• Clear instructions
• Minimise movement
• Ensure a ‘free path’ so the journey is smooth
• Avoid clashing with another group in common areas
• Ensure the children are properly received at their destination
• Avoid rushing the children, and provide comfort and support
PLANNING DESTINATIONS
How can you plan
destinations with children
and help them to reach
somewhere meaningful?
PLANNING DESTINATIONS
1. Ask children to choose ‘where to’ next
2. Limit choice if they are overwhelmed or
cannot make a decision
3. Support children in engaging with a rich
range of experiences
4. Monitor that ‘all children have a go at
everything’
5. Help to settle a child at a new space,
activity or area (rather than ‘sending’
them)

SIT MORE… Spend more time sitting on
carpets and at tables with
children and less time standing
up.
Engage. Play. Support. Zone
Try to have 6-8 children with you,
under your supervision

MOVING ROUND THE BUILDING • Clear instructions • Minimise movement • Ensure a ‘free path’ so the journey is smooth • Avoid clashing with another group in common areas • Ensure the children are properly received at their destination • Avoid rushing the children, and provide comfort and support
  • 6. PLANNING DESTINATIONS How can you plan destinations with children and help them to reach somewhere meaningful?

  • 8. PLANNING DESTINATIONS 1. Ask children to choose ‘where to’ next 2. Limit choice if they are overwhelmed or cannot make a decision 3. Support children in engaging with a rich range of experiences 4. Monitor that ‘all children have a go at everything’ 5. Help to settle a child at a new space, activity or area (rather than ‘sending’ them)
