Nursing Midwifes
Hundreds of students studying nursing, midwifery and other medical based degrees in Sheffield
have shown outrage towards the proposal to remove bursaries and replace them with loans over the
coming academic years.
Plans to remove NHS bursaries granted to student's in the medicinal field were announced under
George Osbourne's Comprehensive Spending Review last November. The Health Education
England's education and training budget of £5bn has been highlighted by the Government as part of
the Chancellors proposal to introduce more spending cuts.
Currently, student nurses and midwives receive an annual bursary from the NHS whilst they study –
which they do not have to pay back. They also do not have to pay tuition fees. At the moment,

With hospitals and clinics struggling to accommodate students at present, questions have been posed
that the proposed extra 10,000 nurses George Osbourne claims by 2020 will be trained is highly
unlikely.
First year student midwife at Sheffield Hallam University, Niamh O'loghlen, commented:
"They're going to get less people applying to health care jobs when they've got a shortage of them
and need as many nurses, midwives and doctors as they can."
Her statement is backed by the Royal College of Nursing who believe that getting rid of bursaries
would mean talented would–be nurses and midwives would choose different career paths.
Student midwife Ms O'loghlen also said:
"They won't get people applying who have a real passion for the nursing and midwifery fields. But
those who have money and can afford to live without a bursary."
At the present moment, over half of those applying to study nursing are turned away, therefore
showing there are no shortages in those eager to work in the profession. But the bursary cuts could
see the number of those applying fall by August 2017 in which the plans are proposed to take

Research Methods
Introduction of research and research methods
What is research method? As a matter of fact, according to Saundra et al. (2003), the term method in
the entire research process or project can be considered as tool or technique which help researcher
obtain, collect and analyze data or different types of information. To be more specific, Saundra et al.
(2003) point out that in order to fulfill different research projects and objectives, couples of methods
have to be properly utilized, in this case, these approaches usually include questionnaire,
observation and interviews. What is the nature of research? Saundra et al. (2003) argued that the
genuine research should be defined as a project that the outcomes or objectives can be obtained and

The quantitative data is usually collected from number or numerical data such as ration or frequency
rate, on the contrary, the qualitative data is acquired from non–standardized recording. The
quantitative data can be visualized through different graphics such as table, diagram. The qualitative
data, however can be demonstrated through statement and conceptualization.
Introduction and review of research project and research process
The research project is about the use the catering facility in catering outlets in city campus of SHU.
In order to achieve the research task and objectives, the researcher was mainly using three research
methods–observation, interview and questionnaire in terms of collecting relevant data and statistics.
Observation
The researcher chose the use of catering facility as the observation topic and set the observation
place at one of catering outlet which is in the first floor of Furnival Building and a detailed record of
the entire observation was made, The time span of this observation is about 15 minute and the time
when this observation was undertaken is in afternoon. The final data that derived from observation
is quantitative–based data and more concerned with the frequency of each action and behavior.
According to Saunders et al. (2003), there are two types of observation and each of them is
responsible for collecting different types of

Qualitative Research Philosophy
Overview: This section explains the research philosophy, the literature survey for this research, data
collection technique, data analysis approach and the overall process of the research. It started by
gather the general insights that were relevant to the research; derived the information into a research
topic; brief explanation about how the research was conducted, how the data was collected through
experiment, how the data was analysed and concluded.
3.1. Research Philosophy
The main idea of the research was built upon a general insight that was gathered by reviewing a
number relevant literature and research papers. Therefore the perspective of the research was an

Research Process
This research adopted the sequential process model, therefore the research was executed in a fixed
and continuous sequences (Dawson, 2009).
1. Identify the wider knowledge
The wider insight about relational and non–relational database performance, particularly MySQL
and Hadoop was gathered through the literature survey. By read textbooks, reviewing academic
journals and research papers, I founded a gap in the performance of relational database compare to
the non–relational.
2. Determine research topic
Research topic was derived from the understanding of query processing in MySQL and Hadoop, the
database performance issues, performance tuning and the importance of database performance.
Thus, it was decided to develop a comparative analysis to observe the effectiveness of the
performance of MySQL (non cluster) and Hadoop in structured and unstructured dataset (Rosalia,
2015). Furthermore, the analysis included a comparison between those two platforms in two
variance of data size.
3. Define research approach
A deductive reasoning was applied in a controlled experiment to verify the theory: In read and write
operation, MySQL has a better performance compare to Hadoop in structured dataset, while Hadoop
has a better performance compare to MySQL in unstructured dataset (Rosalia,

The reliability of compensatory health beliefs and the effect it has on alcohol consumption
Abstract
Aim
The aim of the study was to investigate whether reading government guidelines on alcohol
consumption would affect an individual's intentions to drink within the guidelines or not. The study
is also focused on investigating the reliability of alcohol specific compensatory health belief scale
using test–retest and internal consistency measures.
Introduction
There has been a lot of recent research into compensatory health beliefs, in particular what activates
these beliefs. Compensatory health beliefs are beliefs that a person activates as compensation after
engaging in unhealthy behaviours. An example of this is someone believing that they can have a
piece of cake as they are going to the gym later. They understand that the cake is unhealthy but try
and compensate for that by doing something healthy to counteract it. This study focuses on
compensatory health beliefs surrounding binge drinking in the UK. Binge drinking has become a
serious problem in the UK, in 2012–13, there were an estimated 1,008,850 admissions related to
alcohol consumption where an alcohol–related disease, injury or condition was the primary reason
for hospital admission or a secondary diagnosis. (2014, May 29). Statistics on Alcohol – England,

Lund Research Ltd (2012) described informed consent as the participant's understanding that they
are taking part in research and what the research requires of them. Global Health Research (2000)
revealed that informed consent is described in the Belmont Report as allowing for the confirmation
of autonomy among all research participants. It is further said that 'informed consent is not just a
legal requirement or document to be signed but it is a communication process between the
researcher and the participant that starts before the research is initiated and continues throughout the
study.
Where possible, participants should be informed about the nature of the study and all the aspect of
the research that are likely to affect their willingness to become participants (Macaskill, 2008). The
information may include the purpose of the research, the expected duration, the methods being used,
the possible outcomes of the research, as well as associated demands, any prospective research
benefits, incentives for participation, discomforts, inconveniences, risks that the participants may
face and the person to be contacted with questions (Macaskill, 2008 and Smith, 2003). However, it
is not possible to know the exact information the participants may want to know about the research,
but the researcher should not leave out any information that would influence whether consent would
be granted.

Personal Note On Leadership And Leadership
1.0 Introduction
All individual has some dreams and goals for his/her betterment, improvement or successful future.
But, unfortunately, only having ideas and objectives is not sufficient. We need to take practical
steps, make a change, and works to get them in a better way, and these measures and actions
demand a different kind of knowledge, skills and talent to become successful. After my encounter
with the module, I was able to make some personal change. This module has changed my views,
even my philosophy of life being a leader and how to manage change.

The model has three distinct stages. The first phase is called endings. I had to let go of the way I
waste my time on irrelevant things that have affected me in the past. For example during my MSc
degree, I spent a lot of time that almost cost me meeting up with the deadline that would have
affected my result. During this process, I experienced mixed emotions as I was very frustrated
because I won 't be able to do things at my convenience time anymore. I went through real pain and
gut–wrenching, mainly because I can 't do things at my convenience time anymore. Although, I was
well prepared for managing the change as it 's for my betterment.
The second stage was stressful for me as I experience higher workload with my new system of
working and living my life. I suffered low morale and low productivity on my assignment and
things I do. Finally, the third stage, the new beginning. I was happy to embrace the change and
building on the skills I needed to work successfully in a new way is my priority. I saw signs of high
energy in things I do e.g. not getting stressed up at the end of day, I become more efficient at setting
and achieving priorities and objectives and was able to learn more about my strengths and weakness.
Making this changes has benefited my life as it 's given me extra time to spend with my family,
spend time on things I enjoyed, devote the hour of my education and work. I learned how to

