Pollution Water Pollution
Did you know that out beautiful ocean is being polluted by 12.7 million tonnes of rubbish each
year? Our oceans are being polluted by us, which is unnecessary as we need the water clean because
97% of our water supply is from there. If we continue to keep mistreating it, we will be left with
only 3% of water to use in everyday situations like showering and watering the garden. It isn't
enough especially with the growth in population. Did you know that 30% of all CO2 commissions is
absorbed by the ocean? So, all this proves that our ocean is essential for living. Thankfully, we have
two amazing heros –Andrew Turton and Pete Ceginsle– have invented a amazing invention called
the Seabin.
What is the Seabin?
We are so incredibly lucky Andrew and Peter have found a solution to fix what we have called–
water pollution. They invented the 'Seabin' which is a cylinder that floated upright. It has a water
pump in it that sucks up all the floating debris and oil on the surface. The Seabin has been very
successful as it collectes approximately 1.5 kilograms of rubbish everyday. $50,000 was raised
towards the Seabin protect because each bin costs around $3,800 to make. And to make it even more
Eco–friendly, each bins has been created from 75–100% recyclable materials. All the rubbish they
catch by using the Seabin, they us that to create more and more Seabins.
Problems with water pollution
They are so many problems for us and our marine life due to careless people littering each day. Did
you know shat on average, each person throws away around 2.7 kilogram of rubbish everyday. Do
you every wonder how much of that ends up in the ocean, killing and hurting our innocent animals?
Think of every piece of plastic you leave in the environment. It will soon end up in the environment
and be there for another 400 years. Did you know, that 37 million gallons of oil are spilled into out
oceans, worldwide each year? The oil then sits on the water, preventing animals to get sunlight. This
causes a vitamin D difisancy, which could potentially cause them to die out. Oil spills have have
killed and harmed approximately 82,000 birds over 102 species. Other animals that are hurt from oil
spills are animals with blow holes and feathers.

Water Pollution
Water pollution in Tennessee is a major environmental issue. Polluted rivers and streams are major
problems because the water inside of them is supposed to be a clean source of water, but sadly that's
not the case. In order to stop this, we have to keep moving forward to find a solution.
First, the Tennessee River is one of the United States most polluted rivers. In 2015, the West
Morgan–East Lawrence Water Authority and three North Alabama residents filed a class action
lawsuit against 3M Company, Dyneon, and Daikin America for polluting the Tennessee River with
perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). These are man–made
chemicals that are used for making items fire resistant and oil, stain, grease, and water repellant. The
lawsuit states that the chemicals can cause health issues such as cancer, immune system issues,
thyroid disease, ulcerative colitis, and high cholesterol.
The 3M Company knew that the levels for safe drinking water were inadequate and that the PFOS
and PFOA levels in the water were dangerously high. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease
Registry analyzed the blood serum of 121 people in nearby locations and found that elevated levels
of PFOA were found in the blood. The Tennessee River supplies at least four million people with
drinking water. Electric power production from hydropower and coal–fired power plants has
dramatically changed the river. A series of dams has significantly altered the river's shape and has

Water Pollution In The Movie : Poisoned Water
Poisoned Waters, the movie, touches upon many important things that are brought up when there is
water pollution. In the movie, at the beginning, it shows how often many people are affected by the
pollution. Many people lose their jobs due to the pollution not allowing them to fish for the amount
of fish, oysters, or crabs that were available a mere 10 years ago. Billions of dollars are easily lost
due to this decrease in production within the industry. The bay that was shown during the movie,
Chesapeake Bay, is one of the largest estuaries in the United States. This bay is very susceptible to
becoming a dead zone due to all the nitrogen and phosphorus is being brought into the bay from
farming. A dead zone does not allow or oxygen to be produced due to all the algae that are present,
and once an animal is in a trapped within a dead zone, it is only a matter of time. But this isn't just a
problem here in the United States, this is a problem that is happening all over the world. This issue
presented further affects the economy on a local scale but on a global scale.
Apart from the Chesapeake Bay not being a source for as much food as it was previously, the
estuary is also not as grandiose as it used to be. This brings down tourism which will affect the
amount of money that is being brought into the surrounding cities. And all of the resources it
provides as a place for people to swim, to catch food, to enjoy, etc., could be lost if we don't do
anything to try to make a

Solution Of Water Pollution
Introduction
People usually don't check the water they drink before drinking it because they trust that just
because it is in the bottle, water fountain, refrigerator (etc.) that it is free of pollutants, but that is not
always the case. Water pollution in drinking water is very common and dangerous because the
bacteria/pollutants can cause health problems that lead to death. There are a variety of diseases and
bacterias that lead to the health problems. What is water pollution?
Water pollution is generally described as a contaminated body of water. Water pollution is caused by
pollutants like chemicals and compounds. The Georgia Holt Environmental
Science Textbook defines water pollution as the introduction of chemicals, physical, or biological
agents into water that degrades water quality and adversely affect the organisms that depend on
water. These waters can be lakes, swamps, oceans, gulfs, rivers, aquifer and etc. Almost all water
pollution comes from industrialization and rapid population growth. Water pollution affects every
aspect of life from humans, plants, and animals. Water makes up 70% of the earth so water pollution
affects animal life such as the animals that live in water are affected because they can become sick
and die off and can affect the rest of the food chain which can affect the humans that eat them. That
contamination now is spread to the human population which negatively affects our communities and

Water Pollution Pollution is harmful to the world that we have come to love and know. Pollution's
harmful effects on the natural world, our environment is tragic. Pollution is a hazard to a human's
health, and causes a vulnerable stage to the Earth's ecosystem. There are several types of pollution
such as; noise, water, air, thermal, and many more. Water pollution, in particular, is the
contamination from harsh chemicals, from various outlets, that spread into the bodies of water that
will affect humans, land animals, aquatic animals, living plants, and many more.
First, there is point source pollution, pollution that comes from a single location. An example of a
point source pollution would be rainfall. Rainfall picks up and carries human–made pollutants, such
as harmful gases, oils, and smoke, which are then deposited into a body of water such as lakes,
rivers, and groundwaters. Factories and sewage plants are two of the common types of point source
pollution. Another main water pollution type is nonpoint source pollution, pollution that comes from
multiple locations and sources. An example of nonpoint source pollutions would be, pesticide run
offs, urban runoffs, bacteria or nutrients from livestock and crops, harmful chemicals from factories,
and many more. "As technology improves, scientists are able to detect more pollutants, and at
smaller concentrations, in Earth's freshwater bodies. Containing traces of contaminants ranging from
birth control pills and sunscreen

Water And Water Pollution
Pollution kills around nine million people every year. That total only accounts for humans, not the
numerous amounts of plants and animals that die from the effects of pollution. How does that you
feel? Many people don't know and understand what pollution is, what it does and harms, or even the
different types of pollution. According to the online dictionary, pollution is defined as "the presence
in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous
effects". There are many different types of pollution that people should know about. One of the main
pollutions is water pollution (Open Learn Create). Water pollution involves various water bodies
that get contaminated from waste that gets dumped into the water. Chemicals, pesticides, and
insecticides that flow into the water streams is also very harmful. When natural disaster strikes, like
floods or hurricanes, they cause more harmful substances from land to mix into the water. Quite a
few aquatic animals need these bodies of water to live. Another main pollution is from the air. Air
pollution is when the air is contaminated and humans and animals are breathing it in (University of
Rochester). Air pollution happens from different exhaust gases that are sent into the air from
engines. Some of these gases can be poisonous. Something that is uncommon is called acid rain. It is
caused by certain gases mixing with the atmosphere. Humans often cause air pollution by burning
plastic, wood, and rubber without knowing they give off carcinogenic gases. A pollution that can be
caused by most farmers is soil pollution. This happens when natural soil is taken over by chemicals,
pesticides, and insecticides. Without enough nutrition from natural soil, plants won't be able to
produce very well. When plants don't grow well, the soil splits and starts to erode. Noise pollution is
something that affects humans without them often times knowing. This usually happens in bigger
cities where there are cars honking, trains blaring their horns, or people shouting (Isreal). Light
pollution also generally happens in bigger cities. "The effects of light pollution on plants and
animals in the environment are numerous and are

Fresh Water Pollution
WILLIAM WRIGHT
GRANTHAM UNIVERSITY
In this paper I will discuss one of the world's problems which is the pollution of the Fresh Water
Systems in the United States. I will show how the pollution of fresh water affects land, air and plant
life to include humanity. When water is polluted it can affect all living things. Some of the human
activities that can be affected is the drinking water, without fresh drinking water humans would not
be able to survive. One of the pleasures that humans enjoy is swimming although humans can swim
in the oceans some enjoy lakes and if the lakes are polluted then that activity would not be able to be
performed. Also without fresh water much there would be lost of sea life and those who rely on
fishing as a way of life would be out of resources to provide for their families. Water pollution is a
global problem it is reported that more than 1,030327 deaths occur from dirty water diseases. Dirty
water is considered to be one of human's greatest dangers. Dirty water contains organisms which are
called pathogens; these pathogens contain bacteria, viruses and parasitic organisms. What these
organisms do is infect humans which cause illness. Some of the illness that can be caused by
polluted water is Typhoid which is an infectious bacterial; this causes fever with an outbreak of red
spots on the chest and abdomen and severe gastral irritation. Another illness is Cholera which is
infectious and is a fatal

The Effects Of Water Pollution
Pollution is a term applied to any environmental state or manifestation which is harmful or
unpleasant to life, resulting from failure to achieve or maintain control over the chemical, physical
or biological consequences or side effects of human scientific, industrial and social habits (Feugo,
2008; Anderson et al., 2005). From another perspective, water pollution refers to any physical,
biological or chemical change in water quality that adversely affects living organisms and makes
water unsuitable for desired uses as a result of anthropogenic activities (Cunningham and Saigo,
2003; Anderson et al., 2005). Many human activities from water supply and sanitation to transport,
mining and the chemical industry have the potential to pollute ... Show more content on

Other tests are not rapid, making consumers of water susceptible to waterborne diseases. In this
study, dye–doped, surface functionalized silica nanoparticles (SiNP) and surface– functionalized
magnetic nanocomposites (MNCs) were proposed as materials that can be applied in order to reduce
the time taken to get results as well as to make the processes less complex and portable. The aim of
this study was to synthesize and characterize surface functionalized dye–doped SiNPs and surface
functionalized MNCs for detection and pre–concentration of in water (Mahlangu, 2016), Yi et al.,
(2011) and Gasteiger et al., (2005) also revealed the use of (SiNP) and (MNCs) in detection and
pre–concentration. Faecal coli form and E. coli contaminations in effluent– dominated streams
The study assessed the water quality of the upper Santa Cruz watershed in southern Arizona in terms
of faecal coli form and Escherichia coli bacteria concentrations discharged as treated effluent and
from nonpoint sources into the Santa Cruz River and surrounding tributaries. The objectives were to
(1) assess the quality in the upper Santa Cruz Watershed in terms of faecal coli form and E. coli by
campaign available data to the water quality criteria established by Arizona, (2) to provide insights
into faecal indicator bacteria (FBI) response to the hydrology of the watershed and (3) to identify if

