
able to garner information about that person's experiences may be sufficient for the individual to know if that is a career path they want to follow, or
conversely, the information gained may be sufficient enough for the individual to know that it is a path they are no longer interested in (PSU, 2015).
Networking most generally

1.2. LEARNING STYLES
For the beginning, the most important problem that can be identified when deciding to be a solicitor is learning how to take the rejections. The
experimental Learning Theory of Kolb emphasizes direct experiences, including cognitive, emotional and environmental factors that are present or
influence the learning process. It incorporates four models of learning: activist, pragmatist, theorist and reflector. These four stages learning cycle
shows that experience is transformed through reflection in concept.
For solving this problem, a mixture between all these kind of learner can help very well. The first one, activist is where the learner wants to plan how
to try a model or theory for the forthcoming experience.
The pragmatist is where the learner is doing the experience in an activity such as lab session or any other field work.
The theorist, when learner attempts to conceptualize the theory or the model about the observed thing.

four mental stages of cognitive development are Sensory Motor, Preoperational Stage, Concrete Operational Stage and Formal Operational Stage.
The initial phase of Piaget's model, Sensory Motor, arises from the birth of the child up to around two years old. Throughout this time the infant is
trying to recognize his/her new setting. This understanding is restricted to the child's according to Gregory (Date) "sensory perceptions and motor
activities" (P. 112) Infants and toddlers explore the world and know the world exist around them. They look to adults to set boundaries as they orally
explore the world by placing objects in their mouths. Mentally exploring as they grow older.
According to Piaget, the Pre Operational stage begins when children reach the ages of two up to six years old. The Pre operational stage is considered
the stage in which children operate in a world that revolves around

Professional Development of Nursing Professionals
Professional Development of Nursing Professionals In 2010 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) released a report indicating that nurses are a key
component to the improvement of the healthcare transformation in the United States of America. The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing
Health discussed the powerful impact of a highly educated and trained nurse in the medical profession by examining evidenced based research and
relative trends. In the following essay we will discuss how these findings influence nursing education, primary care nursing practice, and the
leadership roles nurses will inevitably be placed. When addressing how nursing practice will be affected, we will also discuss how the goals of the
IOM will be met. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nurse's Role as a Leader The IOM report indicated the need for nurses to become the leaders of the upcoming reform. Today's nurse is in a unique
position due to the 2013 Gallup Poll's statement that they are the most "trusted" profession in the United States. Bill Neville from the panel suggested
that more nurses be put in boardrooms, legislation panels, and given more opportunities to lead. These qualities combined give nurses more power and
force in leading discussions that will ultimately drive the change that needs to take place. Overall the IOM report is opening the door for huge
upcoming opportunities for the nursing profession. Nurses are a vital part in the healthcare reformation by becoming full partners with physicians,
creating seamless academic progression for educational advancement, and practicing to their full scope of practice.

Reflection On Professional Development
Residency I: Professional development reflection of the advocacy project While society generally views licensed professional counselors as individuals
who provide mental health therapy, their role is much broader. Counselors strive to improve the lives of the population they serve through advocating
for their profession, identifying unmet needs within their communities, creating solutions to meet these needs, and advocating for social justice. This
may be done on the individual, local, state, and national level. Advocacy can include educating the public regarding the counseling profession, creating
solutions to unmet needs in their communities, and lobbying for laws that will provide funding and coverage for mental health care. During Residency
I, students were given the opportunity to work together with a group of peers to identify an unmet need and collaborate to create a solution.
Together they practiced this process and presented it to their peers. This paper is a reflection of the author's overall learning experience related to the
topic of her group advocacy project, working with a group of peers, roles and practice of professional counselors, and the counselor's role in social
justice.

"A personal health budget is an amount of money to support your health and well being needs, which is planned and agreed between you (or someone
who represents you), and your local NHS team. It is not new money, but it may mean spending money differently so that you can get the care that you

