A Report On The Seals
It was 0400 at the staging area, the SEALs had shown up in four fully outfitted DPV's (Desert Patrol
Vehicles – Off road vehicles used for combat). Captain O'Hara wondered where the hell they had
been keeping those. The plan was that the SEALs would for the most part move hard and fast to the
museum and secure it, then hold it until the much larger Marine follow on force arrived. The Marine
follow on force consisted of the entire Marine Company; they had pulled, temporarily, the Marine
platoon from the school to help with this operation. The SEALs would leave at 0415 and they were
itching to go, they were actually looking forward to it. The Marines in armored Humvees and two–
half ton trucks, the old M–35's, would follow thirty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

help them if they did. If you can call if a benefit of the EMP event that it happened on a weekend
late in the evening which meant there wasn't a great deal of traffic on the roads. Post event, as they
were finding out, it made getting down the roads they needed to quicker and less risky. The SEALs
were driving the DPV's balls out, while the others in the vehicles were looking for potential bad
guys. At five miles out they hadn't seen a living soul, at six and seven miles they had passed through
two very small camps, they surprised the hell out of the occupants, they saw that several members
of the camps were armed but the SEALs passed through them so quick that they didn't have time to
react. They radioed back the information to the main convoy to be on the lookout for the armed
civilians in the camps. At mile eight they entered a large camp that looked to have a population in
the hundreds, they realized they wouldn't be able to go around it; their only option was to pass
directly through it. The road passed through the center of it with all sorts of tents, dwellings made of
wood and cardboard, some people only had a tarp over them. The SEALs moved slowly through the
camp, people were startled to say the least as seeing the

Essay about The War Of 1812 And Its Effects On American...
By any criteria the years following the War of 1812, otherwise known as the "Era of Good
Feelings," must be considered a time of exceptional growth and development in the United States,
but above all, it may be considered a time of evolution and ripening of American nationalism,
unification, and economic prowess. The war of 1812 was a very problematic war. States did not
fulfill their duties, while commanders and leaders were not informed or supplied enough to keep up
the war. But what awakened during this time and afterwards is something much greater then victory.
The war wasn't just about Britain holding land and impressing American sailors into their navy; it
was a second war of independence. It was the first war as a united country, ... Show more content on

American presidents from Washington to Madison tried to keep the United States impartial during
these conflicts, but both France and Britain flagrantly disregarded the rights of neutral countries
(War of 1812).
For the Americans, the greatest irritant was Britain's practice of impressment, or the seizure of
American seamen for service in the British navy. The British government claimed that it only seized
subjects of the Crown who sailed under the American flag to avoid wartime service in their own
navy. In fact, the British seized not only their own deserters, but also impressed a sizeable number
of United States citizens–estimates suggest 6000 or more (Encyclopedia Encarta).
Public outrage over the issue of impressments grew increasingly vocal after an incident between the
American naval frigate Chesapeake and a British vessel, the Leopard. In June 1807 the Leopard
approached the Chesapeake only a few miles off the American coast and demanded to search the
ship for British deserters. The Chesapeake's commander, James Barron, refused, and the Leopard
opened fire. A number of American sailors were killed or wounded during the attack, and the
Chesapeake surrendered. The British then sent a party aboard and dragged four crewmen from the
vessel. After the incident, Jefferson ordered British warships to leave American waters

The History of Submarines Essay
The History of Submarines
Wouldn't it be fun to ride a torpedo, or drive a nuclear reactor around underwater? In this research
paper I am going to illustrate the ingenius submarine. The submarine is one of the most important
strategic and tactical weapons systems of the 20th Century, and this importance will increase in the
21st Century. The tiny, leaking, creaking, and unsafe submarine boats of the 1890's, displacing
under two hundred tons and carrying a handful of men and a few torpedoes have grown into
massive, sophisticated and deadly weapons systems.
These displacing as much as 26,000 tons, carrying a crew of over a hundred and armed with
missiles which can destroy large areas of the world. Every day hundreds of submarines are ... Show

The sail stands about 20 feet high. It holds the periscopes and the radar and radio antennas. The top
of the sail also serves as the bridge, from which the captain directs the submarine when on surface.
Steel fins called diving planes stick out from both sides of the sail or bow and from the stern.
These diving planes guide the ship to different depths. One or two propellers in the stern drive the
submarine, also rudders above and below the propellers steer the craft. The earliest inventors had no
other way but manpower to propel their submarines. Initially, this involved oars, then came
propellers turned by hand, either by a single person, as in David Bushnell's Turtle². Or by several
people turning a crank, as in a Confederate Hunley and the German Brandtaucher (meaning
"Incendiary Diver") in the mid–19th Century compressed–air was used as were electrical
accumulators, both were of limited endurance and required the submarine to return to the port to
recharge, which was tactically unacceptable. There were also a number of attempts to harness steam,
not only for surface propulsion, but also to provide power when submerged, using stored energy
devises, but none worked satisfactorily.Eventually it was realized that the solution was to combine
the efficiency of the batteries for underwater propulsion and some form of power which could be
used on the surface, both to propel the submarine and recharge its batteries.
Steam was used tried several

A Day Of Infamy Or Deceit?
A Day of Infamy or Deceit?
An Examination of the Events Leading to the Attack on Pearl Harbor
By: Josh Fender

HIS 121–101
May 11, 2015 The morning of December 7, 1941 was a day like another for the majority of
Americans, but that day changed the course of American history with the surprise attacks on the
United States naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. How much of a surprise was that attack, however?
When President Franklin Roosevelt's spoke to Congress on December 8th, he said "[t]he United
States was at the moment at peace with that nation [the Japanese Empire] and was still in
conversation with its Government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of the peace in
the Pacific."1 Almost immediately after the news of the bombing became public, a large number of
conspiracy theorist began speculating that the attack on Pearl Harbor was not as much of a surprise
as the American people were lead to believe. They claim the attack was triggered by President
Roosevelt intentionally provoking Japan with a long series of actions into a situation where they felt
like they had no other choice but to attack the United States. All of these events took place long
before the actual attack on Pearl Harbor and ultimately shaped the fate of the United States and the
world. In this paper, I will employ various sources such as memorandums and correspondence
between some of President Roosevelt's closest advisors and detailed

Military Boll History

The ROTC Military Ball has been around for a while. It is a requirement each year done on the
military's birthday to show respect and have a celebration. It consists of basically 6 rules: Protocol
information, Receiving line, posting of the colors, Pow/MIA ceremony, Toasts, Dinner, Guest
Speaker and the dance. Depending on the Military force depends on the date. National Guard:
December 16, 1636, U.S. Army: June 14, 1775, U.S. Navy: October 13, 1775 (Abolished Feb 1781
– Reinstated 7 Sep 1781), U.S. Marine Corps: November 10, 1775, U.S. Coast Guard: August 4,

Each year we celebrate the volunteerism, spirit and personal contributions that military personnel
give to Coronado. In establishing the Ball, the founders set several goals. First, to include
commanders and a deserving junior officer of active duty organizations stationed at Naval Base
Coronado. Secondly, it was important that about half of the attendees be appreciative citizens, and
that any resident of Coronado have the opportunity to attend the Ball. Additionally, they recognized
the importance of assets necessary to make this recognition possible. For centuries our men and
women in uniform have defended the freedom we all enjoy. Today they do so at great sacrifice. We
are in a struggle to maintain democratic principles and basic human rights in the face of a
determined and ruthless enemy. The current conflict is worldwide and may be the most difficult we
have ever faced. In "Honoring Those Who Serve" we salute this effort, the toll it has taken, and the
courage, determination and spirit that is evident in those who carry the load. We also grimly
recognize that we must not fail. The elusive victory may not be certain, but the future we hold dear
rests on valiant shoulders ... the American Soldier, Sailor, Marine and Airman in uniform." These
were examples of how history comes differently in the military ball's of different military forces and
how strongly they celebrate. As you can see these Navy Seals do greatly appreciate the military

