Catholic Church Observation
I attended the Body of Christ (BOC) church service in Oakland Park, Florida run by people from the
Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. The service was similar in many ways
to traditional interdenominational or non–denominational church services. The service started at
10:30 am and was competed by 12:00 noon. What was particularly nice was after the service all
attendees were invited to attend pot luck lunch that is provided every week. The service started
promptly at 10:30 am. Several songs of contemporary music were played and sang by the worship
team and congregation. They also sang two songs that were from the old very traditional church
worship at the end one was the Old Rugged Cross and the other Amazing Grace. I was raised
Catholic and have attended many different denominations throughout my lifetime. I have for the
past 10 years attended an Evangelical Presbyterian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They recently had celebrated their 20 year anniversary. They still had banners on the wall from the
celebration when I attended. I had taken the time to interview some of the members and pastor after
the service. The original founder was a young man who had completed the Southern Baptist
seminary. Upon completing his degree and ordination he came out to his family and church that he
was gay. During that time he had a difficult time, as the Southern Baptist Church, took a hard line
against his being a homosexual. He left the Baptist church and moved to South Florida from
Arkansas. He discovered that he still loved God and wanted to do ministry. He particularly felt
called to work for and in the Gay community. He started the BOC church primarily for the Gay
community. His parents who were also staunch Southern Baptist decided their love of God and their
child was more important than their church legalism. His vision was a place where regardless of
sexual orientation all people would be welcome and

Local Church Formal System Of Power And Authority
Organizations, including church congregations, are unique in its context and understanding of how
to function as an organization. One thing not so unique is the system of power and authority. Each
congregation has a set structure of how the organization will operate and distribute power and
authority. Surprising to some, there also is an informal system of power and authority that often
carries more control than the written plan. The nearly 170–year–old Coalbush United Methodist
Church has both an informal and formal organizational structural system.
The local church formal system has a very structured system that is designed by the Book of
Discipline: the procedural guidelines of the United Methodist Church. The guideline for ordering the
church provides a formation of checks and balances between the laity and clergy. The pastor has a
voice on every committee, but no vote with the exception of the committee that nominates persons
to serve on every committee of the congregation. Each church must have a board of trustees, finance
team, a personnel committee, and an administrative council. The administrative council is the
central deciding board of the church consisting of chairperson from every committee of the church
and a few at large members.
I was appointed to Coalbush beginning July 1, 2016. I have been observing and serving as I attempt
to discover the unique context and setting for this local church in this season of its very long history.

Worship Quest: An Exploration Of Worship Leadership
Until now, I've never realized the value a job title holds when deciphering between occupations that
are similar, yet possess different expectations. When I initially began researching the question,
"What is a worship pastor?" it was hard for me to distinguish between a worship pastor and a
worship leader. In my own church, I've always heard the term worship leader used to describe the
role of someone who prepares and leads the music for the weekly services. When I first heard the
term worship pastor used during our classroom discussions, it became evident to me that these two
occupations in the church play a pivotal, but different role. During my research, it became apparent
that a worship pastor is deeply rooted in the congregation. According to Kristi Winkler, worship
pastors minister within the church by leading others in worship, and also mentor, counsel, and pastor
members of the worship team. Even if they never preach a sermon, a worship pastor will typically
have the pastor–like responsibility to lead and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is an honor to lead God's people in worship and leaders of worship must be faithful in what God
desires them to do. Steven Brooks, author of Worship Quest: An Exploration of Worship Leadership,
has said, "The primary question to be asked by those being called to worship leadership should be:
Which worship leadership role–Worship Leader, Song Leader, Worship Artist, or Worship Pastor–is
God calling me to fulfill?" Each of these roles is a specific worship leadership role of which God
calls people. Understanding God's call is of vital importance in order to successfully fulfill that call
(Brooks, 106.) As people who God chose to give musical ability to, it is our job to use discernment
to establish what he has called us to do with our talents, and how we can use our talents to draw
people in to his

BY KIANAN SMITH LYNCHBURG, VA JUNE 2014 Name: Kianan Smith Book Report # Spring
2014 Semester Hungry for Worship by: Frank S. Page and L. Lavon Gray Chapter 1: Summary: In
this text, Hungry for Worship, authors Frank Page and L. Gray write about the hunger for
worshipping God that all leaders should possess. In chapter 1, both authors begin the text with the
concept of how the body has fallen in love with the method of worship and not the actual act of
being in the Presence of God. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They give examples from C.S. Lewis when discussing this subject. They quote Lewis with the term
"Chronological snobbery". This term means that while older generations only find value in the
traditions and heritage of our faith, the younger generations only find relevance in what is current.
They also write this type of separation between the young and old has effectively begun
dismembering the body of Christ limb by limb. The authors also put focus on the act of individual
preferences through church shopping. This according to Page and Gray, result in the encouraging of
churches to offer consumer–driven programming in order to keep members on their rolls. They give
scripture which identifies the importance of unity. Ephesians 4:14–16 shows how the body of Christ
should be unified in the midst of diversity. Leaders should work extra hard to keep the church family
worshipping together. The authors condemn chronological snobbery and suggest that both the young
and old come together. The young generation must grow up and the older generation needs to adapt.
Analysis: The authors point out a huge problem that is alive and well in the church. Due to personal
preferences, the church has separated itself from one another. Not only are different cultures
separate but the age differences within the church are separated amongst themselves. The leaders of
worship within the church whether they are pastors or worship band leaders must not

A Worship Service At The Unitarian Church Of Harrisburg,...
On April 3rd, 2016 I attend a worship service at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania;
the Clover lane branch. Reverend Michael Walker is the interim minister that led the service. Upon
arrival the parking lot was filled with higher class vehicles, along with some hybrid and eco–cars.
When entering the sanctuary the congregation was mostly white in race and mostly male in gender.
The congregation acted to be of higher class or wealthy. The main colors with in the sanctuary were
blue and grey with a very open floor plan. The congregation sits to face the stage with a giant wall
of glass panel windows that give an amazing view of the outdoors. There is a back drop where the
minister stands that seems to be made out of cinder blocks but was very modern and geometrical in
pattern. There was a front table on the stage that had fresh flowers, a set of human figurines and a
fire torch. The building inside has very sharp linear architecture and was very modern overall. The
ceremonial clothing was not casual for the congregation, but a little more formal. Men wore suits
with or without their jackets and ties and bowties. The women wore dress or skirts and a few had
pants on. The women were dressed conservatively and the children wore similar things to what their
parents were wearing. The minister wore a navy suit with a grey shirt and a navy tie. He also wore a
shawl over his shoulders that was yellow with a blue and grey design. Before the service started a

Personally, I did not go into this part of the service with a good attitude because of the glow–in–the–
dark theme service. I did not see how this would aid my worship or improve it by any means, but I
still decided to go of course. The pastor was very inviting in the welcome and then showed a
worship video. I liked this video on worship because it helped get my mind in the right mindset that
I needed to be in for worship. Then the worship band came up and began the service very smooth.
There were a lot of lights directed at the band, and as we began worship it reminded me of what the
beginning of a concert would look like. In class we talked about how we do not worship to be a
show, but an acceptance of the invitation God has given us to worship Him. While worship began,
the thought of this conversation popped in my head as the lights started to flash transitioning into the
next song. As worship progressed, we continued singing more and more upbeat songs that were
mostly about the Spirit, and people started to respond more and more emotionally. I was able to
personally worship as freely as I wanted to, but the lights again started to actually distract me from
truly worshipping. It was very moving though to see people responding to the Holy Spirit by
kneeling, praying, and raising hands. The worship leader was also very expressive of his emotions
during the service. This occurrence also made me think

The Spiritual Discipline Of Worship
Introduction
The spiritual discipline that I have chosen is worship. When I think of the term 'worship' my initial
response is singing to God but throughout this course I have learnt that although singing is one
important aspect of worship, that it is so much more than just that. Worship is to "honour and adore
the Trinity as the supreme treasure of life." Worship is offering your whole self to God. Worship is a
choice and a way of life.
Summarise your original understanding of the discipline before the course started
Before I began studying the discipline of worship I understood worship as singing to God. I believed
that it was something that came naturally to every believer, that it was something that you just did
when you were a Christian. To think of worship as a discipline was a bit of a struggle for me. I
understood worship to be lifting God up with your voice either in church meetings or in your quiet
time at home and only had a basic understanding of what living a lifestyle of worship looked like.
A Significant Christian figure in history who has contributed to this discipline
The significant Christian figure that I would like to focus on is William Booth. William was born in
England, gave his life to Jesus at the age of 15 and "is best known today as founder and first general
of the Salvation Army". William had a passion for music and a niche for using secular songs to
reach the lost, although he was often criticized by others for doing so. He contributed

