1-That is so sad, I think sometimes they don't know about other treatments, and other times they have such strong beliefs in the tradition they feel it will work. Did the child end up recovering? The homeschool group we are a part of had a discussion about healing practices in other cultures. One family helps support a missionary family and that families daughter got sick while there were in another country. The village leaders offered to I think it was have an old lady spit on the girl. The kids got to learn about how important it is to be respectful of the cultures, but to also educate them on more appropriate treatments that are available. 2-Abused children of the school-age range face many issues in school and with peer relationships. These kids may also complain of headaches or fatigue that is not explainable. Teachers may notice and question home life when school-age kids start acting differently. 3-I'm going to surprise even myself by saying that, in this context and for the cultural reasons mentioned, that I do not feel that this is child abuse. I think that we have to look at the intent behind the action. If the action was meant to be punitive then I think that's a different story. If the action holds some significance in their culture or is a sort of right of passage, that frames it in a different way. I think that there are many things in our culture, ways we treat our children, things we do to our children, that might be considered child abuse/neglect by those in other cultures. ...

If you are aiming to raise a self-reliant, pleasant, well-behaved child, the authoritative parent will generally have the most success. * What is Authoritative Parenting? * Authoritative parents exercise control over their children, without being controlling.
They set rules and guidelines that they expect children to follow. But they also recognize that sometimes flexibility is called for. Authoritative parents often express love and affection to their children, without fear that such expressions of emotion may affect their ability to discipline. As their children get older, authoritative parents encourage more responsibility and freedom, within well-outlined rules. I think that knowledge of the diversity topic I chose which was behavioral problems within special education is something that is extremely topical right now. Children are being kicked out of school when teachers are unprepared to deal with their behaviors, and they are sent down a negative trajectory. In my area, this is something that happens so often I’ve literally made a practice out of it. Oftentimes, these children are in need of loving boundaries and socio-emotional scaffolding, and very often they have parents that are practicing negative parenting which leads to a lot of different pathologies across the lifespan.
If I was able to come up with a program to train teachers how to deal with kids that are acting up in class, I think it would have a positive effect on the entire class and the school climate in general. Teachers would feel better and they would be able to be the masters of their domain as opposed to exhausted. Teacher burnout is related to kids that have behaviors! Then we have the kids – who endure a lot of suffering when they are targeted by teachers, as kids that are presenting behaviors are also displaying the underlying dynamics – the behaviors are just the symptom of the problem. We need to be able to attend to them on both the behavioral and emotional levels in order to really attend to behaviors and help them stay on a positive life trajectory starting from an early age.
The family part of the intervention is also critical, because we know that negative parenting can account for a part of the behavioral issue. Either parents aren’t equipped to handle children that are able to push boundaries or they engage in negative parenting themselves, and either way an intervention needs to happen on that front as well in order to keep consistency across environments. The intervention is two-art and would contribute positively to social change because it would be helping families and especially children that may otherwise end up in worse institutions in their lives.

