This document outlines a lesson plan for teaching 5th grade students about the Industrial Revolution. The teacher will analyze the class of 12 boys and 8 girls, which is 60% white, 30% African American, and 10% Hispanic. Three students have IEPs. The objectives are for students to summarize and explain the main ideas of the Industrial Revolution, and discuss how children were treated differently during that time after watching a video. Students will be expected to list and explain 5 significant changes from the era with 98% accuracy after one week. To meet the objectives, students will create online posters about inventions using Glogster and PowerPoint. The teacher will introduce important inventors and how their creations impacted society. Students will be required
1. Assure Method
Analyze The Learner- Teaching significant changes during the Industrial Revolution to a 5th
grade class. 12 boys, 8 girls, 60% white 30% African-American and 10% Hispanic. 3 students in
the class have an IEP.
State Objectives- After a class discussion, my 5th grade students will be able to summarize and
explain the main ideas of the Industrial Revolution. After participating in the class discussion
and watching a YouTube video regarding child labor during the Industrial revolution, my
students will be able to share with myself and their classmates what the Industrial Revolution is,
and how different children were treated during that time period. My student will be able to list
and explain 5 significant changes, events and inventions that greatly impacted society with a
98% accuracy rate after one week.
Select Methods, Media and Materials- I will teach my students how to create a poster online
using both glogster.com and power point. Students will be asked to create a poster based on an
invention they create within their groups. It is their responsibility to market and promote their
invention with their posters. For this assignment I will need large printer paper for the posters,
along with printer ink and Velcro for the back of the posters once they are laminated.
Utilize Media and Materials- I will introduce the class to this assignment by introducing them
to inventors from the Industrial Revolution and how their inventions powerfully impacted
today’s society. We will watch a video regarding the steam engine invention along with a
glogster timeline of important inventions.
2. Require Learner Participation- All students will be required to create a free glogster account
as well as one poster using power point. The student’s will be responsible for printing their own
assignment and bringing it to class for review.
Evaluate and Revise- While the students are creating their posters on their inventions, I will be
walking around along with my aid assistant to make sure that no student has any questions or
concerns for this assignment. We will help scaffold the students into making the best invention
that they can, along with ideas to create their posters.