Essay On My Farm House
During some of my early farm–boy life, I attended some wonderful churches in Edmonton and
Metcalfe County. The church nearest our farm home was the one–room Good Hope Baptist Church,
which was located alongside the gravel–surfaced Knob Lick Road about three miles from
Edmonton.
As a youngster, my attendance was usually limited to those infrequent and short periods of time
when the church had a pastor and during occasional revival services. My Mom and I would walk
together from our tenant farm to the church attend the worship services as well as an occasional
'dinner on the grounds.' Dad did go to the church grounds on some occasions, but often remained
outside the church with a few other men during the church services. All of the men; ... Show more

He always remained seated in silence and looked straight ahead. I have often wondered if he ever
accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in later years.
Dinner on the grounds was an event usually held after morning church services. A very l–o–n–g
table was set up in an L configuration. It was assembled with rough sawn planks laid on a series of
saw horses and covered with bed sheets used as tablecloths.
Each family brought one or more items of food, which varied from event to event, but would always
result in delicious meals consisting of some of the following: cornbread, biscuits, fried chicken,
ham, chicken and dumplings, several varieties of beans, potatoes prepared in a variety of ways,
cabbage, fried apples, radishes, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, slaw, onions, squash, chocolate, apple,
butterscotch and rhubarb pie, chocolate cake, caramel cake with hickory nuts on its icing, blackberry
cobbler, iced tea, coffee, lemonade, Kool–Aid, watermelon, muskmelon, and other goodies. Now
you know why it was a l–o–n–g table.
Another childhood experience with a church involved a Presbyterian pastor who drove out into the
country and picked up myself and other youngsters, then drove us to his church in Edmonton. There
we were joined with youngsters who lived in town and we all participated in the church's youth
events. Afterward, the pastor would drive us back to our homes. Those were very enjoyable
occasions, but

Reflection On The Order Of Worship In The Church
Reflecting upon the readings of Torrance's Worship, Community, and the Triune God of Grace and
White's Introduction to Christian Worship will deeply shape how I look at worship in the churches I
now order worship for the congregations. I used one of the churches in which I serve to do the Order
of Worship assignment. It is a blue collar, small membership church located in a rural, retirement/
vacation area of North Carolina, Lake Gaston. It is also predominately Caucasian. Torrance's focus
is on trinitarian worship, participating in Christ's communion with God, the Father and Christ's life,
death, and resurrection through the power of the Holy Spirit. And White's focus is to look at how the
forms used in worship give worship its meaning. These forms include but are not exclusive of, time,
space, music and art. There are implications for both focuses in the order of worship for the
congregation used for my order of worship. Torrance focuses on the understanding of trinitarian
worship. Trinitarian worship is the participation in Christ's communion with the Father through the
Holy Spirit, in Christ's vicarious life, death, resurrection and Christ's intercession for humanity.
Torrance's view of trinitarian worship is supporting and encouraging of the doctrines of the Trinity,
of God, of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and others which build upon these base doctrines. Torrance
sees other forms of worship such as unitarian worship as being unsupportive and destructive of the

My Experience At A Baptist Church
In my second field experience, I'd decided to go to a Baptist church. However, I did not come from a
religious background. Although I am not completely in the dark when it comes to religion I have
learn about different religion through friends and books. Therefore, I thought this would be a great
opportunity to finally experience a service and put my ignorance aside. Meaning the assumption and
expectation I had of church service. Furthermore, it provided me the opportunity to challenge myself
and my own biases I have towards going to church. Once I went to church I was surprise to see so
many black people, for the first time since I moved too Greensburg, I was actual able to see a room
overflowing with individual who looked just like me, my first emotion was excitement and enjoy.
Some of my expectation, was something I have learned from my mother. My mother always told me
that "black people churches last longer", with this in mind I was prepare to be there for a long time.
However, to my surprise it did not last as long as I'd expected it to. My overall experience, was
warming, peaceful and positive.
Some of the connection I'd experience during the service was when the pastor was talking about
having hope and sticking by someone who have continuous mistreated you. A wave of confusion
struck me, I was unaware at the time that it was anger and pain that connected to my past
experiences with others who I have devoted my time to, whom happen to mistreated me. Therefore,

Personal Statement Of The Organization
Description of the Organization I studied a traditional, conservative Seventh–day Adventist church
that has approximately 200 members. It is a Filipino–American church that's mission and vision is
"to emphasize that every member develop a daily personal devotional live...to provide, through
corporate worship, an uplifting, inspiring experience...to mentor and provide training for
leadership...to enable all members to engage in active involvement...to establish a communication
network which will recruit students with a Filipino heritage...and to reach out with the love of Jesus

He has an incredibly close, personal touch, yet, at the same time is naturally more quiet and
withdrawing.
Analysis of Leadership Dynamics Pastor X's leadership theory is clearly a bottom–up approach; he
avoids wrangling the conversation unfairly to his perspective, instead, he identifies himself as a
component of the process, not the process itself. This instills in the members a trust in him that is
remarkably deep. He also tends to seek out members for services that they provide (i.e. medical) in
order that he can relate to them on a personal while simultaneously on a spiritual level.
As I pointed out above, he empowers his members by giving them opportunities and allowing them
to experiment, with the promise that he will be there to provide support if problems explode.
However, this model allows problems to be resolved quickly and quietly and not spiral rapidly out
of control. He averts empowering the members in the way of resources–what I am alluding to is that
he is willing to acquire resources when needed, yet avoids seeking them out himself. He feels that it
is best for individual leaders of departments to determine these decisions.
His relationship with the church is uncommonly positive, in spite of a few differences. For example,
during one nominating committee it was determined by the Filipino delegation, which is the vast
majority of the church, that the number Caucasians and African–Americans who held leadership
positions was rife and

The parents, adults and candidates who can respond all respond to God?s grace and initiative. For
the infants that are unable to respond, the godparents respond on their behalf with the hope that the
children will take on that responsibility when they get older.
The contents in Common Worship also affirms that as the church recognises those that have been
called by God, and as the church welcomes them into the Christian community, those that are
already part of the Christian community are inspired to renew their commitment to the mission of
the church of God. Thus affirming that the covenant is God given to infants and adults and the
obligation it gives is gradually unfolded.
Common Worship also emphasises the ?social aspect? of baptism and not just the individual aspect
of baptism. This is done by an active participation of the gathered congregation in the liturgy thus
enabling the congregation to reflect on their role as God?s holy people, prompted to renew their
understanding of why they are gathered. The increased participation of the congregation helps to
affirm and symbolise that the baptism of the individual is for the whole church and not just for the
individual.
Common Worship also has in its liturgy, rites that emphasis the catechumenal process because it
makes the stages on the way and it gives the church community the chance of appropriating them.
The theological framework in Common Worship emphasises the reception into the ecumenical

was ordained, because I'm still new, I know that these are my class mates, and we don't really get in

were about 6 people involved in the service, there were 3 musicians a 3 people that read different
part of the service. It was a beautiful call and response type of service, which I thought was
interesting. I want to say that the on participant is the one who runs our chapel service. They were

did a great job know the less. With the call and response portion they knew when to their part, came
in on time and there was no confusion about what to do in this service. I have been to a few of these
chapel services and I know these partakers were never caught off guard. It was a different type of
service than I'm use to so I found it to be a refreshing change of pace. The great thing about this

First off, the evening started off with a dinner and an Easter egg hunt for the kids. While eating

Grand Rapids First Church Center Of The Church
On Sunday, May 14th 2017 at 9:00am, I attended a worship service at Grand Rapids First Church.
Grand Rapids First Church's auditorium seats about 3000 people. The interior space of the church is
circular with the podium somewhat in the center. I believe that this places God at the center of the
church. Additionally, there are crucifixes on walls throughout the church. These crucifixes serve as
anamnesis of Christ's death and resurrection. Furthermore, there is a huge crucifix right in front of
the main entrance of the auditorium; in my opinion, this helps believers to shift their focus [from the
world] to Jesus as they enter God's presence. The sanctuary, with the crucifixes, serve as a
beachhead of holiness in space.

