Speed Of Sound Lab Report
A major error in the experiment is due to the measurement of the resonant point from the meniscus
of the water to the phone generating the sound since it is difficult to get a precise measurement
between the two objects. A common issue was aligning the meter stick with the phone so the meter
stick would not make a 90 angle with the table. As a result, many of the wavelength measurements
are slightly above or below its theoretical length. This would have skewed the data and made the
experimental line of best fit different from the theoretical line of best fit since the data may be
higher than it should theoretically be at one point, and lower than it should theoretically be at
another point. Thus, it would likely result in a line of best fit that deviates than that of the theoretical
relationship. When the line is different, the slope would likely be different as well (random error), so
the speed of sound that is obtained from graph 2 would differ from the theoretical speed of sound.
This would be a random error since these errors are unpredictable and cannot be replicated. To
prevent this random error and increase precision, one can perform more trials to eliminate outliers or
random errors. When the more precise data is graphed, the data would likely form a straighter line
that has a slope of approximately 344 because 344m/s is the speed of sound in air in the same
temperature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of hearing being off, the is a series of random errors. The errors due to detection of
sound have the same effect on the experimental line of best fit as the inaccurate measurement of
resonance point since they are both random errors. A way to increase accuracy would be to use a
decibel meter to measure where the resonance (volume) is greatest. Another way to increase
accuracy would be to also perform more

Health Care, Preventative Medicine, And Wellness Programs
The traditional meaning of progress is advancing toward any specific goal. A goal can vary from a
promotion at work or purchasing a home to starting a family or learning to speak a foreign language.
Considering the variations in goals, how then is progress measured? Can it be universal?
Unrestricted? Or is it personal and exclusive? The term 'progress' fluctuates in meaning depending
on who the term is being applied to in addition to the sense in which it is being discussed.
Medically, technologically, and socially are some manners that progress affects larger and
increasingly immense populations; nevertheless, there are countless other forms of progress, both
individual and world–wide. On a universal scale, diverse groups of people uniting and approaching
a common target is progress. Because progress is never truly achieved, rather, the goal simply
changes, evolution and growth are everlasting. A countless multitude of achievements have been
actualized across the globe and an infinite many more will be realized in the future. Health care,
preventative medicine, and wellness programs have extended to a considerable mass of
underprivileged countries; meanwhile, larger and wealthier nations have engineered numerous
advancements in the medical field. Assorted technologies have assisted in said improvements. Not
only have these developments encouraged the medical field in generating improvements, but have
also employed distinct techniques to better connect people across the

Personal Reflection Essay
As the first five weeks of Writing 39B have passed, I believe that I have made some improvements
in my writing as a result of the feedback from the professor, the multiple writing assignments, and
reading the Anteater's Guide to Writing and Rhetoric. Although I can still improve in all facets of
my writing, the progress I have made so far was very much needed. One of the stages of my
development took place in class. Although I was a bit reluctant and shy to participate at times in
class, I learned a lot. The way the professor analyzed the 9/11 conspiracy video and some of the
chapters in the "The United States of Paranoia" taught me how to see the author's purpose in
creating the text and how the author appealed to the audience by presenting the text in different
mediums. The mini group work done almost daily in class also helped me think more analytically
about each text, which helped me writing my final RA. One of the class works was analyzing the
opening paragraph of "The Metamorphis" by Franz Kafka. This task allowed me to see how the
author's word choice can change the complete tone of the text and how the audience reacts
differently to each type of tone. At the times in which I did participate, I felt that I contributed
valuable information as the professor would usually expand on my comment in a positive way. In
addition, participating also allowed me to feel confident about my ideas and thought process which
enabled me to feel confident writing my assignments. From the very first RIP assignment, the
feedback I've received helped in aiding my final RA. Prior to this class, I didn't truly know how to
be specific. Whether this be with a claim or audience, I was describing things broadly. In my RIP
#1, where I had to identify a specific group with a shared interest. The group that I created was
students in high school or college who are obsessed with social media. With the feedback, I learned
that I could've made it more specific by choosing just high school students not including college
student and only Snapchat, and no other social media platforms. Moving on, a drastic change in my
writing can be seen in the differences between CR #1 and CR #2. In CR #1, I explain that the author

Fiji Influence On Society
At first working with a group of four proved to be a bit difficult. It was tricky to find something that
we all had in common we had four totally different people. Two of them coming from the other side
of the globe. Devantchi had just arrived two weeks earlier when I met her. Tony left his home in
China at the age of 15 to attended school. Ky has been the glue in our group. She has been at
Greenriver now for almost two years. It was nice to have someone who knew what to do and expect.
This group project ended up being a great way to meet other members of the class and when we met
up to work on our project we got to know each other. Since this is my first quarter the other
members of my group were completely invaluable. They showed ... Show more content on

Ive reflected on this for a few days now. I realized that if I am drawn to the past and want to know
those stories. Then I need to be aware of the present. I can't just study history without truly
understanding the workings of today's judicial system and society. The past leads into the future and
some day today will be history. Taking this class has made me want to become more educated in the
workings of our political system. I want to carefully read and understand what is going on in this
country. I'm now truly concerned with where we are as a nation. I want to know where our money
goes, what kind of laws are trying to be passed and what kind of laws already exists that I am
unaware of. I feel like I have been woken up to a state of awareness of my surroundings. I think the
best way that I can facilitate change right now is to educate myself and children so that when I send
them out into the world or at the very least to your classroom they will go in having a wider range of
sight then I had.
The knowledge that I've gained in coming to this class and doing the group project has been
wonderful. I am seriously soaking in all of this information and love learning about history. I came
into this experience wondering if I could do it. I didn't even tell anyone in my extended family I was
going to school. Now that I'm nearing the end of the first semester I can see the growth. I can feel
the confidence building. I feel like something

Essay on moral compass
In my past 18 years, I have been living in an environment that people telling me what should I do
and what should I not to do. My mum taught me to be a good role model for my younger sister, my
dad told me to study hard so I can have a good future. By going to school, teachers teach me that
what is 'right' and 'wrong' from the textbook and I have also been learning that from the TV,
newspaper and radio. The mass media is always a channel for me to receive what is 'right' and
'wrong' about the social. For example, there are critics about the politics, environmental issues

Now, I have to behave well in front of my sister. My moral compass tells me what to do as a good
sister and this always stop me from what I really want to do in my heart. It upsets me because 'role
model' has become a burden for me to do something I really like. For example, I would like to learn
street dance but my mother rejected it with not to affect adversely on my sister. She thought that I
should put more effort on studying but not something which is not related to academic. In school, I
am the pianist of the school choir and I am responsible for the playing the piano part in different
occasion. When I was in form 1, I was told to be the pianist for the Speech Day and it really affected
my life in secondary school a lot. Since all the pianists playing in Speech Day were in Form 5
before, I became the youngest pianist ever in my school. People questioned why I can stand on the
stage because they think I am not qualified for that. I would like to do my best every time on stage
so that people would agree with me and understand the effort that I have paid. As a result, I have
tremendous pressure as my moral compass tells me to perform well before going out to perform as
there are a lot of people looking at me and I would want to show them I am excellent player.

When Childrens Knowledge Of Memory Improves Children's...
The authors, Marie Geurten, Corinne Catale, and Thierry Meulemans, of When Children's
Knowledge of Memory Improves Children's Performance in Memory were primarily interested in
find a better way for children to communicate what they understand about their own metamemory.
Before this study, metamemory in adults was studied extensively but due to children's lack of ability
to assess their own memory this area little research or appropriate measuring tools exist for children.
With adults, it is appropriate to use direct methods to measure memory capacity, internal and
external strategies, and factors that affect memory. In a previous studies, problematic screenplays
were used to measure children's metamemory. But these studies underestimated ... Show more

The way the children's responses were recorded was adapted so that knowledge of internal strategy,
knowledge of external strategy and knowledge of general memory function could be measured. The
answers were recorded so that they could be scored by independent evaluator. In the second study,
128 children were picked from the first phase. The children were given a clustering recall test,
basically twelve words that they were asked to recall. They were also asked to remember them by
category. This created two clustering ratios, a semantic one and a serial clustering ratio. This was a
free recall test. The results for the combined study after the data was analyzed indicate that the
hypothesis is correct for the three–factor model and developmental stability was present. Factors in
children's metamemory were revealed for the first time showing that there are multiple constructs
rather than a unitary construct. The children were using different kinds of knowledge as they
performed the tasks given them in the study. The three–factor scale is a helpful tool that can be used
to evaluate metamemory throughout childhood with reliability.
In this experimental study, the authors made progress on the study and scientific understanding of
children's development of metamemory. They measured the children's knowledge of internal
strategy, knowledge of external strategy, and knowledge of general memory function.

