Strengths And Weaknesses Of Communication
Communication is one of the most important and valuable skills we have developed as human
beings. It is the basis for how we connect with each other globally and shape the people we are
today. Without effective communication, we would not be able to build productive relationships,
express our cultural values, or most importantly, voice our thoughts. As we grow, we learn and
develop our unique form of communication. Whether we are strong public speakers or prefer an
interpersonal approach, it is important to find what type of communication is best suited for us, so
we can appropriately and effectively use communication to our advantage. There are several
different aspects that make us effective communicators, and knowing our strengths and weaknesses
in theses categories will give us a comparative advantage on how to properly communicate on an
interpersonal level. In this paper, I will discover the type of communicator I am, what I am good at,
and what I can work on, to become an excellent interpersonal communicator. Effectiveness is one of
the major key aspects that can distinguish the type of communicator you are. Effectiveness is the
ability to use your communication skills to express your thoughts accurately in an interpersonal
conversation(). I would consider myself to be below average when it comes to being effective in my
communication. I find myself nervous in situation involving more than one person, leaving me for a
lost of words. I begin to feel tense and as if I

Personal Communication Analysis
Personal Communication Analysis
Communication is vital in today's society. The purpose of communication is to relay messages in the
most clear and concise appropriate manner. Transferring data involves both the sender and receiver
of a message. Communication can be misinterpreted, sent with confusion and often misrepresented.
Effective communication is the key to getting messages across and with minimal confusion and
errors.
Today is definitely considered the age of information (also known as the information age).
Communication is widespread and with the rapid and constant advances in technology, people are

I can remember my grandmother always telling me that a person's eyes are the mirrors to their soul.
Body language is 100% visual and says a great deal about a person's personality. I have tendencies
of standing and sitting upright, even when I am alone. My body language usually symbolizes
attentiveness without distractions. Body language also includes the way a person walks, talks and
looks. I am a firm believer of "what you do speaks louder than what you say."
I believe that facial expressions say a great deal about what a person is thinking. Facial expressions
are one of the first emotional expressions seen by someone else. My weakness includes expressing
my emotions and feeling through my facial expressions. I have tried to develop other ways to
express my feelings but have not been very successful. Many expressions can be transferred through
our face such as stress, happiness, nervousness and being afraid. After all, these are the type of
emotions that make us human.
There is always room for improvement in the communication process. Some of the goals for
improvement in this class include working on all weaknesses described in this paper, developing
better interpersonal skills and personal electronic communicational skills. When communicating
with other people, my emotions sometime get the best

Examples Of Interpersonal Communication
Intrapersonal Communication occurs within one's self, often occurring to help one understand ideas
or to get a handle on a situation. At other times, this form of communication is undertaken to in
order to reflect upon thinks like "Life" and "The Future". I believe that self–awareness is the key to
intrapersonal communication. Self– awareness is the foundation of Intrapersonal Communication. It
deals with how a person sees him/herself and how he/she thinks others see them. Your beliefs, goals,
attitude and values all play an influential role in building your self–image. Your perception of right
and wrong, would govern how you view certain situations and your attitude will determine which
topics you think are interesting and which aren't.
An examples of Intrapersonal Communication that I do a lot of is talking to oneself. Well in this
case, myself. When I am reading, studying or listening to something being said, I say the words
aloud, in order to get a good grasp of the information I am am trying to take in. I consider this to be
quite normal, but the extent to which it occurs varies from person to person. Society sees this as a
form of madness and as I said earlier one's self–awareness involves how others see them. So in
order to not be labeled a nut job by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because interpersonal communication is driven by intimacy, communication is greatest when the
relationship exists over a long period of time. Interpersonal communication of not only spoken
word, but non–verbal gestures and actions as well. Often times, a great deal of "inside jokes", (a
joke that is shared exclusively by a small group of people), occur during this type of
communication. The purposes of interpersonal communication are to influence, help and discover,
as well as to share and play

Analysis Of The Movie 'Cast Away'
Communication to a Volley Ball? Imagine you are stranded on an island, all by yourself. You have a
few things left from the plane that crashed you there, but not nothing to help you get off the island.
How are you going to survive? How are you going to stay sane? Well, the movie "Cast Away" gives
us a scenario. Chuck Noland is flying across the ocean to get to work training, unfortunately, the
plane malfunctions and he is stranded on an island with a few FedEx boxes he salvages. He learns
how to deal with being alone, how to hunt for food, and even take care of medical needs. During his
stay on the island, it is interesting to pick out the different forms of communication he develops is
good friend Wilson. The main form of communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chuck is imagining this volley ball to have conversations with him. He uses it to solve problems and
create ideas. It's also nice for the audience, because it helps us know what is going on in his head.
During his Intrapersonal exchanges with the volley ball, you learn more about him, and what he
thinks. Chuck often run ideas across Wilson, and thinks it over. Of course, Wilson only answers in
Chuck's head, so the audience doesn't have any idea what the answer is. But for Chuck, it's enough.
He starts to talk more and more to his friend, and vocalize his thoughts. Which, in reality, isn't that
strange. In Erin Simons's article, she shares different times when others speak aloud, like in the car
when you get cut off. Or when you talk to a sports team on the television. It's a form of expressing
yourself.
Wilson turns out to be his good side of conscious as well, or during his intrapersonal conversations,
he is normally the one to talk Chuck out of negativity. At one point in to movie, Chuk relieves that
he was going to commit suicide because of some of his intrapersonal conversations. "Wilson"
advised him to test it first. Negative intrapersonal communication is a just as powerful as positive, in

Effective Communication in Health Care
Communication is all around us. It's the way we interact with each other in everyday living. Our
senses have a lot to do with the way we receive communication, and even if a sense is impaired
there are still ways to get the idea across to people. If a person can't see they find a way to function
through the day with a Seeing Eye dog or reading with Braille knowledge, and if a person is unable
to hear they are able to function at a very high level through the use of sign language and reading
lips.
Communication in the healthcare field may be a little different for some people. Healthcare requires
the communication to have a purpose, and that purpose is revolved around a person's needs. A

Being short staffed brings a large amount of stress to any area of healthcare; this is commonly when
you will see mistakes happening like, medication errors, and treatments that don't get done. When
these situations occur the communication of the team is more important than ever, and once a
prioritized plan is created each member of the team needs to carefully follow it, and get help and
support when needed.
In closing I feel the communication used in healthcare could be the difference between excellent
customer (patient) service and a negative or fatal outcome due to lack of good communication
between the staff members