Grand Rapids first is an Assemblies of God church. As a result, its theology is closely related to that
of the pentecostal denomination. Also, the worshippers varied from toddlers to the elderly. Because
of this context, worship was very diverse. The worship team sang songs that were familiar to both
the youth and to the elderly. Also, the words of the songs were projected on a screen for people who
were not conversant with the songs. Additionally, Pastor Sam preached in a way that was applicable
to both the old and young. During his preaching, he gave quality examples that resonated with
everyone's life, no matter the age difference.
An example of cross–cultural sharing I appreciated was the use of contemporary Christian songs.
Back at home, in Ghana, I attend a nondenominational, charismatic church. At my home church, we
sing lots of foreign gospel music; Hillsong, Bethel music, Chris Tomlin to mention but a few, are
artists whose music are frequently used during the church's worship service. As such, it was nice to
hear familiar songs when worshiping with Grand Rapids First church. It made me more comfortable
and I was able to experience both the expressive and formative aspects of worship. A countercultural
witness that I think is needed in Grand Rapids First, is the attitude of praying out loud. When I say

Definition Essay: My Philosophy Of Worship
Every follower of Christ has a different philosophy of worship. Although all Christians have the
same fundamental beliefs, everyone has a unique philosophy. A person's life experiences and
individual faith walk influence their personal philosophy. My philosophy of worship is that all of
God's children need a community in which their faith is enhanced by those around them and
Christians should use their gifts and talents to glorify Him. Worship comes in many different forms.
The literal definition of worship is an expression of adoration of a deity. Although this is true, it is a
broad and vague definition. Followers of Christ use all sorts of things to glorify God. The Bible's
most basic definition of worship is found in the gospel of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Corporate worship is group worship. God commands his people to worship corporately multiple
times throughout the Bible. An example of this would be in the book of Hebrews, "And let us
consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting
together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another–and all the more as you see
the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10:24–25). In the beginning, God designed people to be together,
and he commands his people to worship together as the body of Christ. This is why I stated "that all
of God's children need a community in which their faith is enhanced by those around them" as a part
of my philosophy. Relationships with fellow Christians is essential to a strong relationship with
God. Individual worship is also important to one's faith. This is usually prayer or devotion in one's
home. Jesus emphasizes the importance of individual worship in the gospels, "But the news about
Jesus spread all the more, and great crowds came to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses.
Yet He frequently withdrew to the wilderness to pray" (Luke 5:16). God wants his people to worship
in a community, but He also wants all of his followers to form a personal relationship with him.
Individual worship is necessary in order to create and strengthen a personal relationship with

The members testified of the goodness of the Lord and how he had delivered them from different
tragedies in their life, some even sang hymns (Horne, 1983). I was trying to grasp what was going
on as other members cried out to the Holy Spirit in tears of worship as they were led. I experienced
others who spoke out with different tongues. Shortly after the testimony service, several members
began walking up to the altar; they were greeted by ministers that anointed each of their foreheads
with oil and prayed for each member individually (Horne, 1983). The Pastor came to the
congregation and began to worship the Lord as he was led, and presented words of praise.
Afterward, he asked the members to turn with him to the scripture reading for the morning. Pastor
Horne proceeded with the reading of scripture in the King James Version. Granted, the Pastor did
not use sermon notes. However, after he finished delivering his message, he came down from the
pulpit and opened the doors of the church for those who had not accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord
and personal savior (Horne, 1983). An offering was taken up, then the minutes was read, and lastly
the benediction.

of the service, they assembled at the foot of the alter and processed out of the church with the
congregation following. It seemed to flow naturally with the servers leading and carrying the cross
standard and candles. The two readers followed carrying the book with the readings. The two
ministers were last in line. They greeted people sitting near the aisles, especially the children.

6. What one thing impacted you the most in terms of what the worship leader did to tie the service
into biblical teaching and biblical experience? The gospel was of the story about the Pharisees
attempted to trick Jesus on the permissibility of divorce. The homily was about the sacredness of
marriage and the family. He noted that about one in three marriages end in divorce, but for couples
who attend worship services together it drips to one in thirty, and even further for those who pray
together at home.
7. Is there anything that you feel could have been done to add to the scriptural foundation of worship
during this service?
The Catholic mass is actually a re–enactment of the Last Supper and is based largely on scripture.
The two readings, the responsorial psalms, and the gospel are all scriptural in nature. The scriptural
foundation of worship could have been emphasized more. From my experience, Catholics usually
do not study scripture to the degree that other Christians do. Providing the scriptural references in
the worship is a good idea, but many members of congregation were probably unaware of the
context and message of the scriptural passage listed.

Catholic Church Observation Papers
Recently, I took the opportunity to visit a different church's service other than my own. I did a lot of
research to see what services close to where I live and thankfully I live somewhat close to Toledo so
there were many different options. I chose to attend a service at Congregation B'nai Israel, which is
a Jewish service. I didn't know if I would feel comfortable going by myself so I asked my mom to
also go with me because going to different services and churches can sometimes be an
overwhelming experience. We dressed conservatively because we weren't exactly sure how to be
dressed. Before attending this service, I had never been to a Jewish service.
When first pulling up to this synagogue, I was surprised by the shape of the building. It had a
circular shape design to the building with beautiful brick on the side. I am Catholic and attend my
Catholic church every weekend, so seeing a building which such different structure made me realize
how different some religions are. My church looks like an average church someone would picture

The one thing I would say was the most different was how long the service was. The service at
Congregation B'nai Israel was almost three hours long. My church service is only about forty–five
minutes long. At first I felt uncomfortable being in a different service, but I'm glad I got to
experience something different. I've been to other catholic churches and even those have been
different from my own church, but overall I got the same message. This Jewish service was
completely different then what I was used to. I also thought it was different that the men and women
sat on different sides of the synagogue. When I go to church, I go with my entire family so
separating men and women doesn't seem like something I would like, but I understand that is a

Dreamers Of Religion
It's a warm Sunday morning coast to coast, as little boys and girls rush to the church that sits
patiently waiting for them to arrive. Their parents follow behind, walking just fast enough to keep
up, but not so fast that they too look like children. The elderly seem to have already taken their
seats, as they like to arrive early in order to obtain their reserved spot only made so according to
them. Whether the congregation gathers in a barn or a cathedral, you will always find the same three
types of churchgoers: the hypocrite, the seeker, and the day dreamer. The hypocrite goes to church
as if they were going on stage at Broadway. They put on an elaborate act, declaring they are
Christian, and seem to have everyone fooled. They may show up every Sunday, but this is just so

The day dreamer sways back in forth from wanting to further their relationship with God and just
wanting the service to be over with. They pay attention to some parts but for the majority of the
service they are day dreaming and thinking about lunch rather than the message the preacher is
trying to relay to the congregation. The day dreamers of the church body seem to be what holds
everything together. They bring in the numbers especially on the holidays and create some liveliness
in the church that otherwise wouldn't exist. This group pays little attention to the politics of the
church and couldn't care more about who's on the vestry or not. Children are included into the day
dreamer category because even though they are seen as Christians and attend church they aren't
necessarily there for spiritual nourishment. They are there to attend Sunday school and walk into
church during the children's homily in order to entertain the adults and prove that the church does
contain young people. The day dreamer may be a churchgoer but they don't stay

Hinduism, Christianity, And Islam Essay
It is understood that each of the Abrahamic religions have tradition as interpreted through scripture.
These traditions typically manifest through the practice of worship and ritual, which may be unique
to each religion. The purpose of worship and ritual in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam is to show
service and submission to the one all–powerful, infinite God through prayers unique to that faith,
weekly worship gatherings, and various traditions. However execution of worship and ritual varies
as a result of historical influences and how that religion decides to display their "service" to God
through the aspects of prayer and traditions. The main intention of worship and ritual is to show
"service" to God, which is known for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as "avodah," "liturgy," and
"ibada" respectively. Each sentiment holds a strongly similar meaning to each of the Abrahamic
faiths. While the interpretation of how exactly to execute "service" deviates with each religion, the
reason for it remains constant: to pay homage and show surrender to God. Worship then "is the
ongoing personal translation of faith into forms of devotion suited to the activities and
responsibilities of a person's daily life" (JCM 157). Prior to the destruction of the Second Temple,
the Jewish people partook in sacrificial rites as a means of worship and ritual. However these rites
could only be done in a holy temple by a priest and, since the second Temple was destroyed, the
Jewish people could