The Pilgrim 's Progress By John Bunyan
The Pilgrim's Progress written by John Bunyan was a very deep and touching story to me. After
reading it and trying to interpret what it was saying I decided that I could actually relate more to this
story than I realized through my faith as a follower of Jesus Christ. John Bunyan uses a dream of the
main character, Christian, to describe a life changing event for Christian to grow spiritually while
traveling and meeting new people and having first time experiences. The Pilgrims Progress is an
allegory to the Bible and Christianity that portrays what we as Christians believe in. Bunyan uses
the pilgrimage of Christian to express this allegory using the experiences and people Christian
comes into contact with to explore the struggles and challenges of life on earth Christians faces
daily when seeking eternal life. The first challenge Christian faces is his guilt. As a Christian, I was
always taught right from wrong according to the Bible and when I am in the wrong for something, I
feel guilty because I know it is wrong and that it is not necessarily how God wants me to live my
life or what he wants from me. The guilt arises because I am promised eternal greatness after my life
here on earth as long as I believe in Jesus Christ and I continue to strive to be a Christian, and well
lets face it, who would not feel guilty being promised such an amazing thing in exchange for being a
good person and following the biblical scripture of Christ. "I dreamed, and behold, I saw a man

Measuring Progress as it Relates to Technological Advances
Take a look around the world we live in today. It is filled with millions of different technologically
intricate devices. We have cell phones that allow us to talk to anyone anywhere. We can listen to
music on the go with CD and MP3 players. We can learn, interact, communicate and work using
personal computers. Cars, public transit and airplanes can efficiently transport us to our far off
destinations. It seems every aspect of our daily lives is affected by some sort of
technological/scientific device. Advertisements from the makers of the new technologies tell us that
all of these new innovations are good and must be bought to ensure the best life possible. ... Show

The new technologies and its profits fell into the hands of those that created it, thus growing a huge
interest in technological innovation. And in effect, Teich tells us that "as industrialization proceeded,
these men became true believers in technological improvement as the primary basis for universal
progress" (7). This new idea of progress said that if one can guarantee the advancement of new
scientific technologies, then the remaining parts of life will be taken care of in turn. This placed
values like freedom, justice, beauty, self–fulfillment and harmony to "secondary status" (8). In
response to this change in values, "romantic" writers commented that the new machine power is
superficial, object–oriented and egotistical. The new inventions were "improved means to
unimproved ends" (10). The new powerful machines were considered a form of "idolatry like that
attacked by the Old Testament prophets in a disguised, new–fashioned form" (10). The two sides
have now been brought back to the table in recent years, and Albert Teich believes that "we urgently
need a set of political, social, and cultural goals comparable to those formulated at the beginning... if
we are to accurately assess the worth of new technologies" (11).
To go with what Teich has told us, we should consider the ends of the current ICTs that inhabit our
society right now. The Internet is considered a limitless source

Question: What is the slope of "C vs d" line? What does it represent? The slope of the "C vs d" line,
according to the above graph, is 3.2548. This represents a ratio between the circumference and the
diameter of a round object. Being that I used imprecise measuring devices my measurements are a
little off. Although my ratio seems consistent in my graph. With a more accurate measuring device
my measurement would be closer to π.

The Use Of Metal Detectors In School Shootings
School shootings have been on the rise in the United States since the early 80's, questioning the
safety and security of schools all across the country. Lots of ideas have come up for trying to keep
weapons out of schools but the idea of having metal detectors has stuck and on paper seems to be a
viable option for schools but in real use they have lots of issues. One of the biggest problems with
using metal detectors in public schools will be cost. Cost affects many different things to do with the
metal detectors, two of the major factors being proper trained staff and paying for repairs. Another
issue with metal detectors are they are slow, make kids late to class and also make kids dread going
to school in the morning. There could be compromises made like alternative options like random
checks or quick pat downs but getting rid of this style of security would be better all together. Metal
detectors should not be used in schools because they make students late to class, cause anxiety and
are too expensive to be used in public schools. Metal detectors are making kids tired and late to
class because the process is so lengthy. Ms. Dunley, a teacher who works at a school where metal
detectors are being used says "She marks several people late everyday because they are being held
up by the metal detector". The time that is being consumed by the metal detectors not only wastes
class time but kids have to arrive hours before school to wait in line to get passed the metal

The Pilgrim's Progress Essay
The Pilgrim's Progress
The author of The Pilgrim's Progress is well described by Coleridge's remark: "His piety was baffled
by his genius; and Bunyan the dreamer overcame the Bunyan of the conventicle." This remark
points out the difficulty that Bunyan faces when he attempts to write a religious piece of work in the
style of allegory. The Pilgrim's Progress is "pious" because it is a piece written in dedication to God.
It contains important religious teachings –– what a good Christian should do and what he should not
do. What Coleridge means by Bunyan's "genius" is basically the story itself. The story is so well
written that people become so interested in the story and forget the whole spiritual truth behind and
this worry Bunyan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People at his time indulged in plays and drama for purely earthly pleasure. This is opposed by the
Puritans since it is regarded as a kind of corruption and that one could be extracted from the
direction to God. But Bunyan justified that if these things are done for God, they could be accepted.
The phrase "I have used similitudes" that appeared at the original cover–page of the book explains
the use of similes, metaphors and other figures of language. God Himself also speaks in figurative
language, not in plain language. Bunyan is going to use similitude to tell the Christians what they
should do. It is therefore not for pure enjoyment to read this book. The aim of this book is to teach a
religious lesson and ask people to learn from it. Bunyan went on to justify what he did by saying
that God had allowed him to do so. He clarified that he was not writing to please anyone and that it
should never be used as a way to show off one's ability. He also reminded people that they had to
interpret the Bible for themselves for God is not always clear in what he says. The story opens as a
dream and this is significant because it is the way that God speaks to his prophets. Bunyan somehow
felt himself like a modern version of prophet and he is determined to write about his vision. The
word "I" has been used at the opening of the story and all throughout, and this is significant since
this "I" (the dreamer) can be anyone of us. There is a strong sense of

Precision And Accuracy Lab Report
Determining the Density of a Polystyrene Sphere with Precision and Accuracy
Abstract: The objective of the lab is to determine the volumes of the polystyrene spheres with three
different measuring tools: Water Displacement, Analytical Scale, and Triple Beam Balance Scale.
The experiment is meant to help understand the concept and application of precision and accuracy
in experimental measurements. Accuracy is a measure of how closely the results of repeated
measurements are to the true value of what is being measured. Precision is the variability in the
results from the repeated measurements, and how close the repeated measurements were to one
another. In this lab, the method for measuring the volume of the polystyrene spheres is done with
the previously stated tools: Water Displacement, Analytical Scale, and Triple Beam Balance Scale.
The standard deviation for the entire classes volumes and masses are recorded to determine the
densities.
Introduction: Accuracy and precision were the major aspects of the lab. Accuracy is how close the
average of the measured values are to the actual value. Precision is the closeness of repeated
measurements. In the lab, the aim was to get as close as possible with both accuracy and precision
when determining the mass and volume of the spheres. The mass was determined by weighing the
spheres on the Analytical Scale and Triple Beam Balance Scale. The volume is determined by
measuring with a ruler and by water displacement. The standard

Accuracy And Precision Lab
In this experiment, accuracy and precision were measured through the density of water (H2O).
Accuracy is defined by how close the result comes to the true value. Precision refers to how close
two or more measurement are to each other. A volumetric flask, graduated cylinder, pipet, and buret
were used to measure the water. A balance was used to measure the grams of each trail. Ten
milliliter was the volume of the H2O that was used for each trial. Two trials of each equipment was