Mindfulness : The Religious Ideologies Of The Eastern World
Mindfulness derives from the religious ideologies of the Eastern world, specifically originating from
Buddhism. Mindfulness represents a state of consciousness in which an individual is completely
aware of the present moment. The intense awareness of the present moment allows the individual to
acknowledge the feelings, thoughts, and emotions being experienced in a nonjudgmental manner.
Mindfulness involves cognition about cognition, and the ability to observe thoughts impartially.
However, present moment awareness is a vital component to being mindful. Thoughts about the past
and future will subside. The individual's awareness is on the body, the breath, and thoughts only
pertaining to the present moment. This awareness and attention allows a person to view the world in
a new perspective. Most people constantly and unknowingly think about the past or the future. The
intrapersonal communication we experience changes our perspective of the world because we are
either comparing the present to a situation from the past or we are ignoring the present by
anticipating the future. Practicing mindfulness can enhance interpersonal communication skills in
reference to arguments and problem solving, resulting in stronger interpersonal relationships.
Mindfulness allows a person to be open to new perspectives. Often times when two people engage
in an argument, they only focus on their interpretation of the situation. However, a mindful mindset
leads to openness and the will to

The Importance Of Verbal Communication
Most people event after reading documents will not understand why environmentalists are against
the production of greenhouse gases until someday they are caught in smog in New Delhi Nidia and
have to lose precious leisure or working hours while on a visit.
Verbal communication consists of using the written (texts, and emails) and oral (face–to–face and
phone calls conversations) strategies to convey information. We spend much of our time during the
day chatting or talking in person with colleagues or friends. Consequently, spoken and/or written
communication strategies are the most used communication instrument and most inspiring as well.
Words have no meaning until we give them meaning. Yet after the speaker give it meaning the
listener may still misunderstand the intended meaning of the source. Therefore, it does not suffice to
grasp the attention of the audience. As a speaker, you need to create connections and maintain the
relationship with the audience to the end. Have you ever ask yourself why two people write or make
a presentation on the same topic and one gets more the five million like and two million comments
while the other gets more dislike than like? If you still have problems grasping the attention of your
listers, letting them move along with you then you are in the right place.

Interpersonal Communication Analysis
"To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the
world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others" (Robbins, n.d.).
When talking about context, one of the eight essential components of communication, it must be
understood that the way the message is sent across is heavily influenced by not only the
environment at the time of the communicating, but also the mindset of the audience, or receiver. Not
every single person shares the same outlook or opinion of a given topic, and it is up to the source to
use the context of the communication process to their advantage. To better understand context, there

I no longer have a fear of public speaking thanks to Speech class in high school, and doing it often
in college, I am not the biggest fan of it. I feel more comfortable when it is more along the lines of

Bone Man Human Analysis
MUSIC APPLICATION PAPER Rag'n'Bone Man – Human
Many songs are written and then song by artists every day. On the radio or in the mall, essentially
everywhere. All of which is communication to their audiences. This particular form of
communication is called Mass communication. The book defines this as " when one person issues
the same message to many people at once; the creator of the message is usually not physically
present, and listeners have virtually no opportunity to respond immediately to the speaker. This is
exactly what we find in music produced today and the song I chose called Human by Ragn'n' Bone
Man.

one after another, mayber to represent different walks of life all having this same problem. Then he
says he's only human after all, so not to put the blame on him.
He seems to be using the Attribution theory. Attribution theory is defined as a theory that explains
how you generate explanations for people's behavior. In this case The man attributes the mistakes
that have been made to being human.
Later on in other verses, he shows being other Other–Oriented. And see where others are coming
from and the problems they might have. He says " Some people got the real problems, Some people
out of luck". After that he's says "Some people think I can solve them" followed by a "Lord Heavens
above". This shows he doesn't believe that he can do it and that he can't do everything on his own.
And as human beings, when feeling hopeless we have this innate disposition inside of us to look up
to the sky and ask for God's help. (That doesn't have to do with the song, but it seemed like it fit

The Five Contexts Of Communication
The Five Contexts of Communication
There are 5 contexts of communication, each having varying characteristics and purposes. These
include intrapersonal communication, interpersonal communication, group communication, public
communication, and mass communication. Below, I have given a brief description of each along
with an example or illustration. Finally, I have included my own personal preferences in the
different contexts.
Intrapersonal communication is really the conversations you have with yourself. These are
communications that occur as a response to the current situation. One day, I was in a huge hurry to
get to work and I happened to run into my co–worker on the way in. She said she was up so late
working on her project, she barely slept. At the mention of her project, I thought "Did I finish the
assignment that was due last night? Oh no! I got home so late from work that I forgot!" Her mention
of her responsibility made me think of my own and remember what I had forgotten. The way you
carry out internal conversation is actually a result of your background, and/or culture. The things
that you grew up observing from your family, friends, or neighbors will influence you, just like
language (McLean, 2010).
Interpersonal communication is usually a conversation or discussion between two people, either
informal or formal. I recently reached my one–year mark where I work. When that happened, I had

Communication is a two–way activity between two or more people and occurs through various
modes, some of which are used more commonly in some workplaces than others. Communication
requires that all parties understand a common language that is exchanged with each other. Business
Communication is communication used to promote a product, service, or organization. The business
communication message is conveyed through various channels of communication, including the
internet, print, radio, television, outdoor, and word of mouth. Business communication helps to
bridge the gap between planning and execution. Efficient communication matters because business
organizations are made up of people and also effective communication within organisation or
outside the organisation increase the image as well as goodwill of the organisation in the mind of
business partner, employees and consumer. Various research studies have been conducted on this
subject and each study has consistently ranked communication skills as crucial for managers.
Typically, managers spend 75 to 80 percent of their time engaged in some form of written or oral
communication. Business wants and need people with good communication skills. Although often
termed a "soft" skill, communication in a business organization provides the critical link between
core functions.

Self–reflection using the Medicine Wheel: Impact of Self Care on Communication
The understanding of who I am and how that impacts those I connect with is a requirement in
building successful relationships with individuals. Today, it has been proven by scholars that
intrapersonal communication has a major influence on interpersonal communication; therefore,
knowledge of self is very important when we communicate with the outside world (Mruk, 2013).
Intrapersonal communication is the communication within oneself (Beebe et al., 2011). Self–
awareness is a major aspect of this type of communication as it influences personal growth and
development. That is why the medicine wheel's model is a powerful tool in increasing self–

Communication And Intrapersonal Communication
Suppose you were sent to give a talk to a crowd composed of pupils of an elementary school and
university students. Or, as a communicator, how will you conduct, an awareness campaign in a
marketplace? How will you negotiate for funding as an entrepreneur? How do you ensure the
objective is attained? No doubt the linguistic context can be adjusted. However, will this guarantee
effective communication? No! Remember communication is a dynamic activity that involves
understanding and sharing meaning (McLean, 2010). Meaning depending on the circumstance the
content can be tailor given the context. Communicating in context can take the form of
intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, public, or mass communication. We shall proceed by looking at
them starting with intrapersonal communication.
Intrapersonal communication: Analysis of a situation takes place in the background. That is in the
mind. For example, as I observe and wait for my turn to deliver my first lesson, I became so
nervous. Observing other students deliver their lesson had created a mental picture of the scene and
ignited the process of self–concept. As I ponder over this imaginary image I could hear this voice
persistently asking, how do I start, or will I do better? This personal cross–examination or self–talk
that plunge you into an abstract world or into a state of absent–mindedness is referred to as
intrapersonal communication and can be incited by culture, emotion, or circumstance. We are able to