Examples Of Prejudicial Language In Hip Hop
Prejean 1 Louis Prejean Joseph Lejuine English 102 17 October 2017 Prejudicial language in hip
hop: How explicit lyrics can lead a movement Hip hop is a genre of music that has developed a
culture of its own. Artists treat the process of creating a hip hop song as a form of art. The culture
began with breaking in 1925 when Earl Tucker performed at The Cotton Club and his moves
inspired one aspect of hip hop culture. It progressed into the music element when Thomas Wong
blasted American records with his sound system. The culture known as "hip hop" was first coined by
DJ Lovebug Starski four years after The Last Poets formed their group and combined jazz with
spoken word. Hip hop started to become popular when Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" became
the first hip hop song to hit the Billboard charts at 36. February 14, 1981 marked another milestone
for the culture when The Funky 4 became the first hip hop group to perform on national television.
They performed their song "That's the Joint" on NBC's Saturday Night Live. In 1988, the hip hop
group NWA released one of their most infamous songs "F*** Tha Police" to speak out against
police brutality and the injustice people of color face in society. They were the pioneers of using hip
hop to create awareness. Twenty–nine years later the song still holds the same relevance today as it
did then. The strong language utilized by the members of NWA emphasized their frustration. Other

A study by Hariharan M, Wheatley TA, and Price JC (1997) investigated controlled release on two
kinds of carrageenan, lambda carrageenan (Viscarin GP–209) and iota–carrageenan (Gelcarin GP–
379). They analyzed their respective compression capabilities through the use of a Strokes single
punch machine. Yield pressure was calculated at 81.3 Pa for iota carrageenan and 105.2 MPa for
lambda–carrageenan through the use of Heckel plots out of die tablet densities. The results proved
linear. Both carrageenan types yielded near zero–order profiles in drug release tablet formulations.
The tablet compression pressures had little to no effect on the profiles from 70 to 175 MPa. It was
found out that while drug loading increased from 5% to 20%, the exponent of diffusion decreased
from 1.056 to 0.678. From zero–order release, the breakup of tablets during the dissolution and
departure were the result of 30% drug loading. To predict the time for 50% release as a function of
the concentration of both types of carrageenan, the researchers used multiple regression analysis,
which was also used for microcrystalline cellulose, a third filler material used in the setup. They
concluded that the observed values and the predicted values of the research were in good agreement
and the R2 for the final cubic model was 0.9984. (Hariharan M, Wheatley TA, & Price JC., 1997)

The Factors Of Brand Loyalty
Chapeter1 Introduction
1.1 Background
As a company, customer mentality is important for them to affect the volume of business. Brand
loyalty is one of related issues of customer purchasing choices. FOONG YEE and YAHYAH (2008)
stated that many companies, especially those in the sportswear industry try to enhance brand loyalty
among their customers.
Nowadays, public can notice that there are several companies have a big marketing share in the
world obviously, such as Nike, Adidas, Puma etc. These brands seem dominated the sportswear
market and earned the favor of consumers. In contrary, the competitiveness of small companies is
low. Their scale is not big enough to compare with renowned brand, those companies are
insufficient and being exploited indirectly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those factors were influenced consumers' brand loyalty towards certain sportswear brands.
2.3.1 Brand Name There are many unfamiliar brand names and alternatives available in the market,
but consumers may prefer to trust major famous brand names. Famous brand names can disseminate
product benefits and lead to higher recall of advertised benefits than non–famous brand names
(Keller, 2003). This is important for brands, which have only minor physical differences and
consumed in a social setting where the brand can create a visible image about the consumer itself.
2.3.2 Price According to Cadogan and Foster (2000), price is probably the most important
consideration for the average consumers. Price serves as the stronger loyalty driver. In addition,
consumers' satisfaction can be built by comparing price with perceived costs and values. Consumers
with high brand loyalty are willing to pay a premium price for their favored brand, if the perceived
value of the product are greater than cost.

A Review On Coaching And Mentoring
Text Purpose
This book is a comprehensive review of coaching and mentoring and how it can be implemented in
a variety of settings and for multiple purposes. It is evidenced based and requires the reader to think
differently about coaching and mentoring. The authors go beyond the research in challenging the
reader to pay attention to the wider implications of coaching and mentoring. In the second part of
the book, there are strategies to overcome and embrace influences that can affect the coaching and
mentoring process. This book is ideal for anyone wanting the research behind coaching and

Part Two consists of the regulatory and practice issues found in coaching and mentoring. A thorough
review of the influence of power, the development and learning networks, the use of technology, and
the organizational issues such as purpose and goal orientation in coaching and mentoring are
developed throughout this section. Part Three focuses on the practice of supervision and standards
while exploring some of the contemporary diversity issues facing coaching and mentoring. Part Four
brings together all the above topics and moves toward a theory of coaching and mentoring. This
section concludes with a review of the emerging concerns from coaching and mentoring.
The authors point out that the history of mentoring is extensive and began with a more mature and
experienced person engaging in a relationship with a less experienced person. The central purpose of
both coaching and mentoring is to transfer specific knowledge and skills from one to the other with
the intent of fostering independence (Garvey, Stokes, & Megginson, 2014). Garvey et al., (2014)
distinguish the difference between coaching and mentoring. According to the authors, coaching is
the act of facilitating and mentoring is the practice of giving advice and expert recommendations
(Garvey et al., 2014). The authors believe that coaches listen, ask questions, and enable mentees to
discover for themselves what is right for them, whereas mentors talk about their personal experience

To summarize, there have been times throughout journalistic history when deception and taking
sides was acceptable, but objectivity and responsibility were largely considered to be professional
standards as we entered the 21st century.
Deontology and Utilitarianism
Of the many methods for applying ethical theories to war reporting, I narrowed the choice down to
Deontology and Utilitarianism as referenced in the introduction.
Deontology involves applying a universal set of principles (Jordin 2009, p. 15)
". . . which makes the duty or the obligations we owe other human beings the fundamental principle
of ethics." Doing our duty is not based on a particular set of circumstances. Since acts are judged
only by their consequences, the means justify the ends.
Utilitarianism is defined by the consequences of actions, not the act's moral or intrinsic value. Jordin
(2009, p. 17) states, "Where deontological theories thus talk more in terms about what is right,
consequentialist theories are more concerned with the good." Moral worth is determined by its
ability to produce the most amount of good for the greatest number. Here, the ends justify the
means.
How can these two standards help answer our ethical dilemma? We can answer this question by
examining a few cases from the current Iraq conflict and others.

Atmospheric Cues in Retail Stores: Their Effect on the Consumer's Hedonic Retail Experience
Introduction Retailers are finding it more and more difficult to differentiate themselves from their
competition, specifically based on the four Ps of marketing; product, place, price and promotion.
They have been forced to inquire about diverse and distinctive atmospheric cues, in order to attract
and maintain customers and their loyalty. According to (Morrison, 2001), elements such as colour,
lighting, layout, and display features have been considered as having an immediate effect on the
buying decision making process, and focus has moved from in–store product displays toward
elements that excite the senses of shoppers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Relating to this, a study showed that customers spent considerably less time in stores with loud
music compared to soft. Relating to restaurants, diners stayed longer and consumed more alcoholic
beverages when slow tempo music was playing in the background compared to fast tempo. (Alpert,
Judy and Alpert, Mark, 1989). Of course this depends on the type of stores people are shopping at,
this may be true for superstores, but stores like Nike acquire a different type of customer and are in
need of a different type of atmosphere, which is explained in the following paragraph. Also if a
restaurant were targeted more towards a younger crowd, then a more upbeat genre of music would
be appropriate in order to influence the customers to stay longer and buy more alcoholic beverages.
A study was done through face–to–face interviews and in–store observation with sales associates
and managers, and out–of–store with shoppers. This study was completed to provide greater insight
about the relation between music and retail branding (Morrison, 2001). The first was NikeTown: the
music in the store was high on energy, vibrant, proactive and uplifting, obviously creating a boost in
store environment and attracting younger urban customers. The current music is friendlier and more
inviting compared to the old tennis ball bouncing or birds chirping. This audio atmosphere
differentiates Nike from competitors and supports the brand. In fact interest from customers has led

