2. In order to successfully reach the expectations of
our Action/Drama genre, we implemented many
techniques. We had identified that our target
audience was predominantly young males aged
15-35.This audience will have certain
expectations, such as being thrilled by tense
chases- an example of which is the fast paced
running scene in the urban streets. Our fast
tempo music also ensured our audience stayed
on the edges of their seats.

Other expectations the audience may have is to see
advanced technology, which we have shown
through our character Phil’s role (Computer geek)
and the constant communication between Lucas
and Phil via an earpiece. Certain degrees of violence
and drama are also expected by this demographic in
this genre, so we decided to have one of our main
characters murdered early in the film, in order to
shock the audience and keep their interest.
4. On the other hand, I also believe there are
certain aspects of the Action/drama genre
which we may havemissedor not included, for
instance I think that Lucas was deprived of
technological props (besides from the
earpiece), perhaps he may have had some
Bond style gadgetry to intrigue the audience.
I believe this would have added to the
audience’s appetite for technology, and may
have also resulted in a few inventive solutions.

5. We have challenged conventional
narratives of Action/Drama films by
introducing Enigma code (Roland
Barthes) in the opening two minutes of
our film. The code is created as a result of
the abduction/murder of Phil, to which at
the time there is no explanation- fast
paced intercutting between Lucas and
Phil as he is taken away emphasises
Lucas’ confusion in the situation, as Phil
fails to reply. We believe this will
introduce a new element of narrative for
the audience, which they may not be able
to see in other action films.

A typical action film, Rambo, follows
the Action code.
