What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
1.
2. What is an institution?
• An institution is a company which disperses
media products and items for audience
consumption.
3. What else do media institutions do?
• Institutions help fund films and the making of
films.
• For example before film production the
director and producer can go to a media
company that they are interested in and pitch
their product or movie idea in order to get
backing from the particular company in
anyway possible e.g.; Funding, advertising.
4. Where would the institution disperse
the product?
• A film product would more than likely be put into
cinemas. Depending on the amount of funding
and how well they believe the films reaction
would be would depend on whether the film only
went nationally in cinemas or internationally.
• After it had been in the cinemas for a while the
institution would then make it into a DVD. Then
consider creating merchandise and soundtracks
etc.
5. The question is what institutions
would be best for MY product?
• In my research and planning I was looking at 2
similar film choices of School Of Rock, Once
and The Thing You Do.
• Institutions that benefit/work well with my
film idea are:
• JD pictures.
• Film Four
• The BBC.
6. JD PICTURES.
• This institution represents new upcoming
short films.
• They are a low to no budget company which
would be ideal for my product as I wouldn’t
want to spend too much money on mine.
• I think they may disperse my film as it’s a
simple low budget film to make and that’s
what JD pictures is all about.
7. Film Four.
• Film four ranges in both national and
international filming. This would be good as it
would get my product more known around
different parts of the world.
• Film four is partner with Warp X films where they
create lower budget films to get a bigger target
audience and no longer a niche one.
• I think Film Four would disperse my film as warp x
films specialises in lower budget films and that’s
what I would want mine to be like.
8. BBC FILMS.
• They are the forefront of great British films.
• They are always willing to give new talent a chance to
be known in Britain.
• Although they are fussy with the types of films they
will back when it comes to budgeting if they selected
my film I know it would do well as most British citizens
always trust BBC films for a good film.
• I think they may disperse my film and it is a British
music film which would interest the British public eye
as there is not many British versions of these type of
films around.
9. Conclusion.
• I would hope that these institutions would
give my film a chance in the lime light as they
are well known film companies with a good
reputation and they would help prevent my
film from getting a niche audience.