Blended Worship By Robert Webber
Blended Worship Defined Most church members have a misperception of what blended worship
truly is. Because of the "worship wars" of the past two decades, the typical church member thinks
blended worship is a service that uses both "contemporary" and "traditional" worship music. While
this may be one aspect of blended worship, it fails to capture its full meaning. Robert Webber states
that the distinguishing features of blended worship "can be arranged under three headings – content,
structure, and style."1 According to Webber, the content of blended worship addresses three areas;
the language of mystery, the language of story, and the language of symbol.2 The language of
mystery acknowledges the "unknowable nature of God." The language of story refers to the
metanarrative of the Bible; God 's redemptive plan for fallen man. The language of symbol describes
how we experience the worship of the Holy Spirit. Webber asserts that worship
"acknowledges the transcendence, the great glory and incomprehensible nature of God the Father. It
tells the story from beginning to end of how God created, how the world fell away from him, how
he became involved in the history of the world in Israel and in his incarnation in Jesus to rescue the
world through his death, resurrection, and coming in glory to reign as lord over all creation. And it
unleashes the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in the assembled people, in ministry, in Word
and Sacrament, and it connects God and

A Ministry Leader At Fellowship Bible Baptist Church
As a Ministry Leader at Fellowship Bible Baptist Church, I have always had an interest of how other
ministries and denomination across the country held their worship services. However, I had the
privilege of visiting, and worshipping with Holy Community Pentecostal Church in Adel, Georgia.
The Church is a Non–Denominational Pentecostal Church that was founded in 1983 under the
leadership of George Horne. The Church Motto is serving and reaching out to the entire community,
as well as meeting the needs of the people. I must admit their style of worship is entirely different
from what I am accustom to in worship service. Upon arriving at the church and entering into the
Sanctuary, I was greeted by ushers at each entrance of the Church. Although, to my surprise was an
enormous painting of Jesus that covered the entire wall behind the pulpit (Horne, 1983). The
painting of Jesus revealed him with his hands stretched out with nail prints in the palm of his hands
reaching out to you as you walked in the church (Horne, 1983). The seating of the pulpit was a huge
chair in the center of the pulpit that sat up high for the Pastor, with chairs to the right and left of him
for his ministers. Further, I notice as the members entered the Sanctuary one by one that they went
to the altar and knelt down and prayed (Horne, 1983).
As the members that entered the church finished praying, that was followed by praise and worship
service where the worshipping team sang numerous songs.

This dynamic church is one of many which form a congregation of churches. Specifically, there are

Worship Is a Verb
Book Review
Worship is a Verb: Eight Principles for Transforming Worship by Robert E. Webber
The title of this book, Worship is a Verb, might suggest that it is the major premise of the book.
Indeed, in the first chapter Webber lays out his contention that worship is a verb – something we are
to be doing. He continues to come back to this thought throughout the book.
Description of the Book
Chapter 1, Winds of Change
The author begins the book with his personal frustration with worship and his perception that there
is a widespread shift in thinking concerning worship. He lists five new insights he has had
concerning worship and eight principles of worship. The author expands on these eight principles in
the next nine chapters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personal Evaluation
The major thesis of Worship is a Verb is that Biblical worship is a re–enactment of Christ's life,
death, and resurrection. Therefore, this primary assertion must be true for the rest of the book to
hold together. Webber says that "the content of Old Testament worship is determined by the
Exodus–event, while the content of New Testament worship is determined by the Christ–event"
(2004, p. 28).
Webber then notes three parallels between the Exodus and the Christ–event. He points that Christ
reveals himself as God revealed Himself to the Israelites through Moses' message of deliverance. He
talks about how Exodus was a redemption of Israel from the oppression of her enemies and was
commemorated by the yearly Passover. Similarly, Christ's death on the Cross provides us
redemption from sin. After the Exodus, God created himself a people as He and the
Israelites entered a covenantal agreement at Mt. Sinai. Similarly, Jesus, who is the New
Covenant, has created himself a people, the Church of God.
The problem, however, is that Webber fails to prove that Old Testament worship actually recreated
the Exodus–event. Yes, the Israelites celebrated the Passover yearly, but there is nothing to suggest
they did so on a weekly basis. Furthermore, while Webber says that the worship of

Also, the function of these places is for use and celebration on regular service days, plus holy days.
Each religion has holy days or days of special worship and each location holds the service for them.
In addition to the service they hold, they provide a space for the religious leader to speak and teach

Skills And Ethics Of Human Services Course
In my CEPD 3200: Skills and Ethics in Human Services course, I had to complete three hours of
service learning in a facility of my choice. For my Service Learning Project, I volunteered at
Southern Hills Christian Church, a local church that my family attends. Southern Hills Christian
Church has a church service for children in Kindergarten–3rd grade called "All Stars", which is
where I completed my service learning hours. I chose to complete my hours at the church in the
children's department because I have an interest in wanting to work with children as a career. Also, I
am an active volunteer at my church, so I did not need to go through any background checks,
paperwork, etc. The following is what I did while completing my service learning hours, what I
learned, and how I can apply this into the real world. The All Stars children service at Southern Hills
Christian Church runs for three different services on Sunday mornings, and one service on
Wednesday nights. I attended two separate Sunday morning services and one Wednesday night
service. The two Sunday morning services that I attended were each on a different Sunday. Before
each service begins, there is a game rom that the children who attend service can play in while they
are waiting for service to commence, as some come early before the service starts. Since I came
early, I used this time to interact with the children, such as asking how their day was going, playing
games with the children, etc. As a counselor,

Benefits Of Blended Worship?
Benefits of Blended Worship
Worship should unite fellow believers. It should never be something that causes discord within the
church. Paul writes in Romans, "now may the God who gives endurance and encouragement allow
you to live in harmony with one another, according to the command of Christ Jesus, so that you may
glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with a united mind and voice."1 Unity is a must.
Blended worship is a way to unite all worshipers. Redman states that "a service that brings older and
newer elements together can be a spiritually enriching experience for the worshiper."2 He goes on to
mention that blended worship participants report a healthy appreciation for many of the older
elements used in services, particularly hymns and ordinances.3 Blended worship allows the many
generations to encourage one another. In Colossians 3:16, Paul writes that believers should, "let the
message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all
wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God. While
there are varying opinions on the original meaning of the phrase "psalms, hymns, and spiritual
songs," it is clear that in the context of Paul 's writing, there was more than one type of song used in
worship and that worshipers are to engage with each other through teaching and admonition. While
music does not equal worship, it is an important aspect of a Christian worship

Personal Narrative: The Panther Creek Baptist Church
Going to a church that is not of your current denomination or faith is an uncommon thing to do. We
are accustomed to staying within the group of people that have common beliefs, especially in
regards to religion. Therefore, attending a different church can be uncomfortable for some.
Personally, I had the irrational fear of being rejected by church goers of a Southern Baptist church
for worshiping the same God in a different manner. Despite my initial concern of being left out or
unacknowledged at the sermon, Panther Creek Baptist Church was humble, welcoming, and open to
talk about the regular attendants.
The trip to the church that was in the middle of nowhere was a 20–minute drive from the city of
Asheboro and the roads were seemingly nonexistent. Fortunately, there were signs posted along the
country dirt roads to guide the drivers towards the parking lot. The first thing that can be seen after

Although the small group of church goers were mostly elderly Caucasian people, they were diverse
and friendly towards new individuals. Those who wore the traditional, elegant attire of a Sunday

preferred to wear casual outfits greeted with tight hugs and hearty laughter from seeing a new face.
After talking to more than half of the attendants, it was evident that everyone knew a lot about each
other. It was nice to hear that most of them had overwhelmingly positive words to say about the
church itself. Then, I finally met the middle–aged pastor who was glad to see someone new and
introduced me to his wife. She had a stoic expression and had nothing to say. Honestly, the wife's
silence struck me as surprising considering how the other people were talkative, but it is nothing to
be overly concerned about. After all, it was almost time for the Sunday service to

Chapel Attendance : Chapel, Chapel Analysis, And Worship...
The questions are categorized in three major sections, which are shown in sample survey as "Chapel
Attendance", "Chapel Analysis," and "Worship reflection." Chapel attendance criteria is composed
with seven questions that asks of a student's consistency in chapel attendance as Kuyper College
does not require students from attending chapels. As a result, Kuyper College chapel struggled
through its attendance rate at year 2014, recording lowest number of approximately 15 people or
less out of around 250 student body. Fortunately, the number of chapel attendance at year 2015 is
now restored and average chapel attendance records around 90–120. However, fluctuating number
of the chapel attendance shows that there are no guarantee for the Kuyper chapel to face similar
problem. Therefore, questions 4–6 ask whether a student attends the chapel regularly and if so,
which day they tend to attend the chapels most. If a student replies that he or she does not attend
chapel regularly, then the question 7 asks the student reason behind lack of their attendance rate. The
question 7 provides multiple choices for a student to choose from such as homework, sleep–in,
work, and more. Chapel analysis criteria is consisted with seven questions, which aims to know
activities, which certain students enjoy in the chapel and reasons behind it. The questions also seeks
to identify activities that will draw students, who do not regularly attend chapels while asking
reasons behind it. Question 8 and