Personal Stance On Being A Courageous Follower
Unit Four Paper
Write a two to three–page reflection paper about an instance when you or someone you know had to
be a "courageous follower." Did it have positive results? What could have been done differently to
help the situation? What is your personal stance on being a courageous follower? Refer to the text
and Chaleff's follower dimensions in support of your discussion.
After reading The Courageous Follower I have to be the "courageous follower" and leader on a
daily basis. The background of my service in the Navy allowed myself to progress through the
enlisted ranks to selection as a chief petty officer (e–7) followed to commissioning as a chief

The Uss Enterprise
There has been eight Navy ships in the United States named ENTERPRISE. She is creating a legacy
that will carry well into the future as PCU Enterprise (CVN 80) is commissioned in 2025. Senior
enlisted leaders are the keepers of naval tradition, heritage and the values as well as the mentors and
teachers of our history. This paper will cover the history of the USS ENTERPRISE and the
importance of its history to us as senior enlisted leaders. History The first ENTERPRISE was a
sloop supply ship by the British. Col B. Arnold seized the ship on 18 May 1775 at Saint John's
Quebec Canada and provided it for the use on Lake Champlain. On August 28, 1775, ENTERPRISE
and other ships begin more than one thousand troops as part of an expedition against Saint Johns,
Montreal, and Quebec. On 11 October 1776 at Valcour Island Col B. Arnold chose this site to wait
for the British. After two days of a running battle, it occur in the loss of all but five American ships.
ENTERPRISE and four other ships escaped to Crown Point, and sailed to Ticonderoga. On 17
October 1777, under the lead of General Horatio Gates the British was overpowered at Saratoga,
New York. This victory brought about the alliance with the French. Sadly, ENTERPRISE and two
other ships ran aground on July 7, 1777 and burned themselves to prevent capture. (Standifer, 2013)
The second ENTERPRISE was an eight–gun schooner of 25 tons with sixty men as the crew.

The North Africa Conflict
While analyzing the North Africa conflict, a combination of service capabilities would be required
to achieve the desired end state of deterring and if necessary, the defeat of Algerian guerilla
aggression to prevent regional and global destabilization. Taking into account the current military
landscape that exists today, a joint task force (JTF) would be the ideal military response of the
United States and collation partner's while utilizing the regional military assets. Intelligence
suggests guerilla forces are capable of a full scale offensive into Morocco in less than 36 hour
notice, bringing the factors of time, force and space into consideration. The United States Air Force
controls and operates numerous satellites for global positioning, missile warning, communication
and meteorological purposes along with reconnaissance aircraft. Through a combination of satellite
imagery and reconnaissance aircraft, identifying and collecting intelligence on guerilla military
targets and movements would be the first objective in the conflict. Once targets are identified,
bombing campaigns could commence from regional Air force bases in the Area of Operations (AO),
softening up guerilla forces in advance of the next stage of the military engagement, the ground
campaign. Air force tankers such as the HC–130, KC–135 and KC–10 would need to be deployed to
offer in flight air refueling for the F–15, F–16, F–22 and A–10's departing from regional Air force
bases. The Air Force also

Due to the location of the military installation, divers are usually transported to the ocean by boat, to
a dive location usually 30–90 minutes away. If a diver was stricken, a helicopter was supposed to
transport the rescue team, who, once arrived would swim 50–100 yards to the diver, placing him in
a rescue stretcher, and towing him back to the boat. This process alone could take approximately 30
minutes. The helicopter transporting the rescue team meanwhile would hover overhead. In turn the
rescue diver and stricken diver, are at risk because the rescue diver is attempting to swim with
rescue stretcher in tow through rough waters. Assuming they are both able to get onto the boat
safely, the rotor wash is still endangering not only the victim and rescue crew, but everyone on the
boat as well, because the rough water could cause the boat to capsize. Under these conditions the
stretcher could not be safely lifted to the helicopter. If the boat did not capsize, it would transport the
crew back to base 30–90 minutes away, prolonging the wait time before the diver could receive
medical attention. Under that policy the rescue process could take anywhere from 90 minutes to 3
hours, depending on how far they were from base, to get the stricken diver medical attention there.
Time is critical, especially if the stricken diver experiences a medical emergency like a heart

With the July temperature climbing above 100 degrees, the soldiers journeyed off through the thick
jungle toward the city of Santiago. Wearing uniforms of wool, the men struggled against the heat.
Many soldiers who brought rations of food along often discovered that it had spoiled. Soon many of
them became ill from malaria, fever, and dysentery.
After a few brief encounters, the Spanish and American armies confronted each other at the San
Juan hills. The Spanish highly defended the hills along a ridge east of Santiago.
Roosevelt scouted up and down the lines. "I had come to the conclusion that it was silly to stay in
the valley firing up at the hills...the thing to do was to try to rush the entrenchments," he said. With a
pistol in one hand an a saber in the other, he rode up toward the top with his soldiers following on
foot. They went all out toward the top, even though they were being slowed by the Spanish
Roosevelt kept leading them on and eventually captured the top of Kettle Hill.
The battle for Santiago was the last major conflict over
Spanish ownership of Cuba. Roosevelt and the Rough Riders forced the surrender of Santiago.
Unlike George Dewey's battle this battle came at a costly price. Out of the 568 rough riders landed
in Cuba, only 339 were fit for service. All the rest were dead, wounded or sick. That July 1st was by

Captain O'Hara was happy to be in the fold again, he had word that the West Coast was attempting
to send help via the Panama Canal. He didn't have the specifics nor did he know what they were
sending. He hoped they were sending ships, it would be great to feel like he was actually back in the
Navy again. Over the last couple of months he had teams evaluating the ships at James River,
National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF) for ships they might be able to use. Ideally, they were
studying the Category B ships, which meant that they were retained for future mobilization and fund
were allocated to maintain them. There were several frigates that they had already pulled out and
were working actively on restoring. They had yet to find any real combat vessels, such as a
Battleship or Destroyer that they could use. Captain O'Hara had gone out recently to the Navy yards
to check–out the progress on the ships, they were moving along nicely. The men and women
refurbishing the ships were civilians; half of the work force was ship builders that the Navy had
used prior to the event. The others were undergoing serious on–the–job training, but they were all
happy to be doing something. They weren't being paid on United States traditional currency because
it was all but useless. Like the West Coast, when the event happened all of the banks went under,

Ships during the American Civil War
Throughout the Civil War the South was Favoured to win the War because of certain advantages;
but with certain new unknown types of battles that started such as naval battles, and improvements
to the ships of the Navy can be linked to why the North became the victor of the Civil War. For
centuries before the Civil War, large naval battles had not changed dramatically. Battle in the times
before the Civil War were fought by wooden, sail–driven ships carrying as many cannon as possible,
which would shoot at each other until one of them became so damaged that it could not keep up the
fight. In the decade before the Civil War, however, major developments in naval technology forever
changed the face of naval warfare. Even though the South was thought to have the advantage over
the North the North was able to take advantage of the new technologies that were coming out to
actually bring them a victory that set precedents that would last till the present day.
The Civil War lasted for four years, from 1861–1865. It was between the northern states and the
southern states. The South was called the Confederate States of America and was led by President
Jefferson Davis. The North was still the Union, and was led by president Abraham Lincoln. Slavery
had been a historical problem before the war that could be linked to starting the war. In the eyes of
some Southerners slavery was a necessary evil. The South found slavery highly profitable and knew
their economy would collapse without