Spectrophotometry : Results And Relevance
Spectrophotometry: Results and Relevance in the World
Gretchen Riker
General Biology Lab, Section 40057 (PM)
Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015 Introduction:
"Spectrophotometry is a method to measure how much a chemical substance absorbs light by
measuring the intensity of light as a beam of light passes through sample solution" ( ChemWiki).
Many chemists and biologists use the principles of spectrophotometry in everyday experiments to
provide results and insight into what they are presently studying. Created in 1941, the very first
spectrophotometer was called the Beckman DU UV–Vis, and was totally affordable. Despite being
manual, many scientists quickly saw its meticulous scanning of both visible and ultraviolet light,
and purchased one of their own. (Blauch, 2000)
In order to fully understand what spectrophotometry is, the understanding of electromagnetic energy
and the electromagnetic spectrum must come first. Electromagnetic energy is the energy that is
released from a specific object, and consists of small particles, called photons, that travel in waves.
The distance between two waves is referred to as a wavelength. Wavelengths are measured in
nanometers (nm). A specific form of electromagnetic energy (EM) is light. Circling back to
spectrophotometry, light is the energy source used to power the spectrophotometer, the instrument
used to complete spectrophotometry. (Kelly, 2013)
The electromagnetic spectrum is the range of EM, and its relationship to the amount of

Business Management And The Future Business Model
Introduction
Since the beginning of the twentieth century has seen a growing interest in entrepreneurial activities
and to the characteristics of governance models. This news is not surprising, since many areas of
human activity understand that when using the correct scientific approach to the organization of the
production process can be achieved the highest productivity. A number of key issues arise from the
statement. For instance, entrepreneurship despite its relatively short period of time has passed a long
way of evolution from a rather banal management practices to modern and innovative technologies
and methods of business management. Business management can be considered a system of
economic analysis of the company. Therefore, the strategy of operation and development of any
enterprise is impossible without competent use of principles, methods, forms and techniques of
governance. Creation and organization of ideas are the main factors affecting the quality and
viability of the future business model. Thus, business management is a scientific approach based on
the analysis of data to achieve the goal by applying the rational use of material and labor resources
of the enterprise. This review will show the most interesting moments connected with business
management, and we will try to understand the two most common methods of management.

reference to connectivity has dramatically increased throughout the globe in economics and cultural

One establishment that most individuals are familiar with is Moe's Southwest Grill. Moe's is an
example of a food chain restaurant that follows the control characteristic of McDonaldization. Just
consider all the times you walked into Moe's and all the employees shouted "Welcome to Moe's!" in

pride in their job or are they hollering it apathetically because they are clearly just following a
corporate script. My guess would be they are plainly following a corporate script, which relates
directly to a McDonaldized style. Mentioned by Todd Schoeplfin in his article, Living in a
McDonalized World, he states that during his proposal he researched the company's website and
found a graphic that read "Welcome to Moe's, where size matters." According to Schophlin, he was

historical heritage, which will become very inspirational through designing while here. Barcelona is
known for its quirkiness, cool character and cosmopolitan as a city but also known for its historical

are: Sagrada Familia – "The expiatory church of La Sagrada Família is a work on a grand scale
which was begun on 19 March 1882 from a project by the diocesan architect Francisco de Paula del
Villar (1828–1901). At the end of 1883 Gaudi was commissioned to carry on the works, a task that
he did not abandon until his death in 1926. Since then different architects have continued the work
after his original idea." (Sagrada Familia 2015) This is a fantastic piece of on going architecture and
the interior lives up to the exterior as well. It basically shows what Barcelona if as a city. Having

competencies, and core competencies are not clearly defined. We have found that only the resource
itself is defined with a wide range of meanings. On one hand, resources are defined as "anything
which could be thought of as a strength or weakness of a firm" [9]. This "anything" may include
physical resources (e.g., raw materials, equipment, financial endowment, etc.), human resources
(e.g., training, experience, skills, etc.), as well as organizational resources (e.g., firm image, process,
routines, etc.) [4], [14]. Note that with this definition, capabilities are considered as part of resource.
On the other hand, capabilities are not part of resource because of their dynamic "doing" nature.
Many authors argue that capabilities are the result of resource deployment and organizational
processes. Capabilities use resources and, therefore, are more dynamic and complex entity and
should be treated independent to resources [15]. We feel more comfortable with Grant [5] definition
who argues: "Resources are inputs into the

Sexism In Rap Music
Sexism in rap music When sexism first came to thought there was this idea that women were worth
less than men. Women had little to no rights to call their own, they were often viewed as the wife
and mother who takes care of their children and husband who she feeds , does laundry , and cleans
right after. On the other hand there are men who work and provide money to pay for bills and is the
head of the family. It wasn't until the 19th century when women decided to start campaigns for
women to have more jobs available to them and an increase of salary because females seemed lesser
than men, and also had an influence on women to start movements to put an end to prostitution and
sexual violence. Although sexism developed since then, there is much to be done because theres
discrimination roaming everywhere such as music. It is common today to believe that music can be
harmful, although many believe it does no harm at all and actually influences people for good.
Sexism has been highly presented in today's rap music and videos , offending both genders in
aggressive and provocative ways, It has been used to discriminate others based on their sex . Sexism
in youth culture is common; however, it reaches points that we are yet not prepared to handle
without ending up with consequences. Women face many challenges daily, and sometimes its too
difficult to handle and we just need break and listen to music. There is one problem though, sexism
is also in music.

The Importance Of Hadoop Within The Context Of The Assignment
Introduction
The main purpose of this report is to provide a critical review of the processes and own experiences
of Hadoop within the context of the assignment which was given to us. The review concentrates on
the discussion and evaluation of the overall steps followed during the progress of the project and the
reasons for which we have chosen these particular steps. It also draws attention at the main points
that were accomplished, both with respect to individual, and with respect to the group 's
perspectives. Finally, it concentrates on the project 's progress in terms of changes for a future
implementation.

Project management
To start with, project management could be defined as the process that companies need to carry off
in order to maximise the shareholders ' value. On the other hand, in current life individuals sign
projects all the time, of course not on a professional level, in a sense that they define objectives and
work on the processes to benefit in their lives. Pritchard & Ashwood's (2007) emphasize the
individual's ability to choose from alternative actions in order to satisfy their needs. It is important,
however, to mention that effective projects have an effective design as well as an effective team.
All in all, and taken from Burke (2003) framework, we could divide the project life cycle into four
phases:
Concept phase
Design phase
Implementation phase
Commissioning phase
This framework can then be used for

In present era, Information systems existence is unavoidable in all working environment.
Information system is globally recognized & widely accepted as a basic necessity for running
successful business. Kim et.al (2007), Information Technology plays an important business tool in
modern era to attain competitive advantage for the organization as well as improving employee's
efficiency and productivity. Enterprise Resource Planning system shortly known as ERP system is
one of the primary information systems used in various industries to run their business operations.
ERP attained various industry attentions due to its cross functional integration, business process
reengineering, real time reporting and many other useful functionalities and capabilities. Initially,
ERP system was predominantly implemented in large enterprises due to its high implementation
cost and implementation time consuming. For the past few decades, SME's businesses environment

My Tooth Fairy Speech
Mommy, how do I kill the tooth fairy?
I hated the tooth fairy. Okay, I still hate the tooth fairy. But I mean come on! A small, winged person
comes into your room while you're sleeping and exchanges a piece of your body for money. I'm
pretty sure that's only legal in Nevada.
When I first discovered this mythical creature, I was four, and had a newly loose tooth.
"The tooth fairy will be coming tonight," my mother said.
Girl was lying to me; I did not believe one word that lying witch uttered.
So... I did what any normal four year old would do:
I broke into my parent's' wallet and marked all of their dollar bills with a highlighter.
And guess what? I woke up with highlighted bill under my pillow. Who woulda thunk?
I ran into my parents bedroom screaming "I HAVE PROOF, I HAVE PROOF! THE TOOTH FAIRY
IS FAKE AND YOU LIED TO ME!"
And I was right... and broke; never got another cent from the tooth fairy.
Yet, that fateful day, I learned the most important word of my life; my mother looked at me with a
whimsical glance and said, "My curious boy."
I don't know why she talks like that.
But that word, curious, stuck with me. Curiosity instigates change, governs the governors. Yet, our
curiosity is fading, and the consequences are evident. From indifference to stagnation, we aren't
asking questions.
That's just it, isn't it? To question is to know, and knowledge is a prerequisite to informed decision
making.
Therefore, it is necessary to examine our fading curiosity and its effects.