Worship and Music
Passionately Pursing our God in Music and Worship Music is of God's creation and an integral part
of our lives, yet much of the current experience is one of the most emotionally charged and divisive
issues facing the Christian Church, families, and individuals in America today. Pastors, worship
leaders, trained musicians, and believers in general face new and powerful forces of change – forces
that bring renewal to some churches and fear and schism to others. No one can sidestep the hot

Hopefully, the church will exercise diligent study of the more than six hundred passages in the
Scriptures that will gradually define this issue of musical belief and practice in more biblical terms
based on solid exegesis of God's Word.
The purpose of worship is to attribute worth to God (Psalm 27:6), to praise God (Psalm 150:3–4), to
lift the emotions of the heart (Ephesians 5:18–19), to learn Scripture and spiritual truths by singing
(Psalm 32:7–8), to introduce others to Jesus Christ (Psalm 40:3), to instruct and convict through the
proclamation and singing of scriptural texts (Isaiah 55:11; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Ephesians 5:15–21),
and to encourage obedience (James 1:25). God is the primary focus of our worship endeavors, but
we must also consider the effect of our worship upon one another. John Frame addresses this issue,
stating, "The focus of our effort in worship should be on pleasing [God]. From this principle, some
might conclude that we should not pay any attention to human needs in worship. Talk like that can
sound very pious, but it is unbiblical. In worship, we should not be so preoccupied with God that we
ignore one another. For example, worshipers should not ignore the needs of the poor (Isaiah 1:10–
17).

Friday is observed as the public day of prayer in which all men are required to attend prayer service
at a local place of worship, if they are able, "women are not expected to attend the service as they
are upheld as caretakers of home and family." This Friday service is the ceremony that I attended. It
was pointed out by the woman who acted as our guide that, "Friday is equivalent to a Jews Saturday
and a Christian's Sunday." Islamic prayer is a systematic and beautifully executed form of worship.
Standing, bowing, sitting, kneeling and prostrating oneself are all implemented in various phases of
salat, these are part of a finely orchestrated ritual. The following phrases are chanted in succession
during prayer, with afore mentioned intermittent bodily orientations; "In the name of Allah, most
gracious, most merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the universe. Most gracious, most merciful.
Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, you alone we ask for help. Guide us in the
right path; the path of those whom you blessed, not of those who have deserved wrath, nor of the
strayers." Consequently, these words and movements are repeated until the conclusion of prayer is
attained. Emphasis is placed on charity to the poor in the Islamic religion. In the service I attended,
importance of helping those in need was conveyed to the Muslims believers. Moreover, following
the concluded service, while touring the facility, I noticed a sign directing parishioners as to

Anglican Church Research Paper
The Anglican Church, more commonly known as The Church of England, exists worldwide and has
been since 1534. The service of an Anglican Church communion can be witnessed at St Matthews
Anglican Church, West Pymble, Sydney. What is also evident in this worship are the beliefs of
Christianity. These beliefs include that Christ is fully divine and fully human, God is the Father, Son
and Holy Spirit, there is one God, Jesus resurrected and his eternal life after death.
St Matthew's Anglican Church had an amazing atmosphere and ambiance. The presence of worship
and reverence is welcoming and gave a feeling of calmness. The Churches Architectural style is
simple but the interior of the church is warm and friendly. What is first noticed is the altar ... Show

Within St Matthew's Anglican Church, portions of the worship such as the Nicene Creed, the Lord's
Prayer and the Communion itself are linked to the beliefs of Christians. Said before the prayers of
the intercession, the Nicene Creed is a text early in the Church's history. This ration of the worship
relates significantly to the beliefs of Christianity as it was created to find conformity beliefs among
Christians. This Creed confirms Christ as divine and human, and that God is the Father, Son and
Holy Spirit. The Lord's Prayer is also spoken during the worship of Holy Communion. This is
connected to Christian beliefs as it is this prayer that Jesus gave to his disciples when they asked
him to teach them how to pray. This also taught them about there being only one God. The action of
the Communion is linked to Christian beliefs as it reminds oneself of Christ's suffering during his
resurrection and his eternal life after death. The Lord's Supper is a holy time of worship where the
congregation come together to celebrate and remember what Christ did for