Anaconda Command Structure
Command Structure Operation Anaconda
Introduction
The command structure in United States Military is vital to the success of missions carried out in or
outside the country. The Department of Defense is responsible for overseeing the establishment of
command hierarchies that work for specific units. The commands, guidelines, and orders are passed
from the highest–ranking personnel to lowest ranking officers who must perform the directive or
pass it to subordinates with the same instructions. The principles that establish the command
structure in the military evaluates the performance of each command and the officers involved in the
various missions. The key principles that affected the execution of Operation Anaconda resulting in
mission deficiencies are organizational structure, decision–making, and collaboration. Operation
Anaconda The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) aimed at destroying terror groups
Taliban and al–Qaeda carried out operation Anaconda. The operation was executed in March 2002
outside the valley of Shahi–Kot in Zormat area, Afghanistan (Fleri, Howard, Hukill, Searle, 2003).
The task included forces that required direct command and instruction from their Commanders. The
mission was in direct link with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) office and CENTCOM with
the General Tommy R. Franks as the officer in charge that received, analyzed and provided real–

A Veteran's Honor
Honor is the pride and respect of veterans who served their country and kept it safe. How one
person thanks the veterans is different from another. However, honor and morals sometimes get
confused during the time of war. The Navy sometimes names their ships after war heroes for their
actions and bravery. However, shouldn't the military do that for all veterans alive or dead? Some
veterans don't even get the honor and respect they earned for serving their country. When Veteran's
Day became an official holiday in the United States, Americans honored them by giving out
discounts or free items for that day. Many restaurants such as Applebee's and Olive Garden give
discounts or free food to veterans as a thank you to them for their service. Some veterans wear their
uniforms when going out on this day. Some places have parades for the veterans in honor of them.
Memorial Day and Independence Day in some Americans eyes can be considered a time to honor
veterans as well. On Independence Day most Americans wear red, white and blue and shoot off
fireworks and play music not only to celebrate America's birthday, but to honor all the men and
women who died in battle as well as honor the ones that are alive. Some veterans have reunions
after the time they served with the people who was with them during that time. Anywhere a reunion
is being held like, the beach or in a major city like Boston or Jacksonville, etc. Hotels will give big
discounts for the time they served and they respect

Operational Level Command And Control Requires Both The
Operational level command and control requires both the effective execution of mission command
and integration of the joint functions. During Operation Husky, the Allies did not have a shared
understanding of the mission, did not have a clear understanding of commander's intent, and did not
exhibit mutual trust during the campaign. Disjointed Mission Command repeatedly prevented the
Allies from capitalizing on the Allies' collective combat power.
While the Allied Naval forces came through with incredible logistical accomplishments in the joint
function of sustainment, the Allies' poor execution of movement and maneuver ultimately allowed
Germany's withdraw from Sicily. Although the Allies failed to put forth a united effort, they ... Show

During the campaign, General Alexander's inability to grasp the significance of a German
withdrawal echoed the Allies' lack of understanding at the Casablanca Conference. On the ground,
neither LTG Patton's 7th Army nor Montgomery's 8th Army understood that the true center of
gravity for the campaign lay in defeating the German forces and preventing their withdrawal.
Instead, the 7th Army and 8th Army sacked one town after another and got mired in various
embattlements, which gave the Germans enough time to withdraw to Italy in significant numbers.
This strategic blunder was a direct result of the lack of understanding. Commander's intent, the
second key component of Mission Command, provides subordinate commanders and units with a
"clear and concise expression of the purpose of the operation and the desired military end state."
Leaders who understand the commander's intent can use that information to fill in any gaps in
information as those commanders move their units on the battlefield. In doing so, commanders can
achieve battlefield synergy when faced with poor communications from higher. The Casablanca
Conference left U.S. service members, and their general officers "with an imperfect understanding
of the ultimate purpose" of Operation Husky. "This lack of clarity would ultimately have an adverse
impact on the resolution of the campaign." England saw Operation Husky as the first of several
peripheral fights that would attack

The Spanish American War Was A Conflict Between Spain And...
The Spanish–American war was a conflict between Spain and America. It ended Spanish ruling in
the Americas and resulted in the expansion of territories in the Pacific and Latin America for the US.
During this period of imperialism, there were many influences driving the U.S. government. The
war started with Cuba struggling to gain their independence from Spain. However, Spain rejected
their notions by brutally stopping the Cuban rebellion. Newspapers began portraying Spain as
spiteful and the sympathy for the Cuban rebels rose in America. William Randolph Hearst was
responsible for exaggerating the truth in the papers about the fight for independence from Spain.
Hearst invented a term called "yellow journalism", which exploits, distorts, or exaggerates the news
to attract readers. A truce was called and Spain allowed Cuba to have limited power of self–
government. Nevertheless, the demand for the US to intervene with the conflict grew and it resulted
in the sinking of the USS Maine in the Havana Harbor in Cuba. The battleship had an explosion that
resulted in 260 sailors dead. The explosion was thought to have been caused by the Spanish even
though it was never proven. This led to the start of the war. Spain declared war on the US on April
24, 1898. No American favored Cuban independence like Roosevelt. Teddy Roosevelt was one of
the most conspicuous heroes during the Spanish–American war. It is apparent that Teddy favored

Benefits to the Joint Community, Services, Defense/Federal Agencies, and Coalition Partners
In a fiscally constrained operating environment and a reduced footprint overseas, the Department of
Defense is consistently looking for ways to mitigate challenges associated with rapid global
projection. By having multiple means to deliver sustainment to the warfighter, the JMMLV will
prevent a single point of failure. The JMMLVs design provides an additional option along with
current capabilities that exist to sustain operations and rapidly employ combat power. As Australian
Maj Gen Rick Burr, Deputy Commanding General, US Army Pacific highlighted in a 2013 Defense
News article concerning logistics, "The potential for anything to happen at any time is very real
particularly with natural disasters...being prepared to respond to any crisis that could happen at short
notice is clearly the most pressing issue at the moment." (McLeary 2013) The United States and its
ability to respond to a crisis is crucial for success and supporting global responsibilities. The use of
the JMMLV offers advantages that will benefit Combatant Commands, the Services, Defense and
Federal Agencies, and our coalition partners that routinely provide mutual support to one another to

Remote Minehunting System ( Rms ) Of Littoral Combat Ship
This paper examines Remote Minehunting System (RMS) of Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) in detail.
LCS is a fast platform designed for executing operations in near–shore environments. But, it is
capable of conducting open–ocean operation as well. It is designed to defeat asymmetric threats.
Mines, submarines and fast surface craft can be shown as unique examples of asymmetric threats.
The LCS, which is a fast, maneuverable surface ship, provides warfighting capabilities for
tasks/missions including mine warfare, anti–submarine warfare (ASW) and anti–surface warfare
(ASUW). The RMS, which will be deployed on LCS, is a component of the LCS Mine
Countermeasures (MCM) mission package (MP). The mission package is called the Remote
Minehunting System. The system uses the Remote Multimission Vehicle (RMMV). The RMMV
vehicle is produced by Lockheed Martin. It conducts autonomous and/or semi autonomous
missions. It also carries AQS–20A minehunting sonar. The sonar attached to RMMV is specifically
designed for a variable depth forward–looking and side–scanning under sea. Raytheon makes the
AQS–20As. The RMS detects, classifies, and localizes non–buried bottom and moored mines. It
also identifies shallow–water bottom mines.
U.S. Navy plans to keep its ships out of the dangerous minefield with the RMS. Navy focuses on
decreasing core crew for mine warfare while conducting mine–hunting operations as well. Navy
envisions that this concept with RMS on LCS will prove a significant force