Importance Of Positive Intrapersonal Communication
Self–Assessment Assignment I believe that I am most likely to participate in positive intrapersonal
communication. My upbringing mainly consisted of always finding the positive things in my life
and trying to block out the negative thoughts and actions. The main proprietor of this style of self–
talk was my mother. As she demonstrated the way to go about life in a positive manner, I had tried
to mimic what she had done. For example, when I started playing golf, I was not as good as I had
expected myself to be. I got down on myself quite frequently and eventually thought about quitting.
Then, my mother started to assist and enhance my self–talk by enforcing the idea of constant
positivity even in tough situations. That has led me to become who I am today by teaching younger
kids and even those older than me to be optimistic and discover the goodness in golf, all the while
reinforcing the idea of positive intrapersonal communication.
Now I know that when I am having negative self–communication, I can either use my thoughts to
portray them in which the way that I am feeling in that moment or keep my personal image by
putting bad thoughts aside and acting like my casual self. For instance, when I was playing in a golf
tournament a couple of months ago, I missed a 6–foot putt to win a tournament. In my head, I wasn't
very pleased with what the outcome came to be, I was a little furious, but not enough to snap my
putter in half. I began to think to myself, "What

Short Speech By Charles Fernyhough
The article begins with the author's wife noticing and pointing out that he looks like he is talking to
his yogurt, but in actuality, she has just caught him talking to himself again. He clarifies that he was
simply thinking of a possible conversation between him and one of his colleagues. Just in case the
colleague had any questions about the data of the experiment they did, he would already have a
composed and well thought out answer. He further confessed that he has discussions with himself all
the time –and it isn't always about work. He tells jokes, conversates with family members, and
replays dialogue from the past. The author's wife however, hardly ever has conversations with
herself.
Verbal rehearsal of material, like reciting your grocery list to yourself, is an essential part of the
working memory system, but for certain individuals, talking to one's self goes much further: it is an
essential part of the way some people think. Durham University's british professor of Psychology,
Charles Fernyhough, studies "inner speech" and identifies himself as a self speaker. He even recalls
a time of self consciousness when he was caught laughing out loud to a voice in his head. He claims
that his voices even have different accents and pitches. Fernyhough bases his research on his theory
that talking to yourself and hearing voices have a deeper function and he even has a book out to
explain his case.
While discussing experimental work on voice hearing, Fernyhough begins to

Types of Communication
The word communication is taken from the word communicate which is also taken from the word

Communication is the process of imparting or interchanging of thoughts and opinions by speech,

One way to combat the potential destructive consequences of the inaccurate information is to take
the time to listen to the grapevine instead of ignoring it. Once managers are aware of the content of
the grapevine, they can head off potential problems by manipulating further grapevine
communications by injecting factual information into the pipeline. This actually serves a dual
purpose.
Bypass communication usually takes the form of grapevine communication but is usually used to
spread news of importance among many senders and receivers. The information passed on are
usually true even if distorted or exaggerated somehow. An example of such communication is the
news of death in regards to a well known figure or untimely tragedies. Bypass may be interrupted at
any point of the process since there is no guarantee the news must be passed on. Bypass
communication may be limited to only one community or spread among many over a large
geographical area. This communication is usually done by passing on information in circumstances
realized to the sender or unaware to the sender. Example telling a story of great importance in a
public– transport(Example–bus). The sender may only be aware of the receiver the information is
being directed to, yet the information may be passed on to unsuspecting or unintended listeners who
in return becomes senders of the messages later in the process.

The Medicine Wheel Reflection
The medicine wheel acts as a reflection as to how one views the world. It takes a look at the
physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual aspects belonging to a person. (Mussel, 2005, p. 115)
By reflecting on each aspect of the medicine wheel and going more in depth, I will be able to move
towards self–awareness and will be better able to understand myself and the way I view and act on
upon the world. Ultimately, this will benefit my intrapersonal, interpersonal, and intra–professional
communication. Beginning with the physical aspect of the medicine wheel, I will reflect how the
necessary elements to life are used in my day–to–day living. Air and more specifically oxygen are
crucial for cellular function in regards to energy metabolism and elimination of toxic materials and,
therefore, is needed for the human body to live. ("Why do we need oygen?", 2016) I recruited my
partner who is a paramedic to obtain my respiration rate, at rest I inhale and exhale twelve times per
minute at rest and twenty breaths per minute after running for ten minutes. The respiration rate is the
amount of oxygen my body requires at various stages of activity. When at rest my body does not
require as much oxygen as when my body is active. I consider myself a relatively active person; by
my physical body having the ability to take in more or less oxygen I am able to live the active
lifestyle I value. Without oxygen I would not live, let alone accomplish many of the activities I
enjoy doing

What Are The Five Contexts Of Communication
Five Contexts of Communication
Jonathan M. McPheters
University of the People Five Contexts of Communication In class this week, we learned about the
five contexts of communication. I was aware of these types of communications, but it is interesting
to read a little bit about how these types of communication exist and how they play into an everyday
situation. In this essay, I will discuss and argue in my own words how each one of these exists,
along with how and when they effect a group or an individual and I will share a personal experience
regarding group communication. What if you were talking about private medical information to an
individual and there were other people in the room? What if there was people in the room that were
not privy to the information that you are about to release? You would want to make sure that you use
the proper method of communication; interpersonal communication. If you were a person that was

Group communication is not like the last two, simply because instead of talking to one or two
people, you are now discussing a topic with a small to large "group" of people. This is a
conversation between people, and this allows for group think, group share, and also allow for the
exchange of knowledge. Moreover, each person can have some time to control the conversation or
control the room.
The last two forms of communication are public and mass communication. These two have some
similarities, as that they are both addressing a large number of people, but they are different because
in public communication, this is a meeting amongst people under the same purpose, or a speaker of
an event will speak with limited to no interruption. In mass communication, this is like watching the
news, or writing a press release to a group of constituents, or moreover a nation or possibly the
world. You are reaching a large number of people that you need to convey information

The Mass Media, What Is Mass Media?
What is Mass Media?
So, what is Mass media? Mass media is communication that is to a large group, or groups, of people
in a short time (Mass Media, 2013, p.1). This can be written, spoken or broadcast communication.
Some of the most popular forms of mass media are newspapers, magazines, radio, advertisements,
social media, television, Internet, and films/movies. Mass communication refers to the technology
that is used to communicate to a large group, or groups of people in a short time frame (Pavlik &
McIntosh, 2004, p. 22). There are other forms of communication. Interpersonal communication is
kind of how it sounds. It's more personal and is usually face–to–face between two or more people
(Interpersonal Communication Skills, 2013, p.1). Now, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Have you ever gone back and forth with yourself to justify why you could eat the last piece of cake

intrapersonal communication. Being able to reach a large amount of people in a short amount of
time is valued especially in society, politics and commerce, and it's controlled by corporations
(Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, 2013, p. 1). The mass–media industry "employs professionals to
conceive, produce, promote, and deliver communication products that are specifically designed to
meet the goal of attracting large audiences" (p. 1). These products "may be sold as objects (such as
books or digital videodiscs [DVDs]), exhibited for the price of a ticket or subscription (such as
movies shown in cinemas or on premium or pay–for–view cable TV channels), or offered at no cash
cost to consumers so as to create an audience for paid advertising (such as commercial television or
radio broadcasts)" (p. 1). "Some of the mass media use combinations of these funding sources; for

