1. Evaluation Question 3
In what ways does your product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. Conventions I used in my music
magazine
• In my music magazine I has used:
– Byline
– Masthead
– Image
– Coverlines
– Price
– Barcode
– Issue date/number
– House colours
– Dropcap
3. Existing magazine that influenced my
own
• Vibe magazine was the magazine that had influenced my magazine
because it is the most successful and well known hip-hop magazine. Also, I
had used this as my main influence as I knew that vibe had a big fan base
which would mean that my magazine would have a higher opportunity to
become popular.
• I had to make my own magazine different from Vibe as I had set my
magazine out in the same structure. I had changed my magazine by using
local bands and having local gigs.
4. Conventions I followed
• In my music magazine I had followed some conventions from my
existing magazine research. I had used a mid shot as my main image
on the front cover. I had used this because it would show the
audience the expression on the images face which would intrigue
the reader to carry on reading the magazine.
• I had also followed the cover lines and how they were set up on the
magazine ‘Vibe’ as it had a chronological structure down the left
hand side of the page.
• I had also used a big masthead that goes across the majority of the
top of the page.
• My contents page uses a similar structure the one on the front
cover as it uses a chronological structure on the left hand side. The
image will be on the right hand side of the page which is a similar
convention to the one of vibe.
5. Conventions I subverted
• I had converted some conventions as I had placed
the barcode in the top right hand side of the page
and I had placed the price below the barcode. I
had done this as it looked better and had fitted in
better with my front cover.
• Also, I had used different colours to the ones of
the music magazine vibe as I wanted to be
different whilst still being able to be recognised
as a part of the hip-hop genre so I had decided to
use colours like red and black and blue.