As a matter of fact the US provides greater access to children of low economic status with programs
such as head start other government programs. This access extends even to those who have mental
and physical handicaps as well. The US first enacted compulsory education in Massachusetts in
1852 but similar laws were passed in the colonies as early as 1647. Many of the initial laws were
passed to combat child labor, Which interestingly the author also notes as a primary factor affecting
women and children's health. The US not only has laws mandating education between age 6–16 in
almost all state, it has strict enforcement of these laws and therefore high compliance. The US today
continues to be leader with regard to access to education .
For many countries which have laws even on the federal and constitution level providing for
education, access to children continues to be an issue worldwide and many countries fall short with
regard to actual implementation of these laws often for social and economic reasons. For example
many countries in sub–Saharan Africa have laws which are to provide education for all students,
however due to transportation issues and other socioeconomic reasons many children do not receive
the education they desperately need. Many child must stay at home and help with the family farm or
business. There are no

Oil And Gas Industry During The 19th Century Industrial...
In the old days, instrumentation and measurements were needed only in the transfer of goods and
for consistency of the exchanges. The 19th century industrial revolution brought much development
in instrumentation to serve the industrial needs of process variables measurement. The last few years
of the 20th century (because of the new innovations and development in electronics) resulted in new
instruments and measurement techniques, which are implemented in the oil and gas industry.
Instrumentation and measurement are very essential in oil and gas upstream, midstream, and
downstream. Upstream refers to the exploration of both underground and underwater crude oil and
natural gas fields, as well as drilling of exploratory wells, and ... Show more content on

There are two methods used to measure level of liquid; direct methods and indirect methods. Direct
methods of level measurement measures the height above a zero point by different methods. By
definition, direct methods for level measurement are mainly used where level changes are small and
slow such as in sump tanks and bulk storage tanks, this method actual level is monitored. It is
simple to use and reliable and not costly. These methods are safe because they are suitable to
hazardous areas. So they are highly recommended in oil and gas level measurement. There are four
types of direct level measurement devices. The 1st is the Dipstick and Dip–Rods: Is a method that
has been around for hundreds of years. Our ancestors used to insert a long pole into a river or canal
then pull it out and the wetted part was used to determine the depth. Today they do the same thing
but with a long metal rod that has been dipped into a vessel. The rod is stopped either at the top of
the vessel by a protruding flange on the rod, or at the bottom of the vessel when the tip of the rod
reaches the bottom. When the rod is withdrawn, the wet/dry interface can be clearly seen and the
level determined from a scale on the rod (Image 2). The 2nd is Weighted Gauge Tape: similar to the
dipstick the weighted gauge tape is used in deep vessels and tanks where the dipstick cannot reach

Measuring The Volume And Mass Of A Cylinder, A Sphere And...
Objective This experiment will involve measuring the volume and mass of a cylinder, a sphere and a
wooden block. Based on the mass and volumes of these objects, the density of these objects can be
calculated. The equation for the density of an object is density =mass/volume. In the density
equation there is a direct proportional relationship between the mass of an object and its volume.
For instance, if an object has its mass decreased, its volume will also decrease.
The experiment used a Vernier caliper to measure the height and the diameter of a cylinder. A
Vernier caliper was also used to measure the diameter of the sphere. A meter stick was used to
measure the length, width, and height of the wooden block. The precision of an instrument such as a
Vernier caliper or a meter stick determines how many significant figures the data is presented in.
The mass of the objects being tested will be measured using an electronic balance. The equations
used in this experiment to determine the volumes were the volume of the cylinder: πr2h; volume of
the block: (length)*(width)*(height); and the volume of the sphere: (4π/3) (r3). The volumes of
these objects will be divided by their respective masses to determine the density of each object.
The final part of the experiment will involve using a micrometer caliper to estimate how many
pages are present in the physics lab manual. Accuracy in this experiment will be seen when the
calculated density of the various objects in

What is the difference between wax paper and parchment paper? Provide an example of when and
why you would use each one? The main difference between the wax paper and the parchment paper
is their coating which dictates their use.Wax paper is coated with waxy materials such as soybean or
paraffin while parchment paper is coated with either silicone or quilon.
The coating of the parchment paper makes it non–stick and heat resistant which allow it to be ideal
for any cooking methods that involves heat such as baking. It could be used to line pans or baking
trays. It could also be reused which makes it more economical and practical to purchase.
Meanwhile, the wax paper is best used for any activities that would only require room and/or cooler
temperature. Its waxy covering allows it to be non–stick and prevent the loss of moisture of foods. It
is usually used for wrapping foods and for lining up trays when making foods that would be meant
for refrigeration. It could also be placed in countertops to reduce the mess while baking or cooking.
It is also disposable.
You open a can of tomatoes, but only use ½ of the can. Explain how you would store the rest of the

Ruler Drop Test Essay
The ruler drop test is used to measure a person's reaction time. Which is the time taken for an athlete
to react to a stimulus or an event.
The equipment needed to measure this is a 1–meter long ruler and a calculator.
The person to be tested stands near the edge of a table, resting their elbow on the table so that their
wrist is extended over the side. The assessor holds the ruler vertically in the air between the index
finger and thumb of the subject, but not touching. The zero mark should be lined by to the finger
and thumb. The subject should indicate that they are ready to the assessor. Without warning, release
the ruler and let it drop – the subject must catch it as quickly as possible as soon as they see it fall.

for example, if the opponent makes an advance on them if any physical way, the subject would need
to be able to move quick and make a decision on how to address the situation and defeat their
opponent.
The positives of this test are that it is very simplistic and can be conducted at any given time, with a
very small amount of equipment needed for this to be set up. Also, this test would not take long to
carry out.
However, an assistant is always needed as the ruler would need to be dropped by another person, so
the action would be sudden to make the results valid, and this test is not very valid as it can be seen
as too simplistic to accurately calculate the reaction time of an individual.
My result:7.4cm
After completing this test, my result showed that I had an excellent reaction towards a stimulus, and
would be very suitable for sports that would require me to react quickly, for example baseball would
be a suitable sport for me as I could react quickly when batting as once the ball has been bowled, I
would only have a short period of time to bat without getting a strike. if I began to play baseball,
and trained regularly I would be able to maintain a score that would stay in the excellent category.
However, if I did not train in this specific area, these results would decrease if this test was taken

External, Internal, And Construct Essay
Validity: External, Internal, and Construct
Internal validity measures what it intends to measure or, more generally, if it examines what it sets
out to examine. In effect, a valid study gives real answers to the research questions and provides a
real test of the hypotheses. According to Aken, Berends, and Bij (2007), "Internal validity concerns
conclusions about the relationship between phenomena. The results of a study are internally valid
when conclusions about relationships are justified and complete. Classical methodology has
particularly focused on the adequacy of conclusions about causal relationships. A conclusion about a
causal relationship is internally valid, when there are good reasons to assume that the proposed
relationship is adequate."
When researching the Tailored Adaptive Personality Assessment System (TAPAS) test, the goal of
which is to measure the narrow personality constructs that are known to predict outcomes in work
settings. The internal validity of this research deals with the extent to which the experiment actually
measures the relationship between the two variables. When considering the research this
hypothetical situation, one can envision a number of threats to internal validity. The threats include
the use of future soldiers in an academic setting as surrogates for employees working in an
organization, the relatively short duration of the research as compared to the ongoing nature of
personal growth, and the ability of future soldiers

Equality Is The Central Point Of Discussion
Equality In America Throughout the history of America, equality has always been the central point
of discussion in society. Many believe that America has reached the point of equality where
everyone is equal. Obviously this is not the case, but we have made great strides to reach a world
where everyone is equal. However, America has made great improvements in making equality
relevant in todays society. Although contemporary society has succeeded in making "equality" a
reality, I claim that it has also failed in addressing this theme appropriately. America has always
been associated with the theme and value of equality. America's history is thick and rich with the
major theme of equality. For instance, the abolishment of slavery, which ... Show more content on

USAID quotes, "If we can erase these inequities and put women on equal footing with men– we
know we can unlock human potential on a transformational scale". The government agency's push
towards equality for women will not just benefit women, but many other people. For instance,
USAID quotes, "just by empowering women farmers with the same access to land, new
technologies and capital as men, we can increase crop yields by as much as 30 percent and feed an
additional 150 million people". This agency is a work in progress, but there mindset is on equality
for all, which is magnificent. Contemporary society has been able to keep the value of equality
relevant throughout America. The strides made by society in order to reach equality for all genders
is tremendous, yet society is still in the dark over equality in other areas. While society in America
has been able to keep the value of equal germane, it has also failed in making this value a reality.
Writer Joseph E. Stiglitz, author of the"Great Divide", quotes, "the gap between aspiration and
reality could hardly be wider". Stiglitz is pessimistic about the value of equality in America and how
it has been addressed. Stiglitz quotes, "Today, the United States has less equality of opportunity than
almost any other advanced industrial country, study after study has exposed the myth that America
is the land of opportunity". Now, Stiglitz is making a huge statement by saying that