United States Navy's Bomb Squad
Introduction
The United States Navy's Bomb Squad (NEOD) is a remarkably small organization that works in
small teams to accomplish worldly tasks. These obstacles range from IED to chemical and
biological weapon disarmament. The Bomb Squad is responsible for operations in war zones, as
well as on the home–front. With intentions of generating a more informed populous at the United
States Naval Academy, a U.S. Navy Bomb Squad liaison along with numerous personnel, facilitated
an 18 hour "screener" for interested personnel possibly accessing into the organization. I was

They also need to be in good physical shape, the bomb suit that they don during combat weighs 100
lbs. alone. It costs approximately $150, 000 to fully train a U.S. Navy Bomb Squad member, and in
prior years, the only observation made on the individual was a college transcript review (USNA
NEOD screener instruction, 2015). The organization realized this problem and implemented a very
innovative endeavor, in which individuals would be taught about the organization, screened for
accession, and a few would be selected to begin training after graduating from the U.S. Naval
Academy. The "screener" began at 3 pm on November 6th and concluded at 9 am on November 7th.
It was held at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD utilizing various facilities from swimming
pools to classrooms. It was a very informative, physical, and grueling process for all involved, yet
yielded commendable results.
Nature of the learning activity
The U.S. Navy's Bomb Squad faced a very real problem: Its newest members were being selected
for training upon merit alone, with no personality or physical screening process. This was a very
real challenge, for the aforementioned reasons of required emotional intelligence and physical
toughness. The screener had a very clear mission: "safely and effectively screen Midshipmen in
their ability to lead small units under stress while introducing them to the NEOD training pipeline
through evaluation by their peers, upper–class, and NEOD technicians"

The United States Of The American Dream
I Believe in Service to Your Country I often hear that destiny has been predetermined for each
individual. On the other hand, I prefer to believe that I control my own. My brother, sister, and I are
first generation in this great country. The opportunity to reach the American dream was presented to
my parents and they graciously took advantage. Every day I am grateful to have been born in this
country, and always knew that one day I would serve the United States of America. The clock ticked
away, and the time to face the inevitable had arrived. I was twenty–one years old when I stepped
into the Navy recruiter's office. I was set on a speedy course to find a field for me in the military,
and soon I was on a plane towards Great Lakes, Illinois. One month exactly had passed, from when
I signed my contract to when I stepped into the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes. When I
trained in boot camp, I had been introduced to new values and beliefs. Hard work and dedication
were a requirement everyday with no exceptions. I had met fellow sailors from all over the U.S and
even other countries. I had instantly found my call, and could not get enough of the new elements I
was introduced to. For the first time in my life, I was assigned to be a leader and I naturally took to
the assignment. The formula was simple, exercise hard, keep a pristine uniform, and be loud and
proud. I was assigned the rate of Aviation Ordnanceman, and after three months I made my way to

The War Of 1812 And The Chesapeake Bay
The War of 1812 and the Chesapeake Bay On March 3rd, 1813, the first British ships of war
appeared on the Chesapeake Bay. For two years the Chesapeake would be the scene of numerous
amounts of battles. Some would be lost in anonymity, but others would make history. But first, why
did the British come? We were at war almost thirty years before, so how did it come upon these two
superpower nations to collide once again? A few answers to these questions will put the war of 1812
and the Battle of the Chesapeake Bay in its proper context. Shortly following the Revolutionary
War, America built one of the strongest merchant fleets the world had ever seen. Overseas trade
flourished America's economy, with its peak specifically in 1807 with exports ranging around $100
million (Hickey). Throughout this period of growth for America, Great Britain's Royal Navy was
without a doubt the master of the high seas. Not helping the future war, Thomas Jefferson was
elected into office in 1801 and one of his most notable actions was to shrink the Navy and Military
significantly. The homelands defense now laid in the hands of a small fleet of mainly gunboats.
They did have a few capital ships, however their primary tasks were to remain as the "floating
fortress" of vital eastern seaboard ports. Only quite rarely did they ever see open water conflict.
British and French ships, however, took advantage of the weaker merchant ships of the US navy and
began to prey on them. The British continuously

A Change of Tides in America's Greatest War
"Midway thrust the warlords back on their heels, caused their ambitious plans..........to be canceled,
and forced on them an unexpected, unwelcome, defensive role". –Samuel Elliot Morison, the United
States Navy's official historian of World War II, on the Battle of Midway in June 1942. The danger
of Japanese power in the Pacific lingered over the heads of the Americans and endangered the safety
of their homeland in the years from 1903 to 1942. That power lasted until the Japanese made the
mistake of attacking the island of Midway in the second great carrier battle of the war. At 4:30 in the
morning on June 4, 1942, the Japanese attacked the U.S. naval base at Midway in an attempt to

Yamamoto had a complex invasion plan that included a second operation against the Aleutian
Islands near Alaska, however, because of the damages sustained at the Battle of Coral Sea, his
Carrier Strike Force consisted of only four aircraft carriers defended by only a handful of cruisers
and destroyers ("HIGH NOON ON THE HIGH SEAS"). Even with the depleted fleet, the Japanese
remained confident that the upcoming battle would be a swift victory for their advancement into the
Pacific. Little did the Japanese know that U.S Intelligence was hard at work gathering intel to thwart
an offensive on Midway.
The U.S. knew absolutely everything, with skillful work in radio communication and codebreaking,
they were able to find out, in detail, when the attack would begin, where it would be, and how they
would go about it ("Battle of Midway 4–7 June 1942"). After absorbing the information, Admiral
Chester W. Nimitz of the U.S. Navy, decided to take an offensive approach to the impending battle.
His plan required three naval task forces to be set up. Admiral William F. "Bull" Halsey was the

Men of Honor
An entrepreneur is a person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a business venture

other attributes that are missing. As an entrepreneur you must have a wide variety of traits which
can not only help you in creating ideas but improve them as well. Risk taking and leadership are
only a few of the many characteristics you should possess. However, the one trait that is a necessity
in anything you do is passion. Without it not only will you become bored with your work, but you

Trying to fit global assets into a regional or geographic operational framework is not an easy task.
War gaming and C2 exercises will help with this evolution of thought and military theory.
USCYBERCOM's centralized control of cyberspace operations does not give GCCs the desired
seamless integration of military cyber capabilities into theater planning and can adversely impact
the synchronizations of actions across the area of responsibility. Cyber forces OPCON is retained by
the supporting commander, but the GCCs control the pace of cyberspace operations within their area
of responsibility (AOR). USCYBERCOM has the responsibility for determining priority in the
application of forces. In other words GCCs may be competing for the same resources. A regional
commander needs at least shared control of enough combat power to get the job done.
USCYBERCOM recognizes the complexity and importance of command relationships concerning
GCC cyber requirements. COCOMs are responsible for fighting wars. They determine what training
services must be conducted to provide the specialized and general purpose forces needed in theater.
Cyber support should not be treated differently. An alternative to the current relationship would be
the establishment of a Joint Functional Cyber Component Command. The JFCCC could be the next

Stephen Decatur : An Integral Part Of The United States
Stephen Decatur was an integral part of the United States Navy in its developmental days. He was a
part of the battles that determined the United States' naval strategy in decades to come. He was
always on the front lines of innovation and any naval battle taking place nearby. Stephen Decatur
was an inspiration to the newly minted United States Navy, his bold and daring exploits inspired the
Navy to achieve more and created a culture of pride and achievement in the Navy.
Stephen Decatur had to first rise through the ranks to get command of his own ship. He was a
midshipman on the USS United States under Captain John Barry, who became a close friend and
mentor. He then rose to the rank of Lieutenant during the French Quasi–War. He took part in the job
of escorting American merchantmen and ensuring their safety from French privateers and men of
war.
With the Tripolitan pirates capturing of American shipping in the Mediterranean Commodore Dale
was sent, with a squadron, to confront the Barbary pirates. Now Lieutenant Decatur was sent with
this squadron to the Mediterranean then while there he was given command of the USS Enterprise.
Decatur was then part of the battle to capture a Tripolitan vessel that was then declared a prize of
war by Commodore Preble and renamed the USS Intrepid. During this time the USS Pennsylvania