The Importance Of The Apn Professional Development Plan
The purpose of the APN professional development plan is to apply skills and knowledge attained for individual and professional growth. The
professional development plan is a strategy to ensure the promotion of excellence in APN practice as well as a continuation to strengthen advanced
nursing practice throughout the career. Creation of a development plan will help you advance in a particular goal, objective, or position. There is an
ever–increasing need for APNs to keep learning and keep up with the rapid changes regarding legislation affecting health care policy, quality of and
access to care, and issues surrounding advanced practice nursing. Therefore, it is critical to be proactive and take personal responsibility to develop
skills for your own growth and development. New skills and knowledge augment motivation in supporting activities including communication,
education, research, recognition, and advocacy. The educational requirement for advanced nursing practice is a master's level education in a program
or track leading to APN licensure, including graduate degree–granting and post–graduate certificate programs with established educational standards
and attainment of the APN core, role core and population core competencies (National Council of State Boards, 2012). APN's acquire increased

the decision to pursue counseling after three attempts at different degrees. She became a teacher and stayed in that profession for two years. She loves
children, but didn't enjoy the group discipline that her teaching required. She feels children are brilliant and yearned to see and have individual time
with each child. After receiving her certification in grades 1–8 Stephanie hoped to serve elementary school children, but was sent to a middle school.

By Reflecting on our practice we can enhance and improve our confidence and self esteem because you can look at what you are doing well, the
things we have learnt and achieved. This can make us feel good about ourselves, this can then give us the confidence to continue working well and to
aim to try new things and to use what new skills or knowledge we have gained within our practice.
In order to reflect on our practice we must be able to look at why and how we do things and to consider if a different approach may be beneficial. In
order to be able to effectively reflect on our practice we must be able to be open– minded and question our own practice. If we can do this then it will
help us to improve our own knowledge and skills. In order to develop these skills we should be able to: * Listen openly to the ideas of others * Reflect

Impact of IOM Report On Future of Nursing
In October of 2010, the Institute of Medicine released the report "The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health". "The IOM is an
independent, nongovernment organization that gives advice to people in decision–making positions... The opinions of the IOM are highly regarded
and carry weight in legislative decision" (Grand Canyon University[GCU], n.d., para. 6). This paper will explore the impact on nursing of the IOM

This includes advanced practice RN's. Many states do not allow advanced practice RNs to practice to the extent of their abilities. Restrictive scope of
practice regulations, physician opposition, a fragmented healthcare system, and outdated insurance policies are all obstacles this country must
overcome in order for APRNs to practice to the extent of their abilities. The committee recognizes the importance of APRNs to provide the majority
of primary care in the US. Increasing the number of providers would make primary care more accessible to the population. If the recommendations of
the IOM are followed, nurses could be responsible for the majority of primary care for patients.
The IOM has stressed the importance of the nursing role in educating patients on disease prevention, management of chronic conditions, and health
promotion. This is a subject in which this author is in firm agreement. While providing patient care, it is clear there is a lack of education regarding
disease process and management. Patients frequently feel lost regarding their illness. Education will be very important when the shift from acute to
primary care occurs. Education and health promotion are areas in which this author plans to transform and improve in her practice.
The IOM committee calls for stronger leadership on the part of nurses. They feel this is critical in order to "implement the changes necessary to increase

Professional Development Plan
Nursing has been a constantly developing profession. Nurses must be confident and remain open to alliance and assessment to achieve the best patient
care. For a long–term and flourishing profession, nurses must pledge to improving their knowledge through lifetime education. (Swihart, 2009). As I
begin a graduate study in nursing I know that recognizing the program of study and uniting it both professional development and professional goals is
vital. The aim of this project is to offer an account of my educational and specialized background and also to discover professional and personal goals
connected to the course and the practicum.
Education and Professional Background My name is Angela Alimole. I will like to introduce myself by giving you a brief history of my personal life.
Presently I live in Huston, Texas, where I have lived since 2002.I previously lived in NJ from 1995 to March 2002 where I worked in a major state

Transforming nursing leadership is the third focus of the IOM report. According to the Key Message #3 of the report: "Nurses should be full
partners, with physicians and other health professionals, in redesigning health care in the United States". Nurses have proven that they have
leadership abilities in their everyday practice. The IOM stresses the importance of developing of nursing leadership skill for the transformation of the
health care system. Nurses are encouraged to collaborate and partner with physicians and other health care professionals which would make the
transition to a new model of health care more efficient. New research would be smoothly translated from the nursing education to the practice with the
help of competent nursing leaders. Partnering with physicians and other health professional would require all nurses to develop strong level of
leadership skills and competencies. Developing and mastering nursing leadership would not be achieved effectively without the nurses collaborating
with various health care professionals. The IOM report highlights that "...collaboration is a key strategy for improving problem solving and achieving
innovation in health care" (IOM, 2010). The IOM report of 2010 inspires nurses to continue the journey of changing their individual practice and take
it even to a higher level. On a personal level, I find in the report a big amount of

