2. Introduction
Simple Network Management
Protocol (SNMP) is an internet
standard protocol.
It is used for managing devices in an
internet using the TCP/IP protocol
suite.
SNMP uses the concept of manager
and SNMP agent.
3. • SNMP Manager usually a host, which
controls and monitors a set of agents.
• SNMP Agents usually router,
switches, printers and servers etc.
4. SNMP Components
SNMP
SMI MIB
SNMP uses two protocols: Structure of Management
Information(SMI) and Management Information
Base(MIB). Management is done through the
cooperation of these three protocols.
5. SMI is basically used to standardized
the different object attributes like object
identifiers, object type and encoding
methods for object.
MIB is nothing but the actual set of
objects supported by a network
device, for controlling and monitoring
by the SNMP protocol.
6. SNMP Version
SNMPv1
V1 is the first version of SNMP basically
has poor security.
SNMPv2
V2 is revised version of V1 it improves
in area of performance, security,
confidentially.
