Late arrival of students
QIMPRO CHALLENGE 3
General causes
 Students may think that the teacher would allow them in the class even if they got late
 Why would they think that?
 Because the teacher might have allowed students coming late to class earlier
 Students presume that the teacher is lenient
 Teacher usually comes late
 Also students staying at hostel have some common reasons to get late
 Why would they get late?
 Queue for doing morning activities like taking bath, attending natures call etc.
 Also they have to depend on mess facility for breakfast, lunch which effects their schedule
 They have some formality to be completed like shifting to hostel or change in room
 They wait for their partner students, if they are not ready so that they can go together
 Also student doing some extra curricular activity,
like
 Handling some Event of college
 Doing off-summer
 Belonging to some college committee which
gave him work
 Participating in some inter college competition
 Attending seminar
 Has to do some home chores in absence of
parents
Causes pertaining to students
staying far away from college
 Some students travel by train/bus/taxi/auto/personal
vehicle to come to college so for them the causes can
be-
 Train or bus arrives late
 Train or bus is cancelled
 Students using personal vehicle may face traffic
 There may be technical issues in
train/bus/taxi/auto/personal vehicle which would
result in the student getting late
 Co-passenger get into fight with the driver/conductor
resulting in delay
 Taxi or auto refuses to ply
 Why do they refuse to ply? Maybe because there is
huge traffic or they don’t get return fare
 Students misjudging the time required by train or
bus to reach the destination
 Why would students misjudge the timings? It could
be because they are not aware of time taken
 Why are they not aware of travel time? Maybe
because the students are new and have not
travelled before
 There was hectic schedule day before and lectures
went on for long time till evening due to which
students reached home late
 In rare situations, small accidents may happen
which would result in the student reaching late to
college. (In case of big accidents, student would not
even come to college)
Causes pertaining to students living
nearby
 Some students live within walking distance from
college
1. Students may leave late thinking they would
reach on time
2. Why do they leave late?
 Basically it is because of callousness on their part
 Students wake up late
 Students wait to buy something on the way
3. Why they get late even if they leave on time?
 Meet some friend on the way and then talk to him
 Student has some work on the way like going in
bank
 Get stuck in the lift as light goes of
Causes pertaining to importance of
beginning of lecture
 Students do not believe that the beginning of the
lecture is important
 Hence try to go late
 Why do they believe that?
 Teacher is unprepared and takes time to start the
lecture
 Teacher waits for other students
 Importance of start of lecture is not conveyed
Causes pertaining to the behavior of
the student
 Some students are not responsible and don’t
consider it important to attend lecture on time
 Students try to challenge the teachers authority
by going late
 Students think if one get late for first time then its
not punishable

 Strict action should be taken if the reason for
coming late is not genuine
 Attendance should be taken at the start
 Communicate the importance of the subject
 Communicate the expectations from the students
 Teacher should also be on time ensuring students
time is not wasted
 Communicate the importance of next lecture
 Do not waste time in the beginning of the lecture