A lack of motivation results directly from previous experience with the training, since the training has not changed over the last six years. The
information presented did have graph and pictures but designed in a clipart format with cartoonish characters suited for participants in a younger age
group. The questions are the same one and in the same sequence. The content lacks creativity and depth. Critical thinking skills also do not appear to
be important to the creator of this course. I have taken the exams for the course without having to complete the individual modules. This is a problem
since I am sure there have been changes about how to handle safety issue in the school and classroom environment. The professional development of
teachers should be an important objective for school administrators, since teachers affect student lives daily. Understandably, teachers are required to
receive formal training and certification, based primarily on subject matter content, communication skills, classroom management abilities, and student
interaction. An important consideration is the professional development training that teachers receive and the method used to deliver the training. Of
course, there is the traditional face–to–face method, but with organizations, seeking ways to reduce training cost and travel expenses technology is an
effective alternative for training. Technology implementation increased to reach the needs of teacher

Professional Counseling Focuses on Development, Wellness...
Professional counseling is different from other counseling and psychology related fields. The desire of social work is to help the destitute. Psychology
wants to understand the nature of a person. Psychiatry deals with medical interventions. Professional counseling which officially grew out of the
vocational counseling movement of the twentieth century (Neukrug, 2014) tends to focus on development, prevention and wellness (Mellin, Hunt, &
Nichols, 2011). It is this focus on development, prevention and wellness that brings challenge to the role and identity of the professional counselor at
times, but also gives the professional counselor direction, especially in the area of specialization (Mellin, Hunt, & Nichols, 2011). Professional

The recommendations presented in the 2010 IOM report entitled Transforming Practice, Transforming Education, and Transforming Leadership depicts
how all the diverse groups in the health care arena can work together to help make sure that the health care system offers transparent, affordable, quality
care that is available to all and leads to enhanced health. The three areas in which the report paid particular attention were transforming practice,

Transforming Practice The future of health care demands that health professionals construct a system that is more patient centered than it is today.
Nurses have the opportunity to have a central role in transforming the health care system in order to generate a more accessible, high–quality, and
value–driven atmosphere for patients. "The need for this change in focus has become predominantly urgent in respect to chronic conditions; primary
care, including care coordination and transitional care; prevention and wellness; and the prevention of adverse events, such as hospital–acquired
infections. Given the aging population, moreover, the need for long–term and palliative care will also continue to grow in the coming years"