Catholic Church Observation

  • 1. Catholic Church Observation I attended the Body of Christ (BOC) church service in Oakland Park, Florida run by people from the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. The service was similar in many ways to traditional interdenominational or non–denominational church services. The service started at 10:30 am and was competed by 12:00 noon. What was particularly nice was after the service all attendees were invited to attend pot luck lunch that is provided every week. The service started promptly at 10:30 am. Several songs of contemporary music were played and sang by the worship team and congregation. They also sang two songs that were from the old very traditional church worship at the end one was the Old Rugged Cross and the other Amazing Grace. I was raised Catholic and have attended many different denominations throughout my lifetime. I have for the past 10 years attended an Evangelical Presbyterian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They recently had celebrated their 20 year anniversary. They still had banners on the wall from the celebration when I attended. I had taken the time to interview some of the members and pastor after the service. The original founder was a young man who had completed the Southern Baptist seminary. Upon completing his degree and ordination he came out to his family and church that he was gay. During that time he had a difficult time, as the Southern Baptist Church, took a hard line against his being a homosexual. He left the Baptist church and moved to South Florida from Arkansas. He discovered that he still loved God and wanted to do ministry. He particularly felt called to work for and in the Gay community. He started the BOC church primarily for the Gay community. His parents who were also staunch Southern Baptist decided their love of God and their child was more important than their church legalism. His vision was a place where regardless of sexual orientation all people would be welcome and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Local Church Formal System Of Power And Authority Organizations, including church congregations, are unique in its context and understanding of how to function as an organization. One thing not so unique is the system of power and authority. Each congregation has a set structure of how the organization will operate and distribute power and authority. Surprising to some, there also is an informal system of power and authority that often carries more control than the written plan. The nearly 170–year–old Coalbush United Methodist Church has both an informal and formal organizational structural system. The local church formal system has a very structured system that is designed by the Book of Discipline: the procedural guidelines of the United Methodist Church. The guideline for ordering the church provides a formation of checks and balances between the laity and clergy. The pastor has a voice on every committee, but no vote with the exception of the committee that nominates persons to serve on every committee of the congregation. Each church must have a board of trustees, finance team, a personnel committee, and an administrative council. The administrative council is the central deciding board of the church consisting of chairperson from every committee of the church and a few at large members. I was appointed to Coalbush beginning July 1, 2016. I have been observing and serving as I attempt to discover the unique context and setting for this local church in this season of its very long history. The power and ... • 5. Worship Quest: An Exploration Of Worship Leadership Until now, I've never realized the value a job title holds when deciphering between occupations that are similar, yet possess different expectations. When I initially began researching the question, "What is a worship pastor?" it was hard for me to distinguish between a worship pastor and a worship leader. In my own church, I've always heard the term worship leader used to describe the role of someone who prepares and leads the music for the weekly services. When I first heard the term worship pastor used during our classroom discussions, it became evident to me that these two occupations in the church play a pivotal, but different role. During my research, it became apparent that a worship pastor is deeply rooted in the congregation. According to Kristi Winkler, worship pastors minister within the church by leading others in worship, and also mentor, counsel, and pastor members of the worship team. Even if they never preach a sermon, a worship pastor will typically have the pastor–like responsibility to lead and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is an honor to lead God's people in worship and leaders of worship must be faithful in what God desires them to do. Steven Brooks, author of Worship Quest: An Exploration of Worship Leadership, has said, "The primary question to be asked by those being called to worship leadership should be: Which worship leadership role–Worship Leader, Song Leader, Worship Artist, or Worship Pastor–is God calling me to fulfill?" Each of these roles is a specific worship leadership role of which God calls people. Understanding God's call is of vital importance in order to successfully fulfill that call (Brooks, 106.) As people who God chose to give musical ability to, it is our job to use discernment to establish what he has called us to do with our talents, and how we can use our talents to draw people in to his ... RODNEY WHALEY IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COMPLETION OF THE COURSE MUSC 610 – TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES FOR WORSHIP BY KIANAN SMITH LYNCHBURG, VA JUNE 2014 Name: Kianan Smith Book Report # Spring 2014 Semester Hungry for Worship by: Frank S. Page and L. Lavon Gray Chapter 1: Summary: In this text, Hungry for Worship, authors Frank Page and L. Gray write about the hunger for worshipping God that all leaders should possess. In chapter 1, both authors begin the text with the concept of how the body has fallen in love with the method of worship and not the actual act of being in the Presence of God. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They give examples from C.S. Lewis when discussing this subject. They quote Lewis with the term "Chronological snobbery". This term means that while older generations only find value in the traditions and heritage of our faith, the younger generations only find relevance in what is current. They also write this type of separation between the young and old has effectively begun dismembering the body of Christ limb by limb. The authors also put focus on the act of individual preferences through church shopping. This according to Page and Gray, result in the encouraging of churches to offer consumer–driven programming in order to keep members on their rolls. They give scripture which identifies the importance of unity. Ephesians 4:14–16 shows how the body of Christ should be unified in the midst of diversity. Leaders should work extra hard to keep the church family worshipping together. The authors condemn chronological snobbery and suggest that both the young and old come together. The young generation must grow up and the older generation needs to adapt. Analysis: The authors point out a huge problem that is alive and well in the church. Due to personal preferences, the church has separated itself from one another. Not only are different cultures separate but the age differences within the church are separated amongst themselves. The leaders of worship within the church whether they are pastors or worship band leaders must not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. A Worship Service At The Unitarian Church Of Harrisburg,... On April 3rd, 2016 I attend a worship service at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; the Clover lane branch. Reverend Michael Walker is the interim minister that led the service. Upon arrival the parking lot was filled with higher class vehicles, along with some hybrid and eco–cars. When entering the sanctuary the congregation was mostly white in race and mostly male in gender. The congregation acted to be of higher class or wealthy. The main colors with in the sanctuary were blue and grey with a very open floor plan. The congregation sits to face the stage with a giant wall of glass panel windows that give an amazing view of the outdoors. There is a back drop where the minister stands that seems to be made out of cinder blocks but was very modern and geometrical in pattern. There was a front table on the stage that had fresh flowers, a set of human figurines and a fire torch. The building inside has very sharp linear architecture and was very modern overall. The ceremonial clothing was not casual for the congregation, but a little more formal. Men wore suits with or without their jackets and ties and bowties. The women wore dress or skirts and a few had pants on. The women were dressed conservatively and the children wore similar things to what their parents were wearing. The minister wore a navy suit with a grey shirt and a navy tie. He also wore a shawl over his shoulders that was yellow with a blue and grey design. Before the service started a member of ... • 11. Personal Statement : ' Freedom Church For my second analysis, I went to a church in my hometown of Paris, Texas called Freedom Church. This church is a new non–denominational church that is trying to reach to the "de–churched and unchurched" as their tag line says. They have only been operational now for less than a year, so they are still trying to get new people to join their church. For this reason, this past Friday they put on a huge Easter event for kids and adults that had games, dinner, and a worship service. I saw and experienced some aspects of what non–denominational believe, and the freedom this church let people have during worship. There were also many things that happened throughout the service that I noticed that we talked about in class that I found they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personally, I did not go into this part of the service with a good attitude because of the glow–in–the– dark theme service. I did not see how this would aid my worship or improve it by any means, but I still decided to go of course. The pastor was very inviting in the welcome and then