Junior Sailor's Life After My Navy
Like many young sailor coming out of boot camp, when I heard the words talk to "THE CHIEF" I

How ever throughout my career I realized that a chief is more than that. They are mentors, teachers,
a shoulder to cry on and for some a father figure I met many Chiefs throughout my Naval career,
some good and some bad. Many of them had a positive impact on my Naval. But there was one
individual who took the time to mold and mentor not just as a junior sailor but also as a man and
made the word "CHIEF" take on an entirely different meaning.
I first I reported to my command that Saturday morning; the base was a ghost town because the
command was still moving from Alameda California to Corpus. My friend Thomas who I met on
the plane on the way to Corpus was one of the first to arrive and we were told that my division

The 's Leadership Style During World War II
William Frederick Halsey, Jr., was the South Pacific Fleet Admiral during World War II, His passion
for naval aviation helped save the community and provide national support from the American
people back home. He was the major source of moral during the war for the American people, and
always produced results whenever and wherever it was needed. Although Halsey's leadership style
has been disputed more often than not, his decisions and role as Fleet Admiral during World War II
served greatly in the American victory over Japan. HALSEY HELPED TIP THE BALANCE OF
POWER IN THE PACIFIC DURING THE EARLY STAGES OF WORLD WAR II DURING

distant relative, Captain John Halsey, served as an English privateer during Queen Anne's war 1703–
1713. Halsey was essentially born into the navy, and was influenced by the service at such a young
age. His boldness outspoken nature was first demonstrated at an early age when he had trouble

It was a severe psychological shock to the nation of Japan. The Army thought Japan's main interest
was in the war in China and defending Manchuria against the Soviet Union. Its support for the
Navy's southern strategy was limited due to the fact that it conflicted with its interests and was the
reason many Army divisions were willing to divide. This indifference was the decline of the
influence of the Naval General Staff over the planning of naval strategy of the Combined Fleet
under Admiral Yamamoto. This was in due to the personality of Yamamoto and his low opinion of
the Chief of the Naval General Staff, as well as his opinion after the success of the attack on Pearl

. What might have been a major strategic opportunity wound up being nothing, as the Germans
offered no proposals for joint operations under the new Tripartite Axis agreement. It was important
that the Japanese lure the remainder of the US Pacific Fleet to battle around Midway and that the
Imperial Navy achieve a strategic victory as Yamamoto believed that Japan could then offer peace to
the United States from a position of strength. Yamamoto added Carrier Division 5 to the naval
forces assigned to the operation which increased the risks to the Midway operation. The Combined
Fleet plan was finalized and presented to the Naval General Staff on April 2. Yamamoto played the

This battle was important for a few reasons. It consisted of a carrier versus carrier battle which was
the first in history as neither Japan nor the United States detected each other at sea. (Tulley.,2005).
Considering neither side actually won this battle, it was considered a turning point in the Pacific.
For the first time, the Allies had stopped the Japanese advance. Then again, the Japanese had some
victories while they still experienced a series of losses. These defeats included Midway one month
later, which was a major United States victory. Moreover, a few months after the Japanese attack on
the United States at Pearl Harbor and almost a month before the battle at Midway, the Battle of the

This flight planted the importance of air power in the minds of naval thinkers, including Admiral
Bradley A. Fiske whom started looking for ways to make naval aircraft fighting machines. In the
start of World War I no nation had imagined a ship to where planed could land and take off from,
such as an aircraft carrier. The Naval Act of 1916 provided $500 million for items such as
battleships, battle cruisers, and submarines. There had been not one mention of funding naval air.
However many advancements came during World War I that would affect not just the United States
Navy, but the rest of the world for multiple generations to come. Great was leading the charge with
having produced two functioning aircraft carriers by 1918. There was no other nation that had even
produced one yet. However Japan was the first to build a aircraft carrier from the keel up, meaning
that it was not a converted battleships like the previous aircraft carriers. Naval air power built up to
160,000 officers and men, as well as 500 aircraft and 26 naval stations as World War I brought the

Essay It Takes Warships and Commandos to Fight Pirates on...
In the last decade, piracy at sea has been a common headline in news publications around the world.
News from cargo ships hijacked and their crews kidnapped for ransom off the coast of Africa almost
seem to be an everyday cry for action from the international community. This illegal activity,
common since the first merchant vessels sailed the seas many centuries ago, has been a problem that
civilization has yet to resolve. However, the maritime shipping industry and the world's most
invested countries in maritime trade have responded effectively to these attacks in the past few years
by taking matters into their own hands. Specifically, many countries around the world have been

They understand that their skiffs and small weapons are no real match against the manpower,
firepower, and endurance of a naval vessel. At the same time, these criminals also understand that
anti–piracy navy operations are expensive and cannot cover the entire Gulf of Aden. "Once pirates
get control of a ship, it is very unusual for naval forces to be able to intervene successfully; the risks
to the ship's crew are too high" says Hughes (2013, para. 10). With this in mind, shipping companies
approached this problem with a hands–on strategy.
To put it differently, naval patrols off the coast of Somalia have not been as effective against piracy
as expected. Consequently, the maritime shipping industry turned to the private security industry for
a solution. As a result, most ships that transit piracy "hot spots" like the Gulf of Aden have armed
security teams on board, much like mercenaries. According to Rix (as cited in "Tide turns against
pirates," 2013), ships provided with an armed security detail have never been successfully hijacked.
The fight is always short when pirates attack armed cargo ships. In the vast majority of cases, the
commandos onboard repel pirate attacks without major difficulties due to their "higher ground"
position, tactical training, and better weapons. A simple show of force or an occasional warning shot
is normally enough for pirates to back down.
In essence, taking the fight

The Effect Barbary Pirates Had on the History of America
The effect Barbary Pirates had on the history of America
Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Tunisia; The current day names for the land of which the Barbary Pirates
had once inhabited. These Barbary States would extort the world of their men and their cargo
through plundering of naval ships. In the same time period there was a newly discovered land,
which was striving to mature into an independent country. This land was known as America, and
they were rigorously tearing apart from their homeland, England. "Once the United States declared
independence, British diplomats were quick to inform the Barbary States that U.S. ships were open
to attack. In 1785"(PA). The United States did not enjoy paying off the pirates, so they took it to
their own hands to stop this problem once and for all. The defeat of the Barbary States, by
Americans helped the naval security, a huge amount in the future of the "Land of the Free", and
allowed for lots of fighting experience.
"From 1786 to 1815, the United States made tribute payments to the North African Barbary states to
protect its shipping from pirate raids"(Kearney F, "Barbary pirates"). This ended when Jefferson was
elected into presidency. He had been against the tribute of the Barbary States his whole life in office,
and so when he was elected, he stopped paying tribute and refused to pay a ransom for many goods
and men that the pirates had rummaged. This angered the pirates, and so war was unofficially
declared, and Jefferson had a blockade