Smoking Vs Grilling Research
If you want to become a grilling expert, it is important to learn about the two main ways to cook
over an open flame: smoking and grilling. What are their main differences? Is the flavor from one
different from the flavor from the other? We will consider these questions and more as we look at
smoking vs. grilling. What is the difference between smoking and grilling?
Smoking is an ancient method of preserving meats using smoke, indirect heat and low cooking
temperatures. The original reason for using this method had more to do with preserving the meat
than with flavor. These days, it is used mostly for the flavor and for making meat tender by breaking
down the connective tissue in it. Properly smoked meats acquire a smoke ring. This term refers to
the layer of meat just beneath the exterior. It is especially visible in ... Show more content on

Whereas the heat used to smoke meat is indirect and low, the heat used for grilling is direct and
high. Grilling is not so much about breaking down collagen and making meat tender as it is about
caramelizing the exterior and sealing in juices to keep the interior moist. What about taste?
The flavor of grilled meat versus the flavor slow–smoked meat is the basis of yet another big
culinary debate. Many chefs believe that the flavor of slow–smoked meat is superior to that of
grilled meat; however, it is possible to have best of both worlds with the use of wood chips or wood
chunks. The ideal wood for smoking is thought to come from certain species of fruit or nut trees.
Apple, peach and pecan woods are all thought to be excellent for slow–smoking meats. Can you get
a smoky flavor from grilling?
Yes, you can. One of the easiest ways to do this with a charcoal grilling is to add wood chips.
Simply toss a handful of chips onto your smoldering coals to create smoke that will flavor your
meat. You can also mix chunks of wood in with the coals to smoke meat for longer

What is the reliability of a measurement? What is the validity of a measurement? Can a
measurement be valid if it is not reliable? Explain.
Relaible measurment is the consistency of a set of measurements or of a measuring instrument,
often used to describe a test. Reliability is inversely related to random error. The validity of a
measurment is how accurate it is. Reliability does not imply validity. That is, a reliable measure is
measuring something consistently, but you may not be measuring what you want to be measuring.
For example, while there are many reliable tests of specific abilities, not all of them would be valid
for predicting, say, job performance. A common example often used to illustrate the difference
between reliability and validity in the experimental sciences involves a common bathroom scale. If
someone who is 200 pounds steps on a scale 10 times and gets readings of 15, 250, 95, 140, etc., the
scale is not reliable. If the scale consistently reads "150", then it is reliable, but not valid. If it reads
"200" each time, then the measurement is both reliable and valid. This is what is meant by the
statement, "Reliability is

The results of this lab helped determine which tools are best to measure different objects. In Station
1, a yellow metric ruler, an orange metric ruler, a wooden ruler, and a measuring tape was used. The
tool with the highest degree certainty was the orange metric ruler. This is because the orange ruler
had tick marks for each 10th(0.1). The tool with the lowest degree of certainty was the measuring
tape because it kept moving and it was difficult to keep it straight. For Station 2, a wall clock, a
digital stopwatch, and a timer was used. The tool that had the most accurate measurement was the
digital stopwatch because it measured into the 10th(0.1) place automatically. The tool that was least

The tool with the highest degree of certainty was the non–mercury thermometer because it didn't
have to be calibrated and there were tick marks to make the measurement more accurate. The tool
that had the smallest degree of certainty was the dial 2 thermometer because it very wide. This
caused the measurement to be harder to make. In Station 4, a spring scale, an electric balance, an
analytic balance, and a one pay balance was used. The most accurate tool was electric balance
because no calculations or estimations needed to be made. The least accurate tool was the spring
scale because the scale kept moving and block couldn't be measured without a basket carrying it,
making the measurement inaccurate. In Station 5, a graduated cylinder, a beaker, and an Erlenmeyer

there were more ticks. This made the measurement more accurate because the water level was closer
to the markings. The least accurate tool was the Erlenmeyer flask because the spaces between the

Gun Violence In America
Gun violence is a major problem. Various proposals have been offered by the lobbyists, politicians
and citizens to reduce including ban on assault rifles, military style riffles, some even went on to the
extent of shedding some worrisome over the second amendment because of the series of gun
violence in the country. No doubt that this is a challenging subject and it requires bold actions in
order to reduce the violence perpetrated by the wrongful use of gun that is now a days use to take
the life of not only adults but young kids in elementary school, home invaders use guns to kill
innocents, arm rubbers rub banks to get what they want, citizens on citizens crimes is becoming
rampant. This worried me so much, and I had to shed some suggestions that I think might be useful
or even considered in reducing gun violence. "From July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014, there were
a total of 48 student, staff, and other nonstudent school–associated violent deaths in the United
States, which included 26 homicides, 20 suicides, 1 legal intervention death, and 1 undetermined
violent death." NCES Data. In regards to this burning issue of gun violence, I have few suggestions
that I personally think will be helpful in combating and reducing the gun violence in our various
societies. Since us all as a citizen can be a victim of gun violence, then I have this believe that
certain solutions will help reduce the violence. For example, I would advocate for major public

John Stuart Mill Harm Principle
"The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized
community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others" [14]. In John Stuart Mill's On Liberty, his
"harm principle" addresses interference in other people's actions. He contends that the exercise of
power over others is only justified when preventing harm. It is important to keep in mind that some
harm is acceptable, but an action that infringes on another's interests should be prevented and
punished.
In accordance with Mill's description of his harm principle, the statement that "protecting liberty
through this principle prioritizes the development of individuality over social progress" is somewhat
valid. It is only somewhat valid because Mill prioritizes the self– development of the individual in
order to help society progress rather than instead of the progression of society. He believes that
freedom is designed to protect individualism and that in a state of nature there would be no social
contract because of the concept of social good. This concept conveys that because people receive
protection from society then they owe a specific behavior in return.
Mill justifies the conservation of originality with the object of personal wellbeing and societal good.
His justification reveals the way that, in preventing harm, he prioritizes the preservation of the
individual to better the progression of society.

Testing In Hospital Resuscitation
The primary research question of the study was "does testing as a final activity, in an in–hospital
resuscitation skills course, increase learning outcome compared with an equal amount of time spent
practicing?" (Kromann et al., 22). The primary independent variable for this study was the type of
final activity. This includes both the testing as the final activity and the equal time practicing as the
final activity. The IV was operationalized through two groups, a control group and an intervention
group. The control group and the intervention group were identical until the last thirty minutes.
During the last thirty minutes the intervention group each participant was tested individually, while
during the last thirty minutes of the control group the participants ran through a few scenarios. The
primary dependent variable was the assessment scores of a 25–item checklist. The DV was
operationalized through a 25–item checklist that was inspired by the Advanced Life Support Cardiac
Arrest Scenario Test. The participants were asset two weeks after the course had finished. The
participants were 140 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study states that it believes that testing in the intervention group will cause those participants to
do better than those in the control group. This turned out to be the case and why the study
established temporal precedence. The effect the two different groups had was due to them either
being tested for the last thirty minutes or not being tested. So, this means that the causal variable
came before the outcome which was different scores based on testing or not testing. I don't think
there is a third–variable problem. This is because the experiment left little room for the participants
to apply anything that could be considered a third–variable like having more knowledge. But, all the
participants had the same amount of learning in the medical fields and they all had the same amount

A worker has to go to the computer each time an operation is completed, and Joe's son wastes his
time recording mostly useless data. Screws are counted and delivered in marked bags, scrap wood is
recorded, etc.
The plan is rigid and is not focused on achieving a minimum but on not exceeding a maximum
deadline. The amount of work in progress is high and the planning does not factor that in. In this
particular case, a mistake at the beginning, when there is little work in progress, may not have much
of an impact or no impact at all because of the generous buffers. A mistake later, when the amount
of work in progress is high, may delay the work more than the buffers can compensate for.
a) Ralph suggests building only one section at a time – cellular manufacturing. In this case the
operation becomes so small that the planning and control system designed by Joe becomes
redundant.
b) The amount of work in progress is minimized. Fewer tools are needed. The parts do not have to