Professional Development And Continuous Learning

  • 1. Professional Development And Continuous Learning POLICY This Policy stems from the view that professional development and continuous learning are necessary to maintain the quality of the University staff and their continued readiness and ability to contribute effectively to the mission and goals of the University. "Policy" is not a firmly characterized idea but rather a profoundly adaptable one, utilized as a part of distinctive courses on diverse events. A particular choice or set of choices intended to complete such a strategy. Policy Procedure Responsibilities Individual staff members, managers and the University share the responsibility for staff development. Staff members are encouraged to take responsibility for their own work–related learning and career development. They are also encouraged to assist others in their development. The University is responsible for providing opportunities, resources and tools so that staff can become competent in their roles and achieve their career aspirations. Identifying development needs A staff member's learning and development needs are primarily identified through the performance cycle and are captured in the staff member's Performance Workplan. Recognizing learning and improvement needs depends on a formal or casual evaluation of winning levels of abilities, mentalities and information, and on any present or foreseen crevices. Such an investigation will empower choices about what realizing procurements are required at individual, group or hierarchical level. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Mandatory Continuing Professional Development ( Cpd ) For... Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for professional engineers in Ontario has been an issue subject to controversy over the years. The controversy surrounding the issue is due in part to the complications of introducing such a program, and the fact that "Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is the only professional engineering association in Canada that does not have a CPD program [1]." The debate regarding CPD for professional engineers in Ontario is pertinent because the resolution has been ongoing since September of 2013, and is up for approval in the upcoming February 2016 PEO council meeting [2]. Therefore, it is important that the CPD debate is resolved and a consensus is reached. Mandatory CPD is a concept to which professionals are required and encouraged to maintain and enhance their knowledge throughout their careers to provide a standard of competence to those practicing [3]. The goal of CPD is to be "proactive in regulating the profession...rather than (reactively)...punishing license holders for practice failures [1]." Introducing a CPD program will ensure public safety, "contribute to a reduction in risk for the public and individual practitioner", and "push the profession to higher levels of skills and knowledge" [1]. As a result, the professional engineers of Ontario should engage in mandatory CPD to ensure the continued competency of those practicing and the safety of the public. The proactive nature of a CPD program may prevent failures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Professional Development of Nursing Professionals Professional Development of Nursing Professionals In 2010 the United States Government passed into law the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Passage of this act enacted broad sweeping changes across the health care system focusing on expanded coverage, control of health care costs and improvement in the health care delivery system (Kaiser Family Foundation [KFF], 2013). This represents the largest change to the nation's health care system since 1965 with the creation of Medicare and Medicaid programs (Institute of Medicine of the National Academies [IOM], 2010). As the "largest segment of the health care workforce," nursing is at the forefront of these historic changes and as such, plays an integral role in the successful implementation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This poses a significant threat to an already strained healthcare system. As such, nursing is being looked upon as a credible, viable source for bridging the gap between coverage and access (IOM, 2010). Statistics have shown that advanced practice nursing scope of practice in the primary care setting is similar to medical practice performed by physicians as much as 98 percent (IOM, 2010, p. 90). Nurses are thus increasingly utilized as primary care providers and can effectively manage chronic illnesses with improved clinical outcomes and fewer acute exacerbations (IOM, 2010, p. 94). Since 2010 the IOM report has had a sweeping impact on the nursing field. With its hallmark mandate to have 80 percent of the nursing workforce hold a baccalaureate degree or higher by 2020, nursing employers, particularly in the acute care setting, have begun to require a BSN degree as a minimum requirement of employment regardless of prior experience. I have taken upon myself to rise to this challenge by obtaining my BSN degree and as a long–term goal advance my career into the field of advanced practice nursing in anesthesia. I further plan to take a more active leadership role in the nursing community by participating in department and inter–department meetings and committees. As the IOM report has shown, nurses have a unique and valuable perspective that is essential to providing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Continuous Professional development Define CPD and analyse its role in professional updating and improvement of practice with particular reference to your own approach to CPD Continuous professional development (CPD) is a framework of learning and development that ensures a professional's competency, effectiveness, knowledge, skills and practice are continually kept up to date through 'lifelong learning' strategies and activities. There is not a fixed CPD standard or structure and a 'one size fits all' process would not work for all professions and individuals who work for companies with diverse objectives and working practices. The various approaches may have common themes and goals such as setting objectives for development and charting progress towards them, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Formal training may include on–line and CD–ROM based courses or full or part time study leading to qualifications. Development on the other hand can be more informal and has a broader outlook on learning and may include private study such as reading, observing and reflection. Structured continual learning is important in any profession because new research and practices may require new knowledge and skills. For example the QCF Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development is one example of formal learning that I have considered and want to undertake. This is for both professional and financial reasons. Professionally it proves a level of academic ability, knowledge and credibility. It is the standard that many career companies now expect from professionals delivering career guidance in schools. Gaining the qualification should also help me remain competitive when applying for a job and hopefully keep me within a reasonable pay scale. Conferences, workshops and seminars also help keep professionals up to date with changes to practice and can be a vehicle for networks to be built up and experiences shared. On the job training such staff training, shadowing, secondment, coaching and mentoring all provide excellent provision for professionals to learn new skills and build up work based knowledge. Professionals may also learn by taking part in working groups or involvement in research projects. Babcock recognises the benefit of CPD and