chance to succeed by giving them different tasks to suit their intellectual ability. It was evident to me
that when children felt a task was achievable, they stayed focused and succeeded. In turn, this was
extremely confidence–boosting. She had such a positive attitude towards her work and the children,
which provided a positive learning environment.
I have a passion for education and believe that teaching children at a primary level is extremely
rewarding as it is the initial step in transforming the lives of young people to prepare them for high

A Summary Of La Ville Lumiere
La Ville Lumiere
The dark specter of the cool night spread across the sky, while the alluring orange color of the sunset
disappeared as nonchalantly as it came. A mixed medley of harmonious sounds streamed through
the night from the violins. Music echoed from every street corner, awakening life, springing off the
Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame and floating through the Arc de Triomphe. Soon, the people, scattered
like trees in a desolate country, grew into a huge crowd like a lush green woodland. Noises of people
shrilling, teenagers laughing and adults murmuring transpired from the crowd. The lads held their
demoiselles' hands lost in their world of immortal love. Eventually, everyone slipped into their
dancing shoes. The aromas rose from the hot sizzling gourmet cuisine and cigarette smoke to
quickly permeate the air. The streets shone with dazzling lights as bright as daytime, as the
astounding Eiffel Tower took form in its enticing and glowing festive lights of amber, standing in its
own elegance, like a gem on Champ de Mars. 'La Ville Lumiere...' here it is; Paris, the splendid
metropolis, the home of the lovers and the city that speaks the language of love.
Paris is the capital metropolis of France and an absolute destination that strikes everyone's minds

incredibly alive. The visit there is worth it, for what one experiences can't be conveyed through

Nurse Role, Management of Obesity
The role of nurses in the management of Obesity
The case study provided regarding diet and weight management has led me to explore the role of a

The Benefits and Pitfalls of the Internet
Using the internet is becoming popular nowadays since many people spend their time working on it,
but is using the internet beneficial for them? It may have some advantages and disadvantages as
most new technologies do, and some of these advantages and disadvantages can be seen on online
assignment submission, online social networking and online news sites.
Pete Bridge and Rob Appleyard (2005), senior lecturers in radiotherapy and oncology at Sheffield
Hallam University in the UK, compared the way that paper–based assignments are submitted with
the online equivalent within the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in a study. 47 first year
undergraduate radiotherapy physics students were the volunteers, and surveys were used to gather
their submission and receiving feedback experience. The same group of students was required to
compare their online submission perception with another assignment submission, which was a
paper–based assignment. Students were asked to compare the quality of the submission process
based on ease of compilation (Bridge & Appleyard, 2005).
The results indicated some positive and negative sides of using the internet to submit assignments.
88% of the students reported that online assignment submission can help the save time, and many
said they found it financially beneficial. In addition, 93% of students preferred receiving their
feedback online rather than "printed and handed to them" (Bridge & Appleyard, 2005).

Methanol Exposure And Its Effect On The Fertility Of Biota...
Introduction A plant that produces alcohol as the main or by–product sometimes experience failure
or did not properly manage their waste. The wastewater may be released to the water streams nearby
and affecting the environment and human. Some of alcoholic compound that are endangering the
environment is acetone, methanol and n–propanol depending on the concentration. Acetone has a
slight toxicity when exposed to aquatic life and it caused membrane damage, a decrease in size and
decrease in germination of various agricultural and ornamental plants. Methanol may affect animals,
birds and fish, leading to their death. Exposure can also cause low growth rate in plants. Long term
methanol exposure can affect the fertility of biota and affect their appearance or behaviour
("National Pollutant Inventory", 2016). Since alcohol is very volatile it is more practical to detect
the compound using Gas Chromatography (GC) instead of High Performance Liquid
Chromatography. With hydrocarbon it is suitable to use flame–ionisation energy. In this experiment,
GC that was used has the schematic diagram as below: Figure 1: GC schematic diagram. Sheffield
Hallam University (2016) Based on Figure 1, the wastewater sample would be injected onto the
injector port and with high temperature about 200C the wastewater sample would be vaporized and
forced through the capillary column that has a temperature of 87C. Difference in polarity would
determine the retention time of the compound in the GC.

Reflecting back at this I never wanted to do nursing, I feel I only made this decision because it is
what my mother wanted to do this when she was younger. This could relate to Bandura's theory of
social learning, this because even though Bandura believed classical and operate condition
contributed towards social learning, he also believed two other factors effected this, which are
imitation and identification (Learning theories in childhood, Gray,C). This relates to me and my
college degree as I identified myself with my Mother and imitated her dreams and behaviours.
Going into college I went in with a fixed mind set, (Dweck, 1998). This is because I did not really
want to do nursing in the future, felt like I couldn't learn anything, believed I was smart enough to
do it and was also facing some mental problems at the time. At this period of education I did not
attend many of my lessons and I had no motivation to learn. This strongly related to Carr and
Claxton (1995). Claxon (1995) believed you had to be ready, willing, and able to learn and at that
time in my life, I was not. According to Perkins et al (1995) Dispositions are based in the belief
systems, values and attitudes as equally as it is in your cognitive structure . As well as this
disposition is linked with the idea of our possible selves and at the time I was not mentally in the
right place, meaning this effected what my idea of myself actually was. To link this in with my
college experience, at the time my idea of my self was that I "was worthless" therefore I believed I
was worthless and did not believe I could make it through college. This could have also related back
to my experiences in primary school ( mentioned in the essay earlier) due to not feeling good
enough. This could have contributed to me later dropping out. This could be because I had already
have formed these beliefs and values prior to coming to

Social Causes Of Youth Homelessness
On this essay, I am going to write about youth homelessness the causes of this phenomenon in this
country, and why it remains an issue very complex to resolve. There are a number of causes for
youth homelessness but we can divide them into two big groups: Causes derived from social
policies such as lack of funding or cuts to housing benefit; and causes derived from personal
circumstances, for example, a family breakdown.
Both renting and owing a home are challenging options for young people for many reasons
including lack of skills and money; that in some occasions translate not having somewhere to stay.
On the social causes for homelessness we find that one of the biggest issues is the shortage of
housing, the parliament estimates the need for additional housing in England at between 232,000 to
300,000 new units per year, a level not reached since the late 1970s and two to three times current
supply. Even though this does not only affect young people in my opinion young people are one of
the most disadvantaged because the lack of supply makes housing very expensive and under 25's get
paid less minimum wage so they can't afford to pay a house deposit. Another important social policy
cause is that since April 2017 young people aged 16–21(with some exemptions) will not be entitled
to apply for housing benefit a move made by the government to "prevent young people slipping into
a life of benefits" (HM treasury 2015). However, this new policy in my point of view just makes the

Facebook 's Influence On Social Networking
An obvious slogan on the homepage to the popular social networking website Facebook is the
phrase "Connect with friends and the world you on Facebook" (Facebook n.p). The idea of needing
social networking sites to "connect" with everyone else one knows or may meet has become
embedded in American culture throughout recent years, especially among the teenage population.
Facebook is easily the most popular sites, to the point where it would be considered unusual for
someone attending high school to not have a profile on the site. However, does the Facebook
actually create a stronger connection between people, or does it simply create the illusion of a
healthy social life, while really creating distance a distance between them? According to the Will
Reader, a researcher who works at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, people generally have
five people they would consider their close friend, in striking contrast to the vast amounts they may
have on Facebook (Szumski & Karson 26). This finding seems to suggest that one's amount of
Facebook reflects how popular one wishes to appear online more than how healthy one's friendship
truly are. Bill Keller, an executive for the magazine The New York Times, asserts that constant
usage of Facebook allows user to potentially "feel like [they] have a meaningful social life, when in
reality, [they are missing] something" (26). Indeed, Facebook can function as a placebo for some
users in the place of genuine, healthy social life. Users with

