2. Major studios vs independents
• Create a table…
• Blockbusters and indie films
• Write down as many titles as you can
think of in each side of the table
3. Major studios vs independents
• Majors: Part of a larger network of
media companies or a CONGLOMERATE
• A corporation made up of a number of
different companies that operate in
diversified fields
4. Major studios vs independents
• Task – what else are these
conglomerates involved in
besides movies?
• Add to your list
with movie titles
from each of
these majors
5. Major studios vs independents
• Independents: produced mostly/solely
outside of the major film studio system –
produced and distributed independently
6. Major studios vs independents
• Task – research the titles of indie films
made by these companies
7. Majors or indies?
• Go to IMBD
• For each movie in your table find out if:
• The companies who made those films are indie or
major
• How much money they used to make the film
8. • Compare blockbuster and independent films using
the table below – write a summary of what the stats
show (think about where in particular that the
money is spent!)
9. Production processes
• Using your research from last lesson and
homework…
• Create a flowchart poster / handout of the
production process
• Include the activities that occur at pre-production,
production and post-production stages
• Choose one blockbuster and one indie film from
your list
• Pick a different colour for each and annotate your
flowchart detailing differences in production
processes between the two films e.g. funding,
development, post-production, CGI, etc.