Communication, What Is It?
Communication, what is it?
Transferring a message from a sender to a receiver is defined as communication.
To ensure good communication, messages need to be conveyed accurately by the sender and
understood by the receiver. Thinking about the different ways we communicate with others. We
don't just use our words (verbal– speaking and writing); we also communicate nonverbally using our
bodies as well as graphically using images (Dwyer 2012). The ability to communicate is reflected by
the quality and range of each individual's communications skills (Dwyer 2012 p.4).
However, if there are interferences, either from external influences or internal distractions, the
meanings of the messages can be lost or distorted. This can therefore cause inaccurate responses,
decoding, that we hope to avoid.
For me in my work place, communication is very important. As a leader working within a team,
communication between team members is important to ensure that the intended outcomes are
achieved. In addition to communicating to work colleagues, communication to external parties
occurs multiple times a day.
Professional communication requires me to use formal language verbal and nonverbal. Within my
role in the company I work for, I not only am working at the "back of house" but also at the front–
face of the company. This therefore means that clients consider myself as well as my team to be
representatives for the company, meaning that how we present ourselves as well as communicate is

The Strengths and Weaknesses Within My Medicine Wheel Essay
Introduction
In Aboriginal teachings, the medicine wheel is sacred because it represents the various components
of a healthy, well–rounded individual. Like wellness, the medicine wheel represents an "active state
of health in which an individual progresses toward a higher level of functioning, thus achieving an
optimum balance" (as cited in Fain & Lewis, 2002, p. 7). The medicine wheel is divided into four
major sections, each representing a major part of a person (physical, emotional, mental, and
spiritual). In order to achieve balance in one's life, one must analyze each of these components, and
work to improve communications within one's self. Intrapersonal communication is vital to the
development of self–concept and self–esteem, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for exercise, I would say that I am fairly active. My greatest weakness is my lack of motivation
to be active when I am busy with school, work, and social aspects of my life. I also feel that my
nutrition could be improved. I eat fairly healthy, but when I get busy with school I tend to eat
whatever foods are quick and easy.
With respect to intrapersonal communication, I find that my biggest setback in this category is
comparing my physical appearance to others, which often creates a negative self–image. I have not
yet progressed to the point in which I am pleased with my physical presence, but I would like to do
so by eating a balanced diet and becoming more physically active. I value keeping physically fit and
good nutrition because both help to maintain healthy muscles, bones, lungs, and heart. I feel that I
am a very capable individual, and I would like to push myself to my physical limits.
My negative intrapersonal communication affects my judgement of other people, which impacts my
interpersonal communication. I feel that sometimes I judge other people based on how they look,
and use these judgements to decide if I want to associate with them. Often I avoid talking to people
based on how they look because I convince myself that they probably have a certain personality.
Lots of times these stereotypical views turn out to be wrong, and I find myself surprised. I need

The Five Contexts Of Communication
The Five Contexts of Communication: From Self–talk to the Masses
Communication vital to human existence. Not only do we as humans have a need for
communication, but all living things communicate in some form or fashion. For every living thing,
communication is survival. It could even be said that communication is what makes the world go
round to cite the old idiom (with some creative license). In this paper, we will be going over the five
contexts of communication that is found in chapter one of
"Business Communication for Success" (McLean, 2010) which include: intrapersonal
communication, interpersonal communication, group communication, public communication, and
mass communication. As we go through this information, keep in mind the statements above and
ponder what they mean and how they relate.
Intrapersonal Communication
Intrapersonal communication is one of the foundational cornerstones in communication. In this
context, when you are in the act of communicating intrapersonally, you are actually engaged in self
talk, or speaking with yourself.
This engagement takes place in the brain, although some may share their intrapersonal
communication sometimes
(have you ever had anyone say "I was talking to myself" after you respond to a statement or
question your heard from them?). The fact of this kind of communication is that if you can't
communicate with yourself effectively, you will fail to communicate with anyone else likewise.
Psychology and nuroscience professor, Rick Hoyle, of
Duke University shares that intrapersonal skills support our will or how we choose to behave.
Further Hoyle described it as a kind of mechanism inside us that helps an individual complete goals
they set for themselves through discretionary behavior (Hoyle and Davisson, 2011). It is plain to see
why skills in intrapersonal communication are elementary to further communication.
Interpersonal Communication
Another fundamental communicative context that is critical to survival is that of interpersonal
communication.
This kind of communication is existent when it is had between to entities such as friends, family
members, and other like relationships. It is in essence the ability to communicate your bridled and
conditioned intrapersonal"

My sister and I are very close and we usually are using the interpersonal

Group communication is when a small group have a conversation all together. It can be a
conversation among
friends or in a class room with your classmates. A group communication can be at a meeting at work
as well, or
even having a conversation with some co–workers. For example, sitting with your friends and
making plans to go

the office and just

I 'm usually around people and be using the group communication.
Public communication is when one person speaks to a group of people. For example if we in a
meeting the
supervisor is the one who is doing the public communication. Public communication can also be
when someone
writes a message to a group of people. The person either speaking or writing back would be the
public
communicator. In a public speaking situation, the group normally defers to the speaker. For
example, the boss

Interpersonal communication is defined by communication scholars in numerous ways, though most
definitions involve participants who are interdependent on one another, have a shared history.
Communication channels are the medium chosen to convey the message from sender to receiver.
Communication channels can be categorized into two main categories: Direct and Indirect channels
of communication.
Channels means mode of communicating the messages.
Initiating: Declaring one's conversational intent and inviting consent from one's prospective

Turn–taking: Managing the flow of information back and forth between partners in a conversation
by alternating roles of speaker and listener
Interpersonal communication is the subject of a number of disciplines in the field of psychology,
notably Transactional analysis.

are between 3 and 12 individuals. Small group communication generally takes place in a context
that mixes interpersonal communication interactions with social clustering.