Hidden Homelessness, A Study By Sheffield Hallam...
INTRODUCTION TO THE RESEARCH QUESTION
Hidden Homelessness, a study by Sheffield Hallam University for Crisis, surveyed more than 400
rough sleepers revealing more than 1/5th of those interviewed had committed an imprisonable
offence in order to get off the streets for the night (THE GUARDIAN 2010).
Niven and Stewart 's 2005 research indicates 30% of people released from prison are homeless and
offenders who are homeless prior to custody had one–year reconviction of 79% compared with 47%
for those in accommodation (MOJ 2010).
Williams et al (2012) for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), indicated three–fifths (60%) of prisoners
believed having a place to live was important in preventing future reoffending. The Prison Reform
Trust, reported in 2013 that 68% of prisoners considered being in employment on release was an
important factor in reducing reoffending.
The aim of this research is to establish how and why homeless people come to find themselves in
prison and factors that may influence their likelihood of reoffending in future. Furthermore it
questions whether homeless offenders are being adequately supported for their release whilst in
prison by housing, health, probation, welfare and education services. It will consider previous
empirical research in the field from Salem et al (2013) as well as McFarland and Blair (1995) and
Pleace (2013). It will establish whether there is a disconnect between services commissioned by
stakeholders from third party and voluntary

How Healthcare Policy Influences The Working Of The...
Developing Collaborative Practice BANS Sept 12 Interprofessional Working and Healthcare Policy
Charlotte Walker 19010944 3,187 words 22/06/2015 This essay will explore how healthcare policy
influences interproferssional working in the healthcare sector. I will reflect upon a practice based
situation related to a service user and discuss how this is linked to the policy 'Our health, our care,
our say ' (Department of Health, 2006). I will also provide a self–assessment of my current level of
development using the Interprofessional Capability Framework. 'Our health, our care, our say ' is a
policy published by the Department of Health in 2006 which aims to provide a more effective health
and social care service in the community outside of hospital. It 's main aims are to improve
community based care, enable health independence and well–being, provide better access to general
practice and community services, and greater support for people with long–term health conditions. It
sets out the government 's vision for "high quality support meeting people 's aspirations for
independence and greater control over their lives, making service flexible and responsive to
individual needs. ' ' This policy really highlights the need for an improved, person centred healthcare
service in the community, bringing together different interprofessional teams to provide quality care
for the service user. The practice based situation I will discuss revolves around Mary, a

Does Societal Sexualization Promote Promiscuity?
In our contemporary society, the influence of sex has become increasingly mainstream. Through the
consternations and clashing of conservatism and liberalism, the question on hand is ultimately: Does
societal sexualization promote promiscuity or liberalism? The rise of the underlying presence of
sexual indications in the media in society parallels sex to attraction, and such implications
indoctrinate today's society with the acceptance and tolerance of liberal and suggestive depictions of
young people. As Doctor Feona Attwood, Principal Lecturer in Communication at the Sheffield
Hallam University notes, the singular notion of sex has "become an object of fascination in art, film,
television, and the press."1 The increasing movements promoting ... Show more content on

The trend of cosmetic surgery, even moreso prominent in Asian countries, such as South Korea, has
its ties on its depiction of beauty in media. Having standards even more extreme in terms of weight,
petite–ness, skinny waist, and having a slimmer chin, nose, bigger breasts, and longer legs,
compared to North America is an important factor in how the highly stereotyped living plastic dolls
is evident in South Korea. The extremity of the desire to meet beauty standards has its risks,
however. Breast implants have its risks, but an increasing amount of young teenagers are willing to
take the risk. As the FDA noted, anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a type of rare cancer, not associated
with breast cancer, is directly correlated with breast implants. In addition, "All of the information to