Water Quality And Water Pollution
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background information
Water is an essential resource for life which greatly influences our public and environmental health
as well as providing the pedestal for most of our economic activities. Unsustainable use of fresh
water resources, population increase, and the trend in industrial revolution have led to
environmental degradation especially by the release of partially treated or untreated wastewater into
aquatic systems. Thus, the global freshwater resource is at risk and majority of the problems that
humanity faces in the twenty–first century are related to water quantity and/or water quality issues
(UNESCO, 2009).
The importance of water for sustenance of life cannot be overemphasized and its depletion of either
through contamination, or careless use results in serious consequences (Owa, 2013). About 70 % of
the earth is covered with water, but hardly 2 % of it is quality for drinking (Mann et al., 2014). The
relative importance of water quality versus water quantity, sanitation and hygiene education
interventions for protecting the population's health has been the subject of considerable debate
(Esrey et al, 1985, 1991). Nevertheless, there is broad agreement that good water quality, free of
pathogens and heavy metals is important to human health.
Water is regarded polluted if some components or condition is existing to such a magnitude that the
water cannot be used for a particular purpose. Water pollution affects flora and organisms

Water Pollution
All over the world there are many different traces of water pollution. Water pollution is when there
are traces of both biological agents and toxic chemicals. If these agents and chemicals bypass the
usual number that is found in the water, it will become a threat. Having these chemicals in the water
not only affects the human bodies but it also affects the environment. There are three different types
of water pollution. The three different types of pollution are chemical, biological and radiological.
Chemical water pollution occurs when workers whose job is to dispose of chemicals do not dispose
of them correctly and dumps them into the water. There are eleven common types of chemical
related water pollution. The first commonly found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of water pollution is mainly occurring when there is evidence improperly disposed of
human and animal wastes and decaying organic materials in the water. Another type of water
pollution is Radiological. Radiological water pollution is when radiation levels increases. This is
caused by human activities. Although there are many types of water pollution there are many other
effects of water pollution on the environment. Polluted water has many effects on the humans,
animals and our environment. The majority of highly polluted water is in or around cities and towns
across the world. This is because chemicals, garbage, etc. is constantly dumped in our bodies of
water, without any thoughts of what the result may be. Places that are mainly known to practice
illegal dumping is health centers, manufacturing companies, markets and schools. Pollution in water
disrupts the natural habitats. Many animals that live in the various bodies of water end up dying
because of the foreign pollutants. Fishes, birds, carbs, dolphins, etc. die and wash up at the seashore
as a result. Once the pollutants such as lead and cadmium. The bigger sea animals eat the smaller
ones and passes on the pollutants to the other animals. This process affects the food chain as a
continuing process. Due to water pollution many of our ecosystems have been affected

It was just another normal Saturday out at Herrington Lake. My dad and I had packed up the
Suburban with drinks, snacks, fishing poles, bait and tackle, and headed out. For my dad and I
,fishing is a family tradition, a way for me to spend time with him when he wasn't working. So,
when we arrived, we sat our stuff down, picked up our fishing poles, and started baiting our lines.
We cast our fishing poles out, sat down on the bank, and just waited. Whether it was the time we
caught 10 fish in one sitting, or the time I caught a fishing hook in my hand, we just enjoyed getting
to do an activity we loved together. Fishing trips, just like ours, are not just a special tradition for my
family, but to many families around Kentucky. However, there's one important aspect that you may
not be thinking about on your way home, while you're trying to decide how big that fish you
"caught" was. Water pollution. About 40 percent of rivers and lakes in the U.S. surveyed by the EPA
are too polluted for swimming or fishing.7 Water pollution can threaten human health and the
environment. It can be caused by activities such as runoff from agricultural land and even trash
that's washed into bodies of water. One descriptor cause of water pollution in Kentucky is runoff
from agricultural lands. Kentucky is in the top five nationally for number of farms.1 So, agriculture
is very important. Pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers used by farmers to help crops grow and to
protect from pest/diseases

The data collected and found while in the trip, can determine who polluted the water is. It was
concluded that the water quality is good to excellent. The first graph shows the level of nitrates,
phosphates and dissolved oxygen in the water. There was an average of 2.5 ppm of nitrate found, 1.7
ppm of phosphates, and 8.7 ppm of dissolved oxygen. Phosphates and nitrates are harmful to the
water and can cause algae blooms, which then creates dead zones. These chemicals come from
farms mostly, and run down through the soil, into the water. That is why areas with an abundance of
agriculture can sometimes negatively affect their nearby water source. The dissolved oxygen level
found was also good. Dissolved oxygen is the gaseous form of oxygen found in water. Without it,
animals would not be able to survive underwater. Many factors affect how much dissolved oxygen is
in the water, such as temperature, the atmosphere, water movement speed, and plant life in the
water. The average temperature of the water was about 69 degrees Fahrenheit and about 20.5
degrees Celsius. Cooler water temperature creates more dissolved oxygen. With more dissolved
oxygen, it is easier for animals to survive in the water. Another component of the water that was
measured, was turbidity. Turbidity is how far down in the water you would be able to see with your
naked eye. If water has a high level as turbidity, it would mean that you could see far down, and the
water would be clearer. If it

Charleston's Water Pollution
Going to the beach is always a fun way to spend an afternoon, but how would people feel if the next
time they tried to catch a wave they were hit with plastic bottles and styrofoam. Charleston is such a
beautiful city but, the harbor is overcome with pollution. This Pollution travels to the oceans and to
the shores of South Carolina's beaches. The water is affecting Charleston's harbor but household
water, local businesses, and marine life in the area. Water pollution should not be looked over and
needs to be taken care of before it gets worse. More and more ways are being discovered to help

The litter has put the animals at such high risk of danger that most of these species are now
endangered. Some ways the animals are harmed are suffocating on plastic bags, getting trapped in
bottle holders, or being poisoned by the toxins in some litter.
These fish becoming poisoned by the toxins can carry disease and end up on your plate. Local
seafood restaurants or grocery stores cannot tell if the fish they serve to you has been affected by the
hazardous pollution. The fishermen that catch the fish locally cannot see a difference between the
diseased fish and normal ones either so the pollution in the community deposits into the harbor can
come right back. The local population also drinks the water that has been filtered and sometimes
contains dangerous minerals. This water runs through showers and faucets in homes that people use
every day.
These reasons all concern the local community and they should because water pollution is a serious
problem and if people do not take action immediately than Charleston's water could become a
wasteland instead of a fun afternoon. Most people believe that the pollution is too much for them to
handle, but there are multiple ways everyone can get involved and help out the community. "Dozens
of volunteers filled burlap sacks with frayed rope, empty liquor bottles, flattened drink cups, and
fragmented pieces of plastic that were pulled from the marsh" (Elmore 1). These people volunteered
to help the community by picking up trash at

Essay On Water Pollution
Water is one of the most needed elements for survival on Earth. All organisms contain it, drink it or
live in it. Water pollution has been an increasing problem for many generations. Pollution has been
around for more than a century, but people did not believe that it was a real threat until it became
more aggressive over the years. Pollution comes in many forms such as agricultural, runoff,
industrial, sedimentary, animal wastes, etc. For example, many industries began using synthetic
materials such as plastics, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), inorganic pesticides, and among other
substances that many cases lead to contamination water systems. These materials are not only toxic,
but they are also detrimental to the environment and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A nonpoint source is pollutants enter indirectly through environmental changes such as fertilizer
carried into streams by rain. In 2015, Flint rash investigation (2016) notes that there were 390 rashes
and 175 hair loss symptoms are the majority complaints in water quality and a higher level of
chlorine, pH, and water hardness factors that could lead to developing skin irritation or rashes.
Health risks in contaminated wells been exposed to concentrations of nitrate, radon, lead, and
organic compounds (DeSimone, 2009). Groundwater is considered the safest water quality to drink
in the United States claimed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. According to Kennedy,
Whitman Burrows, & Richmond (2004), "24 trace elements such as arsenic, lead, and zinc were
collected at streambed sediment sample for protection of aquatic life in 2001." Also during the
following year of 2002, "stream sediment analyzes organ chlorine pesticide, polychlorinated
biphenyls (PCBs), and semi–volatile organic compounds (SVOCs)" (Kennedy, Whitman, Burrows,

A Brief Note On Pollution And Water Pollution
The Mississippi River is the most polluted river in America, many chemicals such as phosphate and
chlorine can be polluted in the water. Precipitation can cause runoff water and can sweep trash and
chemicals into the rivers or any nearest water source. This project is concerned about if precipitation
has an effect on pollution in the Spoon river. Anybody of water that is contaminated with pollutants,
is called Water Pollution. There are two types of water pollution, Nonpoint and Point specific
pollution. Nonpoint pollution cannot be found by a specific location and can be caused by runoff
water, an example of this pollution is pesticides (Flinn Scientific, 2009). Chemicals and fertilizers
can run off into the water supply(Mary Beth Abel Hughes, James Sammons, Scott Eddleman,
Pamela J. W. Gore, Daniel P. Murray, Patsy Eldridge, 2007). Water moves over the ground and picks
up chemicals and other waste into a body of water (Flinn Scientific, 2009). Pollution that can be
pinpointed at a specific place and can be found and reduce the problem of pollution, an example of
this pollution is factories, is known as Point Specific Pollution. (Flinn Scientific, 2009). Since Earth
is becoming industrialized, water is being used and more waste is thrown into usable water (Flinn
Scientific, 2009) About 70% of factories and industries dump waste into usable
water(40factsaboutwaterpollution, 2013). Waste is produced by Industries and is dump it into the

Pollution In Water Pollution
Pollution is a major problem in water systems all around the world and in our creek. In our area,
eutrophication and acid rain are the two main pollution problems in our area. Eutrophication can be
caused by sewage treatment plants, home sewage systems, and farm fertilizer runoff. Acid rain can
be caused by the burning of fossil fuel. Eutrophication causes plants to die and when the plants die,
the bacteria from the dead plants use up the oxygen from the water, which causes the fish to die.