  • 6. The Use Of Mandatory Continuing Professional Development... The iconic journalist and one of the most trusted figures in American television, Walter Cronkite once said that in seeking the truth, one must get to both sides of the story [1]. It may be philosophically worded perhaps, but it is unequivocally true. As such, the likely introduction of mandatory continuing professional development by the PEO is a thorny topic that must be critically analyzed and scrutinized on both ends of the spectrum. Those in support for continuing professional development argue that practitioners get applicable training on the job and that certain concepts such as ethics simply do not change and thus don't require a statue for mandatory continuing development. However, others have an antipodal perspective, arguing that continuing professional development should be mandatory to prevent loss of knowledge over time and to allow members to keep at pace with the latest practices and procedures of the engineering profession. Perhaps the most convincing argument that those against continuing professional development provide is that engineers get all the adequate skills training on the job. This is most prevalent for new engineering graduates, that can spend up to two years getting trained prior to starting the job. Take for example, Lehigh Hanson Canada – subsidiary of the building materials conglomerate, HeidelbergCement Group. New graduates spend 24 months in a comprehensive program that provides on–the–job as well as formal training [2]. To put in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Professional Military Medical Development Professional military medical development is neither the outcome of a series of courses nor the product of a sequence of military assignments. It is a continual process of self–assessment and development of common goals to achieve progressive outcomes. Reflecting on my experiences, I recall many influential instances in my medical career. In some cases, I did not realize the impact on my development as a leader until months, or even years later. I have had the opportunity in the military to develop a diverse range of career skills and work experience. Upon entering the military, I knew I had one goal, and that was to help Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen. After graduation from residency in 2010, I had many incredible opportunities ... • 8. Personal And Professional Development Paper A personal and professional development plan is used as an instrument for planning a career, establishing career goals, and achieving personal goals. It can also be used to help modify or address areas of improvement by conducting self–assessments for reaching goals. Moreover, it can help an individual create goals and develop action plans for goal attainment. The first steps in creating a personal and professional development plan are to write a personal vision statement, use self–assessment tools to identify character strengths and weaknesses, and research adult development theories. My first goal is to register and complete the five remaining courses to receive my bachelor's degree in management and leadership by August 1, 2017. • 9. Professional Development Essay There are several milestones that our society uses to measure personal development and suitability for advancement to higher degrees of social responsibility. One such milestone is career selection and attainment. Some individuals may never find a satisfying vocation, whereas others know what they desire from the day they can communicate. A simple way to reduce the unfortunate friction of choosing acareer is to be self–aware. Understanding what makes one happy, fulfilled, and the things that are important to them, is the easiest way to narrow down the world's endless possible occupations and ensure job satisfaction. There are many ways to gain personal enlightenment, perhaps the simplest and most effective way is to take a course ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I began to ponder the results and realized that this is the reason for my wide–range of noted talents. Another facet of the results that I would like to mention is the careers of individuals with similar scores/results. Management analysts/consultants, librarians, and pharmacists all have similar scores on the Personal Globe Inventory. The noteworthy aspect of this is that these careers blend together a variety of my strengths in management and analyzing, as well as my desire for order, and my passion for the medical field and helping others. Though I find value in the assessment of oneself, not all tests are equal in evaluation of the individual. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator book exercise and the NEO–PRI, though seemingly valid, did not provide much novel insight into my career development. As a 25 year old young woman on the verge of completing a bachelor's degree, I am very convinced and satisfied with my chosen career path. I have had a good variety of life experience, both professional and personal. This being said, these types of assessments do not provide practical information at this point in my development. Whereas, I am convinced of their legitimacy and usefulness, it appears that this type of evaluation would be more reasonable for someone who is seeking self–awareness, does not have a clear path, or is seeking further exploration into a prospective career to ensure its suitability for their personality and lifestyle. These assessments would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Personal Professional Development Study Rationale This research task is to expand on personal professional development, as it helps to gain a better understanding of the implementation of free–flow play and the positive impacts it could have on the children, staff and the setting. This research will help with the gaining of new study skills, knowledge to improve practice and the way things are seen by using academic journals and books (Sharp, 2009). The gaining of new skills will help in the future as researching skills will become more efficient, saving on time spent seeking for reliable sources. The research task will be carried out as an action research project (Hardy and RГ¶nnerman, 2011) as the use of reflection as a tool to support and develop practice is becoming increasingly ... This is for ethical consideration, as well as making the project as fair as possible. The proposed population group consists of only three children due to the staff to children ratio of one to four. Due to the room size only three members of staff can be in one room. Therefore, to have one child to one keyworker to look at child attachment when playing, it will leave the group with only having three children. The Impact of the IOM Report on Nursing Practice, Specifically in Primary Care Due to the ever–changing requirements of the population, healthcare must undergo an essential change in order to provide "patient–centered care; deliver more primary as opposed to specialty care; deliver more care