Nursing Midwifes

  • 1. Nursing Midwifes Hundreds of students studying nursing, midwifery and other medical based degrees in Sheffield have shown outrage towards the proposal to remove bursaries and replace them with loans over the coming academic years. Plans to remove NHS bursaries granted to student's in the medicinal field were announced under George Osbourne's Comprehensive Spending Review last November. The Health Education England's education and training budget of £5bn has been highlighted by the Government as part of the Chancellors proposal to introduce more spending cuts. Currently, student nurses and midwives receive an annual bursary from the NHS whilst they study – which they do not have to pay back. They also do not have to pay tuition fees. At the moment, student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With hospitals and clinics struggling to accommodate students at present, questions have been posed that the proposed extra 10,000 nurses George Osbourne claims by 2020 will be trained is highly unlikely. First year student midwife at Sheffield Hallam University, Niamh O'loghlen, commented: "They're going to get less people applying to health care jobs when they've got a shortage of them and need as many nurses, midwives and doctors as they can." Her statement is backed by the Royal College of Nursing who believe that getting rid of bursaries would mean talented would–be nurses and midwives would choose different career paths. Student midwife Ms O'loghlen also said: "They won't get people applying who have a real passion for the nursing and midwifery fields. But those who have money and can afford to live without a bursary." At the present moment, over half of those applying to study nursing are turned away, therefore showing there are no shortages in those eager to work in the profession. But the bursary cuts could see the number of those applying fall by August 2017 in which the plans are proposed to take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(2003), the term method in the entire research process or project can be considered as tool or technique which help researcher obtain, collect and analyze data or different types of information. To be more specific, Saundra et al. (2003) point out that in order to fulfill different research projects and objectives, couples of methods have to be properly utilized, in this case, these approaches usually include questionnaire, observation and interviews. What is the nature of research? Saundra et al. (2003) argued that the genuine research should be defined as a project that the outcomes or objectives can be obtained and ... The quantitative data is usually collected from number or numerical data such as ration or frequency rate, on the contrary, the qualitative data is acquired from non–standardized recording. The quantitative data can be visualized through different graphics such as table, diagram. The qualitative data, however can be demonstrated through statement and conceptualization. Introduction and review of research project and research process The research project is about the use the catering facility in catering outlets in city campus of SHU. In order to achieve the research task and objectives, the researcher was mainly using three research methods–observation, interview and questionnaire in terms of collecting relevant data and statistics. Observation The researcher chose the use of catering facility as the observation topic and set the observation place at one of catering outlet which is in the first floor of Furnival Building and a detailed record of the entire observation was made, The time span of this observation is about 15 minute and the time when this observation was undertaken is in afternoon. The final data that derived from observation is quantitative–based data and more concerned with the frequency of each action and behavior. According to Saunders et al. Research Process This research adopted the sequential process model, therefore the research was executed in a fixed and continuous sequences (Dawson, 2009). 1. Identify the wider knowledge The wider insight about relational and non–relational database performance, particularly MySQL and Hadoop was gathered through the literature survey. By read textbooks, reviewing academic journals and research papers, I founded a gap in the performance of relational database compare to the non–relational. 2. Determine research topic Research topic was derived from the understanding of query processing in MySQL and Hadoop, the database performance issues, performance tuning and the importance of database performance. Thus, it was decided to develop a comparative analysis to observe the effectiveness of the performance of MySQL (non cluster) and Hadoop in structured and unstructured dataset (Rosalia, 2015). Furthermore, the analysis included a comparison between those two platforms in two variance of data size. 3. Define research approach A deductive reasoning was applied in a controlled experiment to verify the theory: In read and write operation, MySQL has a better performance compare to Hadoop in structured dataset, while Hadoop has a better performance compare to MySQL in unstructured dataset (Rosalia, ... The reliability of compensatory health beliefs and the effect it has on alcohol consumption Abstract Aim The aim of the study was to investigate whether reading government guidelines on alcohol consumption would affect an individual's intentions to drink within the guidelines or not. The study is also focused on investigating the reliability of alcohol specific compensatory health belief scale using test–retest and internal consistency measures. Introduction There has been a lot of recent research into compensatory health beliefs, in particular what activates these beliefs. Compensatory health beliefs are beliefs that a person activates as compensation after engaging in unhealthy behaviours. An example of this is someone believing that they can have a piece of cake as they are going to the gym later. They understand that the cake is unhealthy but try and compensate for that by doing something healthy to counteract it. This study focuses on compensatory health beliefs surrounding binge drinking in the UK. Binge drinking has become a serious problem in the UK, in 2012–13, there were an estimated 1,008,850 admissions related to alcohol consumption where an alcohol–related disease, injury or condition was the primary reason for hospital admission or a secondary diagnosis. The first phase is called endings. I had to let go of the way I waste my time on irrelevant things that have affected me in the past. For example during my MSc degree, I spent a lot of time that almost cost me meeting up with the deadline that would have affected my result. During this process, I experienced mixed emotions as I was very frustrated because I won 't be able to do things at my convenience time anymore. I went through real pain and gut–wrenching, mainly because I can 't do things at my convenience time anymore. Although, I was well prepared for managing the change as it 's for my betterment. The second stage was stressful for me as I experience higher workload with my new system of working and living my life. I suffered low morale and low productivity on my assignment and things I do. Finally, the third stage, the new beginning. I was happy to embrace the change and building on the skills I needed to work successfully in a new way is my priority. I saw signs of high energy in things I do e.g. not getting stressed up at the end of day, I become more efficient at setting and achieving priorities and objectives and was able to learn more about my strengths and weakness. Making this changes has benefited my life as it 's given me extra time to spend with my family, spend time on things I enjoyed, devote the hour of my education and work. • 15. Examples Of Prejudicial Language In Hip Hop Prejean 1 Louis Prejean Joseph Lejuine English 102 17 October 2017 Prejudicial language in hip hop: How explicit lyrics can lead a movement Hip hop is a genre of music that has developed a culture of its own. Artists treat the process of creating a hip hop song as a form of art. The culture began with breaking in 1925 when Earl Tucker performed at The Cotton Club and his moves inspired one aspect of hip hop culture. It progressed into the music element when Thomas Wong blasted American records with his sound system. The culture known as "hip hop" was first coined by DJ Lovebug Starski four years after The Last Poets formed their group and combined jazz with spoken word. Hip hop started to become popular when Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" became the first hip hop song to hit the Billboard charts at 36. February 14, 1981 marked another milestone for the culture when The Funky 4 became the first hip hop group to perform on national television. They performed their song "That's the Joint" on NBC's Saturday Night Live. In 1988, the hip hop group NWA released one of their most infamous songs "F*** Tha Police" to speak out against police brutality and the injustice people of color face in society. They were the pioneers of using hip hop to create awareness. Twenty–nine years later the song still holds the same relevance today as it did then. The strong language utilized by the members of NWA emphasized their frustration. Other hip–hop artists, whether from the past like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A study by Hariharan M, Wheatley TA, and Price JC (1997) investigated controlled release on two kinds of carrageenan, lambda carrageenan (Viscarin GP–209) and iota–carrageenan (Gelcarin GP– 379). They analyzed their respective compression capabilities through the use of a Strokes single punch machine. Yield pressure was calculated at 81.3 Pa for iota carrageenan and 105.2 MPa for lambda–carrageenan through the use of Heckel plots out of die tablet densities. The results proved linear. Both carrageenan types yielded near zero–order profiles in drug release tablet formulations. The tablet compression pressures had little to no effect on the profiles from 70 to 175 MPa. It was found out that while drug loading increased from 5% to 20%, the exponent of diffusion decreased from 1.056 to 0.678. From zero–order release, the breakup of tablets during the dissolution and departure were the result of 30% drug loading. To predict the time for 50% release as a function of the concentration of both types of carrageenan, the researchers used multiple regression analysis, which was also used for microcrystalline cellulose, a third filler material used in the setup. They concluded that the observed values and the predicted values of the research were in good agreement and the R2 for the final cubic model was 0.9984. Brand loyalty is one of related issues of customer purchasing choices. FOONG YEE and YAHYAH (2008) stated that many companies, especially those in the sportswear industry try to enhance brand loyalty among their customers. Nowadays, public can notice that there are several companies have a big marketing share in the world obviously, such as Nike, Adidas, Puma etc. These brands seem dominated the sportswear market and earned the favor of consumers. In contrary, the competitiveness of small companies is low. Their scale is not big enough to compare with renowned brand, those companies are insufficient and being exploited indirectly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those factors were influenced consumers' brand loyalty towards certain sportswear brands. 2.3.1 Brand Name There are many unfamiliar brand names and alternatives available in the market, but consumers may prefer to trust major famous brand names. Famous brand names can disseminate product benefits and lead to higher recall of advertised benefits than non–famous brand names (Keller, 2003). This is important for brands, which have only minor physical differences and consumed in a social setting where the brand can create a visible image about the consumer itself. 2.3.2 Price According to Cadogan and Foster (2000), price is probably the most important consideration for the average consumers. Price serves as the stronger loyalty driver. In addition, consumers' satisfaction can be built by comparing price with perceived costs and values. Consumers with high brand loyalty are willing to pay a premium price for their favored brand, if the perceived value of the product are greater than cost. 2.3.3 Product ... Part Two consists of the regulatory and practice issues found in coaching and mentoring. A thorough review of the influence of power, the development and learning networks, the use of technology, and the organizational issues such as purpose and goal orientation in coaching and mentoring are developed throughout this section. Part Three focuses on the practice of supervision and standards while exploring some of the contemporary diversity issues facing coaching and mentoring. Part Four brings together all the above topics and moves toward a theory of coaching and mentoring. This section concludes with a review of the emerging concerns from coaching and mentoring. The authors point out that the history of mentoring is extensive and began with a more mature and experienced person engaging in a relationship with a less experienced person. The central purpose of both coaching and mentoring is to transfer specific knowledge and skills from one to the other with the intent of fostering independence (Garvey, Stokes, & Megginson, 2014). Garvey et al., (2014) distinguish the difference between coaching and mentoring. According to the authors, coaching is the act of facilitating and mentoring is the practice of giving advice and expert recommendations (Garvey et al., 2014). The authors believe that coaches listen, ask questions, and enable mentees to discover for themselves what is right for them, whereas mentors talk about their personal experience assuming it ... Deontology and Utilitarianism Of the many methods for applying ethical theories to war reporting, I narrowed the choice down to Deontology and Utilitarianism as referenced in the introduction.