Essay The Battle Of Midway
The Battle of Midway
On June 3rd, 1942, the United States declared war on Imperialistic Japan and Nazi Germany. Due to
the bombing of the United States' naval base at Pearl Harbor by the Japanese the U.S. was forced to
take action. The United States began their first naval battle near the Midway islands in defense of its
pacific fleet and positioning. Midway was the Japanese' last goal for its western expansion in the
Pacific. Just after midnight on June 4th,1942, the United States attacked a fleet of Japanese transport
ships. One American torpedo plane took out fleet tanker "Akabono Maru". Later that morning at
about 6:30am, Japanese planes began bombing midway island installations, though causing minimal

into World War II. During the Start of the war the United States encountered The Battle of Midway.
This battle would be one of the major turning points during World War II. The Japanese' motive for
the bombing Pearl Harbor was to destroy the United States Pacific fleet so that the Japanese could
have complete naval control of the Pacific Ocean as well as to go through with the Japanese Pan
Asian program with–out the United
States interference. Midway was the first major naval battle between the United Stated and Japan
after Pearl Harbor. It was also one of the most important battles in all of World
War II. The battle of Midway began in June of 1942 and ended just 4 days later. Though it was a
relatively short battle, it was still immensely important to the United States victory over Japan in
World War II. The Battle of Midway was fought with a variety of naval ships such as battleships,
destroyers, aircraft carriers, as well as naval planes and submarines. Many of these ships and planes
were lost during this battle especially for the Japanese.(Cressman, Robert J., "No End Save
Victory", Naval Historical Center, June 1998)
II. The Battle of Midway was short but there were still a significant number of casualties of ships,
planes, and men. Although the Japanese acquired plenty more casualties in all three of these
categories. The United States lost a total of 1 aircraft carrier, 1