showed a worship video. I liked this video on worship because it helped get my mind in the right mindset that I needed to be in for worship. Then the worship band came up and began the service very smooth. There were a lot of lights directed at the band, and as we began worship it reminded me of what the beginning of a concert would look like. In class we talked about how we do not worship to be a show, but an acceptance of the invitation God has given us to worship Him. While worship began, the thought of this conversation popped in my head as the lights started to flash transitioning into the next song. As worship progressed, we continued singing more and more upbeat songs that were mostly about the Spirit, and people started to respond more and more emotionally. I was able to personally worship as freely as I wanted to, but the lights again started to actually distract me from truly worshipping. It was very moving though to see people responding to the Holy Spirit by kneeling, praying, and raising hands. The worship leader was also very expressive of his emotions during the service. • 13. The Spiritual Discipline Of Worship Introduction The spiritual discipline that I have chosen is worship. When I think of the term 'worship' my initial response is singing to God but throughout this course I have learnt that although singing is one important aspect of worship, that it is so much more than just that. Worship is to "honour and adore the Trinity as the supreme treasure of life." Worship is offering your whole self to God. Worship is a choice and a way of life. Summarise your original understanding of the discipline before the course started Before I began studying the discipline of worship I understood worship as singing to God. I believed that it was something that came naturally to every believer, that it was something that you just did when you were a Christian. To think of worship as a discipline was a bit of a struggle for me. I understood worship to be lifting God up with your voice either in church meetings or in your quiet time at home and only had a basic understanding of what living a lifestyle of worship looked like. A Significant Christian figure in history who has contributed to this discipline The significant Christian figure that I would like to focus on is William Booth. William was born in England, gave his life to Jesus at the age of 15 and "is best known today as founder and first general of the Salvation Army". William had a passion for music and a niche for using secular songs to reach the lost, although he was often criticized by others for doing so. He contributed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Essay On My Farm House During some of my early farm–boy life, I attended some wonderful churches in Edmonton and Metcalfe County. The church nearest our farm home was the one–room Good Hope Baptist Church, which was located alongside the gravel–surfaced Knob Lick Road about three miles from Edmonton. As a youngster, my attendance was usually limited to those infrequent and short periods of time when the church had a pastor and during occasional revival services. My Mom and I would walk together from our tenant farm to the church attend the worship services as well as an occasional 'dinner on the grounds.' Dad did go to the church grounds on some occasions, but often remained outside the church with a few other men during the church services. All of the men; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He always remained seated in silence and looked straight ahead. I have often wondered if he ever accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in later years. Dinner on the grounds was an event usually held after morning church services. A very l–o–n–g table was set up in an L configuration. It was assembled with rough sawn planks laid on a series of saw horses and covered with bed sheets used as tablecloths. Each family brought one or more items of food, which varied from event to event, but would always result in delicious meals consisting of some of the following: cornbread, biscuits, fried chicken, ham, chicken and dumplings, several varieties of beans, potatoes prepared in a variety of ways, cabbage, fried apples, radishes, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, slaw, onions, squash, chocolate, apple, butterscotch and rhubarb pie, chocolate cake, caramel cake with hickory nuts on its icing, blackberry cobbler, iced tea, coffee, lemonade, Kool–Aid, watermelon, muskmelon, and other goodies. Now you know why it was a l–o–n–g table. Another childhood experience with a church involved a Presbyterian pastor who drove out into the country and picked up myself and other youngsters, then drove us to his church in Edmonton. There we were joined with youngsters who lived in town and we all participated in the church's youth events. Afterward, the pastor would drive us back to our homes. Reflection On The Order Of Worship In The Church Reflecting upon the readings of Torrance's Worship, Community, and the Triune God of Grace and White's Introduction to Christian Worship will deeply shape how I look at worship in the churches I now order worship for the congregations. I used one of the churches in which I serve to do the Order of Worship assignment. It is a blue collar, small membership church located in a rural, retirement/ vacation area of North Carolina, Lake Gaston. It is also predominately Caucasian. Torrance's focus is on trinitarian worship, participating in Christ's communion with God, the Father and Christ's life, death, and resurrection through the power of the Holy Spirit. And White's focus is to look at how the forms used in worship give worship its meaning. These forms include but are not exclusive of, time, space, music and art. There are implications for both focuses in the order of worship for the congregation used for my order of worship. Torrance focuses on the understanding of trinitarian worship. Trinitarian worship is the participation in Christ's communion with the Father through the Holy Spirit, in Christ's vicarious life, death, resurrection and Christ's intercession for humanity. Torrance's view of trinitarian worship is supporting and encouraging of the doctrines of the Trinity, of God, of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and others which build upon these base doctrines. Torrance sees other forms of worship such as unitarian worship as being unsupportive and destructive of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although I am not completely in the dark when it comes to religion I have learn about different religion through friends and books. Therefore, I thought this would be a great opportunity to finally experience a service and put my ignorance aside. Meaning the assumption and expectation I had of church service. Furthermore, it provided me the opportunity to challenge myself and my own biases I have towards going to church. Once I went to church I was surprise to see so many black people, for the first time since I moved too Greensburg, I was actual able to see a room overflowing with individual who looked just like me, my first emotion was excitement and enjoy. Some of my expectation, was something I have learned from my mother. My mother always told me that "black people churches last longer", with this in mind I was prepare to be there for a long time. However, to my surprise it did not last as long as I'd expected it to. My overall experience, was warming, peaceful and positive. Some of the connection I'd experience during the service was when the pastor was talking about having hope and sticking by someone who have continuous mistreated you. A wave of confusion struck me, I was unaware at the time that it was anger and pain that connected to my past experiences with others who I have devoted my time to, whom happen to mistreated me. He has an incredibly close, personal touch, yet, at the same time is naturally more quiet and withdrawing. Analysis of Leadership Dynamics Pastor X's leadership theory is clearly a bottom–up approach; he avoids wrangling the conversation unfairly to his perspective, instead, he identifies himself as a component of the process, not the process itself. This instills in the members a trust in him that is remarkably deep. He also tends to seek out members for services that they provide (i.e. medical) in order that he can relate to them on a personal while simultaneously on a spiritual level. As I pointed out above, he empowers his members by giving them opportunities and allowing them to experiment, with the promise that he will be there to provide support if problems explode. However, this model allows problems to be resolved quickly and quietly and not spiral rapidly out of control. He averts empowering the members in the way of resources–what I am alluding to is that he is willing to acquire resources when needed, yet avoids seeking them out himself. He feels that it is best for individual leaders of departments to determine these decisions. His relationship with the church is uncommonly positive, in spite of a few differences. For example, during one nominating committee it was determined by the Filipino delegation, which is the vast majority of the church, that the number Caucasians and African–Americans who held leadership positions was rife and ... For the infants that are unable to respond, the godparents respond on their behalf with the hope that the children will take on that responsibility when they get older. The contents in Common Worship also affirms that as the church recognises those that have been called by God, and as the church welcomes them into the Christian community, those that are already part of the Christian community are inspired to renew their commitment to the mission of the church of God. Thus affirming that the covenant is God given to infants and adults and the obligation it gives is gradually unfolded. Common Worship also emphasises the ?social aspect? of baptism and not just the individual aspect of baptism. This is done by an active participation of the gathered congregation in the liturgy thus enabling the congregation to reflect on their role as God?s holy people, prompted to renew their understanding of why they are gathered. The increased participation of the congregation helps to affirm and symbolise that the baptism of the individual is for the whole church and not just for the individual.

