Folk Music Magazine Front Cover Design
1. -In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products?
2. TITLE, FONT AND STYLE
After going through many possible names for
my magazine I finally came up with the
name- FME. Its short, meanigful and
catchy- enabling to become memorable.
My media product is one of a kind; it
particularly stands for one, different
genre of music that is not particularly
highly recognised in the UK-folk music.
During my research of magazines I found alot
were all black and red themed and lacking in
colour. I believe that not all music magazines
need to be dark and black colours-

front of my magazine like the popular
magazine NME – I went with ‘Folk Musical
Express’. Adressing the style of my
magazine immediately.
3. COSTUME & PROPS
I chose the two ukuleles as a prop to combine with
the music they create and I dressed them in a very
simple/country side way with the jeans, checked
shirts and hats.
When choosing the props and costume for my music magazine I
had to be very particular and assertive in telling the two boys
what to wear and bring with them.
WHY?
Because the genre of music- folk is extremely separate from
Inspired by.. other types of indie/alternative music.

4. REASONING FOR THE FRONT
COVER
Throughout my research in this process I have found that
in most music magazines the image on the front is of a
person with a very intriguing but interesting image and
are quite stylish- relate to the readers.
FUN SIDE
EXCITING
When I researched young, British boy
bands I found that there was a current INTERESTING
theme of the FUN element of the band. FUNNIER MY

boy band fun and I think
my magazine front cover
brings this appealing side
as well as fitting into the

the double page spread.
5. WRITTEN CONTENT- DOUBLE PAGE
SPREAD.
I originally had my text in one large block,
however I decided to follow the conventions
of previous double page spreads of
magazines that I’ve researched and put the
text into columns.
WHY??
-Not only does it make it simpler to read, it
is also more eye catching and appealing.
I used a variety of different font sizes to
make the quotes on the page stand out
more and I used different colours and a type
writer to create the heading.
6. MUSIC GENRE AND HOW MY
MAGAZINE SUGGESTS IT..
I chose the genre -indie/alternative.
My magazine definitely represents this
as I feel it shows it through the style of
magazine that I choose to base mine on
which was NME which gives
information of not only the main band
that it is based on but other
indie/alternative bands that appear in
our music industry at the minute and
are relevant.
I have shown this also by my choice of
costume and models for the magazine
with props such as ukeles and the flute
during the photo shoots this clearly
shows the alternative side to my
theme.