What Is The Importance Of Communication In Nursing
In this paper, I will discuss a nursing situation which I witnessed, which emphasized the significance
of communication and understanding opposing perspectives for developing a therapeutic
relationship between the nurse and the family (See Appendix).
The scenario can be dissected at three different levels of inquiry: intrapersonal, interpersonal and
contextual level. Understanding different range of perspectives can assist in creating a holistic care
plan for the patient. At an intrapersonal level, one begins to communicate within themselves (Kozier
et al., 2017). From the nurse's point of view, they acknowledge the client's inability to speak English
and the need for an interpreter. At the same time, they know that they must assess for signs of
inflammation and pain prior to applying medications. Proximally viewing the situation, the nurse
feels the need to complete an assessment for the comfort of the client and to fulfill their task.
However, as the interpreter walks into the scene and stops the nurse, the nurse may feel accused and
decides to change their priority to solve the miscommunication in order to provide safe care to the
client.
On the other hand, at an intrapersonal level from the client's family's perspective, the family may
feel frustrated at the nurse due to their obligation to protect the patient and to speak for the patient
due to the language barrier. As Kozier et al. (2017) state family members may feel compelled to be

with practical examples from everyday life. Word count: 1588 Humans by nature, as suggested by
Aronson, are a highly socialable species and care a lot about what others think of them. This has
lead to the existence of a belief in public appearance or the sub–conscious development of self
presentation. This is the foundation for Goffman's dramaturgical analysis. "All the world's a stage,

This attitude would create an uncomfortable atmosphere among friends and family and so actors
must be able to integrate their roles to fit in with circumstances and this may lead to certain masks
being put up or taken off. Controlling performances both verbally and nonverbally can sway the
audience into believing the actors view of a situation. Goffman's concept of performance has two
dimensions; for the most part the performance given is not one of deception but of truth and
sincerity. "One finds that the performer can be fully taken in by his own act: he can be sincerely
convinced that the impression of reality he stages is the real reality." (Goffman 1959) This leads the
author to believe that this is true for most of society, for the way in which people present themselves
through their beliefs, actions and demeanour is who they believe they are. Secondly Goffman
discusses the belief in a "cynical" performance in which an individual has no faith in their
performance and no concern with the inclination of the audience, the performance is based on
deception. A prime example of this is the salesperson that convinces a consumer to buy a defective
or below average product to increase his sales figures. However in any performance given,

The Five Contexts Of Communication
The Five Contexts of Communication
When referencing communication, Saylor's textbook Business Communications for
Success lists the following five contexts or types of communication: intrapersonal, interpersonal,
group, public, and mass communication. Each of these different forms of communication may mean
very different things, but they all have the same end result – to get a message from a source to a
receiver. No matter where it's going or who it is coming from, a message is a message, any way you
look at it. Each form of communication is experienced everyday all around the world.
Interpersonal communication is probably the most common form of communication. It is
experienced most days of our lives when we go out with friends, speak to our significant others, or
even meet with a tutor. Interpersonal communication is simply speaking to one other person besides
yourself. Talking on the phone, sending an individual email, or even a text message can all be forms
of interpersonal communication as well.
Intrapersonal communication is a big one as well. The concept of intrapersonal communication is
when you are talking to yourself. When you are asking yourself how a first date went, and then
answering yourself. No, you are not crazy; everyone does it! Other forms of intrapersonal
communication could also be reciting lines to a play in your head, going over your answers to a test
with yourself, or preplanning a conversation with a friend.

BUS 1105 – AY2018–T2
Abstract
This essay is about communication context. Communication context applies to a variety of different
scenarios but includes mass communication, public communication, interpersonal, intrapersonal and
group communication. Communication also applies to the surroundings that are chosen for
presentation and how those surroundings affect your communication to your audience.
Mass Communication
Mass communication is single communication with a large group or audience conveyed usually
through media. It is found in a forum that could be coming through some organized media
distribution such as television or social media, i.e., Facebook, Twitter or even a company's email.
Mass communication is not necessarily governed by one–on–one responses but is used as a tool to
share important information, functional necessities such as meeting times or updates or even to
convey such events as parties on a social level. Mass communication can be highly effective but,
again, there may or not be the response necessary to confirm receipt or ensure that the information
has been disseminated as the speaker has chosen.
Public Communication
Public communication differs from mass communication in that it caters to a large audience which
will probably be found in an auditorium for an event such as a speech. Public communication also
differs in that the primary speaker has the responsibility to ensure that they

2007). These five key arguments each have their own influences on how humans communicate with
each other in different ways.
1.1. Communication is not innocent
Speaking from person to person gives different responses. Humans are all raised differently, with
different influences, moral values and each with different thought processes which makes each

Intrapersonal Communication
It is talking to yourself. This self–talk is influenced by your culture, native language and your world

Among five contexts of communication, the Intrapersonal Communication appeals the most to me
since I do it all the time and every day. This type of communication does not involve other people,
therefore, it puts the least stress on me. Intrapersonal Communication process helped me to develop
my analytical and critical thinking skills, it assisted me to organize my thoughts as well.

energy to deal with the requirements as a public speaker. However, the public communication skills

the person they want to send a message to. Then, they have to evaluate what their current situation
is, and what channel they would like to use to send their message. As they begin to start their
message they need to figure out what kind of words and behaviors they will use to properly execute
their message making. Towards the end of the process they need to look at their choices and what is
being impacted culturally, once that is done, the sender may then send the message, causing the

2). There are three aspect of intrapersonal communication. "Self–concept is the basis for
intrapersonal communication because it determines how a persona sees him/herself and is oriented
toward others. Self–Concepts (also called self–awareness) involves three factors: beliefs, values and
attitudes." (Intrapersonal and Interpersonal" p. 2). Beliefs we base upon our religion, our upbringing

have been instilled inside of us and we base right and wrong not only on values but beliefs as well.
Attitudes are how we view a particular topic and/or person and they way we feel about a topic is the
way we present ourselves and our attitude. "Other things that can affect self–concept are personal
attributes, talents, social role, even birth order/" (Intrapersonal and Interpersonal" p. 2). Self–concept
looks inward into a person. The next aspect looks outward and this is called perception. "Perception

The Field Of Pharmacy Is A Growing Problem
The field of pharmacy is a growing, but at the same time stagnant. It is growing because it is
changing as the healthcare system is changing. After the changes in the healthcare system, the field
has included pharmaceutical care in its mission. As described in Communications Skills for
Pharmacist book, "pharmaceutical care requires the pharmacist to take responsibility for preventing
and solving drug– related problems and optimizing drug therapy" (p.1, CP). On the other hand it is
stagnant because the mission is not being fulfilled. The traditional way of practicing, which is
dispensing drugs only, still persists.
The pharmacy is being practiced in an unethical way as the patient is told to sign the paper, without
being informed what rights the patient is losing. Presently, there is a need of pharmacists in the
healthcare system, since they have the knowledge of drug interaction. But there might be a reduction
in need because the healthcare wants something more than just dispensing medications. The need for
pharmacist will only be understood, when the people know what to expect from pharmacists. If the
patients understand that the pharmacist can provide them counseling, then they will approach the
pharmacist. Some pharmacists want to fulfill the pharmaceutical care mission, but the authority puts
restrictions and also the pharmacist is not compensated for the work. Consequently, as the authority
is not willing to cooperate, the improvement in the role is difficult.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Communication