My hypothesis is if the creek has higher levels of phosphates and nitrates, and lower level of
dissolved oxygen, then the creek will be polluted. The levels of nitrates and phosphates should be
near 0 ppm for the creek to not be considered polluted. The dissolved oxygen levels should be
higher if the creek is healthy. Dissolved oxygen is essentially the amount of oxygen in the water. For
the acid rain test, we put a solution on different rocks to see if the acid dissolved the rocks. The
nitrate and phosphate test involved getting a specific amount of creek water, putting different
solutions in the water, and matching the solutions with other vials to determine the state of the
water.Photo Credits to Alex Cathers

Water pollution and pollution in general is a problem that people don't like to deal with. Water
pollution can cause so much damage to people and to the animals that live in that body of water. The
laws that we have are doing what they need to but we need to monitor the water more closely
because if we don't catch the pollution when it happens it could cause a big disaster. It could kill all
of the plant life that lives in the water and the animals that live there to. Some of the pollutions that
occur are very hard to clean up and things might never be the same that it was. To clean something
up it takes a lot of hours and a lot of man power to get this mess taken care of. Water pollution could

The algae plants may cause some kinds of problems but eventually they die or get eaten by other
microscopic organisms (Belsie 1999). You can't blame all of this on the farmers. This could happen
by anyone. Car exhaust can create things like this to happen to the algae plants. Everyone who
drives a car can or could be the cause foe this happening. An oil spill occurs and as soon as people
find out about it they point fingers at the oil company, but really some of the pollution is caused by
them. Many of the causes of pollution are from sewage and fertilizers containing nutrients such as
nitrates and phosphates. The nutrients over stimulate the growth of aquatic plants and algae.
Excessive growths of these plants clog our waterways, and they block the light to the deeper parts of
the water. With this it would be harmful to aquatic organisms as if affects the respiration ability of
fish and other invertebrates that live in the water. People put things along the shoreline and think
that it's alright. They might leave things at the beach and not think of anything about it, but when it
rains it washes things off banks, plowed fields, construction and logging sites into the water and it
put harms to the water, the environment, and the animals that live in the water. Some people think if
they throw something into the water it won't hurt nothing because its just that one time and they
won't do it again, but If everyone was

The Importance Of Water Pollution
Water pollution is a serious environmental issue worldwide. 1 Water is one of the most valuable
resources on our planet; having clean water is vitally important for our survival. Here in the United
States, the Clean Water Act of 1972 was very successful in reducing point sources of water
pollution; however, it has been ineffective in reducing nonpoint sources of water pollution (Manuel,
2014). Nitrogen and phosphorous that originate from agricultural sources, such as manure and
inorganic fertilizer, are contributing to nonpoint source pollution of our waterways. Also referred to
as nutrient pollution, this issue is created by the runoff of excess nutrients into waterways and the
effects of this can reach hundreds or even thousands of miles ... Show more content on

This leads to a great amount of oxygen in the water being consumed by the algae as it decomposes,
potentially leading to hypoxia, or dead zones, which can kill nearly all aquatic organisms (Manuel,
2014). An example of this is in the Gulf of Mexico at the mouth of the Mississippi River, with a
dead zone of nearly 5500 square miles (Manuel, 2014). HAB's can also impair bodies of water that
serve as a source of drinking water, such as in Toledo, Ohio, where residents were faced with not
having a safe source of water (Manuel, 2014). According to the USDA (2015), this sort of problem
is widespread. Nutrient pollution can also be seen due to accidental leakages of manure, with many
reported instances locally. In a recent occurrence of this, manure leaked from a broken pipeline into
a nearby stream, ending up in a nearby lake, potentially polluting groundwater and lake water, both
local sources of drinking water.
There are many threats to human health from HAB's, including: 2 stomach cramps, vomiting,
nausea, diarrhea, fever, headache, skin irritation, muscle and joint pain, blisters of the mouth, and
liver damage (Manuel, 2014). If the toxins become airborne, respiratory illnesses have also been
reported (EPA, 2015). At Grand Lake St. Marys, Ohio, which is a source of drinking water, it was
reported that there were 23 cases of human illnesses and dog deaths due to HAB's in 2011 (EPA,
2015). In Sarasota County, Florida, 218 emergency room visits have been reported

Over the past fifty years, Hawaii has seen a drastic increase in ocean and land pollution. There has
been a lot of plastic in the ocean after it has been discarded from use. It affects marine life and us
because we eat fish what if fish that are contaminated with poison or full with plastic in them then
we eat it, it's really bad for our environment. This increase in pollution is harming the environment
in Hawaii. Our food sources, marine life, and wildlife are being negatively affected through air
pollutants, water contamination, and physical waste from human activity. Pollution rates need to
rapidly decline if we want to stray abroad the potential, irreversible effects on the environment of
Hawaii, as well as the entire world.
New mountains are forming in Hawaii, and they aren't lush and green like the ones endemic to the
islands. These are massive mounds of trash swelling in size, day by day. Landfill limits are soon to
be exceeded and new grounds are being selected for additional pollution. According to an article on
the Kekaha Landfill on the west side of Kauai, there is only around 10 years worth of trash life
anticipated in that particular location. This means that new dumping grounds will be searched for on
this small island, polluting more of Kauai. However, some of these landfills are well maintained and
designed as a part of waste treatment. Weather it be solid or liquid matter that is contaminated, it
will eventually make its way into the ocean or onto the

pollution is in our homes when the government "treats" out water they are actually putting harmful
chemicals in the water to "clean" it."The problem is that normal degradation leaves particles that can
still be harmful to living things – nanoparticles and microparticles,In addition, plastic is not
biodegradable well it takes 10,000 years for one water bottle to biodegrade so it last very long and
for that times it will continue to harm many animals."Water pollution is a major contributor to
declining health and wellbeing of animals, plants, ecosystems, and even human beings in the United
States and in the rest of the world."As you can see, most pollution comes from land for example
plastic comes from factories then ends up in the ocean.

Water pollution from combined sewer overflow (CSO) into rivers and other waterways has become
an increasing problem in the United States. An estimated 850 billion gallons of untreated storm and
sewage water are released into our waterways each year. Given that our grey water infrastructures
are unable to handle the volume of water entering their systems, a sustainable, eco–friendly solution
is needed. A constructed wetland is a type of green infrastructure that can help to solve this problem
of CSO. The cost of constructing this green infrastructure is less than that of traditional grey
infrastructure. Advantages of the constructed wetland goes beyond improved water quality, to
include lower operational costs, an added recreational area, increased habitat which could lead to
greater diversity of wildlife. Educating local officials and community members about the benefits
and sustainability of the green infrastructure will be vital in initiating the process of creating a
wetland.
Wetland Construction for Water Treatment The environmental issue this paper will address is water
pollution in our rivers and other waterways. More specifically the pollution that occurs from storm
runoff. There are 772 combined sewer systems in the United States. Combined sewer systems are
sewers that transport storm water and industrial/municipal waste water to publicly owned treatment
plants through the same pipe. During rainy weather, the combined runoff and sewage flows can
exceed the limits of

Heavy pollution can be found all across China, though it is more concentrated in the east than
anywhere else. But where does all of this pollution come from? Many people would assume that it is
generated only urban or industrial areas(This is also true for air pollution); however, farmers play a
big role in polluting the water. With a fast–growing population and economy farmers are required to
produce more crops every year. This has led them into using organochlorine pesticides which was
heavily used in the 1950s to the 1970s to control agricultural and get rid of mosquitoes. According
to Farmers continue to use harmful chemicals such as polychlorinated biphenyls which is used for
lubrication on farming equipment such as tractors, air compressors, pumps, and other agricultural
machinery however it was later found to be harmful to the environment and cause cancer to animals
(ATSDR). The list continues on with polybrominated diphenyl ethers which is a flame retardant,
polychlorinated dibenzo–p–dioxins which is used as a herbicide, and ammonium perfluorooctanoate
which is a pesticide. With all of these chemicals in the water it puts China at one of the highest
polluted countries on earth. Due to the high amount of pollution in the water it makes China's water
resources very limited as it has been quoted that only 20–25% of China's water is actually
consumable or usable for agriculture/industrial use. In fact in 2005 research shows that out of the

Sea Water Pollution
I. Title
Water pollution has many different meanings, in most cases it is when one or more material builds
up in the water causing a problem for people and/ or animals. Water pollution is one of the world's
largest problems that we are facing today. Everyone in this world is affect by the earth's water. Some
are affected differently than others but we are still affected in one way or another. Water pollution
doesn't only threaten humans; it threatens plants and animals as well as sea creatures. Hazardous
dumping of toxins and other dangerous materials is one of the most serious problems of sea
pollution. Pollution of the sea can kill human beings as well as the animals. This paper will analyze
the cause / detection of sea pollution, what methods are used in measuring sea pollution, the areas
that are most affected, some of the most recent and current water pollution activities, and the ways
that water pollution can possibly be eliminated.
II. Background Information
There are many different types of water pollution. These types of pollutants in the rivers and lakes
will kill the fishes and other sea animals. Some types of pollution are Runoffs, Oil pollution,
Sewage, and Organic. Sea pollution is not bad for everyone; the water companies make more money
when there is more pollution in the water. On the other end many corporations depend on unpolluted
water for their fishing industries. Sea water pollution causes many different problems in the world.

Cancer– it is one of those words that people whisper in hush tones behind closed doors. It's the type
of word that brings nothing but heartbreak. The second the words "you have cancer" are said, the
clock starts ticking away at the time you have left louder than an airhorn. Cancer uncovers the
fighters that have been hidden away. It is one of the worst battles to fight, because ultimately it is
already a battle lost. In 2012, 14.1 million people were diagnosed with cancer. In that same year 8.2
million people died from it. There is predicted to be 23.6 million people diagnosed with cancer each
year by 2030. (CancerResearchUK) However, some countries suffer more than others. China alone
is responsible for 22% of new cancer cases and almost 27% of global cancer deaths
(CancerStatisticsinChina). Why is cancer such an issue here? Outside of genetics, this is largely due
to the country's polluted environments, specifically the air pollution and the water pollution. China
began seeing an increase in cancer a few decades ago when their industrial movement began.
Pollution from the factories seem to be the leading cause of cancer in the Chinese population. This is
a major socioeconomic issue because in order to clean the environment, factories would be forced to
close or relocate. Initially, the Chinese government denied that cancer was a byproduct of pollution.
Although recently they were forced to acknowledge its effect and has since been making an effort to
clean their

There are many forms of pollution throughout the United States, but one of the major sections of
pollution is in our water ways. Having pollution throughout our water causes many problems not
only for the environments within the water, and the environments outside of it as well. One of the
major concerns when it comes to pollution is that people do not seem to care as much as they
should. They don't view it as a big problem, when in reality, it is one of the biggest problems facing
the world today.
One of the biggest ways that the water in the United States is getting polluted is from all of the
technological advances pertaining to agriculture. Many agriculture practices are being used to
produce more food for people, in the country, at lower prices. While mass production of crops might
be good for humans financially, it is taking a toll on the environment. Much of the pollution that is
created by agriculture is known to cause dead zones. A dead zone is created when there is too much
fertilizer in the water and algae starts to grow abundantly. After the algae dies it then proceeds to
take all of the oxygen from the water leaving virtually none for the other organisms. According to
Poisoned water, dead zones are doubling in frequency and size every 10 years. One thing that has
been done to help regulate the amount of pollution coming from agricultural, was the clean water
act. The clean water act set up regulations for discharging pollutants into the water and regulating

Varieties of infectious diseases in the main water reserves that people supply to their cities and
towns and in different countries around the world can be spread through water and influence water
consumption of humans and also alter how they grow their plants and provide water for their
animals. Some water– borne diseases such as Typhoid, Cholera, and Malaria can make people sick
when they consume or come in contact with. Each year 1.2 trillion gallons of untreated sewage,
stormwater, and mechanical squander are dumped into US water. This sewage often contains faeces,
urine and laundry waste and is treated in water treatment plants. In many undeveloped countries,
polluted water is a major negative factor in their lives. Many developing and undeveloped to
western standards have a big issue with this; countries like Uganda are one of the leading countries
suffering from water pollution. Uganda is filled with most fresh water, but with a high bacterial
content.
More than 75% of the population of Uganda get their water from underground. This water can hold
diseases that are both from water contact and water borne. This water affects millions of people that
don't have access to safe water. This water also holds many diseases such as E Coli and other
diseases that have people hospitalized.