  • 24. Deontology involves applying a universal set of principles (Jordin 2009, p. 15) ". . . which makes the duty or the obligations we owe other human beings the fundamental principle of ethics." Doing our duty is not based on a particular set of circumstances. Since acts are judged only by their consequences, the means justify the ends. Utilitarianism is defined by the consequences of actions, not the act's moral or intrinsic value. Jordin (2009, p. 17) states, "Where deontological theories thus talk more in terms about what is right, consequentialist theories are more concerned with the good." Moral worth is determined by its ability to produce the most amount of good for the greatest number. Here, the ends justify the means. How can these two standards help answer our ethical dilemma? We can answer this question by examining a few cases from the current Iraq conflict and others. Ethical Dilemma: Should reporters ever leak and/or publish classified information in ... Atmospheric Cues in Retail Stores Atmospheric Cues in Retail Stores: Their Effect on the Consumer's Hedonic Retail Experience Introduction Retailers are finding it more and more difficult to differentiate themselves from their competition, specifically based on the four Ps of marketing; product, place, price and promotion. They have been forced to inquire about diverse and distinctive atmospheric cues, in order to attract and maintain customers and their loyalty. Relating to restaurants, diners stayed longer and consumed more alcoholic beverages when slow tempo music was playing in the background compared to fast tempo. (Alpert, Judy and Alpert, Mark, 1989). Of course this depends on the type of stores people are shopping at, this may be true for superstores, but stores like Nike acquire a different type of customer and are in need of a different type of atmosphere, which is explained in the following paragraph. Also if a restaurant were targeted more towards a younger crowd, then a more upbeat genre of music would be appropriate in order to influence the customers to stay longer and buy more alcoholic beverages. A study was done through face–to–face interviews and in–store observation with sales associates and managers, and out–of–store with shoppers. This study was completed to provide greater insight about the relation between music and retail branding (Morrison, 2001). The first was NikeTown: the music in the store was high on energy, vibrant, proactive and uplifting, obviously creating a boost in store environment and attracting younger urban customers. The current music is friendlier and more inviting compared to the old tennis ball bouncing or birds chirping. This audio atmosphere differentiates Nike from competitors and supports the brand. Spectrophotometry : Results And Relevance Spectrophotometry: Results and Relevance in the World Gretchen Riker General Biology Lab, Section 40057 (PM) Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015 Introduction: "Spectrophotometry is a method to measure how much a chemical substance absorbs light by measuring the intensity of light as a beam of light passes through sample solution" ( ChemWiki). Many chemists and biologists use the principles of spectrophotometry in everyday experiments to provide results and insight into what they are presently studying. Created in 1941, the very first spectrophotometer was called the Beckman DU UV–Vis, and was totally affordable. Despite being manual, many scientists quickly saw its meticulous scanning of both visible and ultraviolet light, and purchased one of their own. (Blauch, 2000) In order to fully understand what spectrophotometry is, the understanding of electromagnetic energy and the electromagnetic spectrum must come first. Electromagnetic energy is the energy that is released from a specific object, and consists of small particles, called photons, that travel in waves. The distance between two waves is referred to as a wavelength. Wavelengths are measured in nanometers (nm). A specific form of electromagnetic energy (EM) is light. Circling back to spectrophotometry, light is the energy source used to power the spectrophotometer, the instrument used to complete spectrophotometry. Over the centuries, globalization in reference to connectivity has dramatically increased throughout the globe in economics and cultural life. Are these employees sounding enthusiastic and genuine because they take pride in their job or are they hollering it apathetically because they are clearly just following a corporate script. My guess would be they are plainly following a corporate script, which relates directly to a McDonaldized style. Mentioned by Todd Schoeplfin in his article, Living in a McDonalized World, he states that during his proposal he researched the company's website and found a graphic that read "Welcome to Moe's, where size matters." According to Schophlin, he was nonplussed by this reason being "bigger is a promise of better" in a McDonalized World (Everyday Sociology Blog, n.d.). The university is located in a very diverse part of the city with a lot of historical heritage, which will become very inspirational through designing while here. Barcelona is known for its quirkiness, cool character and cosmopolitan as a city but also known for its historical and contemporary architecture, local festivals and art museums. The two main sources of inspiration are: Sagrada Familia – "The expiatory church of La Sagrada Família is a work on a grand scale which was begun on 19 March 1882 from a project by the diocesan architect Francisco de Paula del Villar (1828–1901). At the end of 1883 Gaudi was commissioned to carry on the works, a task that he did not abandon until his death in 1926. Since then different architects have continued the work after his original idea." (Sagrada Familia 2015) This is a fantastic piece of on going architecture and the interior lives up to the exterior as well. It basically shows what Barcelona if as a city. Having been here before it has always been a source of inspiration. Esglesia Se Santa Maria – "14th century Catalan Gothic architecture has a strong personality. Particularly outstanding is the sober horizontal– structure of its buildings. CAPABILITY IS FORMED BY THE INTEGRATION OF RESOURCES Table I shows that competitive advantage is gained by the strategic deployment of some resources, capabilities, and/or competencies. Literature review suggests that concepts such as resources, capabilities, competencies, and core competencies are not clearly defined. We have found that only the resource itself is defined with a wide range of meanings. On one hand, resources are defined as "anything which could be thought of as a strength or weakness of a firm" [9]. This "anything" may include physical resources (e.g., raw materials, equipment, financial endowment, etc.), human resources (e.g., training, experience, skills, etc.), as well as organizational resources (e.g., firm image, process, routines, etc.) [4], [14]. Note that with this definition, capabilities are considered as part of resource. On the other hand, capabilities are not part of resource because of their dynamic "doing" nature. Many authors argue that capabilities are the result of resource deployment and organizational processes. Capabilities use resources and, therefore, are more dynamic and complex entity and should be treated independent to resources [15]. • 42. Sexism In Rap Music Sexism in rap music When sexism first came to thought there was this idea that women were worth less than men. Women had little to no rights to call their own, they were often viewed as the wife and mother who takes care of their children and husband who she feeds , does laundry , and cleans right after. On the other hand there are men who work and provide money to pay for bills and is the head of the family. It wasn't until the 19th century when women decided to start campaigns for women to have more jobs available to them and an increase of salary because females seemed lesser than men, and also had an influence on women to start movements to put an end to prostitution and sexual violence. Although sexism developed since then, there is much to be done because theres discrimination roaming everywhere such as music. It is common today to believe that music can be harmful, although many believe it does no harm at all and actually influences people for good. Sexism has been highly presented in today's rap music and videos , offending both genders in aggressive and provocative ways, It has been used to discriminate others based on their sex . Sexism in youth culture is common; however, it reaches points that we are yet not prepared to handle without ending up with consequences. Women face many challenges daily, and sometimes its too difficult to handle and we just need break and listen to music. There is one problem though, sexism is also in music. ... A small, winged person comes into your room while you're sleeping and exchanges a piece of your body for money. I'm pretty sure that's only legal in Nevada. When I first discovered this mythical creature, I was four, and had a newly loose tooth. "The tooth fairy will be coming tonight," my mother said. Girl was lying to me; I did not believe one word that lying witch uttered. So... I did what any normal four year old would do: I broke into my parent's' wallet and marked all of their dollar bills with a highlighter. And guess what? I woke up with highlighted bill under my pillow. Who woulda thunk? I ran into my parents bedroom screaming "I HAVE PROOF, I HAVE PROOF! THE TOOTH FAIRY IS FAKE AND YOU LIED TO ME!" And I was right... and broke; never got another cent from the tooth fairy. Yet, that fateful day, I learned the most important word of my life; my mother looked at me with a whimsical glance and said, "My curious boy." I don't know why she talks like that. But that word, curious, stuck with me. Curiosity instigates change, governs the governors. Yet, our curiosity is fading, and the consequences are evident. From indifference to stagnation, we aren't asking questions. That's just it, isn't it? To question is to know, and knowledge is a prerequisite to informed decision making. • 56. A Summary Of La Ville Lumiere La Ville Lumiere The dark specter of the cool night spread across the sky, while the alluring orange color of the sunset disappeared as nonchalantly as it came. A mixed medley of harmonious sounds streamed through the night from the violins. Music echoed from every street corner, awakening life, springing off the Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame and floating through the Arc de Triomphe. Soon, the people, scattered like trees in a desolate country, grew into a huge crowd like a lush green woodland. Noises of people shrilling, teenagers laughing and adults murmuring transpired from the crowd. The lads held their demoiselles' hands lost in their world of immortal love. Eventually, everyone slipped into their dancing shoes. The aromas rose from the hot sizzling gourmet cuisine and cigarette smoke to quickly permeate the air. The streets shone with dazzling lights as bright as daytime, as the astounding Eiffel Tower took form in its enticing and glowing festive lights of amber, standing in its own elegance, like a gem on Champ de Mars. 'La Ville Lumiere...' here it is; Paris, the splendid metropolis, the home of the lovers and the city that speaks the language of love. Paris is the capital metropolis of France and an absolute destination that strikes everyone's minds when they talk about France. There is no one who could tread the streets of Paris and not feel incredibly alive. The visit there is worth it, for what one experiences can't be conveyed through words! There is a player on ... Nurse Role, Management of Obesity The role of nurses in the management of Obesity The case study provided regarding diet and weight management has led me to explore the role of a nurse specifically during the management of obesity. The investigation aims to determine how a nurse can intervene and control obesity. The research generally looks at the role of the nurse in managing a patient that is clinically classed as obese. Obesity is calculated using BMI measurements (appendix 1). Limitations to this investigation from a personal perspective are that I haven't yet practised as a nurse so I can't use reflection on my own practise as a learning tool. Taking this into consideration I have sourced my information with the use of secondary research methods, thus meaning the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may have some advantages and disadvantages as most new technologies do, and some of these advantages and disadvantages can be seen on online assignment submission, online social networking and online news sites. Pete Bridge and Rob Appleyard (2005), senior lecturers in radiotherapy and oncology at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, compared the way that paper–based assignments are submitted with the online equivalent within the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in a study. 