Mainstreaming gender is an important component
of the policy framework for agriculture extension
(PFAE) developed by the Ministry of Agriculture.

development of new programmes for women in

3. RURAL WOMEN DEVELOPED PROGRAMMES
1. Indira mahila yojana (1995)
The main strategy of the scheme was
to create an organisational base for women and
discuss their needs and requirements from the
existing departmental programmes of the state and
central governments.
2. Swayamsidha(IWEP)
It is an integrated scheme for
women’s empoerment aimed at generating
awareness, economic empowerment of women.
4. 3. Village women Dairy development programme
Nestle developed an educational
programme especially for women dairy farmers.
The objective of programme is to
empower the village women engaged in dairy
farming to improve milk quality and productivity.
4. Kudumbashree programme
Kudumbashree state poverty
eradication mission of kerala developed a
programme for agripreneurship for farm women.
The objective is to develop a work
plan for the operationalizing Agripreneurship among
farm women.
5. 5. Distance education programmes
The department of women and
child development initiated a collaborative project
with Indira Gandhi National Open University and
the Indian Space Research Organisation to develop
a certificate course, using distance education, on
Women’s Group mobilisation and empowerment.
6. STEP(1987)
It provide skills and new
knowledge to poor and assetless women working in
traditional sectors, such as agriculture, animal
husbandry, dairying, fisheries, handlooms,
handicrafts etc, to enhance employment
opportunities including self employment and
development skills.
6. 7. Employment-cum-income generation-cum-
production units(1982)
Its aims to improve lives of
poor women through providing financial assistance
to women’s development corporation,public sector
corporation.
8. Rashtriya Mahila Kosh(1993)
The objective is to facilitate
credit support or micro finance to poor women and
its supportthrough non-government organisations
and suitable stategovernment agencies.