Staples Inc: Measuring Development and Progress
Staples, Inc: Measuring Development and Progress Staples, Inc. does business in many different
countries, but its home base of operations is in the United States (Staples, 2012). In order for the
company to do well in the US or abroad, however, the country in which it is located must be
growing and developing on its own terms and under its own power. Otherwise, there will not be a
customer base for the store to utilize and it would not make any sense for a company like Staples to
move into a country or community where there was no money to be made. That is simply bad
business. The most important indicator for measuring the developmental progress of a nation,
though, is whether the economy of the country (and the community) is growing and expanding.
When a community (or a large number of communities) is not doing well, that often speaks to the
entire country and its strengths. Staples can actually help communities it moves into, though, instead
of shunning areas where there is little economic development. By doing something of that nature,
companies like Staples show corporate ethics and social responsibility. Being socially responsible is
a very important way for companies to generate interest in communities, and can contribute to a
company performing well (Allenby & Krizov, 2004; De Pelsmacker, Driesen, & Rayp, 2005). When

Future Of Sensors : A Study Conducted By Intechno Consulting
Future of sensors
Trends
A study conducted by Intechno Consulting [ ] shows that the non–military, open market for sensors
grew from EUR 81.6 billion in 2006 to EUR 119.4 billion in 2011 and can be expected to grow to
EUR 184.1 billion until 2016. This equates to an annual average growth of 8.5%. Of the EUR 184.4
billion EUR global market for sensors in 2016, 9.7% will go to the machinery industries, 8.9% to
the process industries, and 22.8% to the vehicle industries including airplanes, ships and rail
vehicles.
The figures below show the declining market shares of Western Europe, in spite of Germany's
strong overall position in the sensors market. The main reason for this is the fact that Western
European sensor buyers are found mostly in the established industries, while the USA and Japan
lead in information and communication technology–the main growth sector for the future sensors
markets.

My Barroom Observation
In lieu of having the opportunity to measure a tall object, I decided that it would be interesting to
know the height of my barn because it was never identified. There are few steps to finding how tall
an item is, however, it is quite difficult to be completely accurate with the objects that I utilized.
First, I needed to build a clinometer with a straw, protractor, and string, which was used to find the
angle of elevation. "The angle of elevation is the angle formed by a horizontal line and a line of
sight to a point above the line"(Rehill), and in this specific scenario, the point is the top of the barn.
Furthermore, I then measured the distance from the barn to where I was standing and looked,
through the straw, to the top of it. I had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the answers that I got are reasonable because they do not seem too small and they are
quite average for an one and a half story building. Nevertheless, the height of the barn might be
inaccurate because errors could have a drastic impact on the final answer. To illustrate, the
measurements are the basis for the whole entire problem by reason that trigonometric ratios place
primary importance on them, so, therefore, if they are incorrect, then all of the resulting numbers
will be wrong. I struggled with obtaining the appropriate angle measurements because I had
problems with pinching the string at the correct place and viewing the necessary spot through the
straw. Also, if the calculations were amiss, then it would produce false numbers, which causes the
final answer to be off due to the legitimate figures not being incorporated. I had a problem with this
also as I did not set up the correct equations at first, which would give me faulty calculations and,
consequently, mess up my final answer. However, I quickly figured out that my equations were
incorrect, so, therefore, I did not experience any problems attributed to that exact reason. Another
problem that I faced was with building the clinometer itself due to the protractor being attached to a
geometric template and not aligning the straw correctly, but I just used my protractor as there was
no effect and I figured out how the straw needed to be

Why The Evm Is Not Used For A Important Concept On...
I agree with to begin to collect reasons why EVM it is not used accordingly and based on that to
build up the examples. My first opinion is that EV is an important concept on measuring the
progress of the project, but not well explored as a significant tool and in such context, I think that by
knowing why the EVM is not used properly can lead toward how to use it. There are cases that PMs
know the concept but it is unusable for different reasons as well as there are many cases in which
the concept is not known. So leaving apart the second case, in which the concept is not known
because for my opinion this is the simple case, in my mere opinion, the reasons why the EVM is not
used correctly or it can not be used can be grouped by:
–The project does not have requirements at all.
–The requirements change frequently which make absolutely difficult to define correctly the budget
and the schedule.
–There are wrong estimations of working packages.
–The process of change management doesn 't work or is ineffective.
–The process of calculation Actual Cost is insufficient (reminding here cost collection).
–The incorrect progress of the project.
I am pretty sure that the reasons I mention above can be enriched to a macro level with many
arguments why the phenomena happen. Here below is a couple of examples of my of my reflections
why EVM wasn't used properly:

Investigating How Do Different Paper Cups Affect An...
Problem: How do different material cups such as, plastic, paper, and styrofoam cups affect an
anemometers speed? Styrofoam Cups Styrofoam is known as plastic #6 or PS (Polystyrene).
Styrofoam was first used in 1941 when Dow's Chemical Physics Lab found a way to make foamed
polystyrene. Styrofoam starts out as little pellets. These pellets are about 1 millimeter big and will
go through a heating and cooling process, expanding the pellet 40 – 50 times its size. Styrofoam is
usually used to make plates, cups, bowls, packing peanuts, and package holders. Styrofoam is bad
for the environment since it's not biodegradable and is an "Eco Enemy. Paper Cups Paper cups are a
disposable cup made out of thin sheets of wood or as people today usually know it as... paper. Paper
cups are usually lined with wax or plastic to keep the liquids on the inside from spilling. Cups of
paper were first used around 1907 and were produced by Dixie Cup. Paper cups are made from
wood chips turned into pulp. The Royal Society of Chemistry estimates 33 grams of wood go into
each cup. Paper cups are biodegradable and can be recycled. Plastic Cups ... Show more content on

Plastic cups are made by a process called injection molding. The PET is mixed as a liquid, put into
cup shaped molds, then cooled and solidified. Plastic cups date back to the 1960s, and would be
used at professional sporting games, picnics, and different areas in the house like the bathroom. The
company, Dixie Cups, made plastic cups. Before plastic cups were invented, people would use
barrels of water. Those people would use their own cups causing lots of cross contamination

Marketing Pl The Garmin Approach
Marketing Plan
Overview
The Garmin Approach series of products has created a name for Garmin in the golf community. The
traditional golf GPS delivers distanced to the front back and center of the green. Lower handicap
golfers are looking to get precise distances directly to the flagstick at any one of the different pin
positions. To break into the golf LRF market we need to do more than just make a "me too" product.
We need to combine our GPS and golf course cartography with a LRF to offer a new and better
experience for LRF users that doesn 't sacrifice the accuracy to the pin.
The Approach Z80 will revolutionize electronic measuring devices by merging both the
functionality and form factor. The Approach Z80 will be a direct competitor with the leading LRFs
in the industry that have singular capability of only providing distance to one item. In order to
impact the competition, we will need to have a clear communication highlighting the additional
features and capabilities of the Approach Z80. This product will be the first of its kind for Garmin in
the golf market. The primary message will need to be that we have the distances to everything on
the course at a glance.
Web Presence
Mini–Site: We will not be creating a mini–site for the Approach X80 rangefinder.
Product Landing Page: We will need to update the existing golf landing page. We will have a third
segment of the page highlighting the capabilities with visuals for the rangefinders, similar to that has
been