Water is a transparent and nearly colorless chemical substance that is the main constituent of Earth's
streams, lakes, and oceans, and the fluids of most living organisms, water can be liquid, solid or gas,
is tasteless and odorless. Water covers 71% of the Earth's surface. On Earth, 97% of the planet's
crust water is found in seas and oceans and only 3% of this water is freshwater, and 98.8% of that
water is in ice.
Countries with more water in the world are:
Brazil
Russia

Canada
China
Colombia
Peru
Water cover 71% of the Earth. Salt water represent 97% of the world water, this water are in oceans,
rivers and lakes (Example: Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Caspian Sea or Indian Sea). The other 3%
are fresh water that is in polar glaciers, rivers, lakes, subterranean and in the atmosphere.
Subterranean water represents 30% of the total fresh water in the world, which is second only after
the fresh water in the poles (Antarctic ice). Subterranean water is naturally fresh and clean, but the
growing of big cities pollutes important aquifers, as those who are in Mexico City, Cairo, Libya,
Algeria, and the aquifer more extensive in the world that is in Amazon rainforest between Bolivia,
Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela. The American continent is that more water have in

Water pollution is bringing down the economy, destroys the beauty of nature, and causing harmful
dreaded diseases and sickness in precious health of many individual.
INTRODUCTION
Water pollution progresses every day in our lakes, oceans, rivers, and other bodies of water that we
see and use in many ways. Water is essential for all living things to survive, yet people still pollute
it. It's pretty sad to be taking a trip to the beach with your family and you get there to see a sign that

Pathogen discharges may also be caused by poorly–managed livestock operations.
Chemical and other contaminants
Contaminants may include organic and inorganic substances.
Organic water pollutants include:
Detergents
Disinfection by–products found in chemically disinfected drinking water, such as chloroform
Food processing waste, which can include oxygen–demanding substances, fats and grease
Insecticides and herbicides, a huge range of organohalides and other chemical compounds
Petroleum hydrocarbons, including fuels (gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuels, and fuel oil) and lubricants
(motor oil), and fuel combustion byproducts, from stormwater runoff[15]
Tree and bush debris from logging operations
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as industrial solvents, from improper storage. Chlorinated
solvents, which are dense non–aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs), may fall to the bottom of
reservoirs, since they don't mix well with water and are denser.
Various chemical compounds found in personal hygiene and cosmetic products
Inorganic water pollutants include:
Acidity caused by industrial discharges (especially sulfur dioxide from power plants)
Ammonia from food processing waste
Chemical waste as industrial by–products

Water Pollution Vs Stormwater Pollution
Abstract Stormwater pollution impacts the quality of both the environment and human health. It
degrades natural resources, threatens economic prosperity and poses health and safety risks to
communities. Stormwater pollution is the result of urban and industrial runoff getting washed into
the storm drains, seriously affecting all of our nation's water sources. Federal regulations and
pollution prevention measures can significantly influence the quality of our water, our environment
and our health. Introduction Stormwater pollution is a significant environmental and public health
issue. Stormwater pollution has substantial impacts on water quality, posing risks to the health and
safety of residential communities while degrading natural resources and threatening economical
revenues. Stormwater pollution is created when trash, waste and other contaminants are washed into
storm drains. When mixed with rainwater, this toxic mixture flows untreated into local creeks, rivers
and the ocean, polluting waterways and damaging natural resources. This paper will analyze various
historical and regulatory aspects of water quality, discuss some of the major sources of stormwater
pollution and look at the various ways stormwater pollution prevention techniques can be
implemented to improve the quality of our water. Point Source vs. Non–point Source Pollution First,
it is important to distinguish between point source and non–point source (NPS) pollution.

Water Pollution Is the Contamination of Water Bodies
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans and groundwater).
Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water; and, in almost all cases
the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to the natural
biological communities.
Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies
without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.

However where such water is not channeled and drains directly to ground it is a non–point source.
[edit] Groundwater pollution
See also: Hydrogeology
Interactions between groundwater and surface water are complex. Consequently, groundwater
pollution, sometimes referred to as groundwater contamination, is not as easily classified as surface
water pollution.[7] By its very nature, groundwater aquifers are susceptible to contamination from
sources that may not directly affect surface water bodies, and the distinction of point vs. non–point
source may be irrelevant. A spill or ongoing releases of chemical or radionuclide contaminants into
soil (located away from a surface water body) may not create point source or non–point source
pollution, but can contaminate the aquifer below, defined as a toxin plume. The movement of the
plume, a plume front, can be part of a Hydrological transport model or Groundwater model.
Analysis of groundwater contamination may focus on the soil characteristics and site geology,
hydrogeology, hydrology, and the nature of the contaminants.
[edit] Causes of water pollution
The specific contaminants leading to pollution in water include a wide spectrum of chemicals,
pathogens, and physical or sensory changes such as elevated temperature and discoloration. While
many of the chemicals and substances that are regulated may be naturally occurring (calcium,

Water And Water Pollution
Water is an essential to human life, our body uses water for hydration and various functions. For
example, metabolism, digestion, and elimination of waste. Dehydration causes our bodies to feel
tired and weak which is why we need about 20 liters of fresh water a day to survive. Water gives our
bodies plenty of benefits for example: cleanses the skin, keeps joints lubricated, removes toxins, etc.
Drinking plenty of water will reduce the amount of headaches you get and it will severely boost
your immune system. If you want to keep your weight steady and healthy, water will sure do the job
at helping with that. Since our brains are seventy–five percent water, drinking it will help you focus,
think, concentrate, and be much more alert.
Water needs to be treated carefully so that it can be safe to drink. Groundwater contamination is
more difficult to identify as surface water pollution. When pollutants get released into the ground
and make their way into the water, then that water will be polluted and dangerous to consume.
Pollutants can be spread over large areas when the water moves around. Water pollution can occur
in many ways such as: on–site sanitation systems, landfills, leaking sewers, etc. Poisoning or spread
of disease is sure to occur when polluted groundwater has entered the body. Some contaminants
found in groundwater are inorganic chemicals, bacteriological, and radioactive parameters. Sewage
waste water that goes into crops can also be a source of infection.

"Without water, life would not exist." This is a quote taken from Water.org. However, it needs a little
clarification, Without clean water, life will not exist for long. There are many countries today that do
not have access to clean water. This necessity we the people of the United States of America take for
granted is not a normal occurrence in every country. With this paper we will look at five different
countries with the most polluted water in the world. We will see what is being done to help reduce
the water pollution and how the water pollution is effecting the economy is these countries. The first
country on the list is China. More specifically Linfen, China. In 2007 Linfen was dubbed by Time
Magazine the most polluted city in the world. The air was so dirty from all the coal mining that it
would turn the laundry drying on the line black from all of the coal dust. The residents literally
choke at night dues to the coal dust. Every resident over 60 dies from lung disease. (Schmitt) It is
also estimated that over half of Linfen's well water is considered unsafe to drink. (motherboard)
Clean water is a necessity for a thriving economy. Much of the pollution in Linfen is found in the
smog that is in the air, however, it is in the water as well. To live in Linfen and know that if you live
to 60 you will probably die from lung disease soon after. Although, Linfen is trying to improve their
lifestyle with recycling and trash cleanup they simply will not stop the coal mining business. Which
in all fairness is understandable since coal mining is the heartbeat of the economy for Linfen.
However, there should be more research into purifying their water and lowering the coal dust, but all
in all things are looking up for Linfen. The residents are optimistic that they can reduce the pollution
and they can have a thriving economy too. The next place we look at is Haina, Dominican Republic.
Haina has a problem with battery recycling and smelting which has resulted in huge concentration
of lead being pumped into their water. (science/nature) Lead poisoning is a huge problem. Unlike
some poisons that may wears off a little with time lead stays in the body and builds up until
eventually the person drops dead.

Water And Water Pollution
When a person is asked what water is, the first things that they say are; water is drinkable, used for
showers, simple, washing, etc.. But people don't really know how complex and important water is
for our kind. Water is one of the most precious things we humans have, but we don't realize it and
we damage it without caring for the consequences. Water and water pollution are two things that we
should all have in mind. Even though we see water as just a liquid, but there's more to it than its
form or state.
One of the most common descriptions for water is that it is transparent and nearly colorless. The
truth is that the chemistry of water shows us what this liquid is in a molecular level. Water is made

Water is a substance that is constituent of earth's streams, lakes, and oceans. But water is also
present in the atmosphere. As mentioned before there's water located in the atmosphere. Nearly all
of the water is located in the lowest layer of the atmosphere also known as the troposphere. We
cannot feel or see this this water because "it is present in variable amounts in the atmosphere, from
0% to 4%" ("Water in the Atmosphere"). This is the main reason why we cannot see nor feel the
water in the atmosphere. If we think about it there almost no water in the atmosphere because earth
is huge and 4% of water spread all around the world is a little bit.
When we talk about how water is being polluted we just justify ourselves saying that there is a lot of
water in this world and that a little bit of it getting damaged doesn't matter at all. To understand the
consequences of water pollution we first have to know what water pollution is and how it happens.
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies like lakes, rivers and oceans. This form of
environmental degradation occurs "when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water
bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds" ("Wikipedia"). Chemical waste

The Problem Of Water Pollution
Sad Waters The world we live in is has many problems that cause a lot of bad, with many ongoing
issues that have been occurring for so many years and now today. Every day there are daily routines
that affect the life of humans and the life of other living organisms. The earth is a valuable and
fragile place that can only do its best to care for itself. Water is essential to life as we know it. If
people use it, trash it and do not care for it, then this place that is a home to many will soon die.
Water is polluted every day. Water pollution has been a big issue that has been a world–wide
problem. The current water pollution is worse than it had been a few years ago, this problem

All of this inappropriate contamination, of used water, and horrible discharge of the different and
numerous waste water in the water sources, that are barely there, consist in bad result of water
pollution. In the majority of cases, the water is filled with dangerous chemicals and radioactive
materials that will hurt the public and any other living organisms. Water pollution can be identified
in numerous ways and be talked about in how they cause a certain place or situation but it will still
be all similar. Though water can naturally clean and better some problems, pollution is still bad
enough and hurts more than a few aspects water itself cannot handle. Prohibiting not only industrial
pollution but agricultural pollution would change everything and the life people live. When it comes
to agricultural pollution, the interests of farmers, environmentalists, and consumers may have
diverged to a large degree when focusing exclusively on agricultural water pollution. They are the
main reasons why this issue exists and so continuously occurs. Though there are more than a few
reasons for why this type of pollution is a big problem, like a person throwing their drink bottles or
cups, chip bags, trash bags, leftover plastics and other toxic disposals onto the floor which will soon

Water Pollution
More than two–thirds of the Earth's surface is covered in water and, as global population continues
to grow, so does the pressure placed on water and the resources it contains. This pressure has caused
many devastating issues to the ecosystems of large bodies of waters, where the evidence of human
interference can be found in every square centimeter. Perhaps the most local example of these
treacherous impacts can be found within the waters of the Lake of the Ozarks. Water pollution at the
lake creates hazards for both the aquatic wildlife and tourists visiting the area. E. coli, a common
bacteria found in the waters, has caused hundreds of deaths globally due to the illness it causes and
poses a great risk to the high volumes of tourists that the area attracts each year. In addition to the
human risk, the waste and runoff from storms and developing infrastructure have the potential to
harm, and even kill, the organisms living in and around the area.
The Lake of the Ozarks is a manmade, freshwater ecosystem which contains both biotic and abiotic
components. The diverse ecosystem is inhabited by insects, fish, algae, and amphibians, such as
snakes and frogs. It is also impacted by abiotic components such as soil quality and variety,
temperature, and exposure to sunlight. This fragile balance is constantly threatened by many factors,
the most detrimental of which is caused by the humans living in the area. Many residents living on
or near the Lake of the Ozarks utilize septic