  • 1. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Communication Communication is one of the most important and valuable skills we have developed as human beings. It is the basis for how we connect with each other globally and shape the people we are today. Without effective communication, we would not be able to build productive relationships, express our cultural values, or most importantly, voice our thoughts. As we grow, we learn and develop our unique form of communication. Whether we are strong public speakers or prefer an interpersonal approach, it is important to find what type of communication is best suited for us, so we can appropriately and effectively use communication to our advantage. There are several different aspects that make us effective communicators, and knowing our strengths and weaknesses in theses categories will give us a comparative advantage on how to properly communicate on an interpersonal level. In this paper, I will discover the type of communicator I am, what I am good at, and what I can work on, to become an excellent interpersonal communicator. Effectiveness is one of the major key aspects that can distinguish the type of communicator you are. Effectiveness is the ability to use your communication skills to express your thoughts accurately in an interpersonal conversation(). I would consider myself to be below average when it comes to being effective in my communication. I find myself nervous in situation involving more than one person, leaving me for a lost of words. • 3. Personal Communication Analysis Personal Communication Analysis Communication is vital in today's society. The purpose of communication is to relay messages in the most clear and concise appropriate manner. Transferring data involves both the sender and receiver of a message. Communication can be misinterpreted, sent with confusion and often misrepresented. Effective communication is the key to getting messages across and with minimal confusion and errors. Today is definitely considered the age of information (also known as the information age). Communication is widespread and with the rapid and constant advances in technology, people are communication more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I can remember my grandmother always telling me that a person's eyes are the mirrors to their soul. Body language is 100% visual and says a great deal about a person's personality. I have tendencies of standing and sitting upright, even when I am alone. My body language usually symbolizes attentiveness without distractions. Body language also includes the way a person walks, talks and looks. I am a firm believer of "what you do speaks louder than what you say." I believe that facial expressions say a great deal about what a person is thinking. Facial expressions are one of the first emotional expressions seen by someone else. My weakness includes expressing my emotions and feeling through my facial expressions. I have tried to develop other ways to express my feelings but have not been very successful. Many expressions can be transferred through our face such as stress, happiness, nervousness and being afraid. After all, these are the type of emotions that make us human. There is always room for improvement in the communication process. Some of the goals for improvement in this class include working on all weaknesses described in this paper, developing better interpersonal skills and personal electronic communicational skills. • 5. Examples Of Interpersonal Communication Intrapersonal Communication occurs within one's self, often occurring to help one understand ideas or to get a handle on a situation. At other times, this form of communication is undertaken to in order to reflect upon thinks like "Life" and "The Future". I believe that self–awareness is the key to intrapersonal communication. Self– awareness is the foundation of Intrapersonal Communication. It deals with how a person sees him/herself and how he/she thinks others see them. Your beliefs, goals, attitude and values all play an influential role in building your self–image. Your perception of right and wrong, would govern how you view certain situations and your attitude will determine which topics you think are interesting and which aren't. An examples of Intrapersonal Communication that I do a lot of is talking to oneself. Well in this case, myself. When I am reading, studying or listening to something being said, I say the words aloud, in order to get a good grasp of the information I am am trying to take in. I consider this to be quite normal, but the extent to which it occurs varies from person to person. Society sees this as a form of madness and as I said earlier one's self–awareness involves how others see them. So in order to not be labeled a nut job by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because interpersonal communication is driven by intimacy, communication is greatest when the relationship exists over a long period of time. • 7. Analysis Of The Movie 'Cast Away' Communication to a Volley Ball? Imagine you are stranded on an island, all by yourself. You have a few things left from the plane that crashed you there, but not nothing to help you get off the island. How are you going to survive? How are you going to stay sane? Well, the movie "Cast Away" gives us a scenario. Chuck Noland is flying across the ocean to get to work training, unfortunately, the plane malfunctions and he is stranded on an island with a few FedEx boxes he salvages. He learns how to deal with being alone, how to hunt for food, and even take care of medical needs. During his stay on the island, it is interesting to pick out the different forms of communication he develops is good friend Wilson. The main form of communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chuck is imagining this volley ball to have conversations with him. He uses it to solve problems and create ideas. It's also nice for the audience, because it helps us know what is going on in his head. During his Intrapersonal exchanges with the volley ball, you learn more about him, and what he thinks. Chuck often run ideas across Wilson, and thinks it over. Of course, Wilson only answers in Chuck's head, so the audience doesn't have any idea what the answer is. But for Chuck, it's enough. He starts to talk more and more to his friend, and vocalize his thoughts. Which, in reality, isn't that strange. In Erin Simons's article, she shares different times when others speak aloud, like in the car when you get cut off. Or when you talk to a sports team on the television. It's a form of expressing yourself. Wilson turns out to be his good side of conscious as well, or during his intrapersonal conversations, he is normally the one to talk Chuck out of negativity. At one point in to movie, Chuk relieves that he was going to commit suicide because of some of his intrapersonal conversations. "Wilson" advised him to test it first. Negative intrapersonal communication is a just as powerful as positive, in Intro to Communication Theory book, it explains that during these conversations we have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Effective Communication in Health Care Communication is all around us. It's the way we interact with each other in everyday living. Our senses have a lot to do with the way we receive communication, and even if a sense is impaired there are still ways to get the idea across to people. If a person can't see they find a way to function through the day with a Seeing Eye dog or reading with Braille knowledge, and if a person is unable to hear they are able to function at a very high level through the use of sign language and reading lips. Being short staffed brings a large amount of stress to any area of healthcare; this is commonly when you will see mistakes happening like, medication errors, and treatments that don't get done. When these situations occur the communication of the team is more important than ever, and once a prioritized plan is created each member of the team needs to carefully follow it, and get help and support when needed. • 11. Mindfulness : The Religious Ideologies Of The Eastern World Mindfulness derives from the religious ideologies of the Eastern world, specifically originating from Buddhism. Mindfulness represents a state of consciousness in which an individual is completely aware of the present moment. The intense awareness of the present moment allows the individual to acknowledge the feelings, thoughts, and emotions being experienced in a nonjudgmental manner. Mindfulness involves cognition about cognition, and the ability to observe thoughts impartially. However, present moment awareness is a vital component to being mindful. Thoughts about the past and future will subside. The individual's awareness is on the body, the breath, and thoughts only pertaining to the present moment. This awareness and attention allows a person to view the world in a new perspective. Most people constantly and unknowingly think about the past or the future. The intrapersonal communication we experience changes our perspective of the world because we are either comparing the present to a situation from the past or we are ignoring the present by anticipating the future. Practicing mindfulness can enhance interpersonal communication skills in reference to arguments and problem solving, resulting in stronger interpersonal relationships. Mindfulness allows a person to be open to new perspectives. Often times when two people engage in an argument, they only focus on their interpretation of the situation. However, a mindful mindset leads to openness and the will to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Importance Of Verbal Communication Most people event after reading documents will not understand why environmentalists are against the production of greenhouse gases until someday they are caught