I'm not sure who was ordained, because I'm still new, I know that these are my class mates, and we don't really get in to who is ordained and who is not. So, I'm going to assume that they were all lay persons. There were about 6 people involved in the service, there were 3 musicians a 3 people that read different part of the service. It was a different type of service than I'm use to so I found it to be a refreshing change of pace. The great thing about this service is that it was especially peaceful. • 28. Worship Analysis : The Baptist Church Worship Analysis #2 For my second analysis, I went to a church in my hometown of Paris, Texas called Freedom Church. I saw and experienced some aspects of what non–denominational believe or practice, but also noticed that they had some Baptist influence in their service. Though they did some things different, I found throughout the service there were some similarities to the Baptist church I attended. There were also many things that happened throughout the service that I noticed are things that we talked about in class that I found they were successful in accomplishing or they failed at. First off, the evening started off with a dinner and an Easter egg hunt for the kids. While eating dinner many of the people from the church were very inviting and kind. They introduced themselves to me and asked me questions about how I was and things like that. There were some of the staff that were more stand offish then the other people were. Furthermore, there is a huge crucifix right in front of the main entrance of the auditorium; in my opinion, this helps believers to shift their focus [from the world] to Jesus as they enter God's presence. Additionally, Pastor Sam preached in a way that was applicable to both the old and young. • 32. Definition Essay: My Philosophy Of Worship Every follower of Christ has a different philosophy of worship. Although all Christians have the same fundamental beliefs, everyone has a unique philosophy. A person's life experiences and individual faith walk influence their personal philosophy. My philosophy of worship is that all of God's children need a community in which their faith is enhanced by those around them and Christians should use their gifts and talents to glorify Him. Worship comes in many different forms. The literal definition of worship is an expression of adoration of a deity. Although this is true, it is a broad and vague definition. Followers of Christ use all sorts of things to glorify God. The Bible's most basic definition of worship is found in the gospel of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Corporate worship is group worship. God commands his people to worship corporately multiple times throughout the Bible. An example of this would be in the book of Hebrews, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10:24–25). In the beginning, God designed people to be together, and he commands his people to worship together as the body of Christ. This is why I stated "that all of God's children need a community in which their faith is enhanced by those around them" as a part of my philosophy. Relationships with fellow Christians is essential to a strong relationship with God. Individual worship is also important to one's faith. This is usually prayer or devotion in one's home. Jesus emphasizes the importance of individual worship in the gospels, "But the news about Jesus spread all the more, and great crowds came to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses. Yet He frequently withdrew to the wilderness to pray" (Luke 5:16). God wants his people to worship in a community, but He also wants all of his followers to form a personal relationship with him. • 44. Hinduism, Christianity, And Islam Essay It is understood that each of the Abrahamic religions have tradition as interpreted through scripture. These traditions typically manifest through the practice of worship and ritual, which may be unique to each religion. The purpose of worship and ritual in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam is to show service and submission to the one all–powerful, infinite God through prayers unique to that faith, weekly worship gatherings, and various traditions. However execution of worship and ritual varies as a result of historical influences and how that religion decides to display their "service" to God through the aspects of prayer and traditions. The main intention of worship and ritual is to show "service" to God, which is known for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as "avodah," "liturgy," and "ibada" respectively. Each sentiment holds a strongly similar meaning to each of the Abrahamic faiths. While the interpretation of how exactly to execute "service" deviates with each religion, the reason for it remains constant: to pay homage and show surrender to God. Worship then "is the ongoing personal translation of faith into forms of devotion suited to the activities and responsibilities of a person's daily life" (JCM 157). • 46. Blended Worship By Robert Webber Blended Worship Defined Most church members have a misperception of what blended worship truly is. Because of the "worship wars" of the past two decades, the typical church member thinks blended worship is a service that uses both "contemporary" and "traditional" worship music. While this may be one aspect of blended worship, it fails to capture its full meaning. Robert Webber states that the distinguishing features of blended worship "can be arranged under three headings – content, structure, and style."1 According to Webber, the content of blended worship addresses three areas; the language of mystery, the language of story, and the language of symbol.2 The language of mystery acknowledges the "unknowable nature of God." The language of story refers to the metanarrative of the Bible; God 's redemptive plan for fallen man. The language of symbol describes how we experience the worship of the Holy Spirit. Webber asserts that worship "acknowledges the transcendence, the great glory and incomprehensible nature of God the Father. It tells the story from beginning to end of how God created, how the world fell away from him, how he became involved in the history of the world in Israel and in his incarnation in Jesus to rescue the world through his death, resurrection, and coming in glory to reign as lord over all creation. Webber The title of this book, Worship is a Verb, might suggest that it is the major premise of the book. Indeed, in the first chapter Webber lays out his contention that worship is a verb – something we are to be doing. He continues to come back to this thought throughout the book. Description of the Book Chapter 1, Winds of Change The author begins the book with his personal frustration with worship and his perception that there is a widespread shift in thinking concerning worship. He lists five new insights he has had concerning worship and eight principles of worship. The author expands on these eight principles in the next nine chapters. ... Therefore, this primary assertion must be true for the rest of the book to hold together. Webber says that "the content of Old Testament worship is determined by the Exodus–event, while the content of New Testament worship is determined by the Christ–event" (2004, p. 28). Webber then notes three parallels between the Exodus and the Christ–event. He points that Christ reveals himself as God revealed Himself to the Israelites through Moses' message of deliverance. He talks about how Exodus was a redemption of Israel from the oppression of her enemies and was commemorated by the yearly Passover. Similarly, Christ's death on the Cross provides us redemption from sin. After the Exodus, God created himself a people as He and the Israelites entered a covenantal agreement at Mt. Sinai. Similarly, Jesus, who is the New Covenant, has created himself a people, the Church of God. The problem, however, is that Webber fails to prove that Old Testament worship actually recreated the Exodus–event. Yes, the Israelites celebrated the Passover yearly, but there is nothing to suggest they did so on a weekly basis. Furthermore, while Webber says that the worship of ... • 54. Church Observation Paper Environment. I made observations of a church service. I enter through the strong, dark red, oak doors with golden handles. The room where the service was held was about 100 by 130 feet and seemed to be rectangular in shape. They were a variety of colors. The walls scale ten feet high until they slant to create the point that forms the ceiling of the chapel. The ceiling was a creamy, white color with natural–colored beams. The walls are comprised of brick ranging in colors of murky brown, black, crimson red. There were no windows in the church. There were twenty lights and each light had five light bulbs each. The floor in the church was covered with a light brown tightly woven carpet. The temperature was a perfect 67 degrees. The only decorations in the church were four or five sets of flowers consisting of only yellow roses in the front of the church. The audience sat in red, cushioned chairs that were right next to each other. There were two groups, one on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each religion has holy days or days of special worship and each location holds the service for them. Synagogues, churches, and mosques allow for the leader of the religion to provide teachings, understandings, and clarity to the religious text they all they study. • 62. Skills And Ethics Of Human Services Course In my CEPD 3200: Skills and Ethics in Human Services course, I had to complete three hours of service learning in a facility of my choice. For my Service Learning Project, I volunteered at Southern Hills Christian Church, a local church that my family attends. Southern Hills Christian Church has a church service for children in Kindergarten–3rd grade called "All Stars", which is where I completed my service learning hours. I chose to complete my hours at the church in the children's department because I have an interest in wanting to work with children as a career. Also, I am an active volunteer at my church, so I did not need to go through any background checks, paperwork, etc. The following is what I did while completing my service learning hours, what I learned, and how I can apply this into the real world. The All Stars children service at Southern Hills Christian Church runs for three different services on Sunday mornings, and one service on Wednesday nights. I attended two separate Sunday morning services and one Wednesday night service. The two Sunday morning services that I attended were each on a different Sunday. Before each service begins, there is a game rom that the children who attend service can play in while they are waiting for service to commence, as some come early before the service starts. Since I came early, I used this time to interact with the children, such as asking how their day was going, playing games with the children, etc. As a counselor, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Benefits Of Blended Worship? Benefits of Blended Worship Worship should unite fellow believers. It should never be something that causes discord within the church. Paul writes in Romans, "now may the God who gives endurance and encouragement allow you to live in harmony with one another, according to the command of Christ Jesus, so that you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with a united mind and voice."1 Unity is a must. Blended worship is a way to unite all worshipers. Redman states that "a service that brings older and newer elements together can be a spiritually enriching experience for the worshiper."2 He goes on to mention that blended worship participants report a healthy appreciation for many of the older elements used in services, particularly hymns and ordinances.3 Blended worship allows the many generations to encourage one another. In Colossians 3:16, Paul writes that believers should, "let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God. While there are varying opinions on the original meaning of the phrase "psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs," it is clear that in the context of Paul 's writing, there was more than one type of song used in worship and that worshipers are to engage with each other through teaching and admonition. While music does not equal worship, it is an important aspect of a Christian worship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Personal Narrative: The Panther Creek Baptist Church Going to a church that is not of your current denomination or faith is an uncommon thing to do. We are accustomed to staying within the group of people that have common beliefs, especially in regards to religion. Therefore, attending a different church can be uncomfortable for some. Personally, I had the irrational fear of being rejected by church goers of a Southern Baptist church for worshiping the same God in a different manner. Despite my initial concern of being left out or unacknowledged at the sermon, Panther Creek Baptist Church was humble, welcoming, and open to talk about the regular attendants. The trip to the church that was in the middle of nowhere was a 20–minute drive from the city of Asheboro and the roads were seemingly nonexistent. Fortunately, there were signs posted along the country dirt roads to guide the drivers towards the parking lot. The first thing that can be seen after getting out of the car was a small ... Those who wore the traditional, elegant attire of a Sunday worship service greeted with a firm handshake and a gentle smile. On the other hand, those who preferred to wear casual outfits greeted with tight hugs and hearty laughter from seeing a new face. After talking to more than half of the attendants, it was evident that everyone knew a lot about each other. It was nice to hear that most of them had overwhelmingly positive words to say about the church itself. Then, I finally met the middle–aged pastor who was glad to see someone new and introduced me to his wife. She had a stoic expression and had nothing to say. Honestly, the wife's silence struck me as surprising considering how the other people were talkative, but it is nothing to be overly concerned about. • 68. Chapel Attendance : Chapel, Chapel Analysis, And Worship... The questions are categorized in three major sections, which are shown in sample survey as "Chapel Attendance", "Chapel Analysis," and "Worship reflection." Chapel attendance criteria is composed with seven questions that asks of a student's consistency in chapel attendance as Kuyper College does not require students from attending chapels. As a result, Kuyper College chapel struggled through its attendance rate at year 2014, recording lowest number of approximately 15 people or less out of around 250 student body. Fortunately, the number of chapel attendance at year 2015 is now restored and average chapel attendance records around 90–120. However, fluctuating number of the chapel attendance shows that there are no guarantee for the Kuyper chapel to face similar problem. Therefore, questions 4–6 ask whether a student attends the chapel regularly and if so, which day they tend to attend the chapels most. If a student replies that he or she does not attend chapel regularly, then the question 7 asks the student reason behind lack of their attendance rate. The question 7 provides multiple choices for a student to choose from such as homework, sleep–in, work, and more. Chapel analysis criteria is consisted with seven questions, which aims to know activities, which certain students enjoy in the chapel and reasons behind it. The questions also seeks to identify activities that will draw students, who do not regularly attend chapels while asking reasons behind it. Question 8 and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Worship and Music Passionately Pursing our God in Music and Worship Music is of God's creation and an integral part of our lives, yet much of the current experience is one of the most emotionally charged and divisive issues facing the Christian Church, families, and individuals in America today. Pastors, worship leaders, trained musicians, and believers in general face new and powerful forces of change – forces that bring renewal to some churches and fear and schism to others. With billions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hopefully, the church will exercise diligent study of the more than six hundred passages in the Scriptures that will gradually define this issue of musical belief and practice in more biblical terms based on solid exegesis of God's Word. The purpose of worship is to attribute worth to God (Psalm 27:6), to praise God (Psalm 150:3–4), to lift the emotions of the heart (Ephesians 5:18–19), to learn Scripture and spiritual truths by singing (Psalm 32:7–8), to introduce others to Jesus Christ (Psalm 40:3), to instruct and convict through the proclamation and singing of scriptural texts (Isaiah 55:11; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Ephesians 5:15–21), and to encourage obedience (James 1:25). God is the primary focus of our worship endeavors, but we must also consider the effect of our worship upon one another. John Frame addresses this issue, stating, "The focus of our effort in worship should be on pleasing [God]. From this principle, some might conclude that we should not pay any attention to human needs in worship. Talk like that can sound very pious, but it is unbiblical. In worship, we should not be so preoccupied with God that we ignore one another. For example, worshipers should not ignore the needs of the poor (Isaiah 1:10– 17). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prayer Service At A Local Place Of Worship Friday is observed as the public day of prayer in which all men are required to attend prayer service at a local place of worship, if they are able, "women are not expected to attend the service as they are upheld as caretakers of home and family." This Friday service is the ceremony that I attended. It was pointed out by the woman who acted as our guide that, "Friday is equivalent to a Jews Saturday and a Christian's Sunday." Islamic prayer is a systematic and beautifully executed form of worship. Standing, bowing, sitting, kneeling and prostrating oneself are all implemented in various phases of salat, these are part of a finely orchestrated ritual. The following phrases are chanted in succession during prayer, with afore mentioned intermittent bodily orientations; "In the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the universe. Most gracious, most merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, you alone we ask for help. Guide us in the right path; the path of those whom you blessed, not of those who have deserved wrath, nor of the strayers." Consequently, these words and movements are repeated until the conclusion of prayer is attained. Emphasis is placed on charity to the poor in the Islamic religion. In the service I attended, importance of helping those in need was conveyed to the Muslims believers. Moreover, following the concluded service, while touring the facility, I noticed a sign directing parishioners as to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within St Matthew's Anglican Church, portions of the worship such as the Nicene Creed, the Lord's Prayer and the Communion itself are linked to the beliefs of Christians. Said before the prayers of the intercession, the Nicene Creed is a text early in the Church's history. This ration of the worship relates significantly to the beliefs of Christianity as it was created to find conformity beliefs among Christians. This Creed confirms Christ as divine and human, and that God is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Lord's Prayer is also spoken during the worship of Holy Communion. This is connected to Christian beliefs as it is this prayer that Jesus gave to his disciples when they asked him to teach them how to pray. This also taught them about there being only one God.
