1. HISTORY OF TELEVISION
BBC started daily transmission on November 14, 1922. By then more than one Million licenses had been issued for
50 shillings
1923 - John Logic Bai began developing a system by which television would be made possible.
1926 - John Baird made television possible with the help of selfridg. This was a 3 inch television manufactured by
GE in Germany, Denes von Mihaly demonstrated a mechanical 30 line system called Tehelor win a picture
rate of 10 frames / second.
1929 - Herbert E. Ives demonstrated a colour Television system of 50 lines from AT & T in New York to
Washington DC.
- November 18, 1929 - Zworykin demonstrated 120 line system of electronic television at 24 frames / second
( Kinescope tube ).
1930 July 30, NBC started its first Television Station in New York called W2XBS
1931 - Manfred Von Ardence showed his television at the Berlin Radio show which debuted at the Berlin
Olympics in 1936.
1934 - BBC appointed a committee under Lord Selsdon to work on the viability of setting up a public television
service
- The committee proposed the two new high definition systems ( Bai 240 line and Marconi ‘EMI’ 405 lines)
2. - Gerald Cox was appointed the Director of Television.
- Television development moved further in Europe than it did in U. S.
- In 1938 NBC cameras transmitted live events from its experimental New York Station.
- In 1939 President Franklin Roosvelt was shown welcoming visitors to the world fair.
- When the world was broke out television development was curtailed.
- After three years of the culmination of the World War II. U.S set the trend of being the second best which many
people reckon as the golden age.
- NBC broke new ground with view programmes Hour Glass – a variety show. This was the first programme to
have a commercial sponsors ( chase and sanborn coffee).
- 1947 base ball world series became the biggest televised event.
- By 1948 U.S television consisted of four net works ABC, CBS, NBS and Du Mont) with 30 stations.
- In 1948 Early tests of Cable Television in rural area of Lansford, South Africa
1956 – Kinescope was replaced by video tape improved the visual quality.
1957 - Remote Control was introduced