Water And Water Pollution
When we think about water pollution what comes to mind? have we ever thought about how water
pollution affects plants and human life? In this essay i'll talk about in what ways water pollution
affects these topics today. Over two thirds of Earth's surface is covered by water less than a third is
taken up by land so the condition of the water and how we keep it is pretty important. All living
organisms need water to survive on this earth but what happens if the water is no longer clean or
usable?
First things first what even is water pollution and how does it affect you. Well you see you drink it
you bathe in it the plants and animals you eat consume it. Not to mention the weather around you is
effected by it so it affects you in every way. Okay let's focus on how it can affect plants and
ecosystems around us.
Water pollution that alters a plant's surrounding pH level, such as acid rain, can harm or kill the
plant. Acid rain forms because of atmospheric sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, which can
happen with volcanic activity, burning fossil fuels as well as exhaust from buses, trucks and cars.
These compounds interact with common atmospheric chemicals, such as hydrogen and oxygen, to
form sulfuric and nitric acids in the air. These acids return to earth through precipitation, such as rain
or snow. Once acid rain reaches the ground, it flows into waterways that carry its acidic compounds
into bodies of water. Acid rain that collects in aquatic environments lowers water

Water Pollution Is The Contamination Of Water
The topic for this final paper is water pollution, water pollution is the contamination of natural water
bodies that contain many hazardous chemicals that can affect human health. This can have
devastating consequences in the lower poorer countries around the world where there is no way for
the people there to have access to fresh ,and clean water. That 's why in this final essay it explains to
the reader all of the hazardous ways you or your family could and even may be at risk for water
pollution wherever you go around the world whether it has a unfiltered river system, or it has a
proper filtration system and it somewhat fails and the people that work there does inform the public
of the imminent dangers of all the unfiltered and unprocessed drinking or everyday use water. That
is why this essay provides the reader an example of how Water
Pollution can affect everyone globally, and how there are many health issues that goes with that
issue , and how it can impact any country 's economic status.

Effects of Water Pollutants on Different Parameters: Effect of water pollutants on different
parameters most commonly associated with water quality are: (i) Colour (ii) Taste and odour (iii)
Hardness (iv) pH (i) Colour: As the colourless pure water travels through nature, it becomes
coloured by various impurities. The tannins, humic acid etc. present in the organic debris water is
aesthetically unacceptable and unsuitable for bathing, laundering, beverage manufacturing, food

water include minerals, metals, soil salts, iron, manganese, phenols, free chlorine, unsaturated
hydrocarbons, hydro¬gen sulphide and end products from biological reactions. Water tastes bitter
when contaminated with alkaline impurities and salty when the impurities are metallic salts.
Biological decomposition of organic debris impart a characteristic taste and odour of rotten eggs
which is mainly due to hydrogen sulphide. Growth of algae, micro–organisms, hydrogen sulphide
and ammonia give an obnoxious odour to water making if unfit for use. The unpleasant taste and
odour is aesthetically unacceptable even though it may not pose any serious threat to health. (iii)

The Pros And Cons Of Water Pollution
In accordance with the ethics of Bentham in the line of utilitarianism, my moral argument against
water pollution is thus:
1 Right actions are those that result in the most beneficial balance of good over bad consequences.
2 The Great Lakes water pollution's bad consequences outweighs its good consequences.
3 Therefore, pollution is not a right action.
Water pollution is defined as "a change in the chemical, physical and biological health of a
waterway due to human activity" (1). Over the past 50 years, pollution in the Great Lakes has been a
rising concern. Pollution in the Great Lakes includes the disposal of sewage, heavy metals, invasive
species, and pesticides that come from factory dumping, runoff of agriculture, nautical
transportation, and air pollution. According to an article published by the US Department of
Commerce, roughly 40 million people depend on the Great Lakes for drinking water, sport, power
(electricity), and transportation (McCartney). The negative consequences of water pollution include,
but are not limited to, the killing off of vital organisms, an increase in birth defects, infertility,
malfunctioning nervous systems, and learning disabilities (McCartney).
The pros of water pollution in the Great Lakes can be boiled down to the single idea that we can
continue living on the way we currently are. We get foods that are preserved well and in abundance
because of pesticides used in agriculture, even though they don't have to take into consideration