in the community rather than the acute care setting; provide seamless care; enable all health professionals to practice to the full extent of their education, training, and competencies; and foster inter–professional collaboration" (Future, 2010). Achieving this change will provide better care, lesson medical mistakes, and increase safety. The administration of patient–centered care increases the validity of the nursing profession. Changing Individual Nursing Practice to Meet the Goals of the IOM Report The advancements suggested by the IOM committee attempt to improve the nursing profession in ways that will ensure that nurses are continuing their education, in hopes to stay abreast of the demands of the health care system. Dealing with Time Wasters According to Shafir Ahmed (ezinearticles.com), there are two types of time wasters: internal and external. The internal time wasters are self–generated and easier to control than the external time wasters that other people generate and waste our time. The following are the major sources of internal time wasters: * Lack of planning and prioritising * Lack of proper organisation of the work and the workplace * Procrastination The external time wasters are the following: * Visitors at the workplace * Unnecessary telephone calls and emails Time wasters should be dealt with properly. The internal time wasters can be minimised by having a control upon the way of my performing tasks and organising, prioritising my tasks and setting deadlines. The external time wasters are hard to eliminate but they should be dealt with by developing rules and communicating them to others directly or indirectly, Effective Delegation Delegation of tasks is an ... • 17. Definition Of Planning Professional Development Introduction This paper explores the concept of planning professional development to meet the needs of special education students by examining articles from scholarly journals in the special educational world, psychology in schools, and a case study. Even though teachers are given training on the importance of following a student's Individualized Educational Program (IEP), there seems to be a gap in training when it comes to the level of instruction that special education students actually receive in the classroom. In analyzing the Texas Academic Performance Report for Timber Creek High School, there might be reason to believe that simply following a student's IEP might not be enough to ensure the academic success of special education students as defined by results from the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exam. Far too often, special education students are passed through the system out of fear of litigation yet their test scores reveal that we as educators can and must do better. After reviewing Timber Creek's Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), I became interested in examining theprofessional development opportunities available to educators that focus on how to enhance their current teaching strategies in regards to how they modify their lessons and assignments for their special education students. In my search, it became apparent that beyond initial training or information swapping about the necessary modifications a student needs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is important in order to make CPD an easier task, as there are many different settings that utilise LLL. CPD is vital in the field of adult nursing, as healthcare is frequently being modified and amended. This is due to many factors, such as changes of policies, which results in changes to the way adult nurses care for patients (Narayanasamy and Narayanasamy 2007). The purpose of these policies is to ensure patients are being cared for in a safe environment. Additionally, nurses are required to keep up to date with amended procedures in order to ensure patients are receiving safe and effective treatment (Eason 2010). This is vital in order to ensure patient safety and efficient treatment, not only for the benefit of the patient but also because nurses are responsible for issues arising with a patient's care, and are potentially liable for mistakes arising from incorrect procedure. LLL is also imperative in order to meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), as without which the adult nurse would be removed from the register. However, how individuals network has changed dramatically over the last few years with the inventions of social media sites like LinkedIn and Facebook. This paper will discuss the role of professional networking and how it can assist with career development. Networking Professional networking is about making and maintaining relationships with individuals who could benefit one's career. By talking with individuals, getting to know more about them and their professional position, learning about their jobs and career experiences, and maintaining the relationships are all part of networking (PSU, 2015). There are multiple ways to network; individual face to face communication, through social media sites like LinkedIn and Facebook, or through professional organizations. One type of networking is used to gain information and knowledge about a particular career or job. For a student or someone who is changing career paths, just getting to know an individual in a position that is being sought is networking. Being able to garner information about that person's experiences may be sufficient for the individual to know if that is a career path they want to follow, or conversely, the information gained may be sufficient enough for the individual to know that it is a path they are no longer interested in (PSU, 2015). It incorporates four models of learning: activist, pragmatist, theorist and reflector. These four stages learning cycle shows that experience is transformed through reflection in concept. For solving this problem, a mixture between all these kind of learner can help very well. The first one, activist is where the learner wants to plan how to try a model or theory for the forthcoming experience. Reflection On Professional Development Residency I: Professional development reflection of the advocacy project While society generally views licensed professional counselors as individuals who provide mental health therapy, their role is much broader. Counselors strive to improve the lives of the population they serve through advocating for their profession, identifying unmet needs within their communities, creating solutions to meet these needs, and advocating for social justice. This may be done on the individual, local, state, and national level. Advocacy can include educating the public regarding the counseling profession, creating solutions to unmet needs in their communities, and lobbying for laws that will provide funding and coverage for mental health care. During Residency I, students were given the opportunity to work together with a group of peers to identify an unmet need and collaborate to create a solution. Together they practiced this process and presented it to their peers.