in smog in New Delhi Nidia and have to lose precious leisure or working hours while on a visit. Verbal communication consists of using the written (texts, and emails) and oral (face–to–face and phone calls conversations) strategies to convey information. We spend much of our time during the day chatting or talking in person with colleagues or friends. Consequently, spoken and/or written communication strategies are the most used communication instrument and most inspiring as well. Words have no meaning until we give them meaning. Yet after the speaker give it meaning the listener may still misunderstand the intended meaning of the source. Therefore, it does not suffice to grasp the attention of the audience. As a speaker, you need to create connections and maintain the relationship with the audience to the end. Have you ever ask yourself why two people write or make a presentation on the same topic and one gets more the five million like and two million comments while the other gets more dislike than like? If you still have problems grasping the attention of your listers, letting them move along with you then you are in the right place. Visual communication Why is it that when we watch movies or listen to a presentation made using PowerPoint, charts or other forms of visual support we tend to grasp more than ... Interpersonal Communication Analysis "To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others" (Robbins, n.d.). When talking about context, one of the eight essential components of communication, it must be understood that the way the message is sent across is heavily influenced by not only the environment at the time of the communicating, but also the mindset of the audience, or receiver. Although I no longer have a fear of public speaking thanks to Speech class in high school, and doing it often in college, I am not the biggest fan of it. This is exactly what we find in music produced today and the song I chose called Human by Ragn'n' Bone Man. • 23. The Five Contexts Of Communication The Five Contexts of Communication There are 5 contexts of communication, each having varying characteristics and purposes. These include intrapersonal communication, interpersonal communication, group communication, public communication, and mass communication. Below, I have given a brief description of each along with an example or illustration. Finally, I have included my own personal preferences in the different contexts. Intrapersonal communication is really the conversations you have with yourself. These are communications that occur as a response to the current situation. One day, I was in a huge hurry to get to work and I happened to run into my co–worker on the way in. She said she was up so late working on her project, she barely slept. At the mention of her project, I thought "Did I finish the assignment that was due last night? Oh no! I got home so late from work that I forgot!" Her mention of her responsibility made me think of my own and remember what I had forgotten. The way you carry out internal conversation is actually a result of your background, and/or culture. The things that you grew up observing from your family, friends, or neighbors will influence you, just like language (McLean, 2010). Interpersonal communication is usually a conversation or discussion between two people, either informal or formal. I recently reached my one–year mark where I work. Intrapersonal communication is the communication within oneself (Beebe et al., 2011). Self– awareness is a major aspect of this type of communication as it influences personal growth and development. Or, as a communicator, how will you conduct, an awareness campaign in a marketplace? How will you negotiate for funding as an entrepreneur? How do you ensure the objective is attained? No doubt the linguistic context can be adjusted. However, will this guarantee effective communication? No! Remember communication is a dynamic activity that involves understanding and sharing meaning (McLean, 2010). Meaning depending on the circumstance the content can be tailor given the context. Communicating in context can take the form of intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, public, or mass communication. We shall proceed by looking at them starting with intrapersonal communication. Intrapersonal communication: Analysis of a situation takes place in the background. That is in the mind. For example, as I observe and wait for my turn to deliver my first lesson, I became so nervous. Observing other students deliver their lesson had created a mental picture of the scene and ignited the process of self–concept. As I ponder over this imaginary image I could hear this voice persistently asking, how do I start, or will I do better? This personal cross–examination or self–talk that plunge you into an abstract world or into a state of absent–mindedness is referred to as intrapersonal communication and can be incited by culture, emotion, or circumstance. • 32. Importance Of Positive Intrapersonal Communication Self–Assessment Assignment I believe that I am most likely to participate in positive intrapersonal communication. My upbringing mainly consisted of always finding the positive things in my life and trying to block out the negative thoughts and actions. The main proprietor of this style of self– talk was my mother. As she demonstrated the way to go about life in a positive manner, I had tried to mimic what she had done. For example, when I started playing golf, I was not as good as I had expected myself to be. I got down on myself quite frequently and eventually thought about quitting. Then, my mother started to assist and enhance my self–talk by enforcing the idea of constant positivity even in tough situations. That has led me to become who I am today by teaching younger kids and even those older than me to be optimistic and discover the goodness in golf, all the while reinforcing the idea of positive intrapersonal communication. Now I know that when I am having negative self–communication, I can either use my thoughts to portray them in which the way that I am feeling in that moment or keep my personal image by putting bad thoughts aside and acting like my casual self. For instance, when I was playing in a golf tournament a couple of months ago, I missed a 6–foot putt to win a tournament. In my head, I wasn't very pleased with what the outcome came to be, I was a little furious, but not enough to snap my putter in half. I began to think to myself, "What ... • 36. Short Speech By Charles Fernyhough The article begins with the author's wife noticing and pointing out that he looks like he is talking to his yogurt, but in actuality, she has just caught him talking to himself again. He clarifies that he was simply thinking of a possible conversation between him and one of his colleagues. Just in case the colleague had any questions about the data of the experiment they did, he would already have a composed and well thought out answer. He further confessed that he has discussions with himself all the time –and it isn't always about work. He tells jokes, conversates with family members, and replays dialogue from the past. The author's wife however, hardly ever has conversations with herself. Verbal rehearsal of material, like reciting your grocery list to yourself, is an essential part of the working memory system, but for certain individuals, talking to one's self goes much further: it is an essential part of the way some people think. Durham University's british professor of Psychology, Charles Fernyhough, studies "inner speech" and identifies himself as a self speaker. He even recalls a time of self consciousness when he was caught laughing out loud to a voice in his head. He claims that his voices even have different accents and pitches. Fernyhough bases his research on his theory that talking to yourself and hearing voices have a deeper function and he even has a book out to explain his case. This actually serves a dual purpose. Bypass communication usually takes the form of grapevine communication but is usually used to spread news of importance among many senders and receivers. The information passed on are usually true even if distorted or exaggerated somehow. An example of such communication is the news of death in regards to a well known figure or untimely tragedies. Bypass communication may be limited to only one community or spread among many over a large geographical area. Ultimately, this will benefit my intrapersonal, interpersonal, and intra–professional communication. Air and more specifically oxygen are crucial for cellular function in regards to energy metabolism and elimination of toxic materials and, therefore, is needed for the human body to live. The respiration rate is the amount of oxygen my body requires at various stages of activity. When at rest my body does not require as much oxygen as when my body is active. Moreover, each person can have some time to control the conversation or control the room. The last two forms of communication are public and mass communication. • 46. Communication, What Is It? Communication, what is it? Transferring a message from a sender to a receiver is defined as communication. To ensure good communication, messages need to be conveyed accurately by the sender and understood by the receiver. Thinking about the different ways we communicate with others. We don't just use our words (verbal– speaking and writing); we also communicate nonverbally using our bodies as well as graphically using images (Dwyer 2012). The ability to communicate is reflected by the quality and range of each individual's communications skills (Dwyer 2012 p.4). However, if there are interferences, either from external influences or internal distractions, the meanings of the messages can be lost or distorted. This can therefore cause inaccurate responses, decoding, that we hope to avoid. For