Pollution Water Pollution

  • 1. Pollution Water Pollution Did you know that out beautiful ocean is being polluted by 12.7 million tonnes of rubbish each year? Our oceans are being polluted by us, which is unnecessary as we need the water clean because 97% of our water supply is from there. If we continue to keep mistreating it, we will be left with only 3% of water to use in everyday situations like showering and watering the garden. It isn't enough especially with the growth in population. Did you know that 30% of all CO2 commissions is absorbed by the ocean? So, all this proves that our ocean is essential for living. Thankfully, we have two amazing heros –Andrew Turton and Pete Ceginsle– have invented a amazing invention called the Seabin. What is the Seabin? We are so incredibly lucky Andrew and Peter have found a solution to fix what we have called– water pollution. They invented the 'Seabin' which is a cylinder that floated upright. It has a water pump in it that sucks up all the floating debris and oil on the surface. The Seabin has been very successful as it collectes approximately 1.5 kilograms of rubbish everyday. $50,000 was raised towards the Seabin protect because each bin costs around $3,800 to make. And to make it even more Eco–friendly, each bins has been created from 75–100% recyclable materials. All the rubbish they catch by using the Seabin, they us that to create more and more Seabins. Problems with water pollution They are so many problems for us and our marine life due to careless people littering each day. Did you know shat on average, each person throws away around 2.7 kilogram of rubbish everyday. Do you every wonder how much of that ends up in the ocean, killing and hurting our innocent animals? Think of every piece of plastic you leave in the environment. It will soon end up in the environment and be there for another 400 years. Did you know, that 37 million gallons of oil are spilled into out oceans, worldwide each year? The oil then sits on the water, preventing animals to get sunlight. This causes a vitamin D difisancy, which could potentially cause them to die out. Oil spills have have killed and harmed approximately 82,000 birds over 102 species. Other animals that are hurt from oil spills are animals with blow holes and feathers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Water Pollution Water pollution in Tennessee is a major environmental issue. Polluted rivers and streams are major problems because the water inside of them is supposed to be a clean source of water, but sadly that's not the case. In order to stop this, we have to keep moving forward to find a solution. First, the Tennessee River is one of the United States most polluted rivers. In 2015, the West Morgan–East Lawrence Water Authority and three North Alabama residents filed a class action lawsuit against 3M Company, Dyneon, and Daikin America for polluting the Tennessee River with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). These are man–made chemicals that are used for making items fire resistant and oil, stain, grease, and water repellant. The lawsuit states that the chemicals can cause health issues such as cancer, immune system issues, thyroid disease, ulcerative colitis, and high cholesterol. The 3M Company knew that the levels for safe drinking water were inadequate and that the PFOS and PFOA levels in the water were dangerously high. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry analyzed the blood serum of 121 people in nearby locations and found that elevated levels of PFOA were found in the blood. The Tennessee River supplies at least four million people with drinking water. Electric power production from hydropower and coal–fired power plants has dramatically changed the river. A series of dams has significantly altered the river's shape and has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Water Pollution In The Movie : Poisoned Water Poisoned Waters, the movie, touches upon many important things that are brought up when there is water pollution. In the movie, at the beginning, it shows how often many people are affected by the pollution. Many people lose their jobs due to the pollution not allowing them to fish for the amount of fish, oysters, or crabs that were available a mere 10 years ago. Billions of dollars are easily lost due to this decrease in production within the industry. The bay that was shown during the movie, Chesapeake Bay, is one of the largest estuaries in the United States. This bay is very susceptible to becoming a dead zone due to all the nitrogen and phosphorus is being brought into the bay from farming. A dead zone does not allow or oxygen to be produced due to all the algae that are present, and once an animal is in a trapped within a dead zone, it is only a matter of time. But this isn't just a problem here in the United States, this is a problem that is happening all over the world. This issue presented further affects the economy on a local scale but on a global scale. Apart from the Chesapeake Bay not being a source for as much food as it was previously, the estuary is also not as grandiose as it used to be. This brings down tourism which will affect the amount of money that is being brought into the surrounding cities. And all of the resources it provides as a place for people to swim, to catch food, to enjoy, etc., could be lost if we don't do anything to try to make a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Solution Of Water Pollution Introduction People usually don't check the water they drink before drinking it because they trust that just because it is in the bottle, water fountain, refrigerator (etc.) that it is free of pollutants, but that is not always the case. Water pollution in drinking water is very common and dangerous because the bacteria/pollutants can cause health problems that lead to death. There are a variety of diseases and bacterias that lead to the health problems. What is water pollution? Water pollution is generally described as a contaminated body of water. Water pollution is caused by pollutants like chemicals and compounds. The Georgia Holt Environmental Science Textbook defines water pollution as the introduction of chemicals, physical, or biological agents into water that degrades water quality and adversely affect the organisms that depend on water. These waters can be lakes, swamps, oceans, gulfs, rivers, aquifer and etc. Almost all water pollution comes from industrialization and rapid population growth. Water pollution affects every aspect of life from humans, plants, and animals. Water makes up 70% of the earth so water pollution affects animal life such as the animals that live in water are affected because they can become sick and die off and can affect the rest of the food chain which can affect the humans that eat them. That contamination now is spread to the human population which negatively affects our communities and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Water Pollution Water Pollution Pollution is harmful to the world that we have come to love and know. Pollution's harmful effects on the natural world, our environment is tragic. Pollution is a hazard to a human's health, and causes a vulnerable stage to the Earth's ecosystem. There are several types of pollution such as; noise, water, air, thermal, and many more. Water pollution, in particular, is the contamination from harsh chemicals, from various outlets, that spread into the bodies of water that will affect humans, land animals, aquatic animals, living plants, and many more. First, there is point source pollution, pollution that comes from a single location. An example of a point source pollution would be rainfall. Rainfall picks up and carries human–made pollutants, such as harmful gases, oils, and smoke, which are then deposited into a body of water such as lakes, rivers, and groundwaters. Factories and sewage plants are two of the common types of point source pollution. Another main water pollution type is nonpoint source pollution, pollution that comes from multiple locations and sources. An example of nonpoint source pollutions would be, pesticide run offs, urban runoffs, bacteria or nutrients from livestock and crops, harmful chemicals from factories, and many more. "As technology improves, scientists are able to detect more pollutants, and at smaller concentrations, in Earth's freshwater bodies. • 21. Water And Water Pollution Pollution kills around nine million people every year. That total only accounts for humans, not the numerous amounts of plants and animals that die from the effects of pollution. How does that you feel? Many people don't know and understand what pollution is, what it does and harms, or even the different types of pollution. According to the online dictionary, pollution is defined as "the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects". There are many different types of pollution that people should know about. One of the main pollutions is water pollution (Open Learn Create). Water pollution involves various water bodies that get contaminated from waste that gets dumped into the water. Chemicals, pesticides, and insecticides that flow into the water streams is also very harmful. When natural disaster strikes, like floods or hurricanes, they cause more harmful substances from land to mix into the water. Quite a few aquatic animals need these bodies of water to live. Another main pollution is from the air. Air pollution is when the air is contaminated and humans and animals are breathing it in (University of Rochester). Air pollution happens from different exhaust gases that are sent into the air from engines. Some of these gases can be poisonous. Something that is uncommon is called acid rain. It is caused by certain gases mixing with the atmosphere. Humans often cause air pollution by burning plastic, wood, and rubber without knowing they give off carcinogenic gases. A pollution that can be caused by most farmers is soil pollution. This happens when natural soil is taken over by chemicals, pesticides, and insecticides. Without enough nutrition from natural soil, plants won't be able to produce very well. When plants don't grow well, the soil splits and starts to erode. Noise pollution is something that affects humans without them often times knowing. This usually happens in bigger cities where there are cars honking, trains blaring their horns, or people shouting (Isreal). Light pollution also generally happens in bigger cities. "The effects of light pollution on plants and animals in the environment are numerous and are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Pollution Of Water Pollution Fresh Water Pollution WILLIAM WRIGHT GRANTHAM UNIVERSITY In this paper I will discuss one of the world's problems which is the pollution of the Fresh Water Systems in the United States. I will show how the pollution of fresh water affects land, air and plant life to include humanity. When water is polluted it can affect all living things. Some of the human activities that can be affected is the drinking water, without fresh drinking water humans would not be able to survive. One of the pleasures that humans enjoy is swimming although humans can swim in the oceans some enjoy lakes and if the lakes are polluted then that activity would not be able to be performed. Also without fresh water much there would be lost of sea life and those who rely on fishing as a way of life would be out of resources to provide for their families. Water pollution is a global problem it is reported that more than 1,030327 deaths occur from dirty water diseases. Dirty water is considered to be one of human's greatest dangers. Dirty water contains organisms which are called pathogens; these pathogens contain bacteria, viruses and parasitic organisms. What these organisms do is infect humans which cause illness. Some of the illness that can be caused by polluted water is Typhoid which is an infectious bacterial; this causes fever with an outbreak of red spots on the chest and abdomen and severe gastral irritation. Another illness is Cholera which is infectious and is a fatal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Effects Of Water Pollution Pollution is a term applied to any environmental state or manifestation which is harmful or unpleasant to life, resulting from failure to achieve or maintain control over the chemical, physical or biological consequences or side effects of human scientific, industrial and social habits (Feugo, 2008; Anderson et al., 2005). From another perspective, water pollution refers to any physical, biological or chemical change in water quality that adversely affects living organisms and makes water unsuitable for desired uses as a result of anthropogenic activities (Cunningham and Saigo, 2003; Anderson et al., 2005). Many human activities from water supply and sanitation to transport, mining and the chemical industry have the potential to pollute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this study, dye–doped, surface functionalized silica nanoparticles (SiNP) and surface– functionalized magnetic nanocomposites (MNCs) were proposed as materials that can be applied in order to reduce the time taken to get results as well as to make the processes less complex and portable. The aim of this study was to synthesize and characterize surface functionalized dye–doped SiNPs and surface functionalized MNCs for detection and pre–concentration of in water (Mahlangu, 2016), Yi et al., (2011) and Gasteiger et al., (2005) also revealed the use of (SiNP) and (MNCs) in detection and pre–concentration. Faecal coli form and E. coli contaminations in effluent– dominated streams The study assessed the water quality of the upper Santa Cruz watershed in southern Arizona in terms of faecal coli form and Escherichia coli bacteria concentrations discharged as treated effluent and from nonpoint sources into the Santa Cruz River and surrounding tributaries. The objectives were to (1) assess the quality in the upper Santa Cruz Watershed in terms of faecal coli form and E. coli by campaign available data to the water quality criteria established by Arizona, (2) to provide insights into faecal indicator bacteria (FBI) response to the hydrology of the watershed and (3) to identify if point sources or nonpoint sources are the major contributors of ... • 33. Water Quality And Water Pollution CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background information Water is an essential resource for life which greatly influences our public and environmental health as well as providing the pedestal for most of our economic activities. Unsustainable use of fresh water resources, population increase, and the trend in industrial revolution have led to environmental degradation especially by the release of partially treated or untreated wastewater into aquatic systems. Thus, the global freshwater resource is at risk and majority of the problems that humanity faces in the twenty–first century are related to water quantity and/or water quality issues (UNESCO, 2009). The importance of water for sustenance of life cannot be overemphasized and its depletion of either through contamination, or careless use results in serious consequences (Owa, 2013). About 70 % of the earth is covered with water, but hardly 2 % of it is quality for drinking (Mann et al., 2014). The relative importance of water quality versus water quantity, sanitation and hygiene education interventions for protecting the population's health has been the subject of considerable debate (Esrey et al, 1985, 1991). Nevertheless, there is broad agreement that good water quality, free of pathogens and heavy metals is important to human health. Water is regarded polluted if some components or condition is existing to such a magnitude that the water cannot be used for a particular purpose. Water pollution affects flora and organisms ... • 37. Water Pollution All over the world there are many different traces of water pollution. Water pollution is when there are traces of both biological agents and toxic chemicals. If these agents and chemicals bypass the usual number that is found in the water, it will become a threat. Having these chemicals in the water not only affects the human bodies but it also affects the environment. There are three different types of water pollution. The three different types of pollution are chemical, biological and radiological. Chemical water pollution occurs when workers whose job is to dispose of chemicals do not dispose of them correctly and dumps them into the water. There are eleven common types of chemical related water pollution. The first commonly found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of water pollution is mainly occurring when there is evidence improperly disposed of human and animal wastes and decaying organic materials in the water. Another type of water pollution is Radiological. Radiological water pollution is when radiation levels increases. This is caused by human activities. Although there are many types of water pollution there are many other effects of water pollution on the environment. Polluted water has many effects on the humans, animals and our environment. The majority of highly polluted water is in or around cities and towns across the world. This is because chemicals, garbage, etc. is constantly dumped in our bodies of water, without any thoughts of what the result may be. Places that are mainly known to practice illegal dumping is health centers, manufacturing companies, markets and schools. Pollution in water disrupts the natural habitats. Many animals that live in the various bodies of water end up dying because of the foreign pollutants. Fishes, birds, carbs, dolphins, etc. die and wash up at the seashore as a result. Once the pollutants such as lead and cadmium. The bigger sea animals eat the smaller ones and passes on the pollutants to the other animals. • 