· The diversity topic of choice for me is gender identity. Children and adolescents that are faced with gender dysphoria encounter so much. Not only are they shut out by the community but some are even shut out by their parents and family members. The mesosystem includes the interrelations between the major settings in which the youths find themselves, and subsequently the impact of these interrelations upon the youth. Major settings in the mesosystem include local economy and work environments, government, religion, neighborhood, and mass media (Mustanski. 2014). When a child or adolescent is experiencing gender dysphoria, the number one thing the need is to be supported. There does not need to be any biased or judgment. A moral dilemma is when someone has a conflict when they have to choose between two or more actions. The person has a moral reason for choosing each action they do. The persons’ reasoning is what is important, not their final choice.
A dilemma that I came up with is about a little girl who wants to be able to buy a snack at school instead of eating the snack that her parents send her. When thinking about the educational setting in which I work my role is a teacher. I experience a lot of diversity with my role as the teacher. There are two different roles that I take on. This is one way in which I experience diversity in my job. I am by law responsible for my students education and I teach them the lessons that are necessary for them to learn. For most of my students, I am also a second mom or a fill in mom. I keep food in my classroom for my kids who are hungry and do not have much at home. I also have extra personal products there if they need it and I give them the listening eat and advice about how to achieve their dreams or if they are having a problem. The second way in which I experience diversity is that I have students of various genders and nationalities and ethnics that I have to interact with on a daily basis.
One challenge I have found when working with diverse backgrounds is the preconceived notions of Americans that is learned overseas before immigrants or refugees come to America. The cause of this challenge I believe comes from history of what Americans have done both in their own country and overseas. We talk about change in America but that same talk and cooperation isn’t seen in the news only negativity so it leads their preconceived notions to be true until they come to America and see otherwise for themselves.
The second challenge I have seen when working with a diverse group is the gender roles. Often times kids from another country that doesn’t see women as equals usually have a hard time making friends with females and they gravitate towards more male figures and role models and are more than likely to listen to men in authority before they listen to the women in authority. The cause of this challenge is because in some countries women shouldn’t hold high powers of authority and these values have been instilled into the kids at an early age until the child has assimilated into American customs and traditions and way of life.
I often do a myth buster assignment that lets students see the similarities in the things sad about their culture by other countries that aren’t ours and see that they are just silly notions. Kids usually love it. I can’t say that I would address them differently because they are all necessary to help students learn and understand each other and the concept that America was built upon. I like my approach and they work but I am an open minded person so I wouldn’t mind mixing them with other ideas and approaches that have been proven to be effective.

I think that knowledge of the diversity topic I chose which was behavioral problems within special education is something that is extremely topical right now. Children are being kicked out of school when teachers are unprepared to deal with their behaviors, and they are sent down a negative trajectory. In my area, this is something that happens so often I’ve literally made a practice out of it. Oftentimes, these children are in need of loving boundaries and socio-emotional scaffolding, and very often they have parents that are practicing negative parenting which leads to a lot of different pathologies across the lifespan.
If I was able to come up with a program to train teachers how to deal with kids that are acting up in class, I think it would have a positive effect on the entire class and the school climate in general. Teachers would feel better and they would be able to be the masters of their domain as opposed to exhausted. Teacher burnout is related to kids that have behaviors! Then we have the kids – who endure a lot of suffering when they are targeted by teachers, as kids that are presenting behaviors are also displaying the underlying dynamics – the behaviors are just the symptom of the problem. We need to be able to attend to them on both the behavioral and emotional levels in order to really attend to behaviors and help them stay on a positive life trajectory starting from an early age.
The family part of the intervention is also critical, because we know that negative parenting can account for a part of the behavioral issue. Either parents aren’t equipped to handle children that are able to push boundaries or they engage in negative parenting themselves, and either way an intervention needs to happen on that front as well in order to keep consistency across environments. The intervention is two-art and would contribute positively to social change because it would be helping families and especially children that may otherwise end up in worse institutions in their lives.

Not only are they shut out by the community but some are even shut out by their parents and family members. Major settings in the mesosystem include local economy and work environments, government, religion, neighborhood, and mass media (Mustanski. 2014). - 1. 1-That is so sad, I think sometimes they don't know about other treatments, and other times they have such strong beliefs in the tradition they feel it will work. Did the child end up recovering? The homeschool group we are a part of had a discussion about healing practices in other cultures. One family helps support a missionary family and that families daughter got sick while there were in another country. The village leaders offered to I think it was have an old lady spit on the girl. The kids got to learn about how important it is to be respectful of the cultures, but to also educate them on more appropriate treatments that are available. 2-Abused children of the school-age range face many issues in school and with peer relationships. These kids may also complain of headaches or fatigue that is not explainable. Teachers may notice and question home life when school-age kids start acting differently. 3-I'm going to surprise even myself by saying that, in this context and for the cultural reasons mentioned, that I do not feel that this is child abuse. I think that we have to look at the intent behind the action. If the action was meant to be punitive then I think that's a different story. If the action holds some significance in their culture or is a sort of right of passage, that frames it in a different way. I think that there are many things in our culture, ways we treat our children, things we do to our
- 2. children, that might be considered child abuse/neglect by those in other cultures.