Speed Of Sound Lab Report

  • 1. Speed Of Sound Lab Report A major error in the experiment is due to the measurement of the resonant point from the meniscus of the water to the phone generating the sound since it is difficult to get a precise measurement between the two objects. A common issue was aligning the meter stick with the phone so the meter stick would not make a 90 angle with the table. As a result, many of the wavelength measurements are slightly above or below its theoretical length. This would have skewed the data and made the experimental line of best fit different from the theoretical line of best fit since the data may be higher than it should theoretically be at one point, and lower than it should theoretically be at another point. Thus, it would likely result in a line of best fit that deviates than that of the theoretical relationship. When the line is different, the slope would likely be different as well (random error), so the speed of sound that is obtained from graph 2 would differ from the theoretical speed of sound. This would be a random error since these errors are unpredictable and cannot be replicated. To prevent this random error and increase precision, one can perform more trials to eliminate outliers or random errors. When the more precise data is graphed, the data would likely form a straighter line that has a slope of approximately 344 because 344m/s is the speed of sound in air in the same temperature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of hearing being off, the is a series of random errors. The errors due to detection of sound have the same effect on the experimental line of best fit as the inaccurate measurement of resonance point since they are both random errors. A way to increase accuracy would be to use a decibel meter to measure where the resonance (volume) is greatest. Another way to increase accuracy would be to also perform more ... • 2. Health Care, Preventative Medicine, And Wellness Programs The traditional meaning of progress is advancing toward any specific goal. A goal can vary from a promotion at work or purchasing a home to starting a family or learning to speak a foreign language. Considering the variations in goals, how then is progress measured? Can it be universal? Unrestricted? Or is it personal and exclusive? The term 'progress' fluctuates in meaning depending on who the term is being applied to in addition to the sense in which it is being discussed. Medically, technologically, and socially are some manners that progress affects larger and increasingly immense populations; nevertheless, there are countless other forms of progress, both individual and world–wide. On a universal scale, diverse groups of people uniting and approaching a common target is progress. Because progress is never truly achieved, rather, the goal simply changes, evolution and growth are everlasting. A countless multitude of achievements have been actualized across the globe and an infinite many more will be realized in the future. Health care, preventative medicine, and wellness programs have extended to a considerable mass of underprivileged countries; meanwhile, larger and wealthier nations have engineered numerous advancements in the medical field. Assorted technologies have assisted in said improvements. Not only have these developments encouraged the medical field in generating improvements, but have also employed distinct techniques to better connect people across the ... • 3. Personal Reflection Essay As the first five weeks of Writing 39B have passed, I believe that I have made some improvements in my writing as a result of the feedback from the professor, the multiple writing assignments, and reading the Anteater's Guide to Writing and Rhetoric. Although I can still improve in all facets of my writing, the progress I have made so far was very much needed. One of the stages of my development took place in class. Although I was a bit reluctant and shy to participate at times in class, I learned a lot. The way the professor analyzed the 9/11 conspiracy video and some of the chapters in the "The United States of Paranoia" taught me how to see the author's purpose in creating the text and how the author appealed to the audience by presenting the text in different mediums. The mini group work done almost daily in class also helped me think more analytically about each text, which helped me writing my final RA. One of the class works was analyzing the opening paragraph of "The Metamorphis" by Franz Kafka. This task allowed me to see how the author's word choice can change the complete tone of the text and how the audience reacts differently to each type of tone. At the times in which I did participate, I felt that I contributed valuable information as the professor would usually expand on my comment in a positive way. In addition, participating also allowed me to feel confident about my ideas and thought process which enabled me to feel confident writing my assignments. From the very first RIP assignment, the feedback I've received helped in aiding my final RA. Prior to this class, I didn't truly know how to be specific. Whether this be with a claim or audience, I was describing things broadly. In my RIP #1, where I had to identify a specific group with a shared interest. The group that I created was students in high school or college who are obsessed with social media. With the feedback, I learned that I could've made it more specific by choosing just high school students not including college student and only Snapchat, and no other social media platforms. Moving on, a drastic change in my writing can be seen in the differences between CR #1 and CR #2. In CR #1, I explain that the author "carries a casual yet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Fiji Influence On Society At first working with a group of four proved to be a bit difficult. It was tricky to find something that we all had in common we had four totally different people. Two of them coming from the other side of the globe. Devantchi had just arrived two weeks earlier when I met her. Tony left his home in China at the age of 15 to attended school. Ky has been the glue in our group. She has been at Greenriver now for almost two years. It was nice to have someone who knew what to do and expect. This group project ended up being a great way to meet other members of the class and when we met up to work on our project we got to know each other. Since this is my first quarter the other members of my group were completely invaluable. They showed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ive reflected on this for a few days now. I realized that if I am drawn to the past and want to know those stories. Then I need to be aware of the present. I can't just study history without truly understanding the workings of today's judicial system and society. The past leads into the future and some day today will be history. Taking this class has made me want to become more educated in the workings of our political system. I want to carefully read and understand what is going on in this country. I'm now truly concerned with where we are as a nation. I want to know where our money goes, what kind of laws are trying to be passed and what kind of laws already exists that I am unaware of. I feel like I have been woken up to a state of awareness of my surroundings. I think the best way that I can facilitate change right now is to educate myself and children so that when I send them out into the world or at the very least to your classroom they will go in having a wider range of sight then I had. The knowledge that I've gained in coming to this class and doing the group project has been wonderful. I am seriously soaking in all of this information and love learning about history. I came into this experience wondering if I could do it. I didn't even tell anyone in my extended family I was going to school. Now that I'm nearing the end of the first semester I can see the growth. • 5. Essay on moral compass In my past 18 years, I have been living in an environment that people telling me what should I do and what should I not to do. My mum taught me to be a good role model for my younger sister, my dad told me to study hard so I can have a good future. By going to school, teachers teach me that what is 'right' and 'wrong' from the textbook and I have also been learning that from the TV, newspaper and radio. The mass media is always a channel for me to receive what is 'right' and 'wrong' about the social. My moral compass tells me what to do as a good sister and this always stop me from what I really want to do in my heart. It upsets me because 'role model' has become a burden for me to do something I really like. For example, I would like to learn street dance but my mother rejected it with not to affect adversely on my sister. She thought that I should put more effort on studying but not something which is not related to academic. In school, I am the pianist of the school choir and I am responsible for the playing the piano part in different occasion. When I was in form 1, I was told to be the pianist for the Speech Day and it really affected my life in secondary school a lot. Since all the pianists playing in Speech Day were in Form 5 before, I became the youngest pianist ever in my school. People questioned why I can stand on the stage because they think I am not qualified for that. I would like to do my best every time on stage so that people would agree with me and understand the effort that I have paid. As a result, I have tremendous pressure as my moral compass tells me to perform well before going out to perform as there are a lot of people looking at me and I would want to show them I am excellent player. Before this study, metamemory in adults was studied extensively but due to children's lack of ability to assess their own memory this area little research or appropriate measuring tools exist for children. The way the children's responses were recorded was adapted so that knowledge of internal strategy, knowledge of external strategy and knowledge of general memory function could be measured. The answers were recorded so that they could be scored by independent evaluator. In the second study, 128 children were picked from the first phase. The children were given a clustering recall test, basically twelve words that they were asked to recall. They were also asked to remember them by category. This created two clustering ratios, a semantic one and a serial clustering ratio. This was a free recall test. The results for the combined study after the data was analyzed indicate that the hypothesis is correct for the three–factor model and developmental stability was present. Factors in children's metamemory were revealed for the first time showing that there are multiple constructs rather than a unitary construct. The children were using different kinds of knowledge as they performed the tasks given them in the study. The three–factor scale is a helpful tool that can be used to evaluate metamemory throughout childhood with reliability. In this experimental study, the authors made progress on the study and scientific understanding of children's development of metamemory. • 8. The Pilgrim 's Progress By John Bunyan The Pilgrim's Progress written by John Bunyan was a very deep and touching story to me. After reading it and trying to interpret what it was saying I decided that I could actually relate more to this story than I realized through my faith as a follower of Jesus Christ. John Bunyan uses a dream of the main character, Christian, to describe a life changing event for Christian to grow spiritually while traveling and meeting new people and having first time experiences. The Pilgrims Progress is an allegory to the Bible and Christianity that portrays what we as Christians believe in. Bunyan uses the pilgrimage of Christian to express this allegory