A Report On The Seals

  • 1. A Report On The Seals It was 0400 at the staging area, the SEALs had shown up in four fully outfitted DPV's (Desert Patrol Vehicles – Off road vehicles used for combat). Captain O'Hara wondered where the hell they had been keeping those. The plan was that the SEALs would for the most part move hard and fast to the museum and secure it, then hold it until the much larger Marine follow on force arrived. The Marine follow on force consisted of the entire Marine Company; they had pulled, temporarily, the Marine platoon from the school to help with this operation. The SEALs would leave at 0415 and they were itching to go, they were actually looking forward to it. The Marines in armored Humvees and two– half ton trucks, the old M–35's, would follow thirty ... If you can call if a benefit of the EMP event that it happened on a weekend late in the evening which meant there wasn't a great deal of traffic on the roads. Post event, as they were finding out, it made getting down the roads they needed to quicker and less risky. The SEALs were driving the DPV's balls out, while the others in the vehicles were looking for potential bad guys. At five miles out they hadn't seen a living soul, at six and seven miles they had passed through two very small camps, they surprised the hell out of the occupants, they saw that several members of the camps were armed but the SEALs passed through them so quick that they didn't have time to react. They radioed back the information to the main convoy to be on the lookout for the armed civilians in the camps. At mile eight they entered a large camp that looked to have a population in the hundreds, they realized they wouldn't be able to go around it; their only option was to pass directly through it. The road passed through the center of it with all sorts of tents, dwellings made of wood and cardboard, some people only had a tarp over them. • 2. Essay about The War Of 1812 And Its Effects On American... By any criteria the years following the War of 1812, otherwise known as the "Era of Good Feelings," must be considered a time of exceptional growth and development in the United States, but above all, it may be considered a time of evolution and ripening of American nationalism, unification, and economic prowess. The war of 1812 was a very problematic war. States did not fulfill their duties, while commanders and leaders were not informed or supplied enough to keep up the war. But what awakened during this time and afterwards is something much greater then victory. The war wasn't just about Britain holding land and impressing American sailors into their navy; it was a second war of independence. It was the first war as a united country, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... American presidents from Washington to Madison tried to keep the United States impartial during these conflicts, but both France and Britain flagrantly disregarded the rights of neutral countries (War of 1812). For the Americans, the greatest irritant was Britain's practice of impressment, or the seizure of American seamen for service in the British navy. The British government claimed that it only seized subjects of the Crown who sailed under the American flag to avoid wartime service in their own navy. In fact, the British seized not only their own deserters, but also impressed a sizeable number of United States citizens–estimates suggest 6000 or more (Encyclopedia Encarta). Public outrage over the issue of impressments grew increasingly vocal after an incident between the American naval frigate Chesapeake and a British vessel, the Leopard. In June 1807 the Leopard approached the Chesapeake only a few miles off the American coast and demanded to search the ship for British deserters. The Chesapeake's commander, James Barron, refused, and the Leopard opened fire. A number of American sailors were killed or wounded during the attack, and the Chesapeake surrendered. The British then sent a party aboard and dragged four crewmen from the vessel. After the incident, Jefferson ordered British warships to leave American waters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The History of Submarines Essay The History of Submarines Wouldn't it be fun to ride a torpedo, or drive a nuclear reactor around underwater? In this research paper I am going to illustrate the ingenius submarine. The submarine is one of the most important strategic and tactical weapons systems of the 20th Century, and this importance will increase in the 21st Century. The tiny, leaking, creaking, and unsafe submarine boats of the 1890's, displacing under two hundred tons and carrying a handful of men and a few torpedoes have grown into massive, sophisticated and deadly weapons systems. These displacing as much as 26,000 tons, carrying a crew of over a hundred and armed with missiles which can destroy large areas of the world. Every day hundreds of submarines are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sail stands about 20 feet high. It holds the periscopes and the radar and radio antennas. The top of the sail also serves as the bridge, from which the captain directs the submarine when on surface. Steel fins called diving planes stick out from both sides of the sail or bow and from the stern. These diving planes guide the ship to different depths. One or two propellers in the stern drive the submarine, also rudders above and below the propellers steer the craft. The earliest inventors had no other way but manpower to propel their submarines. Initially, this involved oars, then came propellers turned by hand, either by a single person, as in David Bushnell's Turtle². Or by several people turning a crank, as in a Confederate Hunley and the German Brandtaucher (meaning "Incendiary Diver") in the mid–19th Century compressed–air was used as were electrical accumulators, both were of limited endurance and required the submarine to return to the port to recharge, which was tactically unacceptable. There were also a number of attempts to harness steam, not only for surface propulsion, but also to provide power when submerged, using stored energy devises, but none worked satisfactorily.Eventually it was realized that the solution was to combine the efficiency of the batteries for underwater propulsion and some form of power which could be used on the surface, both to propel the submarine and recharge its batteries. Steam was used tried several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Examination of the Events Leading to the Attack on Pearl Harbor By: Josh Fender Submitted To: Professor Daniel Gore HIS 121–101 May 11, 2015 The morning of December 7, 1941 was a day like another for the majority of Americans, but that day changed the course of American history with the surprise attacks on the United States naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. How much of a surprise was that attack, however? When President Franklin Roosevelt's spoke to Congress on December 8th, he said "[t]he United States was at the moment at peace with that nation [the Japanese Empire] and was still in conversation with its Government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of the peace in the Pacific."1 Almost immediately after the news of the bombing became public, a large number of conspiracy theorist began speculating that the attack on Pearl Harbor was not as much of a surprise as the American people were lead to believe. They claim the attack was triggered by President Roosevelt intentionally provoking Japan with a long series of actions into a situation where they felt like they had no other choice but to attack the United States. All of these events took place long before the actual attack on Pearl Harbor and ultimately shaped the fate of the United States and the world. In this paper, I will employ various sources such as memorandums and correspondence between some of President Roosevelt's closest advisors and detailed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The North Africa Conflict While analyzing the North Africa conflict, a combination of service capabilities would be required to achieve the desired end state of deterring and if necessary, the defeat of Algerian guerilla aggression to prevent regional and global destabilization. Taking into account the current military landscape that exists today, a joint task force (JTF) would be the ideal military response of the United States and collation partner's while utilizing the regional military assets. Intelligence suggests guerilla forces are capable of a full scale offensive into Morocco in less than 36 hour notice, bringing the factors of time, force and space into consideration. The United States Air Force controls and operates numerous satellites for global positioning, missile warning, communication and meteorological purposes along with reconnaissance aircraft. Through a combination of satellite imagery and reconnaissance aircraft, identifying and collecting intelligence on guerilla military targets and movements would be the first objective in the conflict. Once targets are identified, bombing campaigns could commence from regional Air force bases in the Area of Operations (AO), softening up guerilla forces in advance of the next stage of the military engagement, the ground campaign. Air force tankers such as the HC–130, KC–135 and KC–10 would need to be deployed to offer in flight air refueling for the F–15, F–16, F–22 and A–10's departing from regional Air force bases. Due to the location of the military installation, divers are usually transported to the ocean by boat, to a dive location usually 30–90 minutes away. If a diver was stricken, a helicopter was supposed to transport the rescue team, who, once arrived would swim 50–100 yards to the diver, placing him in a rescue stretcher, and towing him back to the boat. This process alone could take approximately 30 minutes. The helicopter transporting the rescue team meanwhile would hover overhead. In turn the rescue diver and stricken diver, are at risk because the rescue diver is attempting to swim with rescue stretcher in tow through rough waters. Assuming they are both able to get onto the boat safely, the rotor wash is still endangering not only the victim and rescue crew, but everyone on the boat as well, because the rough water could cause the boat to capsize. Under these conditions the stretcher could not be safely lifted to the helicopter. If the boat did not capsize, it would transport the crew back to base 30–90 minutes away, prolonging the wait time before the diver could receive medical attention. Under that policy the rescue process could take anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how far they were from base, to get the stricken diver medical attention there. With the July temperature climbing above 100 degrees, the soldiers journeyed off through the thick jungle toward the city of Santiago. Wearing uniforms of wool, the men struggled against the heat. Many soldiers who brought rations of food along often discovered that it had spoiled. Soon many of them became ill from malaria, fever, and dysentery. After a few brief encounters, the Spanish and American armies confronted each other at the San Juan hills. The Spanish highly defended the hills along a ridge east of Santiago. Roosevelt scouted up and down the lines. "I had come to the conclusion that it was silly to stay in the valley firing up at the hills...the thing to do was to try to rush the entrenchments," he said. With a pistol in one hand an a saber in the other, he rode up toward the top with his soldiers following on foot. They went all out toward the top, even though they were being slowed by the Spanish Roosevelt kept leading them on and eventually captured the top of Kettle Hill. The battle for Santiago was the last major conflict over Spanish ownership of Cuba. Roosevelt and the Rough Riders forced the surrender of Santiago. He didn't have the specifics nor did he know what they were sending. He hoped they were sending ships, it would be great to feel like he was actually back in the Navy again. Over the last couple of months he had teams evaluating the ships at James River, National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF) for ships they might be able to use. Ideally, they were studying the Category B ships, which meant that they were retained for future mobilization and fund were allocated to maintain them. There were several frigates that they had already pulled out and were working actively on restoring. They had yet to find any real combat vessels, such as a Battleship or Destroyer that they could use. Captain O'Hara had gone out recently to the Navy yards to check–out the progress on the ships, they were moving along nicely. Ships during the American Civil War Throughout the Civil War the South was Favoured to win the War because of certain advantages; but with certain new unknown types of battles that started such as naval battles, and improvements to the ships of the Navy can be linked to why the North became the victor of the Civil War. For centuries before the Civil War, large naval battles had not changed dramatically. Battle in the times before the Civil War were fought by wooden, sail–driven ships carrying as many cannon as possible, which would shoot at each other until one of them became so damaged that it could not keep up the fight. In the decade before the Civil War, however, major developments in naval technology forever changed the face of naval warfare. Even though the South was thought to have the advantage over the North the North was able to take advantage of the new technologies that were coming out to actually bring them a victory that set precedents that would last till the present day. The Civil War lasted for four years, from 1861–1865. It was between the northern states and the southern states. The South was called the Confederate States of America and was led by President Jefferson Davis. The North was still the Union, and was led by president Abraham Lincoln. However, honor and morals sometimes get confused during the time of war. The Navy sometimes names their ships after war heroes for their actions and bravery. However, shouldn't the military do that for all veterans alive or dead? Some veterans don't even get the honor and respect they earned for serving their country. When