LESSON: MIXTURES

5th GRADE
UNIT: MATTER
Cal Music School
INTRODUCTION
Once a week, 5th grade students do one hour and a half of Science Project.
During all Once a week, 5are working the Unit of Matter. hour and they talked
the trimester, they th grade students do one Previously,
about matter, propperties of matter, states of matter, change of state, pure
substances and mixtures and types of mixtures.
In this Lesson students are going to experiment with homogeneous and
heterogeneous mixtures.

Background Information:
The lesson will be implemented in the classroom. Ones per week, we implement Science
Project with half of the students of the class. The session are of 1 hour and 30 minutes. During
the trimester we are going to do the Didactic Unit of Matter.

REFLECTIONS

The experience was very positive and I have
learnt a lot because I have never introduced
experiments in my Sciences lessons.
First, students were expectant because they
saw all the material prepared in the tables. It
was a bit difficult to relax them and create a
good atmosphere.
If I have to repeat the activity I will talk about
the experiments in previous lessons in order to
avoid the nervous atmosphere of the class.
I was surprised about the time because we
didn't have problems with timing.
Concerning to the language, in general, they
used English. I am very proud of them because
I think that they make a big effort in Science
Project classes.

Mixtures Lesson Teaches 5th Graders About Homogeneous and Heterogeneous

  • 1. LESSON: MIXTURES 5th GRADE UNIT: MATTER Cal Music School
  • 2. INTRODUCTION Once a week, 5th grade students do one hour and a half of Science Project. During all Once a week, 5are working the Unit of Matter. hour and they talked the trimester, they th grade students do one Previously, about matter, propperties of matter, states of matter, change of state, pure substances and mixtures and types of mixtures. In this Lesson students are going to experiment with homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures. LESSON PLAN Title of the Lesson: Mixtures Unit of Study: Matter Level and group 5thGrade Date: 28-01-2014 Number of children 12 Background Information: The lesson will be implemented in the classroom. Ones per week, we implement Science Project with half of the students of the class. The session are of 1 hour and 30 minutes. During the trimester we are going to do the Didactic Unit of Matter.

Knowledge of, and interaction with the physical world. to do an experiment to do some mixtures to learn what a mixtures is to see the difference between homgeneous and heterogeneous mixtures to read instructions in English to use English to communicate to use English explain a simple experiment to write a simple text to read simple texts in English Assessment: - Assess the knowledge of the students in the conversation before the experiments. C4. Competence in information and - Assess the capacity of follow the instructions of communication technologies the experiments. - Assess the capacity of analyze the results. - Assess the the presentation to the group (language and knowledge). Giving 5 minutes instructions Teacher forms 3 groups of 4. She/he explains that each group must consult a web page with an experiment, does the experiment, reflects on it, completes a card about it and prepares a presentation to the big group explaining it. T-Ss L-S-I 3. Development The group goes to the computer and reads the experiment. They prepare the experiment and do it. They complete the card and prepare the presentation.   • 8. PRESENTATIONS REFLECTIONS The experience was very positive and I have learnt a lot because I have never introduced experiments in my Sciences lessons. First, students were expectant because they saw all the material prepared in the tables. It was a bit difficult to relax them and create a good atmosphere. If I have to repeat the activity I will talk about the experiments in previous lessons in order to avoid the nervous atmosphere of the class. I was surprised about the time because we didn't have problems with timing. Concerning to the language, in general, they used English. I am very proud of them because I think that they make a big effort in Science Project classes.