using the experiences and people Christian comes into contact with to explore the struggles and challenges of life on earth Christians faces daily when seeking eternal life. The first challenge Christian faces is his guilt. As a Christian, I was always taught right from wrong according to the Bible and when I am in the wrong for something, I feel guilty because I know it is wrong and that it is not necessarily how God wants me to live my life or what he wants from me. The guilt arises because I am promised eternal greatness after my life here on earth as long as I believe in Jesus Christ and I continue to strive to be a Christian, and well lets face it, who would not feel guilty being promised such an amazing thing in exchange for being a good person and following the biblical scripture of Christ. It is filled with millions of different technologically intricate devices. We have cell phones that allow us to talk to anyone anywhere. We can listen to music on the go with CD and MP3 players. We can learn, interact, communicate and work using personal computers. Cars, public transit and airplanes can efficiently transport us to our far off destinations. It seems every aspect of our daily lives is affected by some sort of technological/scientific device. And in effect, Teich tells us that "as industrialization proceeded, these men became true believers in technological improvement as the primary basis for universal progress" (7). This new idea of progress said that if one can guarantee the advancement of new scientific technologies, then the remaining parts of life will be taken care of in turn. This placed values like freedom, justice, beauty, self–fulfillment and harmony to "secondary status" (8). In response to this change in values, "romantic" writers commented that the new machine power is superficial, object–oriented and egotistical. The new inventions were "improved means to unimproved ends" (10). The new powerful machines were considered a form of "idolatry like that attacked by the Old Testament prophets in a disguised, new–fashioned form" (10). The two sides have now been brought back to the table in recent years, and Albert Teich believes that "we urgently need a set of political, social, and cultural goals comparable to those formulated at the beginning... if we are to accurately assess the worth of new technologies" (11). The Use Of Metal Detectors In School Shootings School shootings have been on the rise in the United States since the early 80's, questioning the safety and security of schools all across the country. Lots of ideas have come up for trying to keep weapons out of schools but the idea of having metal detectors has stuck and on paper seems to be a viable option for schools but in real use they have lots of issues. One of the biggest problems with using metal detectors in public schools will be cost. Cost affects many different things to do with the metal detectors, two of the major factors being proper trained staff and paying for repairs. Another issue with metal detectors are they are slow, make kids late to class and also make kids dread going to school in the morning. There could be compromises made like alternative options like random checks or quick pat downs but getting rid of this style of security would be better all together. Metal detectors should not be used in schools because they make students late to class, cause anxiety and are too expensive to be used in public schools. Metal detectors are making kids tired and late to class because the process is so lengthy. Ms. Dunley, a teacher who works at a school where metal detectors are being used says "She marks several people late everyday because they are being held up by the metal detector". The Pilgrim's Progress Essay The Pilgrim's Progress The author of The Pilgrim's Progress is well described by Coleridge's remark: "His piety was baffled by his genius; and Bunyan the dreamer overcame the Bunyan of the conventicle." This remark points out the difficulty that Bunyan faces when he attempts to write a religious piece of work in the style of allegory. The Pilgrim's Progress is "pious" because it is a piece written in dedication to God. It contains important religious teachings –– what a good Christian should do and what he should not do. What Coleridge means by Bunyan's "genius" is basically the story itself. The story is so well written that people become so interested in the story and forget the whole spiritual truth behind and this worry Bunyan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People at his time indulged in plays and drama for purely earthly pleasure. This is opposed by the Puritans since it is regarded as a kind of corruption and that one could be extracted from the direction to God. But Bunyan justified that if these things are done for God, they could be accepted. The phrase "I have used similitudes" that appeared at the original cover–page of the book explains the use of similes, metaphors and other figures of language. God Himself also speaks in figurative language, not in plain language. Bunyan is going to use similitude to tell the Christians what they should do. It is therefore not for pure enjoyment to read this book. The aim of this book is to teach a religious lesson and ask people to learn from it. Bunyan went on to justify what he did by saying that God had allowed him to do so. He clarified that he was not writing to please anyone and that it should never be used as a way to show off one's ability. He also reminded people that they had to interpret the Bible for themselves for God is not always clear in what he says. The story opens as a dream and this is significant because it is the way that God speaks to his prophets. Bunyan somehow felt himself like a modern version of prophet and he is determined to write about his vision. • 15. Precision And Accuracy Lab Report Determining the Density of a Polystyrene Sphere with Precision and Accuracy Abstract: The objective of the lab is to determine the volumes of the polystyrene spheres with three different measuring tools: Water Displacement, Analytical Scale, and Triple Beam Balance Scale. The experiment is meant to help understand the concept and application of precision and accuracy in experimental measurements. Accuracy is a measure of how closely the results of repeated measurements are to the true value of what is being measured. Precision is the variability in the results from the repeated measurements, and how close the repeated measurements were to one another. In this lab, the method for measuring the volume of the polystyrene spheres is done with the previously stated tools: Water Displacement, Analytical Scale, and Triple Beam Balance Scale. The standard deviation for the entire classes volumes and masses are recorded to determine the densities. Introduction: Accuracy and precision were the major aspects of the lab. Accuracy is how close the average of the measured values are to the actual value. Precision is the closeness of repeated measurements. In the lab, the aim was to get as close as possible with both accuracy and precision when determining the mass and volume of the spheres. The mass was determined by weighing the spheres on the Analytical Scale and Triple Beam Balance Scale. The volume is determined by measuring with a ruler and by water displacement. The standard ... Based on the mass and volumes of these objects, the density of these objects can be calculated. The equation for the density of an object is density =mass/volume. In the density equation there is a direct proportional relationship between the mass of an object and its volume. For instance, if an object has its mass decreased, its volume will also decrease. The experiment used a Vernier caliper to measure the height and the diameter of a cylinder. A Vernier caliper was also used to measure the diameter of the sphere. A meter stick was used to measure the length, width, and height of the wooden block. The precision of an instrument such as a Vernier caliper or a meter stick determines how many significant figures the data is presented in. The mass of the objects being tested will be measured using an electronic balance. The equations used in this experiment to determine the volumes were the volume of the cylinder: πr2h; volume of the block: (length)*(width)*(height); and the volume of the sphere: (4π/3) (r3). The volumes of these objects will be divided by their respective masses to determine the density of each object. Provide an example of when and why you would use each one? The main difference between the wax paper and the parchment paper is their coating which dictates their use.Wax paper is coated with waxy materials such as soybean or paraffin while parchment paper is coated with either silicone or quilon. The coating of the parchment paper makes it non–stick and heat resistant which allow it to be ideal for any cooking methods that involves heat such as baking. It could be used to line pans or baking trays. It could also be reused which makes it more economical and practical to purchase. Meanwhile, the wax paper is best used for any activities that would only require room and/or cooler temperature. Its waxy covering allows it to be non–stick and prevent the loss of moisture of foods. DQ 2 What is the reliability of a measurement? What is the validity of a measurement? Can a measurement be valid if it is not reliable? Explain. Relaible measurment is the consistency of a set of measurements or of a measuring instrument, often used to describe a test. Reliability is inversely related to random error. The validity of a measurment is how accurate it is. Reliability does not imply validity. That is, a reliable measure is measuring something consistently, but you may not be measuring what you want to be measuring. For example, while there are many reliable tests of specific abilities, not all of them would be valid for predicting, say, job performance. A common example often used to illustrate the difference between reliability and validity in the experimental sciences involves a common bathroom scale. If someone who is 200 pounds steps on a scale 10 times and gets readings of 15, 250, 95, 140, etc., the scale is not reliable. If the scale consistently reads "150", then it is reliable, but not valid. If it reads "200" each time, then the measurement is both reliable and valid. This is what is meant by the statement, "Reliability is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Sl 2 Thermometer Discussion The results of this lab helped determine which tools are best to measure different objects. In Station 1, a yellow metric ruler, an orange metric ruler, a wooden ruler, and a measuring tape was used. The tool with the highest degree certainty was the orange metric ruler. This is because the orange ruler had tick marks for each 10th(0.1). The tool with the lowest degree of certainty was the measuring tape because it kept moving and it was difficult to keep it straight. For Station 2, a wall clock, a digital stopwatch, and a timer was used. The tool that had the most accurate measurement was the digital stopwatch because it measured into the 10th(0.1) place automatically. The tool that was least accurate was the wall clock because ... In Station 4, a spring scale, an electric balance, an analytic balance, and a one pay balance was used. The most accurate tool was electric balance because no calculations or estimations needed to be made. The least accurate tool was the spring scale because the scale kept moving and block couldn't be measured without a basket carrying it, making the measurement inaccurate. In Station 5, a graduated cylinder, a beaker, and an Erlenmeyer flask was used. The tool that had the highest degree of certainty was the graduated cylinder because there were more ticks. This made the measurement more accurate because the water level was closer to the markings. The least accurate tool