41. Water Pollution It was just another normal Saturday out at Herrington Lake. My dad and I had packed up the Suburban with drinks, snacks, fishing poles, bait and tackle, and headed out. For my dad and I ,fishing is a family tradition, a way for me to spend time with him when he wasn't working. So, when we arrived, we sat our stuff down, picked up our fishing poles, and started baiting our lines. We cast our fishing poles out, sat down on the bank, and just waited. Whether it was the time we caught 10 fish in one sitting, or the time I caught a fishing hook in my hand, we just enjoyed getting to do an activity we loved together. Fishing trips, just like ours, are not just a special tradition for my family, but to many families around Kentucky. However, there's one important aspect that you may not be thinking about on your way home, while you're trying to decide how big that fish you "caught" was. Water pollution. About 40 percent of rivers and lakes in the U.S. surveyed by the EPA are too polluted for swimming or fishing.7 Water pollution can threaten human health and the environment. It can be caused by activities such as runoff from agricultural land and even trash that's washed into bodies of water. One descriptor cause of water pollution in Kentucky is runoff from agricultural lands. Kentucky is in the top five nationally for number of farms.1 So, agriculture is very important. • 45. Pollution Water Pollution The data collected and found while in the trip, can determine who polluted the water is. It was concluded that the water quality is good to excellent. The first graph shows the level of nitrates, phosphates and dissolved oxygen in the water. There was an average of 2.5 ppm of nitrate found, 1.7 ppm of phosphates, and 8.7 ppm of dissolved oxygen. Phosphates and nitrates are harmful to the water and can cause algae blooms, which then creates dead zones. These chemicals come from farms mostly, and run down through the soil, into the water. That is why areas with an abundance of agriculture can sometimes negatively affect their nearby water source. The dissolved oxygen level found was also good. Dissolved oxygen is the gaseous form of oxygen found in water. Without it, animals would not be able to survive underwater. Many factors affect how much dissolved oxygen is in the water, such as temperature, the atmosphere, water movement speed, and plant life in the water. The average temperature of the water was about 69 degrees Fahrenheit and about 20.5 degrees Celsius. Cooler water temperature creates more dissolved oxygen. With more dissolved oxygen, it is easier for animals to survive in the water. Another component of the water that was measured, was turbidity. Turbidity is how far down in the water you would be able to see with your naked eye. If water has a high level as turbidity, it would mean that you could see far down, and the water would be clearer. Some ways the animals are harmed are suffocating on plastic bags, getting trapped in bottle holders, or being poisoned by the toxins in some litter. These fish becoming poisoned by the toxins can carry disease and end up on your plate. Local seafood restaurants or grocery stores cannot tell if the fish they serve to you has been affected by the hazardous pollution. The fishermen that catch the fish locally cannot see a difference between the diseased fish and normal ones either so the pollution in the community deposits into the harbor can come right back. The local population also drinks the water that has been filtered and sometimes contains dangerous minerals. This water runs through showers and faucets in homes that people use every day. These reasons all concern the local community and they should because water pollution is a serious problem and if people do not take action immediately than Charleston's water could become a wasteland instead of a fun afternoon. Most people believe that the pollution is too much for them to handle, but there are multiple ways everyone can get involved and help out the community. Water pollution has been an increasing problem for many generations. Pollution has been around for more than a century, but people did not believe that it was a real threat until it became more aggressive over the years. Pollution comes in many forms such as agricultural, runoff, industrial, sedimentary, animal wastes, etc. For example, many industries began using synthetic materials such as plastics, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), inorganic pesticides, and among other substances that many cases lead to contamination water systems. • 57. A Brief Note On Pollution And Water Pollution The Mississippi River is the most polluted river in America, many chemicals such as phosphate and chlorine can be polluted in the water. Precipitation can cause runoff water and can sweep trash and chemicals into the rivers or any nearest water source. This project is concerned about if precipitation has an effect on pollution in the Spoon river. Anybody of water that is contaminated with pollutants, is called Water Pollution. There are two types of water pollution, Nonpoint and Point specific pollution. Nonpoint pollution cannot be found by a specific location and can be caused by runoff water, an example of this pollution is pesticides (Flinn Scientific, 2009). Chemicals and fertilizers can run off into the water supply(Mary Beth Abel Hughes, James Sammons, Scott Eddleman, Pamela J. W. Gore, Daniel P. Murray, Patsy Eldridge, 2007). Water moves over the ground and picks up chemicals and other waste into a body of water (Flinn Scientific, 2009). Pollution that can be pinpointed at a specific place and can be found and reduce the problem of pollution, an example of this pollution is factories, is known as Point Specific Pollution. (Flinn Scientific, 2009). Since Earth is becoming industrialized, water is being used and more waste is thrown into usable water (Flinn Scientific, 2009) About 70% of factories and industries dump waste into usable water(40factsaboutwaterpollution, 2013). In our area, eutrophication and acid rain are the two main pollution problems in our area. Eutrophication can be caused by sewage treatment plants, home sewage systems, and farm fertilizer runoff. Acid rain can be caused by the burning of fossil fuel. Eutrophication causes plants to die and when the plants die, the bacteria from the dead plants use up the oxygen from the water, which causes the fish to die. Photo Credits to Alex Cathers My hypothesis is if the creek has higher levels of phosphates and nitrates, and lower level of dissolved oxygen, then the creek will be polluted. The levels of nitrates and phosphates should be near 0 ppm for the creek to not be considered polluted. The dissolved oxygen levels should be higher if the creek is healthy. Dissolved oxygen is essentially the amount of oxygen in the water. For the acid rain test, we put a solution on different rocks to see if the acid dissolved the rocks. The nitrate and phosphate test involved getting a specific amount of creek water, putting different solutions in the water, and matching the solutions with other vials to determine the state of the water.Photo Credits to Alex Cathers There were 487 macroinvertebrates that were found in total at the creek. 308 were pollution sensitive, 101 were somewhat pollution tolerant, and 78 were pollution tolerant. Water pollution can cause so much damage to people and to the animals that live in that body of water. The laws that we have are doing what they need to but we need to monitor the water more closely because if we don't catch the pollution when it happens it could cause a big disaster. It could kill all of the plant life that lives in the water and the animals that live there to. Some of the pollutions that occur are very hard to clean up and things might never be the same that it was. To clean something up it takes a lot of hours and a lot of man power to get this mess taken care of. Water pollution could be the cause of some animals being ... You can't blame all of this on the farmers. This could happen by anyone. Car exhaust can create things like this to happen to the algae plants. Everyone who drives a car can or could be the cause foe this happening. An oil spill occurs and as soon as people find out about it they point fingers at the oil company, but really some of the pollution is caused by them. Many of the causes of pollution are from sewage and fertilizers containing nutrients such as nitrates and phosphates. The nutrients over stimulate the growth of aquatic plants and algae. Excessive growths of these plants clog our waterways, and they block the light to the deeper parts of the water. With this it would be harmful to aquatic organisms as if affects the respiration ability of fish and other invertebrates that live in the water. The Importance Of Water Pollution Water pollution is a serious environmental issue worldwide. 1 Water is one of the most valuable resources on our planet; having clean water is vitally important for our survival. Here in the United States, the Clean Water Act of 1972 was very successful in reducing point sources of water pollution; however, it has been ineffective in reducing nonpoint sources of water pollution (Manuel, 2014). Nitrogen and phosphorous that originate from agricultural sources, such as manure and inorganic fertilizer, are contributing to nonpoint source pollution of our waterways. Also referred to as nutrient pollution, this issue is created by the runoff of excess nutrients into waterways and the effects of this can reach hundreds or even thousands of miles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leads to a great amount of oxygen in the water being consumed by the algae as it decomposes, potentially leading to hypoxia, or dead zones, which can kill nearly all aquatic organisms (Manuel, 2014). An example of this is in the Gulf of Mexico at the mouth of the Mississippi River, with a dead zone of nearly 5500 square miles (Manuel, 2014). HAB's can also impair bodies of water that serve as a source of drinking water, such as in Toledo, Ohio, where residents were faced with not having a safe source of water (Manuel, 2014). According to the USDA (2015), this sort of problem is widespread. Nutrient pollution can also be seen due to accidental leakages of manure, with many reported instances locally. In a recent occurrence of this, manure leaked from a broken pipeline into a nearby stream, ending up in a nearby lake, potentially polluting groundwater and lake water, both local sources of drinking water. There are many threats to human health from HAB's, including: 2 stomach cramps, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, fever, headache, skin irritation, muscle and joint pain, blisters of the mouth, and liver damage (Manuel, 2014). If the toxins become airborne, respiratory illnesses have also been reported (EPA, 2015). At Grand Lake St. Marys, Ohio, which is a source of drinking water, it was reported that there were 23 cases of human illnesses and dog deaths due to HAB's in 2011 (EPA, 2015). An estimated 850 billion gallons of untreated storm and sewage water are released into our waterways each year. Given that our grey water infrastructures are unable to handle the volume of water entering their systems, a sustainable, eco–friendly solution is needed. A constructed wetland is a type of green infrastructure that can help to solve this problem of CSO. The cost of constructing this green infrastructure is less than that of traditional grey infrastructure. Advantages of the constructed wetland goes beyond improved water quality, to include lower operational costs, an added recreational area, increased habitat which could lead to greater diversity of wildlife. • 85. Water Pollution Essay Heavy pollution can be found all across China, though it is more concentrated in the east than anywhere else. But where does all of this pollution come from? Many people would assume that it is generated only urban or industrial areas(This is also true for air pollution); however, farmers play a big role in polluting the water. With a fast–growing population and economy farmers are required to produce more crops every year. This has led them into using organochlorine pesticides which was heavily used in the 1950s to the 1970s to control agricultural and get rid of mosquitoes. According to Farmers continue to use harmful chemicals such as polychlorinated biphenyls which is used for lubrication on farming equipment such as tractors, air compressors, pumps, and other agricultural machinery however it was later found to be harmful to the environment and cause cancer to animals (ATSDR). The list continues on with polybrominated diphenyl ethers which is a flame retardant, polychlorinated dibenzo–p–dioxins which is used as a herbicide, and ammonium perfluorooctanoate which is a pesticide. With all of these chemicals in the water it puts China at one of the highest polluted countries on earth. Due to the high amount of pollution in the water it makes China's water resources very limited as it has been quoted that only 20–25% of China's water is actually consumable or usable for agriculture/industrial use. Water pollution is one of the world's largest problems that we are facing today. Everyone in this world is affect by the earth's water. Some are affected differently than others but we are still affected in one way or another. Water pollution doesn't only threaten humans; it threatens plants and animals as well as sea creatures. Hazardous dumping of toxins and other dangerous materials is one of the most serious problems of sea pollution. Pollution of the sea can kill human beings as well as the animals. This paper will analyze the cause / detection of sea pollution, what methods are used in measuring sea pollution, the areas that are most affected, some of the most recent and current water pollution activities, and the ways that water pollution can possibly be eliminated. II. Background Information There are many different types of water pollution. These types of pollutants in the rivers and lakes will kill the fishes and other sea animals. Some types of pollution are Runoffs, Oil pollution, Sewage, and Organic. Sea pollution is not bad for everyone; the water companies make more money when there is more pollution in the water. • 93. The Air Pollution And The Water Pollution Cancer– it is one of those words that people whisper in hush tones behind closed doors. It's the type of word that brings nothing but heartbreak. The second the words "you have cancer" are said, the clock starts ticking away at the time you have left louder than an airhorn. Cancer uncovers the fighters that have been hidden away. It is one of the worst battles to fight, because ultimately it is already a battle lost. In 2012, 14.1 million people were diagnosed with cancer. In that same year 8.2 million people died from it. There is predicted to be 23.6 million people diagnosed with cancer each year by 2030. (CancerResearchUK) However, some countries suffer more than others. China alone is responsible for 22% of new cancer cases and almost 27% of global cancer deaths (CancerStatisticsinChina). Why is cancer such an issue here? Outside of genetics, this is largely due to the country's polluted environments, specifically the air pollution and the water pollution. China began seeing an increase in cancer a few decades ago when their industrial movement began. Pollution from the factories seem to be the leading cause of cancer in the Chinese population. This is a major socioeconomic issue because in order to clean the environment, factories would be forced to close or relocate. Initially, the Chinese government denied that cancer was a byproduct of pollution. Although recently they were forced to acknowledge its effect and has since been making an effort to clean their ... • 97. Water Pollution There are many forms of pollution throughout the United States, but one of the major sections of pollution is in our water ways. Having pollution throughout our water causes many problems not only for the environments within the water, and the environments outside of it as well. One of the major concerns when it comes to pollution is that people do not seem to care as much as they should. They don't view it as a big problem, when in reality, it is one of the biggest problems facing the world today. One of the biggest ways that the water in the United States is getting polluted is from all of the technological advances pertaining to agriculture. Many agriculture practices are being used to produce more food for people, in the country, at lower prices. While mass production of crops might be good for humans financially, it is taking a toll on the environment. Much of the pollution that is created by agriculture is known to cause dead zones. A dead zone is created when there is too much fertilizer in the water and algae starts to grow abundantly. After the algae dies it then proceeds to take all of the oxygen from the water leaving virtually none for the other organisms. According to Poisoned water, dead zones are doubling in frequency and size every 10 years. One thing that has been done to help regulate the amount of pollution coming from agricultural, was the clean water act. It degrades natural resources, threatens economic prosperity and poses health and safety risks to communities. Stormwater pollution is the result of urban and industrial runoff getting washed into the storm drains, seriously affecting all of our nation's water sources. Federal regulations and pollution prevention measures can significantly influence the quality of our water, our environment and our health. Introduction Stormwater pollution is a significant environmental and public health issue. Stormwater pollution has substantial impacts on water quality, posing risks to the health and safety of residential communities while degrading natural resources and threatening economical revenues. Stormwater pollution is created when trash, waste and other contaminants are washed into storm drains. When mixed with rainwater, this toxic mixture flows untreated into local creeks, rivers and the ocean, polluting waterways and damaging natural resources. This paper will analyze various historical and regulatory aspects of water quality, discuss some of the major sources of stormwater pollution and look at the various ways stormwater pollution prevention techniques can be implemented to improve the quality of our water. Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds. [edit] Groundwater pollution See also: Hydrogeology Interactions between groundwater and surface water are complex. Consequently, groundwater pollution, sometimes referred to as groundwater contamination, is not as easily classified as surface water pollution.[7] By its very nature, groundwater aquifers are susceptible to contamination from sources that may not directly affect surface water bodies, and the distinction of point vs. non–point source may be irrelevant. A spill or ongoing releases of chemical or radionuclide contaminants into soil (located away from a surface water body) may not create point source or non–point source pollution, but can contaminate the aquifer below, defined as a toxin plume. The movement of the plume, a plume front, can be part of a Hydrological transport model or Groundwater model. Analysis of groundwater contamination may focus on the soil characteristics and site geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, and the nature of the contaminants. [edit] Causes of water pollution The specific contaminants leading to pollution in water include a wide spectrum of chemicals, pathogens, and physical or sensory changes such as elevated temperature and discoloration. While many of the chemicals and substances that are regulated may be naturally occurring (calcium, sodium, iron, manganese, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 122. Water And Water Pollution Water is an essential to human life, our body uses water for hydration and various functions. For example, metabolism, digestion, and elimination of waste. Dehydration causes our bodies to feel tired and weak which is why we need about 20 liters of fresh water a day to survive. Water gives our bodies plenty of benefits for example: cleanses the skin, keeps joints lubricated, removes toxins, etc. Drinking plenty of water will reduce the amount of headaches you get and it will severely boost your immune system. If you want to keep your weight steady and healthy, water will sure do the job at helping with that. Since our brains are seventy–five percent water, drinking it will help you focus, think, concentrate, and be much more alert. Water needs to be treated carefully so that it can be safe to drink. Groundwater contamination is more difficult to identify as surface water pollution. When pollutants get released into the ground and make their way into the water, then that water will be polluted and dangerous to consume. Pollutants can be spread over large areas when the water moves around. Water pollution can occur in many ways such as: on–site sanitation systems, landfills, leaking sewers, etc. Poisoning or spread of disease is sure to occur when polluted groundwater has entered the body. Some contaminants found in groundwater are inorganic chemicals, bacteriological, and radioactive parameters. Sewage waste water that goes into crops can also be a source of infection. ... • 126. Water Pollution "Without water, life would not exist." This is a quote taken from Water.org. However, it needs a little clarification, Without clean water, life will not exist for long. There are many countries today that do not have access to clean water. This necessity we the people of the United States of America take for granted is not a normal occurrence in every country. With this paper we will look at five different countries with the most polluted water in the world. We will see what is being done to help reduce the water pollution and how the water pollution is effecting the economy is these countries. The first country on the list is China. More specifically Linfen, China. In 2007 Linfen was dubbed by Time Magazine the most polluted city in the world. The air was so dirty from all the coal mining that it would turn the laundry drying on the line black from all of the coal dust. The residents literally choke at night dues to the coal dust. Every resident over 60 dies from lung disease. (Schmitt) It is also estimated that over half of Linfen's well water is considered unsafe to drink. (motherboard) Clean water is a necessity for a thriving economy. Much of the pollution in Linfen is found in the smog that is in the air, however, it is in the water as well. To live in Linfen and know that if you live to 60 you will probably die from lung disease soon after. Although, Linfen is trying to improve their lifestyle with recycling and trash cleanup they simply will not stop the coal mining business. Which in all fairness is understandable since coal mining is the heartbeat of the economy for Linfen. However, there should be more research into purifying their water and lowering the coal dust, but all in all things are looking up for Linfen. The residents are optimistic that they can reduce the pollution and they can have a thriving economy too. The next place we look at is Haina, Dominican Republic. Haina has a problem with battery recycling and smelting which has resulted in huge concentration of lead being pumped into their water. (science/nature) Lead poisoning is a huge problem. Unlike some poisons that may wears off a little with time lead stays in the body and builds up until eventually the person drops dead. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 130. Water And Water Pollution When a person is asked what water is, the first things that they say are; water is drinkable, used for showers, simple, washing, etc.. But people don't really know how complex and important water is for our kind. Water is one of the most precious things we humans have, but we don't realize it and we damage it without caring for the consequences. Water and water pollution are two things that we should all have in mind. Even though we see water as just a liquid, but there's more to it than its form or state. One of the most common descriptions for water is that it is transparent and nearly colorless. The truth is that the chemistry of water shows us what this liquid is in a molecular level. Water is made up of two Hydrogen atoms (H+), and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Water is a substance that is constituent of earth's streams, lakes, and oceans. But water is also present in the atmosphere. As mentioned before there's water located in the atmosphere. Nearly all of the water is located in the lowest layer of the atmosphere also known as the troposphere. We cannot feel or see this this water because "it is present in variable amounts in the atmosphere, from 0% to 4%" ("Water in the Atmosphere"). This is the main reason why we cannot see nor feel the water in the atmosphere. If we think about it there almost no water in the atmosphere because earth is huge and 4% of water spread all around the world is a little bit. When we talk about how water is being polluted we just justify ourselves saying that there is a lot of water in this world and that a little bit of it getting damaged doesn't matter at all. To understand the consequences of water pollution we first have to know what water pollution is and how it happens. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies like lakes, rivers and oceans. This form of environmental degradation occurs "when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds" ("Wikipedia"). Chemical waste from factories is sometimes dumped into rivers and lakes. These chemical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Problem Of Water Pollution Sad Waters The world we live in is has many problems that cause a lot of bad, with many ongoing issues that have been occurring for so many years and now today. Every day there are daily routines that affect the life of humans and the life of other living organisms. The earth is a valuable and fragile place that can only do its best to care for itself. Water is essential to life as we know it. If people use it, trash it and do not care for it, then this place that is a home to many will soon die. Water is polluted every day. Water pollution has been a big issue that has been a world–wide problem. The current water pollution is worse than it had been a few years ago, this problem continues to grow. People must act upon it before it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of this inappropriate contamination, of used water, and horrible discharge of the different and numerous waste water in the water sources, that are barely there, consist in bad result of water pollution. In the majority of cases, the water is filled with dangerous chemicals and radioactive materials that will hurt the public and any other living organisms. Water pollution can be identified in numerous ways and be talked about in how they cause a certain place or situation but it will still be all similar. Though water can naturally clean and better some problems, pollution is still bad enough and hurts more than a few aspects water itself cannot handle. Prohibiting not only industrial pollution but agricultural pollution would change everything and the life people live. When it comes to agricultural pollution, the interests of farmers, environmentalists, and consumers may have diverged to a large degree when focusing exclusively on agricultural water pollution. They are the main reasons why this issue exists and so continuously occurs. Though there are more than a few reasons for why this type of pollution is a big problem, like a person throwing their drink bottles or cups, chip bags, trash bags, leftover plastics and other toxic disposals onto the floor which will soon enough eventually find their way into ... • 138. Water Pollution More than two–thirds of the Earth's surface is covered in water and, as global population continues to grow, so does the pressure placed on water and the resources it contains. This pressure has caused many devastating issues to the ecosystems of large bodies of waters, where the evidence of human interference can be found in every square centimeter. Perhaps the most local example of these treacherous impacts can be found within the waters of the Lake of the Ozarks. Water pollution at the lake creates hazards for both the aquatic wildlife and tourists visiting the area. E. coli, a common bacteria found in the waters, has caused hundreds of deaths globally due to the illness it causes and poses a great risk to the high volumes of tourists that the area attracts each year. In addition to the human risk, the waste and runoff from storms and developing infrastructure have the potential to harm, and even kill, the organisms living in and around the area. The Lake of the Ozarks is a manmade, freshwater ecosystem which contains both biotic and abiotic components. The diverse ecosystem is inhabited by insects, fish, algae, and amphibians, such as snakes and frogs. It is also impacted by abiotic components such as soil quality and variety, temperature, and exposure to sunlight. This fragile balance is constantly threatened by many factors, the most detrimental of which is caused by the humans living in the area. Many residents living on or near the Lake of the Ozarks utilize septic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 142. Water And Water Pollution When we think about water pollution what comes to mind? have we ever thought about how water pollution affects plants and human life? In this essay i'll talk about in what ways water pollution affects these topics today. Over two thirds of Earth's surface is covered by water less than a third is taken up by land so the condition of the water and how we keep it is pretty important. All living organisms need water to survive on this earth but what happens if the water is no longer clean or usable? First things first what even is water pollution and how does it affect you. Well you see you drink it you bathe in it the plants and animals you eat consume it. Not to mention the weather around you is effected by it so it affects you in every way. Okay let's focus on how it can affect plants and ecosystems around us. Water pollution that alters a plant's surrounding pH level, such as acid rain, can harm or kill the plant. Acid rain forms because of atmospheric sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, which can happen with volcanic activity, burning fossil fuels as well as exhaust from buses, trucks and cars. These compounds interact with common atmospheric chemicals, such as hydrogen and oxygen, to form sulfuric and nitric acids in the air. These acids return to earth through precipitation, such as rain or snow. Once acid rain reaches the ground, it flows into waterways that carry its acidic compounds into bodies of water. Acid rain that collects in aquatic environments lowers water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Water Pollution Is The Contamination Of Water The topic for this final paper is water pollution, water pollution is the contamination of natural water bodies that contain many hazardous chemicals that can affect human health. This can have devastating consequences in the lower poorer countries around the world where there is no way for the people there to have access to fresh ,and clean water. That 's why in this final essay it explains to the reader all of the hazardous ways you or your family could and even may be at risk for water pollution wherever you go around the world whether it has a unfiltered river system, or it has a proper filtration system and it somewhat fails and the people that work there does inform the public of the imminent dangers of all the unfiltered and unprocessed drinking or everyday use water. That is why this essay provides the reader an example of how Water Pollution can affect everyone globally, and how there are many health issues that goes with that issue , and how it can impact any country 's economic status. For my first paragraph Water Pollution is a harmful thing if not careful, such as, " Water Pollution is the contamination of natural water bodies by contamination of natural water bodies by chemical, physical, radioactive, or pathogenic microbial substances"( C. Michael Hogan, PG:2 pg3/6).In this quote the author of this article is telling the audience that in the polluted waters in any river there could be any of these substances in the water that can possibly cause a very harmful ... Water Pollution Effects of Water Pollutants on Different Parameters: Effect of water pollutants on different parameters most commonly associated with water quality are: (i) Colour (ii) Taste and odour (iii) Hardness (iv) pH (i) Colour: As the colourless pure water travels through nature, it becomes coloured by various impurities. The tannins, humic acid etc. present in the organic debris water is aesthetically unacceptable and unsuitable for bathing, laundering, beverage manufacturing, food pro¬cessing etc. (ii) Taste and Odour: The causative agents that impart perceptible taste and odour to water include minerals, metals, soil salts, iron, manganese, phenols, free chlorine, unsaturated hydrocarbons, hydro¬gen sulphide and end products from biological reactions. Water tastes bitter when contaminated with alkaline impurities and salty when the impurities are metallic salts. Biological decomposition of organic debris impart a characteristic taste and odour of rotten eggs which is mainly due to hydrogen sulphide. Growth of algae, micro–organisms, hydrogen sulphide and ammonia give an obnoxious odour to water making if unfit for use. The unpleasant taste and odour is aesthetically unacceptable even though it may not pose any serious threat to health. (iii) Hardness: Hardness is the property of water on account of which it consumes soap without form–ing lather freely. Multivalent metallic cations, (Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, Manganese, Strontium, Aluminium) in solution contribute to hardness in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 154. The Pros And Cons Of Water Pollution In accordance with the ethics of Bentham in the line of utilitarianism, my moral argument against water pollution is thus: 1 Right actions are those that result in the most beneficial balance of good over bad consequences. 2 The Great Lakes water pollution's bad consequences outweighs its good consequences. 3 Therefore, pollution is not a right action. Water pollution is defined as "a change in the chemical, physical and biological health of a waterway due to human activity" (1). Over the past 50 years, pollution in the Great Lakes has been a rising concern. Pollution in the Great Lakes includes the disposal of sewage, heavy metals, invasive species, and pesticides that come from factory dumping, runoff of agriculture, nautical transportation, and air pollution. According to an article published by the US Department of Commerce, roughly 40 million people depend on the Great Lakes for drinking water, sport, power (electricity), and transportation (McCartney). The negative consequences of water pollution include, but are not limited to, the killing off of vital organisms, an increase in birth defects, infertility, malfunctioning nervous systems, and learning disabilities (McCartney). The pros of water pollution in the Great Lakes can be boiled down to the single idea that we can continue living on the way we currently are. We get foods that are preserved well and in abundance because of pesticides used in agriculture, even though they don't have to take into consideration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