Veteran's Day became an official holiday in the United States, Americans honored them by giving out discounts or free items for that day. Disjointed Mission Command repeatedly prevented the Allies from capitalizing on the Allies' collective combat power. On the ground, neither LTG Patton's 7th Army nor Montgomery's 8th Army understood that the true center of gravity for the campaign lay in defeating the German forces and preventing their withdrawal. Instead, the 7th Army and 8th Army sacked one town after another and got mired in various embattlements, which gave the Germans enough time to withdraw to Italy in significant numbers. This strategic blunder was a direct result of the lack of understanding. It ended Spanish ruling in the Americas and resulted in the expansion of territories in the Pacific and Latin America for the US. During this period of imperialism, there were many influences driving the U.S. government. The war started with Cuba struggling to gain their independence from Spain. However, Spain rejected their notions by brutally stopping the Cuban rebellion. Newspapers began portraying Spain as spiteful and the sympathy for the Cuban rebels rose in America. William Randolph Hearst was responsible for exaggerating the truth in the papers about the fight for independence from Spain. Hearst invented a term called "yellow journalism", which exploits, distorts, or exaggerates the news to attract readers. A truce was called and Spain allowed Cuba to have limited power of self– government. Nevertheless, the demand for the US to intervene with the conflict grew and it resulted in the sinking of the USS Maine in the Havana Harbor in Cuba. The battleship had an explosion that resulted in 260 sailors dead. The explosion was thought to have been caused by the Spanish even though it was never proven. This led to the start of the war. We were at war almost thirty years before, so how did it come upon these two superpower nations to collide once again? A few answers to these questions will put the war of 1812 and the Battle of the Chesapeake Bay in its proper context. Shortly following the Revolutionary War, America built one of the strongest merchant fleets the world had ever seen. Overseas trade flourished America's economy, with its peak specifically in 1807 with exports ranging around $100 million (Hickey). Throughout this period of growth for America, Great Britain's Royal Navy was without a doubt the master of the high seas. Not helping the future war, Thomas Jefferson was elected into office in 1801 and one of his most notable actions was to shrink the Navy and Military significantly. The homelands defense now laid in the hands of a small fleet of mainly gunboats. They did have a few capital ships, however their primary tasks were to remain as the "floating fortress" of vital eastern seaboard ports. Only quite rarely did they ever see open water conflict. • 30. Junior Sailor's Life After My Navy Like many young sailor coming out of boot camp, when I heard the words talk to "THE CHIEF" I had that picture in my head of that mean scruffy old sailor that drinks at least four cups of coffee and spent an ridiculous amount of time thinking of new ways to make junior sailor's lives miserable. How ever throughout my career I realized that a chief is more than that. They are mentors, teachers, a shoulder to cry on and for some a father figure I met many Chiefs throughout my Naval career, some good and some bad. Many of them had a positive impact on my Naval. But there was one individual who took the time to mold and mentor not just as a junior sailor but also as a man and made the word "CHIEF" take on an entirely different meaning. I first I reported to my command that Saturday morning; the base was a ghost town because the command was still moving from Alameda California to Corpus. My friend Thomas who I met on the plane on the way to Corpus was one of the first to arrive and we were told that my division already arrived and will we will check in on Monday. We met two guys from the division and Thomas asked about Chief. One of the guys named Cooper said that people outside of the division thought Chief was mean and grumpy and didn't like to talk to people how ever the way Cooper described him you would think he as a magician who can perform miraculous feats without spilling his morning coffee. That Monday Thomas and I stood in front of his office in our brand new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Zumwalt–class destroyer design included a tumblehome hull, which is an inverted bow. The tumblehome hull had two big benefits. First being that is cut through the waves instead of riding them. Secondly and most importantly the design This technology included the use of composite radar–absorbing materials and a unique hull reducing the ability to be detected by opposing radars, which has been stated to reduce the radar cross–section (RCS) by returning much less energy than a conventional flare hull form. "The U.S. Naval Institute stated "the original design of the ship would have had a much smaller RCS, but cost considerations prompted the Navy over the last several years to make the trades in increasing RCS to save money..." The first ship built was named Zumwalt for Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, and is identified with DDG– 1000 . The original plan was to have 32 ships built with a $9.6 billion cost for research and development for the Zumwalt class. As the project ran on the cost of the project started to rise exponentially and was reduced to 24, then to 7, and finally to 3. Which increased the cost–per–ship to $3.96 billion ... • 32. The 's Leadership Style During World War II William Frederick Halsey, Jr., was the South Pacific Fleet Admiral during World War II, His passion for naval aviation helped save the community and provide national support from the American people back home. He was the major source of moral during the war for the American people, and always produced results whenever and wherever it was needed. Although Halsey's leadership style has been disputed more often than not, his decisions and role as Fleet Admiral during World War II served greatly in the American victory over Japan. HALSEY HELPED TIP THE BALANCE OF POWER IN THE PACIFIC DURING THE EARLY STAGES OF WORLD WAR II DURING 1942–1943, AND ESTABLISH THE IMPORTANCE OF AVIATION AS A COMMUNITY IN THE NAVY. William Halsey was raised with the influence of the Navy from birth. He was born on October 30th, 1882 in New Jersey into a military family. His father was an officer in the Navy, and a distant relative, Captain John Halsey, served as an English privateer during Queen Anne's war 1703– 1713. Halsey was essentially born into the navy, and was influenced by the service at such a young age. His boldness outspoken nature was first demonstrated at an early age when he had trouble receiving admission into the United States Naval Academy, and did not want to accept no for an answer. • 33. How the Battle of Midway was the Turning Point of WW2 for... In May of 1942, Japanese Admiral Isorosku Yamamoto devised a plan to draw the US Pacific fleet into battle where he could completely destroy it. To accomplish this master plan of his, he sought out the invasion of Midway Island which would provide a base for the Japan troops to attack Hawaii. Unfortunately for Yamamoto, America decrypted Japanese radio transmissions and Admiral Chester Nimitz was able to establish a counter attack against this offensive. Nimitz sent three aircraft carriers, The USS Enterprise, The USS Hornet and The USS Yorktown to destroy the Japanese. This is just a short overview of The Battle of Midway, or as commonly referred to as, the battle that changed the war. People argue that it had no affect on the war, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was a severe psychological shock to the nation of Japan. The Army thought Japan's main interest was in the war in China and defending Manchuria against the Soviet Union. Its support for the Navy's southern strategy was limited due to the fact that it conflicted with its interests and was the reason many Army divisions were willing to divide. This indifference was the decline of the influence of the Naval General Staff over the planning of naval strategy of the Combined Fleet under Admiral Yamamoto. This was in due to the personality of Yamamoto and his low opinion of the Chief of the Naval General Staff, as well as his opinion after the success of the attack on Pearl Harbor . What might have been a major strategic opportunity wound up being nothing, as the Germans offered no proposals for joint operations under the new Tripartite Axis agreement. It was important that the Japanese lure the remainder of the US Pacific Fleet to battle around Midway and that the Imperial Navy achieve a strategic victory as Yamamoto believed that Japan could then offer peace to the United States from a position of strength. Yamamoto added Carrier Division 5 to the naval forces assigned to the operation which increased the risks to the Midway operation. The Combined Fleet plan was finalized and presented to the Naval General Staff on April 2. Yamamoto played the resignation card as he strongly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This battle was important for a few reasons. It consisted of a carrier versus carrier battle which was the first in history as neither Japan nor the United States detected each other at sea. (Tulley.,2005). Considering neither side actually won this battle, it was considered a turning point in the Pacific. For the first time, the Allies had stopped the Japanese advance. Then again, the Japanese had some victories while they still experienced a series of losses. These defeats included Midway one month later, which was a major United States victory. Moreover, a few months after the Japanese attack on the United States at Pearl Harbor and almost a month before the battle at Midway, the Battle of the Coral Sea was one of the first aircraft carrier related conflicts that was conducted in the Pacific during World War II. The Battle of the Coral Sea resulted in being a game changer in the Pacific. Main Body During the Pacific war, the Battle of Midway has been known as a key battle in the Pacific. Ever since the first time Eugene Burton Ely completed the very first take–off and landing from a warship on the 18th of January, 1911, the future of the Navy had drastically changed. Little did Ely know that in a mere fifty years Naval Aviation would have a major contribution to the United States winning World War II. Captain Charles F. Pond exclaimed that Ely's feat was "the most important landing of a bird since the dove flew back to the ark." This flight planted the importance of air power in the minds of naval thinkers, including Admiral Bradley A. Fiske whom started looking for ways to make naval aircraft fighting machines. In the start of World War I no nation had imagined a ship to where planed could land and take off from, such as an aircraft carrier. The Naval Act of 1916 provided $500 million for items such as battleships, battle cruisers, and submarines. There had been not one mention of funding naval air. However many advancements came during World War I that would affect not just the United States Navy, but the rest of the world for multiple generations to come. Great was leading the charge with having produced two functioning aircraft carriers by 1918. There was no other nation that had even produced one yet. However Japan was the first to build a aircraft carrier from the keel up, meaning that it was not a converted battleships like the previous aircraft carriers. Naval air power built up to 160,000 officers and men, as well as 500 aircraft and 26 naval stations as World War I brought the United States Navy's 1st Aeronautical Detachment to Europe. Brigadier General "Billy" Mitchell, the chief of the United States Army Air Service, gave naval aviation a boost after conducting several tactics for bombing ships. • 36. Essay It Takes Warships and Commandos to Fight Pirates on... In the last decade, piracy at sea has been a common headline in news publications around the world. News from cargo ships hijacked and their crews kidnapped for ransom off the coast of Africa almost seem to be an everyday cry for action from the international community. This illegal activity, common since the first merchant vessels sailed the seas many centuries ago, has been a problem that civilization has yet to resolve. However, the maritime shipping industry and the world's most invested countries in maritime trade have responded effectively to these attacks in the past few years by taking matters into their own hands. Specifically, many countries around the world have been deploying anti–piracy naval task forces to piracy "hot spots" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They understand that their skiffs and small weapons are no real match against the manpower, firepower, and endurance of a naval vessel. At the same time, these criminals also understand that anti–piracy navy operations are expensive and cannot cover the entire Gulf of Aden. "Once pirates get control of a ship, it is very unusual for naval forces to be able to intervene successfully; the risks to the ship's crew are too high" says Hughes (2013, para. 10). With this in mind, shipping companies approached this problem with a hands–on strategy. To put it differently, naval patrols off the coast of Somalia have not been as effective against piracy as expected. Consequently, the maritime shipping industry turned to the private security industry for a solution. As a result, most ships that transit piracy "hot spots" like the Gulf of Aden have armed security teams on board, much like mercenaries. According to Rix (as cited in "Tide turns against pirates," 2013), ships provided with an armed security detail have never been successfully hijacked. The fight is always short when pirates attack armed cargo ships. In the vast majority of cases, the commandos onboard repel pirate attacks without major difficulties due to their "higher ground" position, tactical training, and better weapons. A simple show of force or an occasional warning shot is normally enough for pirates to back down. In essence, taking the fight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
