What is the disease:
A disease is a particular abnormal condition that
negatively affects the structure or function of
part or all of an organism, and that is not due to
any external injury. Diseases are often known to
be medical conditions that are associated with
specific symptoms and signs
What are the Signs and symptoms :
Signs and symptoms are abnormalities that can
indicate a potential medical condition.
Symptom:
is an effect noticed and experienced only by the
person who has the condition
Sign:
is an effect noticed by others
Diseases could be either acute or chronic
medical conditions which occur suddenly and
last for the brief period in the body, are said to be
the acute disease. But the medical condition
where the disease occurs slowly and last for a
long time or sometimes for the entire life is called
as the chronic disease.
Epidamic. Endemic and pandemic
Endemic: a disease that exists permanently in a
particular region or population. ...
Epidemic: An outbreak of disease that attacks
many peoples at about the same time and may
spread through one or several communities.
Pandemic: When an epidemic spreads
throughout the world.
Causes of the diseases:
-Germs(pathogens) (infectious diseases)
-Immune diseases
-hereditary diseases
-lifestyle diseases
-Malfunction of cells or organs
Infectious disease :
Mainly caused by organisms(pathogens) — such
as bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites.
Infectious diseases could transmit to healthy
persons
Transmission
Infectious diseases can be transmitted in several
ways including:
-Food and water contamination
-Insect bites
-Direct contact
immune diseases:
-Autoimmune disease :occurs when the immune
system attacks the body. Examples include Type I
diabetes
-over immune reaction (allergy) (hypersensitivity)
occurs when the immune system overreacted to
a harmless substances like food allergy
Hereditary diseases(genetic disease)
It is a disease or disorder that is inherited
genetically(through the DNA) . Hereditary
Diseases are passed on from one generation to
another through defective genes and transmitted
in the same family..ex. Sickld cell aneamia
Diabetes type 1
Lifestyle diseaes:
Lifestyle disease: A disease associated with the
way a person or group of people lives. Lifestyle
diseases include atherosclerosis, heart disease,
and stroke; obesity and type 2 diabetes; and
diseases associated with smoking and alcohol
and drug abuse.
Malfunction of cells or organs:
(dysfunction) is a condition where an organ or
cell does not perform its expected function.
Ex. Some Kidney disorder, liver disorder or cancer
Cancer:
uncontrolled cell growth. Abnormal cells begin to
divide and make tumors. They can spread
throughout the body and slowly destroy good
cells and tissues making the person sick. There
are many different diseases that are called
cancers. Some of these diseases are very
treatable while others are more dangerous and
can be fatal.
There are more than 200 different types of cance
Ex. :
-colon cancer
-lung cacer
-leukemia
Treatments
Many forms of cancer can be treated and even
cured. Common treatments include the
following:
-Surgery - Surgery is used to physically remove
the cancer
-Chemotherapy - Chemotherapy uses chemicals
to kill cancerous cells
-Radiation - Radiation uses high-energy waves to
destroy cancer cells.
Many cancers require a combination of the above
treatments.