47 first year undergraduate radiotherapy physics students were the volunteers, and surveys were used to gather their submission and receiving feedback experience. The same group of students was required to compare their online submission perception with another assignment submission, which was a paper–based assignment. Students were asked to compare the quality of the submission process based on ease of compilation (Bridge & Appleyard, 2005). The results indicated some positive and negative sides of using the internet to submit assignments. 88% of the students reported that online assignment submission can help the save time, and many said they found it financially beneficial. In addition, 93% of students preferred receiving their feedback online rather than "printed and handed to them" (Bridge & Appleyard, 2005). The main disadvantage students reported by ... • 67. Methanol Exposure And Its Effect On The Fertility Of Biota... Introduction A plant that produces alcohol as the main or by–product sometimes experience failure or did not properly manage their waste. The wastewater may be released to the water streams nearby and affecting the environment and human. Some of alcoholic compound that are endangering the environment is acetone, methanol and n–propanol depending on the concentration. Acetone has a slight toxicity when exposed to aquatic life and it caused membrane damage, a decrease in size and decrease in germination of various agricultural and ornamental plants. Methanol may affect animals, birds and fish, leading to their death. Exposure can also cause low growth rate in plants. Long term methanol exposure can affect the fertility of biota and affect their appearance or behaviour ("National Pollutant Inventory", 2016). Since alcohol is very volatile it is more practical to detect the compound using Gas Chromatography (GC) instead of High Performance Liquid Chromatography. With hydrocarbon it is suitable to use flame–ionisation energy. In this experiment, GC that was used has the schematic diagram as below: Figure 1: GC schematic diagram. Sheffield Hallam University (2016) Based on Figure 1, the wastewater sample would be injected onto the injector port and with high temperature about 200C the wastewater sample would be vaporized and forced through the capillary column that has a temperature of 87C. Difference in polarity would determine the retention time of the compound in the GC. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Learning Disposition And Analysis This first assignment will be explaining my learning disposition and personal experiences of education and learning prior to starting at Sheffield Hallam University. This will focus on my different experiences and memories of education before starting my course, I will also relate any experiences to suitable theories and theorists. One the first entries in my journals and my earliest memories of education was reflecting what my learning style. I have always found it easier to learn from listening and taking my time, rather than jumping into work. At nursery, many of the children would want to go ahead and try out all the activities hands–on, I on the other hand would always be sat waiting for the teacher to explain more and to receive instructions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reflecting back at this I never wanted to do nursing, I feel I only made this decision because it is what my mother wanted to do this when she was younger. This could relate to Bandura's theory of social learning, this because even though Bandura believed classical and operate condition contributed towards social learning, he also believed two other factors effected this, which are imitation and identification (Learning theories in childhood, Gray,C). This relates to me and my college degree as I identified myself with my Mother and imitated her dreams and behaviours. Going into college I went in with a fixed mind set, (Dweck, 1998). This is because I did not really want to do nursing in the future, felt like I couldn't learn anything, believed I was smart enough to do it and was also facing some mental problems at the time. At this period of education I did not attend many of my lessons and I had no motivation to learn. This strongly related to Carr and Claxton (1995). Claxon (1995) believed you had to be ready, willing, and able to learn and at that time in my life, I was not. According to Perkins et al (1995) Dispositions are based in the belief systems, values and attitudes as equally as it is in your cognitive structure . As well as this disposition is linked with the idea of our possible selves and at the time I was not mentally in the right place, meaning this effected what my idea of myself actually was. To link this in with my college experience, at the time my idea of my self was that I "was worthless" therefore I believed I was worthless and did not believe I could make it through college. This could have also related back to my experiences in primary school ( mentioned in the essay earlier) due to not feeling good enough. This could have contributed to me later dropping out. This could be because I had already have formed these beliefs and values prior to coming to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Social Causes Of Youth Homelessness On this essay, I am going to write about youth homelessness the causes of this phenomenon in this country, and why it remains an issue very complex to resolve. There are a number of causes for youth homelessness but we can divide them into two big groups: Causes derived from social policies such as lack of funding or cuts to housing benefit; and causes derived from personal circumstances, for example, a family breakdown. Both renting and owing a home are challenging options for young people for many reasons including lack of skills and money; that in some occasions translate not having somewhere to stay. On the social causes for homelessness we find that one of the biggest issues is the shortage of housing, the parliament estimates the need for additional housing in England at between 232,000 to 300,000 new units per year, a level not reached since the late 1970s and two to three times current supply. Even though this does not only affect young people in my opinion young people are one of the most disadvantaged because the lack of supply makes housing very expensive and under 25's get paid less minimum wage so they can't afford to pay a house deposit. Another important social policy cause is that since April 2017 young people aged 16–21(with some exemptions) will not be entitled to apply for housing benefit a move made by the government to "prevent young people slipping into a life of benefits" (HM treasury 2015). However, this new policy in my point of view just makes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Facebook 's Influence On Social Networking An obvious slogan on the homepage to the popular social networking website Facebook is the phrase "Connect with friends and the world you on Facebook" (Facebook n.p). The idea of needing social networking sites to "connect" with everyone else one knows or may meet has become embedded in American culture throughout recent years, especially among the teenage population. Facebook is easily the most popular sites, to the point where it would be considered unusual for someone attending high school to not have a profile on the site. However, does the Facebook actually create a stronger connection between people, or does it simply create the illusion of a healthy social life, while really creating distance a distance between them? According to the Will Reader, a researcher who works at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, people generally have five people they would consider their close friend, in striking contrast to the vast amounts they may have on Facebook (Szumski & Karson 26). This finding seems to suggest that one's amount of Facebook reflects how popular one wishes to appear online more than how healthy one's friendship truly are. Bill Keller, an executive for the magazine The New York Times, asserts that constant usage of Facebook allows user to potentially "feel like [they] have a meaningful social life, when in reality, [they are missing] something" (26). Indeed, Facebook can function as a placebo for some users in the place of genuine, healthy social life. Users with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Hidden Homelessness, A Study By Sheffield Hallam... INTRODUCTION TO THE RESEARCH QUESTION Hidden Homelessness, a study by Sheffield Hallam University for Crisis, surveyed more than 400 rough sleepers revealing more than 1/5th of those interviewed had committed an imprisonable offence in order to get off the streets for the night (THE GUARDIAN 2010). Niven and Stewart 's 2005 research indicates 30% of people released from prison are homeless and offenders who are homeless prior to custody had one–year reconviction of 79% compared with 47% for those in accommodation (MOJ 2010). Williams et al (2012) for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), indicated three–fifths (60%) of prisoners believed having a place to live was important in preventing future reoffending. The Prison Reform Trust, reported in 2013 that 68% of prisoners considered being in employment on release was an important factor in reducing reoffending. The aim of this research is to establish how and why homeless people come to find themselves in prison and factors that may influence their likelihood of reoffending in future. Furthermore it questions whether homeless offenders are being adequately supported for their release whilst in prison by housing, health, probation, welfare and education services. It will consider previous empirical research in the field from Salem et al (2013) as well as McFarland and Blair (1995) and Pleace (2013). It will establish whether there is a disconnect between services commissioned by stakeholders from third party and voluntary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Developing Collaborative Practice BANS Sept 12 Interprofessional Working and Healthcare Policy Charlotte Walker 19010944 3,187 words 22/06/2015 This essay will explore how healthcare policy influences interproferssional working in the healthcare sector. I will reflect upon a practice based situation related to a service user and discuss how this is linked to the policy 'Our health, our care, our say ' (Department of Health, 2006). I will also provide a self–assessment of my current level of development using the Interprofessional Capability Framework. 'Our health, our care, our say ' is a policy published by the Department of Health in 2006 which aims to provide a more effective health and social care service in the community outside of hospital. It 's main aims are to improve community based care, enable health independence and well–being, provide better access to general practice and community services, and greater support for people with long–term health conditions. It sets out the government 's vision for "high quality support meeting people 's aspirations for independence and greater control over their lives, making service flexible and responsive to individual needs. ' ' This policy really highlights the need for an improved, person centred healthcare service in the community, bringing together different interprofessional teams to provide quality care for the service user. The practice based situation I will discuss revolves around Mary, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the consternations and clashing of conservatism and liberalism, the question on hand is ultimately: Does societal sexualization promote promiscuity or liberalism? The rise of the underlying presence of sexual indications in the media in society parallels sex to attraction, and such implications indoctrinate today's society with the acceptance and tolerance of liberal and suggestive depictions of young people. As Doctor Feona Attwood, Principal Lecturer in Communication at the Sheffield Hallam University notes, the singular notion of sex has "become an object of fascination in art, film, television, and the press."1 The increasing movements promoting ... Having standards even more extreme in terms of weight, petite–ness, skinny waist, and having a slimmer chin, nose, bigger breasts, and longer legs, compared to North America is an important factor in how the highly stereotyped living plastic dolls is evident in South Korea. The extremity of the desire to meet beauty standards has its risks, however. Breast implants have its risks, but an increasing amount of young teenagers are willing to take the risk. As the FDA noted, anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a type of rare cancer, not associated with breast cancer, is directly correlated with breast implants. In addition, "All of the information to date suggests that women with breast implants have a very low but increased risk of developing ALCL compared to women who do not have breast implants," an inherent risk those desiring beauty are willing to take.10, ...