me in my work place, communication is very important. As a leader working within a team, communication between team members is important to ensure that the intended outcomes are achieved. In addition to communicating to work colleagues, communication to external parties occurs multiple times a day. Professional communication requires me to use formal language verbal and nonverbal. Within my role in the company I work for, I not only am working at the "back of house" but also at the front– face of the company. Like wellness, the medicine wheel represents an "active state of health in which an individual progresses toward a higher level of functioning, thus achieving an optimum balance" (as cited in Fain & Lewis, 2002, p. 7). The medicine wheel is divided into four major sections, each representing a major part of a person (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual). With respect to intrapersonal communication, I find that my biggest setback in this category is comparing my physical appearance to others, which often creates a negative self–image. • 50. The Five Contexts Of Communication The Five Contexts of Communication: From Self–talk to the Masses Communication vital to human existence. Not only do we as humans have a need for communication, but all living things communicate in some form or fashion. For every living thing, communication is survival. It could even be said that communication is what makes the world go round to cite the old idiom (with some creative license). In this paper, we will be going over the five contexts of communication that is found in chapter one of "Business Communication for Success" (McLean, 2010) which include: intrapersonal communication, interpersonal communication, group communication, public communication, and mass communication. As we go through this information, keep in mind the statements above and ponder what they mean and how they relate. Intrapersonal Communication Intrapersonal communication is one of the foundational cornerstones in communication. In this context, when you are in the act of communicating intrapersonally, you are actually engaged in self talk, or speaking with yourself. This engagement takes place in the brain, although some may share their intrapersonal communication sometimes (have you ever had anyone say "I was talking to myself" after you respond to a statement or question your heard from them?). The fact of this kind of communication is that if you can't communicate with yourself effectively, you will fail to communicate with anyone else likewise. Psychology and nuroscience professor, Rick Hoyle, of Duke University shares that intrapersonal skills support our will or how we choose to behave. Further Hoyle described it as a kind of mechanism inside us that helps an individual complete goals they set for themselves through discretionary behavior (Hoyle and Davisson, 2011). It is plain to see why skills in intrapersonal communication are elementary to further communication. Interpersonal Communication Another fundamental communicative context that is critical to survival is that of interpersonal communication. This kind of communication is existent when it is had between to entities such as friends, family members, and other like relationships. What Is The Importance Of Communication In Nursing In this paper, I will discuss a nursing situation which I witnessed, which emphasized the significance of communication and understanding opposing perspectives for developing a therapeutic relationship between the nurse and the family (See Appendix). The scenario can be dissected at three different levels of inquiry: intrapersonal, interpersonal and contextual level. Understanding different range of perspectives can assist in creating a holistic care plan for the patient. At an intrapersonal level, one begins to communicate within themselves (Kozier et al., 2017). From the nurse's point of view, they acknowledge the client's inability to speak English and the need for an interpreter. At the same time, they know that they must assess for signs of inflammation and pain prior to applying medications. Proximally viewing the situation, the nurse feels the need to complete an assessment for the comfort of the client and to fulfill their task. However, as the interpreter walks into the scene and stops the nurse, the nurse may feel accused and decides to change their priority to solve the miscommunication in order to provide safe care to the client. On the other hand, at an intrapersonal level from the client's family's perspective, the family may feel frustrated at the nurse due to their obligation to protect the patient and to speak for the patient due to the language barrier. Goffman's concept of performance has two dimensions; for the most part the performance given is not one of deception but of truth and sincerity. "One finds that the performer can be fully taken in by his own act: he can be sincerely convinced that the impression of reality he stages is the real reality." (Goffman 1959) This leads the author to believe that this is true for most of society, for the way in which people present themselves through their beliefs, actions and demeanour is who they believe they are. Secondly Goffman discusses the belief in a "cynical" performance in which an individual has no faith in their performance and no concern with the inclination of the audience, the performance is based on deception. A prime example of this is the salesperson that convinces a consumer to buy a defective or below average product to increase his sales figures. However in any performance given, ... • 65. The Five Contexts Of Communication The Five Contexts of Communication When referencing communication, Saylor's textbook Business Communications for Success lists the following five contexts or types of communication: intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, public, and mass communication. Each of these different forms of communication may mean very different things, but they all have the same end result – to get a message from a source to a receiver. No matter where it's going or who it is coming from, a message is a message, any way you look at it. Each form of communication is experienced everyday all around the world. Interpersonal communication is probably the most common form of communication. It is experienced most days of our lives when we go out with friends, speak to our significant others, or even meet with a tutor. Interpersonal communication is simply speaking to one other person besides yourself. Talking on the phone, sending an individual email, or even a text message can all be forms of interpersonal communication as well. Intrapersonal communication is a big one as well. The concept of intrapersonal communication is when you are talking to yourself. When you are asking yourself how a first date went, and then answering yourself. No, you are not crazy; everyone does it! Other forms of intrapersonal communication could also be reciting lines to a play in your head, going over your answers to a test with yourself, or preplanning a conversation with a friend. Communication context applies to a variety of different scenarios but includes mass communication, public communication, interpersonal, intrapersonal and group communication. Communication also applies to the surroundings that are chosen for presentation and how those surroundings affect your communication to your audience. Mass Communication Mass communication is single communication with a large group or audience conveyed usually through media. It is found in a forum that could be coming through some organized media distribution such as television or social media, i.e., Facebook, Twitter or even a company's email. Mass communication is not necessarily governed by one–on–one responses but is used as a tool to share important information, functional necessities such as meeting times or updates or even to convey such events as parties on a social level. Mass communication can be highly effective but, again, there may or not be the response necessary to confirm receipt or ensure that the information has been disseminated as the speaker has chosen. Public Communication Public communication differs from mass communication in that it caters to a large audience which will probably be found in an auditorium for an event such as a speech. Public communication also differs in that the primary speaker has the responsibility to ensure that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After the changes in the healthcare system, the field has included pharmaceutical care in its mission. As described in Communications Skills for Pharmacist book, "pharmaceutical care requires the pharmacist to take responsibility for preventing and solving drug– related problems and optimizing drug therapy" (p.1, CP). On the other hand it is stagnant because the mission is not being fulfilled. The traditional way of practicing, which is dispensing drugs only, still persists. The pharmacy is being practiced in an unethical way as the patient is told to sign the paper, without being informed what rights the patient is losing. Presently, there is a need of pharmacists in the healthcare system, since they have the knowledge of drug interaction. But there might be a reduction in need because the healthcare wants something more than just dispensing medications. The need for pharmacist will only be understood, when the people know what to expect from pharmacists. If the patients understand that the pharmacist can provide them counseling, then they will approach the pharmacist. Some pharmacists want to fulfill the pharmaceutical care mission, but the authority puts restrictions and also the pharmacist is not compensated for the work. Consequently, as the authority is not willing to cooperate, the improvement in the role is difficult. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