was the Erlenmeyer flask because the spaces between the markings were large so the whole number had to be guesstimated. Various proposals have been offered by the lobbyists, politicians and citizens to reduce including ban on assault rifles, military style riffles, some even went on to the extent of shedding some worrisome over the second amendment because of the series of gun violence in the country. No doubt that this is a challenging subject and it requires bold actions in order to reduce the violence perpetrated by the wrongful use of gun that is now a days use to take the life of not only adults but young kids in elementary school, home invaders use guns to kill innocents, arm rubbers rub banks to get what they want, citizens on citizens crimes is becoming rampant. This worried me so much, and I had to shed some suggestions that I think might be useful or even considered in reducing gun violence. "From July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014, there were a total of 48 student, staff, and other nonstudent school–associated violent deaths in the United States, which included 26 homicides, 20 suicides, 1 legal intervention death, and 1 undetermined violent death." NCES Data. In regards to this burning issue of gun violence, I have few suggestions that I personally think will be helpful in combating and reducing the gun violence in our various societies. Since us all as a citizen can be a victim of gun violence, then I have this believe that certain solutions will help reduce the violence. For example, I would advocate for major public ... • 33. John Stuart Mill Harm Principle "The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others" [14]. In John Stuart Mill's On Liberty, his "harm principle" addresses interference in other people's actions. He contends that the exercise of power over others is only justified when preventing harm. It is important to keep in mind that some harm is acceptable, but an action that infringes on another's interests should be prevented and punished. In accordance with Mill's description of his harm principle, the statement that "protecting liberty through this principle prioritizes the development of individuality over social progress" is somewhat valid. It is only somewhat valid because Mill prioritizes the self– development of the individual in order to help society progress rather than instead of the progression of society. He believes that freedom is designed to protect individualism and that in a state of nature there would be no social contract because of the concept of social good. This concept conveys that because people receive protection from society then they owe a specific behavior in return. Mill justifies the conservation of originality with the object of personal wellbeing and societal good. His justification reveals the way that, in preventing harm, he prioritizes the preservation of the individual to better the progression of society. • 34. Testing In Hospital Resuscitation The primary research question of the study was "does testing as a final activity, in an in–hospital resuscitation skills course, increase learning outcome compared with an equal amount of time spent practicing?" (Kromann et al., 22). The primary independent variable for this study was the type of final activity. This includes both the testing as the final activity and the equal time practicing as the final activity. The IV was operationalized through two groups, a control group and an intervention group. The control group and the intervention group were identical until the last thirty minutes. During the last thirty minutes the intervention group each participant was tested individually, while during the last thirty minutes of the control group the participants ran through a few scenarios. The primary dependent variable was the assessment scores of a 25–item checklist. The DV was operationalized through a 25–item checklist that was inspired by the Advanced Life Support Cardiac Arrest Scenario Test. This turned out to be the case and why the study established temporal precedence. The effect the two different groups had was due to them either being tested for the last thirty minutes or not being tested. So, this means that the causal variable came before the outcome which was different scores based on testing or not testing. I don't think there is a third–variable problem. This is because the experiment left little room for the participants to apply anything that could be considered a third–variable like having more knowledge. But, all the participants had the same amount of learning in the medical fields and they all had the same amount of time to prepare for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Screws are counted and delivered in marked bags, scrap wood is recorded, etc. The plan is rigid and is not focused on achieving a minimum but on not exceeding a maximum deadline. The amount of work in progress is high and the planning does not factor that in. In this particular case, a mistake at the beginning, when there is little work in progress, may not have much of an impact or no impact at all because of the generous buffers. A mistake later, when the amount of work in progress is high, may delay the work more than the buffers can compensate for. a) Ralph suggests building only one section at a time – cellular manufacturing. In this case the operation becomes so small that the planning and control system designed by Joe becomes redundant. b) The amount of work in progress is minimized. Fewer tools are needed. • 37. Staples Inc: Measuring Development and Progress Staples, Inc: Measuring Development and Progress Staples, Inc. does business in many different countries, but its home base of operations is in the United States (Staples, 2012). In order for the company to do well in the US or abroad, however, the country in which it is located must be growing and developing on its own terms and under its own power. Otherwise, there will not be a customer base for the store to utilize and it would not make any sense for a company like Staples to move into a country or community where there was no money to be made. That is simply bad business. The most important indicator for measuring the developmental progress of a nation, though, is whether the economy of the country (and the community) is growing and expanding. When a community (or a large number of communities) is not doing well, that often speaks to the entire country and its strengths. Staples can actually help communities it moves into, though, instead of shunning areas where there is little economic development. By doing something of that nature, companies like Staples show corporate ethics and social responsibility. Being socially responsible is a very important way for companies to generate interest in communities, and can contribute to a company performing well (Allenby & Krizov, 2004; De Pelsmacker, Driesen, & Rayp, 2005). Future Of Sensors : A Study Conducted By Intechno Consulting Future of sensors Trends A study conducted by Intechno Consulting [ ] shows that the non–military, open market for sensors grew from EUR 81.6 billion in 2006 to EUR 119.4 billion in 2011 and can be expected to grow to EUR 184.1 billion until 2016. This equates to an annual average growth of 8.5%. Of the EUR 184.4 billion EUR global market for sensors in 2016, 9.7% will go to the machinery industries, 8.9% to the process industries, and 22.8% to the vehicle industries including airplanes, ships and rail vehicles. The figures below show the declining market shares of Western Europe, in spite of Germany's strong overall position in the sensors market. The main reason for this is the fact that Western European sensor buyers are found mostly in the established industries, while the USA and Japan lead in information and communication technology–the main growth sector for the future sensors markets. Figure 5: Forecast of the Non–Military Open World Market for Sensors until 2016: Subdivision by Regions [26] This is also confirmed in a survey conducted by PwC [ ], where respondents from Asia were more likely to say their companies are investing in sensors, followed closely by Latin America. On the other hand, North American respondents were least likely to say their companies are investing in sensors and they have no plans to close the global gap. • 39. My Barroom Observation In lieu of having the opportunity to measure a tall object, I decided that it would be interesting to know the height of my barn because it was never identified. There are few steps to finding how tall an item is, however, it is quite difficult to be completely accurate with the objects that I utilized. First, I needed to build a clinometer with a straw, protractor, and string, which was used to find the angle of elevation. "The angle of elevation is the angle formed by a horizontal line and a line of sight to a point above the line"(Rehill), and in this specific scenario, the point is the top of the barn. Furthermore, I then measured the distance from the barn to where I was standing and looked, through the straw, to the top of it. I had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, the answers that I got are reasonable because they do not seem too small and they are quite average for an one and a half story building. Nevertheless, the height of the barn might be inaccurate because errors could have a drastic impact on the final answer. To illustrate, the measurements are the basis for the whole entire problem by reason that trigonometric ratios place primary importance on them, so, therefore, if they are incorrect, then all of the resulting numbers will be wrong. I struggled with obtaining the appropriate angle measurements because I had problems with pinching the string at the correct place and viewing the necessary spot through the straw. Also, if the calculations were amiss, then it would produce false numbers, which causes the final answer to be off due to the legitimate figures not being incorporated. I had a problem with this also as I did not set up the correct equations at first, which would give me faulty calculations and, consequently, mess up my final answer. However, I quickly figured out that my equations were incorrect, so, therefore, I did not experience any problems attributed to that exact reason. Another problem that I faced was with building the clinometer itself due to the protractor being attached to a geometric template and not aligning the straw correctly, but I just used my protractor as there was no effect and I figured out how the straw needed to be ... My first opinion is that EV is an important concept on measuring the progress of the project, but not well explored as a significant tool and in such context, I think that by knowing why the EVM is not used properly can lead toward how to use it. There are cases that PMs know the concept but it is unusable for different reasons as well as there are many cases in which the concept is not known. So leaving apart the second case, in which the concept is not known because for my opinion this is the simple case, in my mere opinion, the reasons why the EVM is not used correctly or it can not be used can be grouped by: –The project does not have requirements at all. –The requirements change frequently which make absolutely difficult to define correctly the budget and the schedule. –There are wrong estimations of working packages. –The process of change management doesn 't work or is ineffective. –The process of calculation Actual Cost is insufficient (reminding here cost collection). –The incorrect progress of the project. I am pretty sure that the reasons I mention above can be enriched to a macro level with many arguments why the phenomena happen. Here below is a couple of examples of my of my reflections why EVM wasn't used properly: – The scope of "Ice on Ice" project was the upgrade of the infrastructure of the Call Centre.
