1. Final Storyboard
These imagesshowthe final storyboardof mymusicvideo, showing possiblecameraanglesand the
editingtechniquesI plantouse inmy musicvideo.Thiswill aidme whenIgoout filming,asIcan
visuallysee howIwantthe shotto lookand alsoI can organise the shots easily whenediting. Alsoit
will meanI can simply sortout the shotsif the time managementforthe songisn’tright,so thatI
can include cutaways. The storyboardwill remindme of the cameraangle, thougheventsonthe day
of filmingcouldbringminorchanges. The editingthatI wantto include inmymusicvideoisto
include blackandwhite whenthe maincharactergoesthroughthe T.V. screenintothe ‘new’ world.
Black andwhite will alsobe usedinplacesinthe musicvideo alongside colourtosignifychange. I
wantto explore the use of Photoshop, whichwill be seenas a carvingon a tree of a peace symbol in
the ‘newworld’. I wantto explore otherelementsof editingwhenIlookatthe final footage sothat
I can continuallydevelopmyskillsanddevelopastyle unique tomyself.
Thispage showsthe beginningof the musicvideobeforethe songstartson shot6. It beginswhere
the maincharacter walksintothe livingroom, sitsdownandwatchesa television documentaryon
terrorismwitha newspaperintheirlap headliningasadstory. I have useda range of cameraangles
inthe livingroomscene, withaclose upshotof the remote control whentheyturnthe T.V. on. A
longshotright at the beginning willestablishthe settingforthe peoplewatchingthe video. OnShot
5 and 6, there will be some diegeticsoundof knockingonthe glass T.V.screen whichIwill record
separatelytothe video. Duringshot6, the musicwill starthalfwaythroughthe shot where the
personinthe T.V.is callingthe maincharacterinto the screen. The personcallingthe main
character intothe T.V.is a humanrepresentativeof man’sinnerconscience toguide the main
character to see how our good/badchoicesmake usthe people we are. Throughoutthe musicvideo
there will be performance shotsof the artist, suchasin shot7 where Iam doinga mid-shotof the
2. artistat the piano, sothat fromthe beginningthe artistis visible. Anaudience likestofeel a
connectiontothe artist sothat is whyI have done thisandalso the mainpurpose of a musicvideo is
for the artistto promote themselves. The artistisalsothe maincharacter of the narrative. The last
shotis a panningshotwhere the maincharacter entersthe T.V.screenandcomesout into a wooded
area. The camera isgoingto be placedat the side of the T.V. and pan across the T.V to a black
screenbefore the maincharacteremerges atthe wood. Once the character hasenteredthe T.V. the
sceneswill be blackandwhite tosignify thatitisa ‘new’ worldandat thispointthe viewercandraw
theirownconclusionasto whatthisworldis.
These scenesshowthe woodsettingwhich the maincharacterstaresat inwonderment, tosignify
howwe so easilyforgetthe beautyof ournatural surroundingsandas a contrast to the sad news
storiesthathad beenonthe T.V. and in the newspaper. The firstscene isalongshotwithframing
fromthe treesandfollowedbyapointof view shotfromthe maincharacter’s perspective looking
up to the sky. I wantedthisto linktothe lyric of ‘Imagine there’snoheaven’aspeople believe that
heavenis above us. The nextscene isa close up of a tree, where there will be acarving that will
magically appearwhenthe maincharacterapproaches. Thiscan be achievedonPhotoshopand
thenplacedontoMovie StudioPlatinum. The carving will be the peace symbolwiththe word
‘Peace’underneathit. Thissymbolises thatwithinourimaginationwe candare to dreamthat peace
isa possibility andisalsoadirectlinkback to the T.V.drama the maincharacter had beenwatching
priorto enteringthe ‘new’world. Thisthencuts to anothershotof the artist playingthe piano
whichisa close upshotof the keysthat theyare playing. The nexttwoscenesshow longshotsof
the maincharacter walkingawayfromthe camera to a new place whichisa church. The lastshot on
thispage is a close upshot witha shallow focus, focussingonthe roses, which symbolise love and
loss- andthe gravestones.
3. To keepwiththe church theme,Ihave shownthe maincharacter enteringthe churchand witnessing
a personpraying. The nextscene showsa close upshotof the maincharacter by a cross to show
religiousconnotations. A performance midshotof the artist will show afacial expressionthat
expressesthe line ‘andnoreligiontoo’. Thisjumpstoa trackingshot, that will be handheld, thatwill
be shot frombehindthe maincharacterwho iswalkingdownthe streetandencounters afight
betweentwopeople (Shot21),whichisanover the shouldershot. The fightscene isamid-shotthat
I wantto slowdowninediting toshow how time isslowinginthisscene. Shot23 showsthe
performance of the artistby the piano againwiththe final shoton thispage beinganextreme close
up of the maincharacter’seyesclosingandopeningagain.
4. Whenthe maincharacter openstheireyes, there isamid-shotof the twopeople andtheyare
walkingawaycalmlyasif nothinghashappened. Thisisto show how friendshipisbornoutof not
fighting. The nextshotisa lowshotshowingrubbishonthe floorthatthe maincharacter kicks
whichisa cutawayto introduce the nextmini narrative of the homelessman. Iuseda range of
camera angles, suchas the pointof view shotfromthe maincharacter’s perspectivewhichisahigh
angle shotlookingdownatthe homelessman. The close upof the moneyinthe maincharacter’s
handsymbolises money thatthey are givingtothe homelessmanasan act of compassionanda
sharingof possessions. The lastshotonthispage showsthe maincharacter at a wall withthe scenes
nowbeingincolour,watchingthe worldgoby.
5. On thispage there are two time lapsesthatI wantto filmwhichisthe people walkingabout (Shot
33) whichsymbolisesthe manydiverse peoplelivingin thisworld andthe lake andsky at sunset
(Shot35) toshowthat time ispassing. Shot36 showsthe maincharacter intheirlivingroom
sleeping- whichlinksbacktoan earliershot - showingthatthe ’new’ worldwasjustanimaginingof
howthingscouldbe. The endingshotisa close upof the T.V. as it turns to staticas the camera
zoomsinon the screen whenthe songends.
